Harry Potter and the Great Old Ones
Chapter 696
“Seriously, Ron, you have to go and have a serious talk with Lavender.” On the morning of the match against Hefpatch, Harry, wearing his Quidditch amulet, said to Ron, “If you want to break up with her, just say so.”
"You can't let Lavender bother me like this anymore."
"Is she still bothering you?" Ron, also wearing a Quidditch amulet, chewed on an egg and bacon. "I thought she'd given up on me long ago because I ignored her."
"Honestly, Ron, don't you think what you're doing is a little... um..." Hermione, who was also eating breakfast nearby, carefully chose her words, "a little... scummy?"
Because of today's Quidditch match, Hermione, unusually, didn't sit with the group of talented young people from Germany during breakfast to discuss their research plans. Instead, she sat next to Harry and Ron, cheering them on for their Quidditch match.
“Seriously, Ron, if you don’t like Lavender, I think you’d better talk to her and make things clear as soon as possible, lest you drag it out too long and she gives you a love potion too,” Hermione said.
“Hermione is right,” Harry chimed in.
He was utterly fed up with Lavender constantly dragging him along to talk about those boring, lovey-dovey topics.
And nine times out of ten, they even say the exact same thing.
"Ahem... Okay, okay, I... I'll talk to her and explain after the Quidditch match," Ron said, looking troubled and embarrassed, then glanced at Hermione with a slightly apologetic expression.
"Um, Hermione, I have a favor to ask... could you... could you..."
"No." Before Ron could finish speaking, Hermione interrupted him mercilessly, "Solve your own problems and don't always try to use me as a shield."
"Please, Hermione, you have to help me! You have no idea how crazy Lavender is! If I just tell her I want to break up, she'll definitely give me a love potion!" Ron wailed.
“If she really did put a love potion on you, I will definitely give you the antidote,” Hermione said. “Besides, even if she’s crazy, it’s your own doing.”
"Hey! She kissed me first!" Ron retorted, dissatisfied. "What could I possibly do in that situation?"
“You can calm down and think about it carefully, and think about whether Lavender Brown is really the girl you hope to spend your life with.”
"The choice is yours; you can choose to refuse." Hermione finished the last bite of her breakfast and then gently tapped her fork on the table. "Alright, I'm done eating. I'm going to head to the Quidditch pitch to get a good spot. Good luck, boys."
After saying that, Hermione picked up the books placed beside her and walked out of the Great Hall without looking back. "She's so heartless," Ron muttered.
"This is trouble you brought upon yourself."
"Oh, right, and McLean too!" Harry said with a headache. "Ron, you absolutely, positively, absolutely have to do a good job this time!"
"What's wrong with McLean now?" Ron asked, puzzled, clearly still reeling from what had just happened with Lavender Brown.
"He heard from somewhere that you were under the influence of a love potion, and then he started pestering me every day, saying that your brain had been poisoned by the love potion and that he hoped he could be the goalkeeper in this match."
“That McLean!” Ron slammed his fork on the table in anger. “How could he say that! Harry, you have to kick him out of the Quidditch team.”
“He didn’t do anything wrong,” Harry said. “Even if I were the captain, I wouldn’t have the authority to fire a substitute who didn’t do anything wrong, so I hope you do well this time and make McLean stop bothering me.”
“Of course, brother.” Ron said confidently.
He clearly already knew that the "Felix Feringe reagent" Harry had put in his cup last time was just juice.
“And get Lavender sorted out as soon as possible!” Harry said. “You have no idea how annoying those two have been lately!”
"Oh, okay, I'll take care of it after Quidditch." Ron immediately became dejected again and said weakly.
"Remember this!" Harry, without even realizing it, adopted Hermione's expression and said to Ron with a hint of frustration, "If you don't deal with this soon, I can't guarantee that under Lavender's constant chatter, I won't accidentally consider McLean's suggestion and hand over your goalkeeper to him!"
"Okay, okay, I'll definitely tell Lavender Brown!" Ron put down his knife and fork, unusually leaving half a fried egg on his plate, and hadn't even had time to drink the milk in his glass. "Let's go, let's go, it's time for us to go on stage."
"Remember this!" Harry said solemnly as he stood up.
"Okay, okay, I know, I know," Ron hurriedly pushed Harry toward the Quidditch pitch, seemingly unwilling to continue the conversation.
