After the divorce, I started to transfer
Chapter 1831 Underestimating One's Charm
After finishing breakfast, Chen Feng and Molly returned to their hotel room. Since they had to visit the Lampson family estate to see Mr. Williams at noon, they chatted for a while and watched TV before getting ready.
Originally, Chen Feng hadn't planned to meet Mr. Williams during his trip to New York. However, the old man contacted Molly by phone, inviting her to his home for dinner. As a junior, Chen Feng naturally couldn't refuse.
According to custom, Chen Feng should bring a gift when he visits, but he didn't bring one this time since he came from China. He wasn't sure what to buy on the spot. Fortunately, Molly was prepared; she said she had already prepared a gift for Chen Feng—a set of expensive, original imported teaware from China, but it wasn't with her at the moment; it was at her mother's house.
Her mother and father each own houses in downtown New York, while her family owns a ranch in the suburbs. She has been staying in New York with her mother, Adeline, for the time being.
So before heading to the Lampson family estate, the two first visited Adeline's home in New York. It was a large single-level house next to Central Park, with a living area of nearly 300 square meters, and the walk-in closet was larger than an average person's bedroom.
When Chen Feng and Molly arrived, her mother, Adeline, wasn't home. They didn't stay in the house for long; Chen Feng was quite curious, so Molly showed him around, and they stood on the large balcony with its floor-to-ceiling windows, overlooking Central Park.
After taking the expensive tea set, the two went downstairs and set off for the Lampson family estate. The distance between the two places was a bit far, more than 30 kilometers.
Fortunately, it wasn't rush hour, so the traffic wasn't too bad. With a seasoned hotel driver in the limousine, the journey was relatively quick. About 40 minutes later, the car arrived smoothly at the Lampson family estate.
Upon seeing Mr. Williams again, and presenting him with the gift Molly had bought for Chen Feng, Mr. Williams' attitude towards Chen Feng became noticeably warmer. He stood up from his chair, walked towards Chen Feng, shook his hand, and affectionately patted his arm before inviting him and Molly to sit down on the sofa nearby.
"John, I'm so glad that your relationship with Lily has remained so stable. If possible, I would very much like her to marry you; you two would definitely be a happy couple."
Chen Feng was not one to mince words on this matter, and directly shook his head in refusal: "You know, I've already told you before that I can't marry Molly. Maybe I'll never get married again in this lifetime."
Chen Feng certainly had the reasons and the courage to refuse. Before he had even demonstrated his ability to cure cancer, he had already refused to become the son-in-law of the Lampson family.
Therefore, even though the old man now hopes Molly will marry him and no longer requires her to be a live-in son-in-law, Chen Feng still refuses.
Seeing this, Williams could only shake his head and sigh, "That's such a pity. You and Molly seem so well-matched, and I like you very much too. If you could become my grandson-in-law, it would undoubtedly be a great thing."
"I'm sorry to disappoint you," Chen Feng could only say.
Williams shook his head again, then tactfully changed the subject: "I keep in touch with Bill and know that you can cure not only cancer, but also severe autism and depression, which is truly amazing. You're practically a saint walking among men! I happen to have an old friend whose grandson has a severe intellectual disability. He's almost 30 years old, but his mental age is still that of a 3-year-old. So, could you help treat his grandson's intellectual disability?"
Chen Feng was somewhat bewildered by this question. His previous attempts to treat depression and autism were already absurd enough, but now the other party actually wanted him to treat intellectual disabilities. If his blood could turn a fool into a smart person, wouldn't it be considered sacred blood? Although his blood did indeed possess similar effects, turning a fool into a smart person was still too unbelievable, too fantastical.
So after pondering for a few seconds, Chen Feng shook his head and said, "I think the possibility is very low. The depression and autism patients I treated before all had normal IQs; their main problem was some physiological issues. The severe intellectual disability you mentioned is likely due to relatively good physical health, but there are obviously serious problems with their IQ. This is clearly not a physiological disease, and I think it will be very difficult to treat."
Williams said, "My friend's grandson's problem isn't hereditary. It started when he was three years old, after he had a high fever that wasn't treated in time. So it's probably a brain issue. If your blood can cure his brain problem, it should restore his brain to normal. With some training and education, his intelligence could gradually improve, instead of remaining at the level of a two or three-year-old forever."
