Chapter 1083 Bree Town
The guards finally found the mayor huddled in a haystack in a stable. Judging from the messy scene, he must have been trying to untie a horse and run away. He hurriedly crawled into the haystack after hearing the sound of armor rubbing together. The scattered gold and silver on the ground told of the haste and panic.
"Mayor! They're coming in!" The guard swallowed hard, his eyes filled with fear and horror. After all, the probability of several thousand troops appearing in Brie was lower than the Nine Rings themselves! (The Ringwraiths during the War of the Ring: Oh? Is that so?)
In the end, the mayor didn't manage to escape. He was forcibly dragged back by the guards. After all, if the mayor ran away, wouldn't those people take their anger out on them, the officers, since they couldn't find the person in charge? The guards were quite willing to comply; no one wanted to test their neck against a knight's sword...
"Greetings, Your Excellency! I am the mayor of Buri—Hari Bibab! May I ask what brings you here with your army?" The mayor stood shakily on the wooden wall, his head trembling as he asked Omske.
"We are the allied forces of the North! Several kings and lords have come here in person, why don't you come out to greet us?" Omske called out the names loudly again. Those shameful titles made everyone's feet twitch. Among them, Caslo's shocked gaze made Roland's face burn. Only Marquis Al-Tegran Franz remained expressionless, but he had already begun to silently memorize them in his mind, so that he could use them to flatter Roland in the future!
……
"Welcome, Your Highnesses. It is an honor to have such a place in our town. If we have any hospitality... if we have not been so hospitable..." Harry Bibab said tremblingly, making it easy to believe that he was about to pass out. Roland was afraid that he would not be able to catch his breath and would scare Roland to death.
"It still tastes familiar!" Thorin rushed in first, closed his eyes, opened his arms and slowly spun around a few times. This was the starting point for his restoration of his kingdom!
“Several years have passed and little has changed here!” Roland nodded after looking around. The town of Brie in his eyes was basically the same as the Brie in his memory.
The original text describes Bree as follows: Bree is located east of the Old Forest, at the crossroads of the East Road and the North Road, near the southwest corner of Chetwood. Bree sits on the western slope of Mount Bree. A deep ravine encircles Mount Bree, encircling the town; within the ravine is a dense hedge. There are two gates, one on the west and one on the south of the hedge; outside the west gate, the East Road intersects with the north-south running North Road, leading into Bree through the west gate and out through the south gate. During the War of the Ring, these gates were closed after dark and guarded (Harry Goatleaf guarded the west gate during the War of the Ring). Bree belongs to the Bree region and is its most important village (besides Bree, the Bree region also includes Archet, Koum, and Steddo). There are about a hundred stone houses in the town of Bree, mostly located on the hillside; the hobbits, on the other hand, prefer to live above the houses, in higher places on the hillside.
However, Buri still has some military strength in this world. Roland roughly counted about fifty guards on the wooden wall. These people should be Buri's only military force. The permanent population of Buri town is only about one or two thousand people. With the three attached villages and various transient populations, it would be considered a lot if there were 5000 people. It would be quite good if these people could support fifty soldiers.
"The soldiers here are well-equipped!" Bard nodded to himself. He had a keen eye and could tell at a glance that the armor was solidly made and heavy, as if he had seen it somewhere before...
"Nonsense! Those were all built by the dwarves, one hammer blow at a time!" Thranduil scoffed, not even bothering to look at where Thorin used to live. Bri was once one of the dwarven settlements, because the dwarves needed to sell their equipment in the market to exchange for supplies and drinks! Bri, as the intersection of the Northern Road and the Eastern Road, was a major transportation hub, so it's not surprising that dwarves had settlements there. However, there are no dwarves there now. Most of them went to the Lonely Mountain to find their king, while a small number followed the newly crowned King Balin of Moria back to Moria. Because of Roland's intervention, the dwarven power in Middle-earth is more prosperous and powerful than in history!
"No wonder it looked familiar! It's dwarven equipment!" Bard rubbed his forehead.
"Dwarves sell their equipment all over the world, so I wouldn't be surprised if an orc wearing dwarven heavy armor fought me!" Thranduil said calmly, after all, there was so much dwarven equipment circulating around!
“Yes, the dwarves have lost a huge quantity of black arrows! I have no idea how many are hidden in those nooks and crannies!” Roland was also exasperated. Black arrows are just ordinary arrows to others, but for Lagrang, they are undoubtedly a sword hanging over their heads! Those things can really bring down dragons! After the fall of Lonely Mountain, the black arrows from Lonely Mountain didn't escape, but Moria was the former capital and smelting center of the dwarves, and nobody knows how many black arrows are there… The most crucial point is that the place is occupied by orcs! “My God!” Roland's head was spinning just thinking about it. After all, even Bard's family had a stockpile of black arrows… It's clear that black arrows aren't exactly rare items for nobles!
"Tell the soldiers not to come in, set up camp near the town!" Roland looked at the situation in Buri Town; clearly, this small place couldn't accommodate his army of several thousand men.
“Yes!” Caslo nodded.
"Arrange the night patrols! Don't have anyone stand guard at night in the River Valley!" Roland instructed again.
"Huh? Why are you discriminating? My soldiers are elite too!" Bard frowned, his expression sour, clearly dissatisfied with Roland's arrangements.
"How many professionals are among your soldiers?" Roland glanced sideways, giving Bard a knowing look without saying much. He didn't want orc assassins or scouts to infiltrate the camp and cause chaos! Although White Wing didn't have many professionals, they were all cavalry! Their mobility was miles ahead of those on foot!
"Aragorn, come with me!" Roland glanced at the sky, called to Aragorn, and headed towards the town hall. The mayor was all smiles, looking completely willing. Roland didn't stand on ceremony and gladly accepted the mayor's offer to give his group the house.
……
"Have you considered taking over Brie?" Roland tapped his knuckles on the table.
“No, no need! You have already provided so much!” Aragon, unsure of Roland’s meaning, thought Roland was testing him and quickly refused, afraid of displeasing Roland and being seen as greedy.
“Don’t worry, Bri belongs to the Northern Kingdom! In other words, it has always belonged to you!” Roland saw Aragorn’s concerns and comforted him.
"I intend to retake North Ridge and restore my rule there!" Aragorn declared, revealing his plans.
“We still need to keep Brie under control. We can’t put all our eggs in one basket. If Northhill is besieged by the Orcs, at least you’ll have a place to retreat to and wait for reinforcements!” Roland shook his head. He knew that Middle-earth would not be peaceful in the future, so he told Aragorn to make plans early and not let the Orcs charge in!
