Qin Yao smiled and said, "Buddha Donglai misunderstands. I have not cultivated Taoist immortal techniques. I only gained enlightenment through a Taoist scripture and am currently trying to comprehend Buddhist techniques from Buddhist scriptures."

However, it is almost impossible to master Buddhist skills by studying Buddhist scriptures and learning them on your own without a teacher.

These words startled the Buddha of the East, causing his lips to tremble and his mind to race. It took him a full half-cup of tea's time to finally formulate his words:
“Xuanzang, I am very pleased that after you attained enlightenment, you did not forget your identity and instead sought the path of cultivation in Buddhist scriptures.”

However, what you cultivate is not the key point; the key point is that you cannot cultivate yourself on the journey to the West.

"After the journey to the West is over, you can cultivate however you like. The higher your level of cultivation, the happier Buddhism will be."

Qin Yao looked surprised and said, "If I remember correctly, the underwater agreement you just mentioned was that Buddhist disciples are not suitable for practicing Taoist magic, but it didn't say that they couldn't practice magic at all."

If one could obtain the scriptures while still possessing cultivation, why would Jin Chanzi need to become Tang Xuanzang?

Qin Yao said, "As far as I know, Jin Chanzi transformed into Tang Xuanzang because he was punished, right?" "Don't try to downplay the issue or be vague," the Buddha of the East waved his hand and said, "In short, as a pilgrim, you can take on disciples with great supernatural powers, but you cannot cultivate yourself!"

Qin Yao feigned sudden realization: "I understand now. You just want to see me suffer, right? Like some cruel people who enjoy watching wild animals howl in their cages, which gives them immense pleasure."

The Buddha of the East's face turned unusually red, and he said softly, "Xuanzang, you must not speak falsehoods!"

Qin Yao shook his head and said, "This is not a wild claim, but a deduction based on facts."

The reason is very simple. You said that because of my practice, there was a huge uproar in the Buddhist community, but I didn't see it.

What I see is that you are coming to obstruct my spiritual practice without stopping.

It can't be because you've opposed the pilgrimage from the beginning and are afraid that the final result will harm your interests, so you can't accept the pilgrims' spiritual practice during the process, right?
It's even less likely that you'd be hoping I'd die on the journey to the West, causing the mission to fail.

No way! I don't think it's possible!

So after ruling out that possibility, it's only the one I mentioned: you want to see me bullied, humiliated, made a fool of, crying and whining, showing my utter ignorance.

The Buddha of the East's face grew redder and redder as he listened, until he finally lost control and reached out to grab Qin Yao: "Stubborn fool! Xuanzang, I can see that you have been bewitched by demons. I will exorcise the demons for you and bring you back to your senses."

"stop!"

Sun Wukong's expression changed drastically. He quickly summoned his golden cudgel, which grew longer and stabbed at the Buddha of the East.

Donglai Buddha raised his left hand, and with a bang, his palm grabbed the top of the golden cudgel, while his right hand was already infinitely close to Qin Yao's neck.

Just then, a suction force suddenly came from the void, instantly pulling Qin Yao from the ground to the sky, where he finally stopped on a white cloud.

Beside him, Guanyin appeared in her physical form and said softly, "Buddha from the East, have you forgotten what you promised the World Honored One?"

The Buddha of the East then calmed down, transformed his palm into a fist, and forcefully smashed away the golden cudgel. He then looked at Guanyin and said:
"Don't you find this strange? Xuanzang had already traveled more than half of the journey to the West. He didn't understand the mysteries of the universe earlier or later, but he suddenly understood them after meeting the Six-Eared Macaque, and even developed a rebellious mentality towards cultivation."

Therefore, I have ample reason to suspect that this is a conspiracy against Buddhism, and the Six-Eared Macaque is the catalyst for it.

Guanyin said, "I don't find this matter strange, but I do think your reaction is a bit too extreme."

Ordinary people might do meaningless things when they're in the mood. But you are not an ordinary person; you never do meaningless things.

So, as Xuanzang said, why did you so vehemently oppose his spiritual practice?

"Didn't I already say that I'm doing this for the sake of Buddhism's reputation and its future?" said the Buddha of the East, his words righteous and stern.

