Chapter 2412 (5)

Judging from the mobile phone technology of the Year of the Snake and the Year of the Horse in the mortal world, that phone, apart from its somewhat outdated chip and poor camera capabilities, was not backward in many other aspects, and I thought it was alright.

The downside of that phone is its weak photo quality. For some reason, it automatically and maliciously optimizes the image, making photos with normal ISO settings appear very dark. The image sensor itself isn't bad, but the image detail is even worse than a five-year-old phone. The only solution is to increase the exposure, take multiple photos, and select the better ones to keep.

The phone I was using had a 512kbps storage capacity. Surprisingly, even after more than two years, that capacity wasn't outdated; it was still a mainstream large-capacity configuration. The 12kbps RAM was also quite good. Phones with one-capacity capacities were mostly flagship models, and they were very expensive, costing seven or eight thousand, or even tens of thousands of yuan. Two-capacity phones weren't widely available.

It's said that the massive algorithms and applications of artificial intelligence require a huge number of chips, leading to an increase in the price of electronic components, and even raising the recycling price of older chips. Older phones that were originally worth tens of dollars in recycling might now fetch one or two hundred dollars. The exact recycling price depends on the price offered by the recycling company.

In the latter half of the Year of the Snake and into the first half of the Year of the Horse, the pace of mobile phone product updates slowed down. The top-tier mobile phone chip launched in the Year of the Snake scored over four million points in benchmarks, but a year later, a two-nanometer chip is still not on the market and may have to wait. Its benchmark score might reach five or six million, and its compatibility with artificial intelligence should be even better.

I've been looking at over a dozen new phones over the past few months, and most of them are upgrading hardware protection, offering a certain level of drop resistance and water resistance. According to the promotional materials, some phones, even when manufactured, withstand several tens of minutes of rain or simulated household water splashes under laboratory conditions without malfunctioning—that's indeed quite good. However, the promotional text states that the water resistance rating will decrease with use. How long a superior water resistance system can maintain its effectiveness is hard to say.
