Chapter 2307 Gathering at the Wharf
"Hurry up, hurry up!" The bandits above cooperated perfectly, now herding all the customers who had been locked up earlier out into the lobby. The customers were panicked, like a flock of frightened sheep, pushing and shoving each other, crying and surging towards the lobby. Zaev and Rorik, who had disappeared for a while, took the opportunity to blend back into the group of hostages.
Following the dozens of customers who had been voluntarily released, they feigned panic and rushed towards the door. Just then, police cars arrived. The sirens pierced the sky, like a clarion call for justice. Seeing the robbers in sight and the customers being released, the police immediately opened fire. The robbers, naturally, retaliated, and a fierce battle ensued. Bullets whizzed through the air, sparks flew, and shouts and gunfire mingled together, creating a chaotic symphony.
While the robbers were still engaged in a fierce shootout with the police, Rorik and Zaev, disguised as customers, had successfully escaped amidst the chaos. They skillfully used the crowd as cover, like two slippery fish, evading all checks. Then, they began the next step of their plan, their figures swiftly disappearing into the chaotic streets.
……
At the abandoned airfield, after a fierce battle, Sergei and Novin finally managed to temporarily break away from the enemy and enter a relatively safe place. They were covered in dust and sweat, and their clothes were torn in several places, but fortunately, neither of them was seriously injured.
"Boss, we're safe now, we're coming to find you." Sergei immediately reported to Colonel Ke Chuan via the communication device. His voice carried a hint of fatigue, but even more so, the relief of surviving a close call.
"Received, well done," Colonel Ke Chuan replied with satisfaction, his tone full of praise for the two men.
“The password has been entered, it’s correct, Pebodes container terminal in Durrës, verifying information,” Chetri said immediately. Her eyes were fixed on the computer screen, waiting for the verification result, her heart filled with anticipation.
"Very good." Colonel Ke Chuan was very satisfied, a barely perceptible smile appearing on his face. He knew this meant they were one step closer to success.
"Hey, come help me up." Daniel lay on the ground, his abdomen a deep red, blood completely soaking his clothes, forming a large, shocking bloodstain. He tried to get up, but it was incredibly difficult; every movement was accompanied by excruciating pain. He could only gasp for breath, his breath weak and rapid, his eyes filled with helplessness, hoping someone would lend him a hand.
However, no one paid him any attention. Even Sergei, who returned to join them, merely watched coldly, offering no help whatsoever. He deeply abhorred Daniel's arms dealing and felt no sympathy whatsoever at that moment.
"Help me! We made a promise, you can't go back on your word," Daniel said anxiously, his voice pleading. His lips were cracked and pale from blood loss.
"You've been selling arms throughout Europe—France, Slovenia, Germany… While it may not be that the guns you sold directly killed my men, your crimes are unforgivable." Colonel Ke Chuan, having obtained the desired code, now showed no mercy to Daniel. He drew his pistol and slowly walked towards Daniel, who lay on the ground, his steps heavy and deliberate, each one seeming to pronounce Daniel's fate. A chilling murderous intent shone in his eyes, filled with rage at Daniel's actions that endangered public safety.
"So what? Are you planning to kill me?" Daniel asked nervously, his body trembling slightly as fear spread through him. He watched Colonel Koch approach step by step, as if he saw death beckoning to him.
“No! I said I'd help you, and I will.” Colonel Ke Chuan handed over the gun, but then pulled it back halfway, a complex expression on his face. “This gun has one bullet in it,” he said. “It’s the only thing I can do to help you.” He then walked a few meters to the right and placed the gun on the tattered wing of a small plane. The plane’s wing was twisted and deformed, as if telling a story of past hardships and suffering.
“Wait, Ariana will send more people. You're putting me in danger,” Daniel said angrily, knowing full well his perilous situation. He tried to struggle to his feet to grab his gun, but the pain from his injuries prevented him from doing so.
By this time, Norman, who had circled around to the other side, had successfully found an SUV. He drove straight over, the wheels kicking up a cloud of dust. The car stopped beside the group, the engine still humming. Then, without hesitation, everyone got in and drove off without looking back.
"It wasn't us who hurt you." Chettley was relatively soft-hearted; she left Daniel with these words before departing. Her voice drifted away on the wind, as if it were her last shred of pity for Daniel.
Daniel was helpless at that moment, able only to watch the vehicle drive further and further away until it disappeared from his sight. Desperate, his gaze turned to the lone pistol on the wing, a mix of emotions swirling within him, unsure of what awaited him… He knew he was about to face unknown dangers alone, and that gun might be his only hope, or perhaps, his final release.
In Durrës, a bustling coastal city in Albania, the Pebodesi container terminal stands like a massive and busy sea fortress on this vibrant land. The terminal covers a vast area, resembling an ocean of steel and cargo. Tens of thousands of containers are densely packed on the pier, arranged in neat rows, carrying goods and wealth from all over the world. Two massive container ships are steadily moored beside their berths, like two floating hills. The ship's huge gantry cranes rise and fall methodically, their mechanical roar accompanying the precise transfer of cargo to the dock. The rhythmic sounds are like the vibrant heartbeat of the terminal, proclaiming its busy and prosperous life. In an open space next to one of the gantry cranes, a gentle sea breeze carries a slightly salty scent. Lorik stands there, hands casually in his pockets, his posture upright, his eyes revealing confidence and composure. Zaev, standing beside him, stood with his hands behind his back, his expression cold and stern, like a frozen statue. Rorek broke the silence first, his voice clear and firm, carried by the sea breeze to Zaev: "We will transport the weapons to Marseille, then hand them over to your men. Payment upon delivery." As he spoke, his gaze was fixed on Zaev, trying to catch a subtle reaction from the man's expressionless face to determine if his proposal was acceptable.
