Chapter 2731 Demonic Cultivator: My Banner Remains the Same
Roger smugly walked to the door, pushed it open, and called out, "Welcome to Philadelphia!"
The noise outside immediately flooded into the room; the street was right outside.
No one expected that this unassuming house contained a portal to a magic academy.
This door is really useful; one is in the central region, and the other is on the east coast, at least a thousand miles apart, and we arrived in the blink of an eye.
The three of them were conspicuous enough: two dressed in black robes as magic apprentices, and Xi Ning in a Taoist blue robe, standing out awkwardly in the crowd. Yet, few people on the street paid them any attention.
Along the roadside littered with garbage, many homeless people huddled together, each one filthy and mostly emaciated.
Some sat, staring blankly into space; others slowly moved along, pushing handcarts piled high with miscellaneous items.
Many people walked unsteadily, their bodies weak, their eyes vacant and lost, like zombies.
Xining's steps involuntarily slowed down—a person was walking in front of her, bending over at almost a ninety-degree angle, tiptoeing the whole way, inch by inch on their toes.
Not far away, a woman was lying in a dirty vest that was hard to tell its original color. She was covered with a tattered black garbage bag, and her swollen legs were exposed. Her skin was so badly rotten that it smelled terrible.
She knew what was going on, after all, she had experienced so many different dimensions, and this was caused by the drugs.
It's no wonder no one noticed their clothes; the people here are struggling to survive, teetering on the brink of death, so they have no time to care about anything else.
Roger nudged her arm softly: "Let's hurry, things aren't safe here."
No sooner had he finished speaking than a gunshot rang out from the street corner ahead.
A man stumbled out from a street corner, but was shot dead by someone who caught up with him after only a few steps.
Blood gushed from his body instantly and flowed onto the ground.
He was shot multiple times in the head and chest and died on the spot.
The person who caught up with him forcibly pried open his tightly clenched fingers and snatched what he was holding. From a distance, it was impossible to see what it was, but when it was taken, the object must have carried the warmth of the deceased's body.
The belongings were stolen, and the body was left on the street, ignored by the dazed and confused crowd who didn't even give it a second glance.
Xi Ning saw this, but quickened her pace.
Roger took the order at an old house, one of ten houses in a row, with a crooked "For Sale" sign hanging in front of the door.
A man in a dark suit without a tie was already waiting there; judging from his attire, he was a real estate agent from a small agency.
Upon seeing them approach, the man immediately greeted them: "You're from the magic academy, right? You have an hour to clean out the filth inside. We need to bring people to see the apartment tomorrow." He was indeed a real estate agent.
"Pay first," Roger said, striking a shrewd pose, and held out his hand. "At least half upfront."
The agent took out a wad of cash from his trouser pocket, counted out three bills, and handed them over.
Roger took it and then stretched out his other hand: "Not enough, I said, at least half!"
The agent gritted his teeth and handed over another bill, only to see Roger still staring at him. Reluctantly, he added another bill, muttering, "I'm really scared of you guys!"
Roger folded the money and put it in his pocket. He then took out a magic wand as thin as a chopstick from his sleeve, and Lisa also took out her own small magic wand.
The weaker the magic power, the smaller the wand; it's embarrassing to even take out such a thin magic wand.
Roger led the way, followed by Lisa, while Xining, who had come to "observe," walked slowly at the back.
Looking at the two guys in front of her, nervously gripping their magic wands and moving cautiously step by step, Xining couldn't help but find it amusing.
The house wasn't big, and the whole building exuded a damp, chilly atmosphere, as if it had been uninhabited for a long time. Upon entering, there was a narrow hallway connected to the kitchen, where a dining table was set up. After wandering around the first floor without finding any movement, the two went up to the second floor. The stairs were made of old wood, creaking and groaning with every step, sending chills down their spines.
There were two rooms on the second floor. Roger chose the one closer to the stairs and turned the handle.
The door opened a crack, Roger and Lisa exchanged a glance, and then Roger kicked the door open.
Both of them held up their wands at the same time, loudly chanting their own spells. The tip of Lisa's wand shone like a flashlight, illuminating the entire room. The windows were tightly closed, but a small breeze blew through.
Xining stared wide-eyed, waiting quietly... watching the two young magic students maintain their high-fashion poses for half a minute, until Lisa's magic wand glowed and disappeared.
Roger halted his large step forward and nodded seriously: "Okay, no problem, next room."
That's it, is that all?
I thought it would be a scene of a little magician battling a demon, but this is what happened?
What is she expecting?
They did the same thing at the second room, and then headed up to the third floor. Xining couldn't help but ask, "Roger, what spell were you chanting just now?"
Roger crept up the stairs like a thief, clutching his wand and probing forward as if that thin chopstick could ward off ghosts: "Exorcism Spell."
"Why not use the demon-slaying spell?"
"Hmm." Roger cleared his throat. "There's no incantation to exorcise demons."
Xining...
That's true. In the magical world, physical exorcisms are generally used, and for the Great Demon King, an even larger demon king is summoned to defeat him.
In their minds, demons and evil spirits are inherently unkillable; they can only be driven elsewhere. The best way to deal with them is to send them back to their home, hell, where they will remain peaceful for a long time.
The third floor also has two rooms, and the same process was followed. In the end, only the attic on the top floor was left.
“The ghost in the attic is the fiercest, and it’s also the strongest.” Lisa’s voice trembled, and she could barely speak.
"Shh!" Roger turned around abruptly and gestured for her to be quiet, his face pale. "Keep your voice down. I need to concentrate and can't be disturbed."
The two of them moved slowly, inch by inch, towards the attic, as if afraid of stepping on ants. They finally made it there.
The attic was piled high with old junk, all covered with white sheets and a thick layer of dust.
Lisa was so frightened that she clung to Roger's back, her hand trembling as she held the glowing wand and shone it around in the pile of junk.
Suddenly, the white sheet covering a pile of miscellaneous items moved without wind, abruptly rising into the air. Its four corners drooped down, and a bulge appeared in the middle, clearly forming a human shape.
"Ah~" Roger and Lisa screamed at the same time.
This "bedsheet ghost" floats in mid-air, with nothing underneath, looking just like a giant teru teru bozu (a Japanese doll shaped like a teru bozu) suspended from a roof beam by invisible threads.
Lisa was so frightened that she squeezed her eyes shut, opened her mouth wide, revealing her braces, and shouted at the top of her lungs, "Chant the spell! Chant the spell now!"
Roger's hand holding the wand trembled like a leaf, and his lips quivered: "Chant the spell, chant the spell... how do I chant it again?"
Xining...
The bed sheet ghost slowly spread its "arms," the sheets on both sides unfolding to the sides, like a large white bird slowly spreading its wings...
"Ah—" Roger and Lisa turned deathly pale, almost as pale as the sheets, and their shrill screams were so loud they were split apart.
They scrambled and tumbled as they turned and ran, and soon a series of loud thuds came from the other end of the stairs, indicating that the two had tumbled down the stairs. (End of Chapter)
