Chapter 2417 (6)

The gold-inlaid jade pendants I bought include small ornaments with patterns such as gold ruyi, gold ox, gold gourd, gold lucky bag, gold bamboo, gold pixiu, and gold rose. Some of those gold-inlaid jade pendants are attached to the bottom of the external monitor, and some are attached to the side of the desk lamp, used as decorations, and they look alright.

When illuminated, the surface of gold shines, radiating the glow of wealth. Even pure gold leaf, though only a thin layer, can have beautifully pressed gold patterns.

Those ornaments only used small pieces of mid- to low-grade Hetian jade or jadeite. Gold leaf was pressed onto the surface of the jade, and the gold leaf was glued to the jade. The amount of pure gold leaf used was very small. Because it wasn't recycled, the exact number of milligrams of pure gold used is unknown, but it's estimated to be only a few tens of milligrams, and that's an optimistic estimate. The total amount of pure gold used in multiple gold leaf-attached jade ornaments might be 0.1 grams, or one hundred milligrams. Gold has extremely high ductility; it's said that one or two grams of gold can be used to make several square meters of gold leaf.

I saw online that a fraction of a gram of gold can be used to make the surface of a marriage certificate, and one gram of gold can even be used to make the surface of a picture, but it is so thin that it needs to be covered with a plastic film to prevent it from being easily knocked off.

Many handicrafts are made of copper-zinc alloy with a gold-plated surface, but the actual gold content is extremely low. They are covered with plastic or glass to isolate them from the air, and if properly preserved, they can remain largely unchanged in color for decades. The gold plating enhances their perceived value and provides some resistance to oxidation and corrosion.

Watching video footage of archaeological discoveries, one can see that some high-purity gold artifacts, even after hundreds or thousands of years of storage, will still shine when exposed to light after cleaning. However, unearthed silver, copper, iron, and other metal items are severely oxidized, with impurities on their surfaces, and some have such thick rust that they cannot be restored to their original state. Computer technology can be used to restore these items to their former beautiful condition.

Gold's stability is legendary. There are even legends that some extraterrestrial technologies use gold to create and repair things, suggesting it has other uses.

The price of gold in the mortal world has skyrocketed, so the price of those gold-inlaid jade items I bought was reasonable. However, they contained very little pure gold, so I don't need to think about how much they were worth; they were just mid-range small ornaments.

The gold-inlaid jade pendants in that shop were on sale. There were probably hundreds of items originally displayed, but the larger pendants, which used more pure gold leaf, had already been sold out. The remaining items were being offered at a discounted price. I've visited the shop many times, sometimes buying one or two gold-inlaid jade pieces, and other times buying other mid- to low-end jewelry.