Seeing his reaction, Chen Feng thought for a moment and then said carefully, "I still think the chances are slim, but if you and your friend are willing to give it a try, I certainly have no problem with that."
Upon hearing this, Williams smiled and nodded, saying, "Very good, my friend and I are willing to give it a try. Moreover, my friend and I feel that there is a high chance of success, and the worst outcome can't be worse than it is now."
Chen Feng nodded and said, "Okay. You and your friend can choose the time, but it would be best if it were after the day after tomorrow. As for the location, it would be best if it were San Francisco or Los Angeles. Because I'm going to San Francisco tomorrow to handle some matters related to my charitable foundation. Also, your friend should know that the treatment will cost $2 million, right?"
Williams smiled and nodded, "Of course. My old friend is richer than me; $2 million is nothing to him. In fact, if he were to owe someone a favor, it might be more valuable than your $2 million."
Chen Feng thought to himself, "A favor worth $2 million? That's outrageous. Even if you were the President, you wouldn't be worth $2 million for me to do."
However, Chen Feng still said, "I don't like having others owe me favors. Besides, I'm getting this $2 million to invest in a charitable foundation for public welfare and charity."
“Alright, whatever you want. Since you've agreed, I'll contact my old friend later. San Francisco or Los Angeles is fine, you can choose one first, and I'll tell him. He and his grandson will fully cooperate with your and the medical team’s treatment.”
After thinking for a moment, Chen Feng said, "Let's go to Los Angeles then. I'm a little more familiar with it. You and your friend can help pick a location, preferably one with existing medical facilities. Have Bill Hicks' medical team follow up on this, and let me know when the time comes."
"Alright, then it's settled." With that, the old man waved his hand at him and Molly and said, "Alright, I know you don't want to talk to this old man any longer. You can go and do your own thing. I'll have the housekeeper notify you around lunchtime. Also, you should hurry up with the matter of having children. I'm getting older and I want to see your children as soon as possible."
After saying that, Williams waved to the two of them. Chen Feng and Molly didn't say anything more and quickly came out of the old man's study.
Molly felt a little bad and explained to Chen Feng, "My grandfather has been quite busy these past few days, I hope you don't mind."
Chen Feng smiled and said, "What's there to mind? He didn't put on any fake politeness with me; he was very genuine. That means he considers me one of his own, so I don't need to be so reserved."
Molly laughed and said, "That's true. Didn't you hear what he just said? He really wants you to marry me and wants you to become part of our family."
Chen Feng ignored her question and instead asked, "Is Norma always busy? Isn't she in New York?"
Norma is Molly's cousin, and her relationship with Chen Feng was, of course, "very good." Chen Feng had been in New York for two days now. Normally, if she were in New York, she should have seen him, but she hadn't, nor had she contacted him. Of course, Chen Feng hadn't contacted her either.
When Molly heard Chen Feng ask this, she glanced at him sideways, a half-smile on her face, and said, "Have you forgotten? She's getting married this December, so we all think it's best if you and she don't contact each other anymore." Chen Feng frowned slightly and said, "When you say 'we,' do you mean you and Norma, or does it include others? Shouldn't only the three of us know about Norma and me?"
Molly said, "Of course, I kept her affairs strictly confidential. I didn't even tell my mother, and of course, I didn't tell Norma either."
Chen Feng said, "There's nothing wrong with her meeting me, right? Besides, aren't marriages between big families just a formality? Many couples who get married through marriage still live separate lives."
Molly said with a hint of amusement, "Many of the marriages in our families are not voluntary, but that doesn't mean the couples live separate lives. Many couples in arranged marriages are very happy; it's the minority who live separate lives. Norma is a rather traditional woman; once she has chosen a marriage partner, she wants to at least remain physically faithful to her fiancé."
Chen Feng said with a hint of amusement, "We're at least friends, right? I came all this way to meet her, it's not like we have to sleep together. Why is she so wary of me? She won't even see me?"
Molly shook her head with a wry smile and said, "She doesn't want to meet you, not mainly because she's afraid you'll do something to her, but because she's afraid she won't be able to control her feelings for you, you know? Sometimes you really do overlook your own attractiveness and charm to the opposite sex."
Upon hearing this, Chen Feng was taken aback. Although he had known for a long time that he was handsome, especially in college, aside from the time Liu Ying embarrassed him in his freshman year, he was actually quite popular among the girls at school, even though he didn't have much money at the time.
