Chapter 2732 Demonic Cultivator: My Banner Remains the Same
The two people ran away, leaving Xi Ning to face the bedsheet ghost.
The bed sheet ghost, with its arms outstretched like a pair of wings, looked exactly like a large white bird in flight, hovering in the center of the attic.
Xi Ning was truly exasperated. If they were going to escape trouble, they should have taken her with them. They only cared about themselves and had no sense of morality.
She gave a soft shout: "Fan, come!"
A soul-summoning banner, about ten feet long, appeared beside her.
Then wait: if the ghost dares to rush over or attack her, she'll take it down.
And so, the human and the ghost stood in silent confrontation for more than a minute.
Xining...
Is this ghost just standing there pretending? Come on, attack! If you don't attack, how am I supposed to take you down?
Unexpectedly, the sheet ghost spoke up at this moment, its voice tender and childlike: "What is this thing?"
Xi Ning blinked and pointed to the Hundred Souls Banner beside her: "Oh, you mean this? This is called a banner, it's a place specifically for living souls, wandering souls, and all sorts of ghosts to rest in."
Upon hearing this, the bed sheet ghost slowly lowered its outstretched "wings," floated to the banner, and brought its round "head" very close, as if carefully examining it: "Can a ghost live inside?"
"Of course!" Xi Ning replied confidently.
But it is indeed the truth. "There are already hundreds of souls living inside, and they get along very well. Wherever I go, the banner follows. When I encounter trouble, I call on them to come out and help me. They can help me eliminate evil and bring peace, and reform demons and monsters. This is a good deed that accumulates merit."
The sheet ghost was even happier to hear that, and floated over to ask, "Then can I come in and stay?"
"Of course, no problem! The space inside is huge, like a small world, capable of holding thousands of ghosts and wandering spirits." She was telling the truth, the absolute truth.
After saying that, she asked, "Why are you still in the mortal realm? Did the ghost messenger who was guiding you get lazy and leave you behind?"
In China, only those with extremely strong resentment who can evade the ghost messengers will linger in the human world and refuse to leave.
The sheet ghost slowly lowered its "head," looking listless and full of frustration: "I don't know either. I've been here for too long. I've long forgotten how I died, and I can't even remember my name. Every time someone comes here, I come out to let them see me, hoping that someone can recognize me, but every time they are scared and run away. They are all afraid of me."
Nonsense, if you were floating around wrapped in a big white sheet, who wouldn't be afraid if an ordinary person came in?
Xi Ning softened her tone: "What a pitiful child!"
I reached out to touch its "head," but as soon as my fingertip touched it, the sheet dented; it was all air and light, and I couldn't feel anything solid.
She sighed softly: "With you wrapped in this sheet, you can't even show your face. How are people supposed to recognize you?"
"But, if I don't wear a sheet, it's like this..." As soon as she finished speaking, the sheet wrapped around her body gently fell off, leaving only an empty space in front of her.
The child's voice came from the original direction: "Nobody can see me."
Oh, so it's transparent!
“That’s easy!” Xi Ning reached into her storage bag and pulled out a Taoist textbook. She flipped through a few pages and quickly found the incantation to open the third eye.
Jingxing smiled and said, "Last-minute cramming?"
There's no other way; the rules and laws of each plane are different, and the original owner didn't have this knowledge in their memories, so they had to look it up in books. As the saying goes: "Sharpening your spear at the last minute, even if it's not fast, it will still shine."
Xi Ning then held the book in one hand, made a hand seal with the other, and whispered while looking at the book: "The divine eye manifests, heaven and earth are connected."
Finally, with a flick of his finger across his eyelids, he uttered a command: "Open!"
Suddenly, everything became clear, and a small figure slowly emerged from the void, gradually becoming clearer. Jing Xing chuckled, "Hehe..."
It was a little boy who looked about seven or eight years old. His soul was semi-transparent, and he just floated there.
Xi Ning hadn't expected that the Chinese Heavenly Eye Mantra would be so effective against Western ghosts. She closed the book and put it away, then said to the little boy, "You have indeed been dead for a long time. Your parents are probably long gone."
"You can see me?" The little boy's eyes lit up with surprise. "How did you know I've been dead for a long time?"
Xi Ning pointed to several photo frames on a cabinet in the corner of the attic. The photos in the frames had turned yellow and the edges were fading. There were solo photos of the little boy before his death, as well as photos of him with his parents.
The entire attic was covered in dust, except for these few picture frames, which were spotless and free of any dust, probably because the little boy cleaned them frequently.
The little boy lowered his head and said softly, "I can't get out of this house, I can only stay here alone. I don't know how much time has passed, I only know it's been a very, very long time. Please don't leave me here, let me into your shrine, please take me away?"
Seeing his pitiful state, Xi Ning felt a little sorry for him: "Once you go in, you will completely forget everything about your life before you died."
"It's okay," the little boy shook his head. "I'd already forgotten, I can't even remember my own name... Will you be lonely in there?"
"No." Indeed, no, I was in a daze and had no consciousness, let alone any feeling.
"Then let me in. I'd go to hell if it meant leaving this place." The little boy looked up at her with his translucent face, his eyes pleading. "I really don't want to be here alone anymore."
Xi Ning sighed softly and shouted, "Stop!"
The little boy's soul "whooshed" into the banner.
Just a second later, a golden light flashed across the banner, instantly refining the soul. It seems this child was truly lonely, even willing to undergo refinement.
Why is it flashing with golden light? Does this mean I've accumulated merit again?
Xining paused for a moment, then lowered the banner and went downstairs.
When they reached the stairwell, they saw Roger and Lisa lying there, both badly injured, after running out and falling down.
She crouched down to check, and Lisa had just fainted from fright, while Roger kept clutching his arm and crying out in pain.
"Jiang, my arm feels like it's broken, it hurts so much!" Roger leaned against the wall, clutching his limp arm that he couldn't lift, crying and sniffling.
"Let me see." Xi Ning reached out and gently tugged at his injured arm.
"Ouch, ouch, ouch! Be gentle, be gentle—" Roger cried out in pain.
Just as Roger cried out in pain, Xining suddenly glanced up at the stairwell and exclaimed in feigned surprise, "Ah, a ghost!"
"Huh?" Roger instinctively turned his head to look.
In the blink of an eye, Xining pulled and pushed, and with a soft "crack," the dislocated arm was firmly put back in place.
"Ouch—" Roger cried out in pain, but after recovering, he touched his shoulder and immediately burst into laughter through his tears: "Hey? It really doesn't hurt anymore! I'm all better!"
"Don't do any strenuous activity for a month, and try not to use this arm. Take good care of it," Xi Ning instructed as she reached into her storage bag to retrieve something.
Young people are physically strong, so a fall won't cause them much harm. But if it were someone like Vice Dean Sai, who's seventy or eighty years old, who knows what might happen if he rolled down the stairs.
Roger hadn't even wiped the tears and snot off his face when he gave a thumbs up: "Jiang, you're amazing!"
"Mm," Xi Ning responded, raising her hand and slapping a sleeping talisman onto Roger's forehead. (End of Chapter)
