The Most Powerful Brain in the Interstellar Space
Chapter 2: A Tragedy Caused by a Bucket of Instant Noodles
Chapter 2 A Tragedy Caused by a Bucket of Instant Noodles
However, before Jiang Hui could even lift the lid of the instant noodle cup...
"Ding dong dong dong, ding dong dong dong, ding dong dong dong..." The phone rang.
Jiang Hui was so angry that she almost threw her fork away. She glared at the instant noodles in front of her as if they were her enemy.
As expected, people have to return to reality. Forget about watching meteor showers, this miserable office worker isn't even worthy of eating a fresh, hot bowl of instant noodles?
Jiang Hui glanced at the instant noodles one last time with grief and indignation, grabbed her phone from the table, stuck a fork into the edge of the noodle cup, and stormed out to answer the call.
Without a doubt, it must be a client who made her revise it forty-three times. The client's nitpicking was the worst Jiang Hui had ever encountered in her life, to the point of being insane.
There are many clients who insist on calling you to work overtime after get off work, but have you ever heard of someone who insists on revising a single paragraph three times, reading it through three times after each revision, and then finding a specific section to revise for you? If you don't revise it for them, they'll complain that you're unprofessional and threaten to complain. If you ignore them, they'll actually file a complaint.
Some might think that if they don't have to deal with this kind of eccentric behavior, being complained about and having their wages docked is worth it. But that's not the problem. The complaint involves harassing her boss in the same way, causing him endless annoyance... and in the end, it will all come back to Jiang Hui to handle.
Isn't this a terrifying vicious cycle?! Jiang Hui has only been working at this company for a year, and she has already dealt with this client's contact person four times. This is the fourth time, and each time it has tormented her to the point of despair, even making her want to quit immediately.
However, she was always coaxed back by her boss with sweet talk, simply because the pay was substantial. It's true that the boss used money to persuade her, which came at a high price; otherwise, finding a cheap worker with the patience to nag such a stubborn person would be quite difficult.
After finishing the call, Jiang Hui returned with her brows furrowed, her eyes, nose, and mouth all wrinkled as she clutched her phone.
Her eyes fell on the instant noodle cup, her gaze somewhat vacant, as if they had been hollowed out in just a few minutes.
The girl sat down abruptly as if she had lost her soul, making the hard bench creak. Her eyes fell on the instant noodle lid and then on the timer statistics in the lower right corner of the computer screen.
She's already worked seven hours of overtime today, can't she at least have something hot to eat?!
Jiang Hui angrily slammed her left hand against the table a few times, ignoring the pain in her palm from the recoil. Finally, unable to contain her anger, she furiously pounded the top left key with her fingers. When emotions run high, she's capable of doing anything foolish, and she doesn't even think straight.
Although this movement was accomplished with only two fingers, it was no less forceful than slamming a whole hand on the table earlier. As soon as the former movement landed, the instant noodle cup on the table jumped forward, moving half an inch, its edge perfectly resting against the edge of the computer keyboard.
Where Jiang Hui couldn't see, the string of ornaments hanging outside also jumped, flashing a stream of light, as if activating something and emitting a series of faint sounds.
"Tick-tock-tock—" After a while, it was unclear whether the sound came from a TV program or the ticking of a clock.
The girl's mind went blank. Oh no, BBQ time! Will everything be wiped out?!
In her extreme panic, a chill ran down the back of her head, spreading from her skull down her neck and back. Her entire back felt cold, while her face and chest were burning hot. This contrast of cold and heat was driving Jiang Hui crazy.
If we really erase it all, wouldn't we be back to square one? What is she getting so worked up about with a computer? What is she doing, acting like she's fighting a bucket of instant noodles? Has she finally been driven crazy by the client's forty-fourth revision?
Jiang Hui knew that what she should be worried about now was not this, but whether the contract she had spent the whole day revising had been erased by her momentary impulse.
But then she suddenly seemed to have a change of heart, went crazy, and even thought with great pleasure that if she didn't have this contract, she would be free and wouldn't have to work anymore. Should she just quit her job? The thought of losing the documents and having her computer broken made her realize that she might not have to work anymore. In that instant, a feeling of blissful elation flashed through her mind, and a strange, secret expectation rose from the depths of her heart.
Wait, what is she thinking?!
Jiang Hui wondered if she had been controlled or if she had lost her mind. How could she have thought that?
Ugh, I've revised this contract forty-three times and am about to go through the forty-fourth! Time is money, and this is all money, money, money, I can't afford to waste it.
Jiang Hui's face changed drastically, turning red then white, then bluish-white, and her eyes went blank again.
Time passed slowly, and watching the computer screen flicker a few times before finally settling back on the original interface, she breathed a long sigh of relief—it seemed that fate had not forsaken her, and the forty-fourth modification was finally a success.
It's just a little regrettable, what can I do?
Sigh, I'd better just finish making the changes and then shut down the computer and ignore everything else.
Jiang Hui rested one hand on the keyboard and picked up the instant noodles with the other, preparing to put them aside. But when she glanced at the bright soup and the slightly soaked noodles peeking out from the gap, she couldn't help but pause.
Um... I'd better eat something first, otherwise she'll starve to death before she finishes her work. She's been working for ages and hasn't had a single bite yet; one bite shouldn't be too much to ask, right?
Jiang Hui finally succumbed to her craving, lowered her head, and with her eyes slightly downcast, picked up a skewer of noodles with her fork.
She didn't see the dark night sky above the house, which was shrouded in mist and glowed faintly, and a series of soft, crisp sounds echoing inside and outside the house.
Just as the mouthful of noodles was about to reach her lips, the girl's gaze drifted to the side, landing on a computer screen that flickered black. Her pupils dilated as she looked up, only to see the black screen accompanied by strings of completely incomprehensible red gibberish that automatically appeared, scrolling down line by line, as red as the blood in her heart.
My mind was on the verge of collapse, but my hand moved forward out of habit. The still-scalding hot soup startled me, causing me to gasp and drop the noodles onto the back of my hand. Then, triggered by the triple stimulus from my mind, brain, and body, I reflexively flicked my arm, knocking the noodles over and soaking the entire computer.
—That's the end of it.
Jiang Hui couldn't suppress a short scream. Instant noodle soup splashed all over the computer screen, creating a shimmering, electric-like network of light. Meanwhile, the black desktop continued to display a steady stream of red gibberish.
It was at this extremely terrible moment that meteors fell from the sky outside, as if a sky full of stars had fallen.
Jiang Hui felt hundreds of sharp, thin streams of force enveloping her from behind, enveloping the entire ground, extending to the table, the computer, and even herself, before finally being thrown out by a massive torrent.
She lost consciousness amidst a sky full of shooting stars.