It's clear that after entering society, even with a woman like Shen Lin, who is considered quite outstanding, liking him, not minding his poverty, and even risking severing ties with her family to marry him, his inner confidence gradually eroded and disappeared under the constant blows of reality. It wasn't until after his divorce, due to the accumulation of wealth, that his inner confidence slowly grew again.
But to be honest, he wasn't confident enough to make Molly, Norma, a noblewoman from a top-tier family in the Merriam-League, fall deeply in love with him.
In Chen Feng's view, Molly's clinginess to him was mainly due to the need for artificial insemination; she wanted to give birth to a child with special abilities for herself and her family. The old man Williams wanted to marry Molly to him for the same reason.
As for Norma, she's a true powerhouse, the kind born with a privileged family background. Chen Feng genuinely didn't believe she would fall in love with him.
Now, Chen Feng understood from Molly's words that Norma had undoubtedly fallen for him, and was even afraid to see him. Why was she afraid to see him? Undoubtedly, it was because she feared that seeing him would cause her to break her vows, lose control of herself, and be unable to restrain her feelings.
Chen Feng wasn't particularly pleased with this; in fact, he was a little annoyed. Sometimes, having so many women fall in love with you isn't exactly a pleasant thing; it brings more trouble than joy.
"Alright." Chen Feng sighed softly. "From what you're saying, Norma and I should try to avoid seeing each other again. I don't want any trouble in her marriage, and I hope she can have a happy marriage in the future."
Molly smiled wryly and said, "I hope so."
In truth, she didn't think Norma's future marriage would be happy. The reason was simple: she was a firsthand witness, someone who had been through it all. Like someone accustomed to delicacies, asking them to eat coarse grains again would be worse than death.
Having witnessed, appreciated, and experienced Chen Feng's excellence in every way, she couldn't bring herself to settle for another man. Therefore, she didn't believe her cousin Norma could do the same.
But as Molly just said, Norma is a very traditional woman. After establishing a marital relationship, especially one that is an arranged marriage, she bears the heavy responsibility of her family and would never do anything like break off the engagement or betray her family.
In their private conversations, Norma's words subtly revealed her resistance to the marriage, but there was nothing she could do; it was an arrangement made long ago by both families. Norma hadn't objected before meeting Chen Feng.
Chen Feng naturally picked up on a hidden meaning in Molly's attitude and words, but he pretended not to notice. Norma was already engaged, and it was an arranged marriage between families, so he certainly wouldn't interfere, much less oppose or ruin the marriage. Therefore, it was best to avoid seeing Norma again.
"Alright, let's get on that sightseeing bus and you can take me around the manor."
As the two were talking, they had already walked outside the house. Not far ahead, there was an electric sightseeing vehicle that could seat five or six people.
Seeing that Chen Feng didn't want to talk about Norma anymore, Molly naturally didn't say anything more either. After all, she didn't want her cousin to have any close relationship with Chen Feng anymore, so she wanted to avoid seeing him if possible.
Molly quickly pulled Chen Feng onto the electric sightseeing vehicle and drove it herself, taking him around the manor. The manor was really large; a complete circuit took about half an hour.
Molly acted as a tour guide, introducing Chen Feng to the architecture and history of their family estate, as well as some things from their childhood.
Time passed quickly, and when it was time for dinner, Molly received a message from the housekeeper telling them to go back for dinner.
Lunch was, of course, very lavish. Mr. Williams himself was in charge of the meal, with his butler and two maids standing by, ready to serve him at any moment. A dozen or so dishes were served, including Chinese, French, Mexican, and Italian cuisine.
During the meal, Chen Feng and Molly didn't say much, but the old man did. He mainly talked about his past trips to China and some historical anecdotes about China. It was clear that he had some knowledge of these topics, and he spoke quite eloquently.
The lunch didn't end until about an hour later.
The old man then summoned them to his study and had the servants pour them tea and coffee. They had only been chatting for a few minutes when a phone call summoned him away.
Seeing this, Chen Feng and Molly didn't stay at the manor any longer. After tidying up a bit, they took the hotel's limousine back to the hotel.
The two had just returned to their hotel room when Molly received a phone call, and her expression changed shortly afterward. (End of Chapter)
