Chapter 1765, Chapter 398: Best Idol

The ratman elder snorted coldly, letting Olme wander around the quarry again and again.

Annan wasn't sure if Ruth had seen him. He wished he could stand on a rock and shout, "All eyes are on me!" But if he continued wandering around, the rat-man elders would really become suspicious.

"Don't try anything funny. I will take the place of the succubus queen, who is as fierce as a volcano when dealing with enemies, and as warm as her own people when dealing with enemies!"

As Annan spoke, he walked out of the quarry.

Outside the quarry, brown rats sat on the ground in twos and threes to rest. A lone rat-man huddled beside a pile of stones, holding two models in his hands. One was his own image from "Bram Stoker's Dracula," and the other was a frozen block of clay, indistinguishable as either a rat-man or a demon.

It grabbed the two little figures and bumped them back and forth, making onomatopoeic sounds like "whoosh," "bang," and "smack," having a great time.

Annan glanced at it and looked away, but suddenly stopped just before leaving the quarry.

He remembered that when Ruth left Liberty City, he entrusted all his belongings to Evelyn for safekeeping, taking only one of his own models with him.

Although my model is quite common, how could I possibly have an ordinary brown rat?

Annan turned back to the puzzled rat-man elder and found the brown rat still squatting there playing.

The clay monster had been defeated and trampled underfoot by "itself".

"Russ?"

The brown-haired rat shuddered, its cloudy eyes reflecting the image of Annan crouching before it.

Is it really it?

Annan wasn't sure if it had found Ruth, knew Ruth, or just happened to shiver.

"Is this your model?"

Annan pointed to "himself," which the brown-haired rat thought he was going to take away, so it hugged him tightly.

Its reaction was that of an ordinary brown mouse, at most a brown mouse that likes itself... Could it be that it's overthinking things?

"You recognize it?"

The rat-man elder stepped forward, interrupting Annan's train of thought.

“I suspect it is related to the deaths of the previous three envoys, and I need to take it back for investigation.”

In any case, this brown rat is the only clue we've found so far, so let's take it back first.

The rat-man elder realized that Olme had just recognized it and immediately refused, "No way!"

Annan narrowed his eyes, realizing the problem: "Why?"

The rat-man elder also knew himself: "Because it is a spy planted by the Annamese."

Annan looked stern and deliberately said, "Didn't you say Annan Reeves was your ally? How come there's a spy among you?"

“We’re just using Annan’s stuff… Olme, that’s perfect. What are you holding?” The ratman elder suddenly noticed that Annan was holding a magic stone.

"Oh, this is the magic recording stone, the thing used to capture magical images. The succubus queen, who is both wise and beautiful, sent me to keep an eye on you, so of course I have to film everything in the camp."

"Don't worry, what I just said should...maybe...probably won't reach Annan Reeves' ears."

The rat-man elder was finding it difficult to cope; he actually felt a sense of unease, as if he were facing Annan...

Annamese bastard, you say you don't have succubus blood? This succubus looks exactly like you!
No… Olme is just right… Olme is just right… Olmedo!?

The ratman elder had a terrible idea: Olme just happens to have connections with Free City.

Annan's guess that Olme was just right was too far-fetched, so much so that the Ratman Elder did not consider that possibility.

"You know Annan?" the rat-man elder suddenly lowered his voice. "No, I'm just an ordinary succubus. How could I possibly know the rising star of humanity, the future Supreme Thirteen Kings?"

It really does know Annan, and even their shamelessness is exactly the same!
If Olme were a demon, the ratman elder could use the fact that this ratman was a spy, and that the demons had actually sent a spy to turn the tables on them. But if he were from Annam, it would have to think twice.

Unlike Annan's "Loyalty that isn't absolute is absolute disloyalty," and the idea that "if you don't do big things with me, you're not a friend," the Rat Elder prioritized his own interests above all else.

It dared not betray its clan, nor did it dare betray Annam.

"Olme, just right, don't push me..."

The rat-man elder had threatened the wrong person. Annan waved his magic stone, spitting as he spoke: "Don't push me, my head isn't working properly!"

"Since you're our ally, we'll hand this spy over to you."

"You know the truth."

Annan put away the magic stone with satisfaction, took Ruth with him, and left the quarry.

The ratman elder stared coldly at the succubus's retreating figure with his crimson eyes.

As long as it remains in the camp, the Annamese will never know what happened!
……

Good news, Ruth has been found. Bad news, Ruth isn't doing well.

After sending the two Blade Demons outside to guard the gate, Annan asked Ruth, "Do you remember me?"

Ruth couldn't understand, so Annan switched to the Ratman language, at which point it shook its head to indicate that it didn't recognize the language.

"Then do you still remember who you are?"

“I am… a ratman… something…” Ruth said haltingly.

"You're a lust demon, don't you remember?"

Ruth shook his head, and Annan then mentioned that he was a succubus who had been sent to Free City by Beros and then sent to the ratman camp by Annan.

When the names of the Succubus Queen, Biros, and himself were mentioned, a hint of confusion appeared in Ruth's eyes, but that was all.

No one knows what happened, but Ruth seems to have forgotten everything from the past. Apart from holding onto the Annan model that refuses to budge, he's no different from a brown rat.

Is it cursed?
The entire far north is a magic-forbidden zone, so even if Annam wanted to help, he couldn't.

At dinner time, Annan couldn't bring himself to eat the suspicious minced meat that the rat-man contraption had brought, while Ruth and the two Blade Demons ate with great relish.

Annan watched as Ruth buried his head in the rice bowl, still clinging tightly to his model, and couldn't help but sigh.

Who would have thought that a mighty succubus would be treated so badly? Those rat-men are truly heinous!
Come to think of it, the ratman elder's easy agreement to let Russ take him away was probably with the intention of killing him to silence him...

Whether the previous three envoys found Russ or any clues, Annan didn't know. But he knew that if he didn't find a way, he would follow in their footsteps.

Fortunately, now that Ruth has been found, Annan has an excuse to leave early:

As for the six-armed serpent demon, he handled the personal matter she had entrusted to him. He could also say that Ruth knew the clues about the succubus queen.

Whether it actually knew or not was not Annan's concern.

"Cough cough cough..."

Russ ate too fast and choked on the minced meat. When Annan tried to offer him a handkerchief, Russ took it as an attempt to steal the food and guarded it.

Annan had no choice but to retreat and let it eat slowly.

Are there any idols this responsible? I should definitely get the Potter brothers to make a biographical magic video someday.