"That's impossible. I must have constant access to the location of the munitions." Zayev replied almost without hesitation, his tone resolute. He frowned slightly, his deep eyes revealing intense vigilance and unwavering stubbornness. To him, the munitions were not merely a batch of weapons, but a crucial bargaining chip for realizing his ambitions; he would not allow any possibility of losing control.
“Mr. Khaidari, you seem to distrust me,” Rorek retorted sharply, his tone carrying obvious dissatisfaction and a hint of provocation. He straightened his posture, meeting Zaev's gaze without flinching, as if declaring his stance and resolve to Zaev. At this moment, he was like a lion ready to defend its territory, utterly unafraid of the other's imposing presence.
"I'll pay you six million upfront, and the rest will be transferred to you after the goods are delivered. Do you perhaps intend to deal with someone else? Other elders? Or family members?" Zaev's gaze was piercing, fixed on Rorek, trying to discern his thoughts from his eyes. His words were like a sharp sword, piercing Rorek's heart and hinting at his suspicions about Rorek's motives.
“We just want money,” Rorek replied seriously, his concise and powerful words revealing a resolute determination. He knew that in this game of interests, clearly stating his demands was crucial. Having said that, he didn't linger, turning and striding away. His steps were firm and powerful, each one seemingly demonstrating to Zayev that his attitude was unquestionable, while also showing his confidence and control over this negotiation.
……
Meanwhile, in that abandoned aircraft parking lot, a deathly silence enveloped the desolate land. Daniel was struggling to crawl towards the wing, his body as weak as a candle flickering in the wind, each inch of movement seemingly exhausting the last of his strength. The wound in his abdomen was like a greedy hole, blood seeping incessantly, leaving a horrifying trail on the ground behind him, like the merciless mark of death dragging behind him. His target was the gun on the wing, the gun that seemed like a lifeline to him, so close yet, to his current weakened state, it felt as if a thousand mountains and rivers separated them.
Just as he struggled with all his might to stand up and grab the gun, Ariana appeared silently behind him like a ghost. Her steps were light and steady, each step as stealthy as a feline's. Her face wore an expression of cold indifference and resolute determination, as if death were nothing more than a common occurrence to her. She easily reached for the gun on the wing, then skillfully removed the magazine and began to examine it carefully. Her movements were fluid and natural, executed flawlessly, displaying professionalism and expertise, making one wonder what kind of past she had that made her so proficient with firearms.
"Who taught you how to use a gun?" Knowing he was doomed, Daniel felt a strange calm. He stopped struggling and simply asked softly, his voice weak but tinged with curiosity.
“Eden,” Ariana uttered coldly, her voice as if it came from an ice cellar, chilling to the bone. Her gaze fell indifferently on Daniel, as if the man before her were merely an insignificant object.
"Heh, can't even lie properly." Daniel chuckled mockingly, a slight smirk playing on his lips. Despite his impending death, he still tried to deliver a final verbal blow.
“No, Daniel, I’m a master liar.” Ariana sneered, a fierce glint in her eyes, as if enraged by Daniel’s words. Her voice carried an air of arrogance and conceit, as if she were proving her abilities to Daniel.
“The British soldiers won’t let you go. I’ll be waiting for you down there,” Daniel said with a bitter smile, a hint of relief mixed with mockery of Ariana. He seemed to already see Ariana’s future fate, and a surge of pleasure welled up inside him.
"Is that so? I'm waiting for them to come to me." Ariana smiled confidently, her eyes filled with provocation and arrogance. She raised her gun, aimed it at Daniel's heart, and pulled the trigger without hesitation. A gunshot shattered the suffocating silence. Daniel's body jolted violently, as if struck by an invisible force, before he slowly collapsed. The light in his eyes dimmed, and the breath of life dissipated like smoke. Ariana gave Daniel one last cold glance at the fallen body, her face still icy, before striding away. Having stubbornly survived the fight against the two bodyguards and endured so many days of pain and struggle, Daniel ultimately could not escape the cruel cruelty of fate and died a miserable death at Ariana's hands.
……
Meanwhile, at the Pebodesh container terminal, Long Zhan and his group, having obtained the code, rushed to the dock as quickly as possible. Unaware that the code had been leaked, and to avoid unnecessary trouble and escalating the situation, they carried no weapons and wore casual clothing, appearing at first glance like ordinary tourists leisurely strolling near the dock. However, their eyes revealed a focus and vigilance completely different from that of tourists.
"Wyatt, Norman, you two scout the port and assess the security level," Colonel Ke Chuan ordered solemnly, his eyes sharp and resolute, scanning the surroundings like a hawk. As the commander, he was acutely aware of the difficulty and danger of this mission; every decision he made would determine the success or failure of the operation.
“We need to access the dockside office database and use Kalmedy’s password to pinpoint the exact location of the arms containers,” Chetri said, her eyes focused and sharp, her mind racing like a machine, rapidly analyzing the current mission and situation. She knew that only by accurately locating the arms containers could they lay the foundation for subsequent operations. (End of Chapter)
