"Sister..." came out a muffled call, wiping his eyes with his arm. "... why did you have to die?"
Dion stayed in his spot as he tried to calm himself down. This pain in their hearts felt endless; there was no end to it. It was just gray; sad and lonely accompanied by the deafening silence of the world. Dion didn't even know if he wanted to go home. Being alone right now wasn't the best thing to do.
So, without any particular place to go, Dion soon found himself in front of the ICU. He had been in here twice for the past two days. He was the only one who had the courage to visit Devon. And each time, his eyes would tear up.
"Third Young Master Qin, you came here again?"
Suddenly, a nurse who just exited the ICU smiled at him. He had been a regular, and he was always standing in front of the door just like today.
"Are you here to see Miss Lin again?" she asked politely. Her kindness was sincere, knowing that this bad boy in the entertainment industry never hesitated to cry whenever he was with the patient. It was moving that his image on the screen contradicted his care for Devon.
"Can I see her?" he asked helplessly while forcing a smile.
"Of course," the nurse smiled back and nodded.
With that being said, the nurse assisted Dion to wear scrubs and went through the proper method to sanitize. Once Dion was covered from head to toe, he nodded at the nurse. The nurse simply opened the door for him but didn't go in. There's only one patient in this private ICU and Dion already knew what to do now.
When Dion entered while the door shut closed behind him, his eyes fell on the person on the bed. The ICU was nothing but medical equipment with a single bed and a patient. He walked towards it, ignoring the nurse in charge from the corner.
"Sister," Dion whispered as he stood on the side of the bed. His eyes softened as a bitter smile turned up behind his face mask. He gazed at her chest that was moving systematically, breathing through life support. No matter how many times he had seen this, he couldn't get used to how unnatural her breathing was. Actually, he wouldn't get used to this sight of her with all the tubes injected into her that kept her body alive.
"What should I do now?" he muttered as he reached for her cold hand that was already white. Devon was still warm, though. The reason Dion would come every day was that her slight warmth made him want to believe in miracles.
He dragged the chair and sat down on the side of her bed, holding her hand gently. Since he would normally spend his day babysitting her, he didn't know what to do. So, Dion wanted to stay with her throughout the day just like always. She might not talk, but he could do that.
"Sister, today, I met your ex. Damn, the world is so tiny, huh?" he chuckled with eyes tearing up, but he took a deep breath while squeezing her hand lightly. "Can you believe it? He thought I was your lover? And he said that in front of Ge."
Another wave of lonely chuckles slipped past his lips, thinking about what she would say about this.
"You will probably frown and scrunch your nose," he guessed while guiding her hand to his cheek, pressing it against her hand as he closed his eyes. Tears immediately pooled behind his eyelids before they fell without restraint.
"Sister... this is so unfair. You haven't even heard me say I love you too. How can you..." Dion choked, crying in silence because she wouldn't hear these. And he regretted not telling her things such as he loved her too, that he was grateful that she was his sister-in-law, how thankful he was for her to choose his ice-cold big brother, and to everything.
There was so much he wanted to tell her, but it was already too late. Devon was already in this situation, breathing through the help of these machines.
"I love you too, sister. Do you know that? I will be a good brother... God, please, just this once..." While holding her hand with both his hand, Dion prayed from the bottom of his heart. He wasn't a firm believer. Honestly, he never prayed in his life.
The blessed life of the Qin made them think that whether or not they believed in God, they had food on the table. Even if they won't work, they had enough wealth to last for a lifetime. Hence, Dion never prayed. But in this situation, he could only do that.
'If there are really Gods... please show us a miracle.'
Dion didn't know what happened for the rest of the day. All he knew was he stayed with Devon for as long as he could until the visitation was over. Even when he departed the ICU, he stood in front of it while staring at the door blankly.
"See you tomorrow, sister," he whispered before turning around and walking away, already prepared to come back to visit her again.

Meanwhile, in the Qin Empire, CEO's office, Lewis had been working documents after documents. He drowned himself with all the incoming projects and the current issues the company was facing.
"This tax evasion case... send it to the State Taxation Administration," Lewis put down the documents of the pieces of evidence Derek dug up. "I'm certain Julian sent these documents to someone. We need to move before them."
Derek, who was standing in front of the desk, glanced down at the documents. He then raised his gaze as Lewis slid another document on top of the piles of documents on the desk. Lewis had always been a hard worker, but Derek had never seen this level of hard work.
"Young Master, office hours are over," Derek informed him, watching Lewis stop. The latter look back to see the sun was about to set.
"That soon?" he muttered, nodding before continuing to read the document. "Then you can go home."
Derek let out a sigh, pressing his lips in a thin line. "The chairman is already on the case of the tax evasion." he waited for Lewis to raise his head, furrowing this brows in disbelief.
"What did you say? Grandpa is already on it?"
"I'm sorry, Young Master. I can't let your name get involved in this." Derek bowed his head, but his tone didn't have a shred of guilt. Even if Lewis would avoid imprisonment, he would have to step down from being the CEO once this case was out. Marshall Qin was aware of these consequences. Thus, he didn't mind standing as a shield to his grandson.
"Derek." Lewis' tone dropped, but before he could speak, someone suddenly barged into his office.
"Where is that punk?!"
