Chapter 545 Manhattan Cohabitation Guide
Chapter 545 Manhattan Cohabitation Guide (Part 1)
At 10 p.m., Han Yi and Zhao Youzhen said goodbye to Bill's family on time and embarked on their journey back to Manhattan.
Madison was also there, carrying their luggage.
Because tomorrow, she has to get up at seven o'clock in the morning to go to Newark International Airport with Yoojin to take United Airlines flight UA1328, which departs at 9:01 a.m., to Chicago to participate in Jingle Ball's next performance in Rosemount, Illinois.
It takes much less time to get from Han Yi’s One57 apartment than from his own home on the far east side of Long Island.
Of course, the Aston Martin that Han Yi drove could only seat two people, so Madison requisitioned the Land Rover that Robert had driven to the party today—all of the Long Island girl's preferences when it comes to car brands are deeply influenced by her father.
On the return trip, Youzhen didn't sit in Vanquish's passenger seat. Instead, she insisted on traveling with Madison, citing her concern for Madison driving alone at night. Han Yi didn't object. Everyone was exhausted after a long day, and he and Youzhen couldn't possibly cause any trouble on the way back to Manhattan. Besides, he was worried about Madison's driving skills. She had only had her license for a year and had been involved in numerous minor accidents. Driving alone so late at night was indeed quite dangerous for her.
So, Han Yi, who had been silent the whole way, followed behind the Land Rover and drove smoothly for an hour and a half, covering 82.2 miles and safely escorting Madison and Youzhen back to One57.
It was nearly midnight, and the three of them, exhausted from their journey, did not linger in the salon. They went back to their rooms to wash up and then went to bed.
The next day, Han Yi set an alarm for six o'clock, thinking that only Youzhen would get up early. However, when he passed by the kitchen, he found the two of them chatting and laughing while eating cereal with juice.
"Ha, this is the first time." Han Yi looked at McGrady, who was dressed up and full of energy even though she wasn't wearing makeup, and raised his eyebrows in surprise.
"What do you mean? I get up very early when I'm working," Madison replied matter-of-factly, chewing on her Lucky Charms.
"For example, which time?"
“Like this time,” Maddie said, widening her eyes. “I’m in a good mood today, so the performance will definitely be great. Sir, don’t ruin my mood.”
"Okay, I'll shut up." Han Yi put his left thumb and forefinger together and made a zipping motion in front of his lips.
"Why did you get up so early?" Yoojin asked him with a slight smile.
"Of course I got up to see you off," Han Yi yawned. "Once I see you get into the elevator, I'll go back to sleep... Oh, and what about Fei Yamu and Jian..."
"They just took our luggage downstairs." Yu Zhenxu pointed towards the lobby. "They said they're having the afternoon off?"
“That’s right.” Han Yi nodded. “I’ll extend their Christmas and New Year’s holidays until January 4th.”
"Good boss." McGrady gave him a thumbs up.
"Thank you, I tried my best." Han Yi bowed slightly.
"So who will take care of you these next two days?" Youzhen asked casually.
"I'm going to London the day after tomorrow, who will take care of me?" But this seemingly casual remark sent chills down Han Yi's spine. "And who says I can't live alone? Ordering takeout and playing games at home, isn't that great?"
"Ordering takeout at home alone?" Maddie chimed in, giving him a half-smile. "I thought Grace would fly over to cook for you."
"She's still taking an exam." Han Yi didn't even dare to swallow.
"She better be."
Madison tilted her head back and downed the last bit of milk in her bowl. She walked to the kitchen sink, deliberately poured the remaining Lucky Charms into it, and then pressed the garbage disposal button. Most American kitchen sinks are equipped with a garbage disposal for food waste, and this luxury apartment was no exception.
The sound of the blade spinning at high speed sent chills down Han Yi's spine.
"Let's go, McGrady, let's get to the airport early to avoid traffic."
Zhao Youzhen put down her empty bowl, which was even cleaner than her face, and gave Han Yi a sweet smile. Her expression and demeanor were much calmer and more serene than Madison's, but they gave Han Yi a chilling feeling.
"See you in 2017." Yu-jin's eyes flickered twice before she finally uttered these farewell words, "I wish us a successful tour, and I wish you all the best in Europe."
See you in 2017.
Han Yi hugged the two girls goodbye, and each of them whispered a message in his ear.
“If I catch you meeting Grace in New York or Barbara in Europe, you’re dead, darling.”
No doubt, it's Tracy McGrady.
"I believe you."
Concise and to the point, Youzhen instilled a strong sense of guilt in Han Yi with gentle, spring-like tenderness.