“Strange,” Qin Yao suddenly interjected, “Is it a disgrace to Buddhism for a monk to practice Buddhist supernatural powers? I don’t understand, I really don’t understand. Please enlighten me, Buddha.”

Buddha of the East: "..."

After a long silence, he took a deep breath and looked at Qin Yao, saying:

"You've experienced too little in your life, and your perspective is too narrow, which is why you have this doubt."

Are you an ordinary monk? No!

Only the true scriptures you obtain through trials and tribulations are worthy of praise and will bring glory to Buddhism.

Conversely, if you obtain the true scriptures too easily, it makes them seem cheap, and Buddhism will consequently acquire a cheap image.

Qin Yao sighed softly, “Buddha, I feel something is wrong. Perhaps I am just ignorant, but I do not think suffering is worthy of praise, nor do I think that spreading Buddhism by making things difficult for someone makes it more glorious. Buddha Donglai, we are not from the same world, and our thoughts are different.”

The Buddha from the East questioned, "You are not qualified to talk about your own thoughts now. You will be qualified after the journey to the West is over!"

Alright, I don't want to waste any more time talking to you. Since the World Honored One has sent me to take charge of this matter, you can forget about continuing your journey unless you cripple your own cultivation.

Xuanzang, are you really willing to abandon the Tang Emperor's trust and the people who desperately need the true scriptures to save them, all for your own selfish gain?

Qin Yao let out a long breath and said, "What a Buddha from the East! He's clearly trying to make things difficult for me and threaten me, yet he makes it sound like I'm so selfish."

It is often said that a gentleman deceives others with reason, but I feel that good people should not be threatened like this.

Since you've blocked our path, we'll stop here. We'll continue our westward journey once we've overcome this obstacle.

The Buddha of the East's face immediately turned cold: "Xuanzang, I don't understand why you want to fight."

Is it because you don't trust your apprentices' abilities and think they can't protect you?
Or is it that after you cultivate, you feel that having magical powers will make things easier for you in the future?

Qin Yao's gaze gradually sharpened.

That old guy is really good with words; every word he uses is aimed at the heart of the matter.

If it were the original owner of this body, that kind monk, he really wouldn't be able to handle it, but he's not, and his words are certainly not lacking!
"Neither! If I had to give a reason, it would be that I had a dream after I attained enlightenment."

In my dream, I dreamt of being killed, and I only practiced cultivation to avoid this disaster.

As everyone knows, I am the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi, and I certainly don't have dreams without a reason. Perhaps this is a result of fate.

By the way, the point at which we face certain death is during the journey to the West, not after. Is that clear enough for me?

The Buddha of the East waved his hand and said, "Dreams are something that no one but you can verify. You can say whatever you want, but how can that be used as a reason? Who would believe you if you told them?"

Qin Yao said calmly, "Proving this isn't difficult; just look at the Wheel of Time. Does the Buddha of the East dare to make a bet with me?"

The Buddha from the East's pupils contracted: "What are you betting on?"

"If the Wheel of Time can prove that I did indeed face a life-threatening situation during my journey to the West, then please stop using this matter to haunt me," Qin Yao said. "You can't deprive me of my chance to live just because of your will, can you?"

Buddha of the East: "..."

Seeing the other party's confident demeanor, even he couldn't help but wonder: Could it be that Tang Xuanzang really had such a dream, and that he was truly in danger of being killed?

After much hesitation, the Buddha of the East was unwilling to take the risk and said, "As the Buddha of Buddhism, how can I make a bet so casually? Xuanzang, stop making excuses. I'll say it again: without destroying your cultivation, you will not be able to continue your journey to the West!"

Qin Yao sneered and said to the sky, "With all the gods and Buddhas above, I believe you all understand."

It wasn't that Xuanzang was selfish and insisted on practicing Buddhism, but rather that someone was deliberately making things difficult for me, even trying to kill me!

I am not afraid of death, but I am afraid that if I die, the great mission of obtaining the scriptures will be in vain.

"Could any immortal please pass a message to the Jade Emperor in the Lingxiao Palace, asking him to intervene on my behalf?"
