Chapter 3137
The next morning, the attending physician made his routine rounds.
Upon seeing Sokov lying in his hospital bed, he smiled and asked, "Comrade General, how are you feeling today?"
"I feel much better."
"Where's Asiya?" The attending physician asked curiously when he didn't see Asiya. "Did she go to prepare breakfast for you?"
“She went home last night,” Sokov said with a smile. “I plan to be discharged today, so she went home early to pack.”
The attending physician was taken aback, then asked, "General, what did you say? You plan to be discharged today?"
"Yes, I've been in the hospital for too long, it's time to be discharged."
"However, your injuries have not fully healed yet, and you still need to change your dressings every day..."
Sokov interrupted him before he could finish speaking: "Doctor, have you forgotten that my wife, Asya, is also a doctor? She is perfectly capable of handling such a small matter as changing dressings."
The attending physician hesitated, pondering whether he should grant Sokov's request.
Sokov, oblivious to the expression on the other person's face, continued, "Doctor, rest assured, I trust Asya's professional abilities. Moreover, I will strictly follow the doctor's orders and come back for regular check-ups."
The attending physician sighed, shook his head, and said, "Comrade General, I understand your feelings. Although you still need to stay in the hospital for treatment, since you insist and Comrade Asiya is taking care of you, I will approve your discharge today. But remember, if you feel unwell at all, call the hospital's emergency number, and we will dispatch an ambulance to pick you up as quickly as possible."
Sokov smiled gratefully and nodded repeatedly, "Thank you, doctor."
"Then I'll go out and help you with the discharge procedures. You can leave once Dr. Asia arrives."
……
Around nine o'clock in the morning, Asya pushed open the door to the ward, followed by two soldiers. One was a young corporal pushing an empty wheelchair; the other was a female second lieutenant in the uniform of the Internal Affairs Department, whose eyes exuded coldness and professionalism.
Sokov noticed the unusual group, his gaze lingering briefly on the two soldiers before he turned to Asiya with a hint of surprise and asked, "Asia, who are they?" "Ah, Misha, I'm sorry I forgot to tell you yesterday," Asiya said quickly to Sokov's bedside, her voice tinged with apology. She explained softly, "According to the latest military district regulations, based on your rank, you've been assigned six bodyguards and a full-time officer from the Ministry of Internal Affairs." She turned slightly to the female officer, pointing, "This is Lieutenant Gulia; she will be fully responsible for your security from now on."
As soon as Asia finished speaking, Lieutenant Gulia stepped forward briskly. Heels together, she gave a crisp military salute, her voice clear and strong: "Hello, Comrade General! From this day forward, your personal safety is entirely my responsibility. I will do everything in my power to ensure you have no worries."
Sokov met her resolute gaze, nodded slightly in response, and said in a calm yet authoritative tone, "Hello, Lieutenant Gulia. It's a pleasure to meet you."
“Misha, the discharge procedures are all done,” Asya said, gesturing for the young corporal to come forward. “We can leave now.” The corporal moved with practiced care, gently lifting Sokov from the hospital bed, helping him into the wheelchair, and carefully straightening his clothes and trousers.
Once Sokov was seated, the corporal steadily pushed the wheelchair, following Asya out of the ward. As they passed the nurses' station, a nurse who had been waiting nearby hurriedly followed with a white medical kit. Hearing footsteps, Sokov turned around, and the nurse quickly stepped forward, explaining softly, "Comrade General, these are the medicines and dressings you will need in the near future. Please allow me to take them to your car."
The group walked through the corridor, down the elevator, and finally arrived at the entrance of the inpatient department. A black sedan was parked not far away. Guliya quickly walked to the car first, exchanged a few words with the driver who was already waiting beside it, and then skillfully opened the trunk. She turned and waved to the nurse, saying, "Nurse, the first-aid kit can be placed here. Thank you for your cooperation."
The car started slowly, its engine emitting a deep roar, and drove smoothly forward along the wide and clean avenue. Sunlight streamed in through the windows, and the trees on both sides of the road rushed past, forming a blurry green barrier.
Just over ten minutes later, the car arrived at the gate of a magnificent compound.
The compound's high walls, covered in vines, exuded a solemn and mysterious aura. The sentries at the gate stood ramrod straight, dressed in neat uniforms, their sharp eyes scanning the approaching vehicles. As the car drew near, the sentry quickly recognized the license plate number. His expression remained unchanged; he merely nodded slightly, not stopping the car, but simply waving it through.
As the vehicle drove past the sentry, Sokov couldn't help but look out the window with curiosity. He wondered why the sentry hadn't checked the vehicle before letting it into the compound. Was the security here really that lax?
Sitting next to Sokov, Gulia keenly sensed his doubt. She turned her head, a gentle smile on her face, and quickly explained, “Comrade General! Please rest assured, the sentries at the entrance of the military compound are all specially trained elites. They not only remember the license plates of every car in the compound, but are also familiar with the characteristics of all authorized vehicles, so they can make an accurate judgment at the first moment: whether to stop the vehicle for a detailed inspection or to let it pass directly.”
After figuring out what was going on, Sokov nodded, the doubt on his face gradually fading, replaced by a hint of appreciation. He said thoughtfully, "Oh, I see. It seems the security here is indeed thorough and efficient." His gaze returned to the window, noticing the clean roads inside the compound, the neatly trimmed lawns on both sides, and the patrol personnel with military dogs.
Soon, the vehicle pulled up in front of the iron gate of an elegant two-story villa. The villa, built of red brick with a tiled roof, appeared classic and sturdy. Inside was a small gatehouse, its architectural style matching the villa. The soldier who had been sitting in the gatehouse immediately stood up upon seeing the vehicle approach, nimbly running to open the gate. He held the iron gate firmly, his body straight, and gave the vehicle a standard salute, his eyes filled with respect.
“Comrade General!” Gulia continued to explain to Sokov, her voice gentle yet clear: “There are two guards stationed at the gatehouse, responsible for monitoring the entrance and responding to emergencies. I and four other guards are all inside your villa, ready to provide you with protection and assistance at any time. Please feel free to let me know if you need anything.” Her professionalism and loyalty reassured Sokov.
The car slowly came to a stop in front of the villa, the tires making a slight sound as they rubbed against the ground.
The driver expertly honked the horn twice, the crisp sound echoing in the quiet air. The next moment, the villa's gate flung open, and several soldiers rushed out. They quickly approached the car; one of them skillfully opened the trunk, reached inside, and retrieved a folding wheelchair, deftly unfolding it. Another soldier pushed the wheelchair over, carefully assisting Sokov out of the car and safely and comfortably seated him.
