Chapter 881 Slaughtering Evil Spirits
Prince Zhang's words were incisive, directly questioning the original intention of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's great vow.
The young Prince Zhang would never have thought about this question before, but under Huang Mei's pagoda, he did indeed think about many things.
I've figured out many things, but I've also started to doubt some of the truths I used to believe.
For example, is Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's great vow, "I will not become a Buddha until hell is emptied," truly a testament to great compassion?
Those evil spirits who receive Buddhist scriptures after being bathed in the Dharma become Buddhist disciples directly, thus escaping the sea of suffering in hell and achieving the so-called "laying down the butcher's knife and becoming a Buddha on the spot."
Or will they, after understanding the Buddha's teachings, genuinely repent and voluntarily remain in hell to atone for their past sins and compensate the victims?
If it's the former, is that fair to the victims?
Why is it that those who do evil, who fall into hell, can be rescued from the sea of suffering by Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, attain enlightenment, enter Buddhism, and transcend the mortal world?
If it's the latter, then it's considered acting first and reporting later, and Hu Xiuwu will punish him afterwards. Young Prince Zhang is also willing to help Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva by allowing him to stay here.
To truly help those evil spirits to understand truth and goodness, repent of their mistakes, and sincerely accept punishment.
However, Prince Zhang scanned the densely packed evil spirits surrounding him, arranged in concentric circles, their bodies shrouded in Buddhist light, their faces serene.
'If they truly understood the Dharma and repented for their sins, why are these evil spirits still gathered here instead of returning to their respective hells to receive punishment?'
"..."
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva remained silent, speechless. Only after a long time did he sigh, "Alas, Prince, you are indeed different now."
Prince Zhang bluntly stated, "Since Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva has said so, then I'm afraid we should ask the Bodhisattva to leave the underworld and never return in this life."
But in his heart, Prince Zhang was still extremely disappointed.
He originally thought that Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva was not affected by the Vulture Peak and was not implicated by the law of cause and effect.
He should be a true Buddha like Maitreya Buddha, a great enlightened being.
However, the so-called "I will not become a Buddha until hell is empty" was merely a means for Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva to seek the Great Luo realm.
He didn't care about the grudges and grievances behind the evil spirits.
"You bunch of juniors, you actually want to drive away Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva!"
Di Ting, who was lying beside the lotus throne of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, stood up immediately upon hearing this. Its body instantly grew several times larger, as big as a mammoth and as big as a black jade unicorn. It bared its teeth and spoke human language.
Demon Lord Chonglou's tone was even more vicious: "What, you're not convinced!"
"If you're not happy, then bite me!"
Demon Lord Chonglou was already annoyed by this kind of drawn-out probing, and just then, Di Ting stumbled upon it.
If Di Ting cannot accept his provocation, then start a fight directly.
That fulfilled the Demon Lord Chonglou's wish.
Let him give it a try; this person in front of him seems to be a very famous figure in the world of Black Myth.
“Listen carefully, and do not be rude.”
Di Ting couldn't stand the arrogant face of Demon Lord Chonglou, but Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva rebuked it.
Despite still glaring fiercely at Demon Lord Chonglou under the rebuke of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, Di Ting obediently crawled down.
Prince Zhang glanced at the mount of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, the divine beast Di Ting, which is said to be able to hear the voices of all things.
His master once told him that the divine beast Di Ting was a rare species in the world, and there was only one in the entire Three Realms.
Therefore, some people suspect that the mythical beast Di Ting is actually the wrathful manifestation of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. It is said that he cut off a piece of his own wrath and let it fall into the underworld, thus giving birth to the mythical beast Di Ting.
Just like the other side of the Buddha, Acala.
Having witnessed Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and the divine beast Di Ting today, Prince Zhang knows that the stories his master told him were not unfounded.
It turned out to be true.
One can infer the emotional fluctuations of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva from the behavior of the listening ear.
He was enraged several times and even had murderous intent several times, but in the end, he was suppressed by Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
Prince Zhang said regretfully, "It's such a pity. When I heard that you were still saving evil spirits in hell after the incident at Mount Ling, I thought you were different from the other bodhisattvas at Mount Ling."
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva remained silent, only putting his hands together in prayer: "Since you all do not welcome this humble monk, then this humble monk will take his leave."
Upon hearing this, Di Ting did not react at all, but simply knelt before Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, ready to carry him on his back at any time.
Only the surrounding evil spirits, upon hearing that Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva was about to leave the underworld, wept bitterly, and for a time the wind in the sea of red spider lilies was filled with ghostly wails.
"Bodhisattva, Bodhisattva, you can't leave!"
"Bodhisattva, what will we do now that you're gone?"
“Bodhisattva, let’s kill them together. They are no match for us.”
"Noisy!"
Killing intent surged into the sea, and demonic power blotted out the sky.
A pair of roc wings obscured the already gloomy sky, and beneath the wings lay a murderous intent; each feather was a killing sword hanging in the sky.
The crying and pleas abruptly stopped.
However, the Demon Lord Chonglou is not a good-tempered person. He has already been angered, so it is impossible for him to simply stop being scared.
Those who anger the Demon Lord will pay with their blood.
Chonglou disdains to fight with the weak, but that doesn't mean the weak can act recklessly in front of him.
That's something a good-tempered god like Fei Peng would do, not something a demon lord like Chonglou would do.
How can one go unpunished after making a mistake?
Teng Teng Teng!
Blood-red flames burst forth on the sky-covering wings of the roc, until all the feathers on the wings were ablaze with ominous blood flames, dyeing the sky red, the crimson light even overshadowing the sea of spider lilies on the ground.
When the red light filled the sky, the sky could not bear so much blood flame. One drop, two drops, three drops, four drops, until it poured down.
Countless fiery red feathers fell from the sky, like thousands of arrows shot by a demon army.
Except for the areas where Prince Zhang and other allies of Demon Lord Chonglou were located, all areas were subjected to indiscriminate attacks by the Crimson Flame Feathers.
The feather, imbued with the power of flames and the raging magic of Demon Lord Chonglou, could shatter an evil spirit with a single shot.
These evil spirits in the sea of red spider lilies are only fit to run wildly under the feathers, crying out to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva for help.
However, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva merely erected a protective shield of Buddha light that only enveloped himself and Di Ting, and then simply lowered his head and closed his eyes, turning a blind eye to the scene of the slaughter of the evil spirits that he had painstakingly guided into Buddhism and who had already comprehended the Dharma. He pretended to be deaf and dumb.
Let those evil spirits die in the sea of red spider lilies, or flee in terror, turning into wisps of ghostly smoke and disappearing without a trace.
Ten thousand years of hard work, all for naught at the last moment.
But Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva still kept his head down and eyes closed.
When Demon Lord Chonglou saw Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva act this way, he felt displeased: "Tch~, what a coward."
