Chapter 3136 The Imposter Captain

Chapter 3136 The Imposter Captain (Part 2)

"Where is he now?" Sokov asked tentatively. "Is he still on this floor?"

“He’s gone.” Asya shook her head gently, a hint of regret in her voice. “When I went out just now, I saw him being taken away by several guards. They were carrying him toward the stairs. He should be being interrogated somewhere right now.” As she spoke, her eyes unconsciously glanced toward the door, as if she could still see the departing figures of that group of people.

“I’m curious,” Sokov tapped the edge of the bed unconsciously with his finger, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes, “where did he get his captain’s badge? And how did he get shot?”

“I’m curious too,” Asia replied softly, glancing cautiously toward the door as if worried about being overheard. She moved closer and continued, “I’ll go to the nurses’ station in a few hours to ask around and see if I can get more detailed information. People come and go there, and news travels the fastest there.”

Sokov realized that the nurses' station was indeed the most well-informed place in the hospital, where almost all rumors and news converged. The nurses were always the first to know what was happening in each department, and once the interrogation results were out, someone would surely receive detailed information quickly. At that point, figuring out the whole story shouldn't be difficult.

He nodded, his eyes filled with trust and expectation, and softly instructed Asiya, "When you pass by the nurses' station, don't forget to ask about the details. This matter is not simple, and I'm eager to know what happened."

"Don't worry, Misha. I won't forget." Asia smiled gently and said, "I'll let you know as soon as I have any news."

Before we knew it, it was time for dinner.

The hospital cafeteria staff brought Sokov dinner in a cart.

Sokov finished his dinner as quickly as possible and urged Asya to go outside and inquire about the fake captain.

After Asya nodded in agreement, she pushed the cart containing the cutlery out the door, intending to place it at the nurses' station and wait for the restaurant staff to collect it.

As she approached the nurses' station, she saw two nurses chatting quietly while organizing medications in the open pharmacy. Asia walked over and greeted them with a smile, "What are you two talking about?"

Hearing someone speak, the two nurses stopped talking. One of them, a round-faced nurse, turned around and, after recognizing the speaker as Asia, smiled and replied, "Dr. Asia, it's you. We were just talking about the man who was arrested this afternoon."

Asia's main purpose in coming here was to inquire about this matter. Hearing the round-faced nurse mention it, she readily asked, "What's the situation now?"

The round-faced nurse lowered her voice and said, "Dr. Asiya, I heard from a friend that the one arrested was a fake captain, and the identification wasn't even his. The hospital guards took him to the small conference room downstairs and interrogated him for almost two hours, but he's very stubborn and won't say anything. By the way, he has gunshot wounds in his shoulder and abdomen; I don't know how he got them." Asiya listened patiently to the nurse's story, then turned and walked back. When she opened the door, Sokov was leaning against the headboard, his fingers unconsciously stroking the blanket. Seeing her return, he immediately sat up straight: "How is it? Any new developments?"

Asya walked to the bedside, leaned down, and said, "The nurse said that the man was an imposter captain, and the identification he was wearing wasn't his. He's currently being interrogated in the small conference room downstairs, but he hasn't said a word, so we don't know his background yet."

Sokov's brow furrowed deeply. He muttered to himself, his voice laced with barely concealed frustration and coldness: "I never expected this man to be so tight-lipped, refusing to utter a single word." He paused, his gaze darkening as he looked out the window, then, as if making a decision, continued: "I think the Ministry of Internal Affairs must get involved. After all, they are the true experts in interrogation—no one knows better than them how to pry open a stubborn mouth."

"Misha!" Asya said softly, "Now that you've woken up and your condition is improving... how about we get you discharged as soon as possible?"

Sokov turned his head, his face full of surprise and confusion: "Asya, why did you suddenly bring up being discharged?" His tone was puzzled, but there was also a hint of barely perceptible wariness.

Asya didn't answer immediately. She first glanced towards the ward door, as if some unseen danger lurked behind that white door. She lowered her voice and said cautiously, "Logically, this floor is all VIP wards, and there are always guards at the stairwell. But today, an uninvited guest easily broke in... Who can guarantee that something similar won't happen again? What if... what if someone intends to harm you?" Her tone grew more urgent as she spoke, and genuine worry appeared in her eyes. "If we go back to the military compound, where security is tight and every door has sentries, outsiders simply can't get in... only then will you be truly safe."

Sokov fell silent; Asya's words had jolted him awake. Although he had always believed the intrusion was accidental, every word she spoke struck a chord deep within him. The hospital, while comfortable, was far from safe. Staying there would be tantamount to exposing himself to unforeseen dangers.

After a moment, he nodded slightly, his expression resolute, and said, "You're right, Asia, we really can't stay in this hospital any longer." His tone was firm and decisive. "Fortunately, you're a doctor; you can handle the subsequent dressing changes and examinations for me."

Upon hearing his response, Asya's face lit up, her eyes sparkling as if stars were twinkling: "Misha, does that mean you agree? You're willing to be discharged early and go home to recuperate?"

“Yes, that’s exactly what I meant.” Sokov nodded, his voice softening. “However, it’s late today, and my attending physician should have already left work. Let’s go and complete the discharge procedures first thing tomorrow morning.”

“Okay, then tomorrow.” Asya’s tone was much lighter, but she immediately added with a hint of apology, “But tonight… I can’t stay here with you.” Noticing a slight change in Sokov’s expression, she quickly explained, “I want to go home first and tidy up the house. You’re finally coming back… I need to make the house look warmer so you can adjust to our new home as soon as possible.”

“Asya, you’re so thoughtful.” Sokov nodded to Asya. “Then you should go back as soon as possible. If I need anything, I’ll press the call button and call a nurse for help.”
