Chapter 68 Single Dormitory
Jiang Hui went straight to the dormitory area from the school administration office. It was already four or five in the afternoon, and it would be dark in a little over an hour, so she wanted to get everything settled in the dormitory as soon as possible.

She did indeed run into peak hours, as everyone squeezes in at this time to handle procedures in the residential area.

Fortunately, Jiang Hui had already researched it in the brochure. There were four types of dormitories here. One type was the shared dormitory, usually a unit for seven people. The price was quite affordable, and it was practically free after offsetting the school subsidy. However, some more outgoing and sociable people might prefer this type of dormitory. This type was the closest in size to the dormitory she had at her school on Earth.

Then there are two types with slightly fewer students: four-person dorms and double dorms. These are quieter and are the most popular type of dorm among students. With fewer students and a less complicated environment, it's easier for students to maintain relatively stable relationships.

Finally, there's the most spacious but also the most expensive type of dormitory: the single dormitory. As the name suggests, it's for one person, and the space is quite large, comparable to a four-person dormitory. The only downside is that living alone can be a bit lonely, and these dormitories are usually located far from the teaching area, requiring you to walk the longest distance each day.

Jiang Hui was quite keen to follow the crowd and choose a four-person dorm, but considering her eccentric sleep schedule and the potential problems with her mental space—she often stayed up all night—she worried that getting up when she couldn't sleep would disturb others, while staying up would suffocate her. She decided it was better to stay alone. The price was actually quite reasonable; almost all school expenses included subsidies from the Empire, making them incredibly cheap.

She applied for a single dormitory room with the staff in the living area. The good news was that there were still single dorm rooms available. The bad news was that the dormitory was located in the area furthest from the teaching area and quite close to the male dormitory area.

"Sorry, student, this is the only room left. Because of different schedules, students majoring in military science are assigned to separate dormitories from students majoring in other sciences. This year, many female students have chosen single dormitories. If you come any later, you will only be able to choose a four-person dormitory or a standard seven-person room..." The staff in the living area looked troubled. Perhaps they had been asked too many times before, because they gave a long reply before Jiang Hui even asked.

Jiang Hui was about to say something, but when she glanced at a female classmate walking over, she immediately changed her mind and said, "Okay, this is the single room. Could you please help me with the formalities? Thank you."

The female staff member seemed startled, paused for a moment, then nodded and quickly processed Jiang Hui's paperwork online. She then gave her a strangely shaped metal object that looked like a key, informing her that the system had arranged for living supplies to be delivered to the dormitory registered for her by the robot. These were included in the dormitory fee, and basic necessities were distributed quarterly.

After all that, Jiang Hui arrived empty-handed again, only remembering a room number to settle in at the dormitory area.

So Clarence really meant well for her, but she didn't take it to heart, and now she has to live in the farthest place.

However, it's only the first day of school registration, and single and double dorm rooms are already booked. There aren't many four-person dorm rooms left either. Does that mean that students who register later won't have any choices and will only be able to stay in standard rooms? Jiang Hui thought that this could be considered a small reward from the school for students who actively came to school.

It's a single dorm room anyway. As for being quite far from the teaching area, she can just get up earlier to go there in the future. In fact, all single dorm rooms are quite far away, it's just that the one she lives in is particularly far.

So Jiang Hui walked towards her dormitory building, stepping into the last lingering sunlight.

By the time she arrived at Dormitory Building N, it was completely dark. It was past six o'clock, and Jiang Hui regretted not going in to eat when she passed by the cafeteria earlier. But when she passed by, she saw everyone else coming from the dormitory area looking neat and tidy, or already entering the cafeteria in groups, chatting and laughing, so she didn't really want to go in. Then she remembered that she hadn't been assigned to her own dormitory yet, so she rushed there as if she were in a hurry.

"Never mind, I'll see if I can buy some fast food downstairs later. That'll have to do for now. I'll figure it out tomorrow." It's her first day at school, and there are still many things to arrange. Jiang Hui won't feel at ease until everything is settled.

It's understandable why the single dorms disappeared so quickly. Standing in front of the dorms, they were indeed quite quiet compared to other types of dorms. Each building was only about ten stories high, with no more than three single rooms per floor, and about thirty rooms in total.

There are so many female students from all departments in the intermediate college. Military majors are separated from general majors, so it's normal that there aren't enough rooms.

Jiang Hui quickly found her room number on the sixth floor, opened the door and entered the dormitory where she would be living for at least a year, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

The dormitory is quite spacious, about 20 square meters, with one bedroom, one living room and one bathroom. The room is very simple, just a bed. Although it is called a living room, it feels more like a study and activity area, with simple stools, bookshelves and a huge desk that is a bit like a workbench.

Jiang Hui didn't feel anything special. After all, it's a school, and the conditions are limited. This is already pretty good, especially considering she paid several times the price to reserve a single dormitory room.

She briefly inspected the room, checking the fixtures and fittings for any issues. Then, she disassembled the household items piled up in the entryway and placed them back in their proper places. She also arranged the items she had brought back from home that were stored in the spatial storage.

After an hour or two of adjustments, she finally managed to set up the dormitory. It didn't look like there were many things, but in reality, they were all quite messy, which was quite a hassle.

This was the first time Jiang Hui had done so many things manually since arriving in interstellar space. She had initially thought that almost everything here was automated, but it turned out there were still things that required manual labor. It seemed the school wanted to improve students' manual dexterity and self-reliance.

Jiang Hui was exhausted and didn't want to eat, so she set an alarm and went straight to sleep. Then, as usual, she woke up in her mental space, read a book, fiddled with her mecha model, and waited for the twenty-four hours to pass. However, since she had already slept, waking up in the real world would only allow her to use her personal terminal to read.

She used to intentionally adjust her sleep schedule because she always felt uneasy sleeping in the mental space, fearing it would have a negative impact on her health. But after these days of experimentation, Jiang Hui discovered that sleeping in the space really didn't affect reality at all; the feeling was about the same as when she actually slept, and she even felt better mentally.

So Jiang Hui can basically sleep whenever she wants now, and then wake up in or outside her mental space to study. That's why she insists on living in a single dormitory room.
