Over at the old mansion, I used the dispelling spray, not wanting to waste time battling ordinary wild Pokémon. Since I'm not a collector and not particularly interested in completing my collection, I didn't try to catch most of the Pokémon I encountered, only managing a few. I used the spray to defeat high-level ordinary Pokémon to gain experience. Even with the dispelling effect of the spray, I still occasionally encountered Pokémon, and high-level ones were still a possibility.

Over there, they caught an Unown, a Pokémon at level 99, thinking they'd struck gold. With such a near-max level, they figured they'd be quite powerful. However, they discovered they couldn't learn many moves; many were unlearnable. They could only use their existing Normal-type move, called Awaken. The move's type and power depended on the user; some dealt more damage, others less.

The Unknown Totem can only be leveled up to level 100, after which it cannot be leveled up any further. The Pokédex entry states that the Pokémon has a very thin body and is always embedded in a wall; its appearance must have some significance.

The characteristic of Unknown Totem is that it can float and is not affected by Ground-type moves. It is effective against Ground-type attacks and has some advantages, but it cannot learn other moves, so it is not used.