Without a doubt, the latter is more powerful against Han Yi.
He waved goodbye to the two people inside the elevator car, and watched the elevator doors slowly close. Han Yi sighed heavily.
This feeling of being trusted and adored, yet unable to reciprocate with honesty, and only able to betray their trust, was suffocating him.
But what can be done even if that's the case?
The things that needed to be done still had to be done. Because he had made promises to every girl.
Yu-zhen and McGrady had just left when Xiao-ru, who had actually finished her exams yesterday, was about to travel thousands of miles to reunite with him.
After lying in the master bedroom for a while, Han Yi tossed and turned but couldn't fall asleep. He stayed in bed until eight o'clock, then got up and saw off the employees of the mansion management team one by one.
Felix and Harold flew away last night. This winter, they will not return to Copenhagen, but instead go to Morocco in North Africa to join their family who are spending the winter in Marrakech.
Fiyamu Delvich doesn't celebrate Christmas, but he plans to use the holiday to return to Albania to see his relatives before heading back to Los Angeles to celebrate the New Year with his wife and children. Kian Griffin, born in New York and with most of his family still living in the city, finds it most convenient to drive to the Bronx to go home.
Sofia Ortiz, who has Latin American heritage, is the most devout of the Christian holidays. Due to her immigration status, she is unable to take her two children back to Chiapas, Mexico, to celebrate with most of her family members living there, even though the salary Han Yi pays her is enough to cover her round-trip airfare.
But Sofia was not defeated by the difficulties. According to her, she had made an appointment with several Mexican-American families who were in the same situation as her and could not leave the United States to hold a grand Christmas dinner together on December 25th, leaving sacred and beautiful memories for their young children.
This is a rare treat for Mexicans who have almost no days off throughout the year.
Fiamu left One57 for Kennedy at nine o'clock, Sofia went to LaGuardia at eleven o'clock, and Kian waited until lunchtime before leisurely packing his luggage, buying a hot dog downstairs, and driving away from Manhattan humming a tune.
As for Corey McIntosh, he specifically booked the British Airways BA176 flight that departed from JFK at 7:10 pm, so that he could travel with Han Yi, who was going to Teterborough, and stand guard for his boss one last time.
"Please be careful on the road, Mr. Han."
Standing in front of the car door, Corey was dressed in a suit and tie, just like always. If it weren't for the suitcase next to him and the backpack overturned on top of it, you would never guess that he was about to go on vacation.
"I said I'd give it to you, but it turned out you were the one giving it to me."
Han Yi was both amused and exasperated, yet deeply moved at the same time.
His own housekeeper was indeed a trustworthy and capable assistant, someone he could rely on in certain ways.
"Mr. Han, it has been a great honor to serve you over the past year. I hope 2017 will bring us even more precious memories."
“Yes, Corey. 2017 is going to be a good year.” Han Yi reached out his hand from the car. “Have a safe journey, Corey, see you next year.”
"See you next year, Mr. Han."
"Don't forget to send me a Christmas card from England... Oh no, I'm going to England myself in a couple of days, so I don't need to send one."
“I will still send one, Mr. Han. You are going to London, but the greeting card I send will be sent from Brighton.”
"Alright, then I look forward to your blessings from the southern coast!"
Instead of saying goodbye, Han Yi waved and drove west on 57th Street under Corey's watchful gaze.
He's going to visit Tetborough for the third time in two weeks.
"I'm here, baby."
Almost at the same time as when he picked up Youzhen last time, Han Yi arrived at Meridian Airlines' Southern FBO.
He parked his car in front of the hangar and nodded to each of the staff members who were already very familiar with his face. Then, he turned on his phone and sent Xu Yiru a voice message via WeChat.
Less than half a minute later, Xiaoru replied with two messages.
"Okay, thank you for your hard work, Yi Yi baby!"
This sentence is described as slippery, sticky, and gooey.
"Wait for me! (*≧ω≦)~"
This sentence is a combination of cute and charming text and emoticons that leap off the screen.
Han Yi rested his phone on his chin and let out a satisfied sigh.
I never expected that dating Xiaoru would be such a great experience.
The already sweet girl has now transformed into a cup of SOMA's original tea au lait, and the extra sweet kind at that.
Looks like I'll need to keep a few insulin syringes on hand from now on, so I can inject one into my upper arm when I have a sugar overload.
"It's okay, drive slowly, no rush."
After making that joke, Han Yi waited two or three minutes but didn't receive a reply from Xiao Ru. So, he switched to ESPN and started watching the sports news with great interest.
Han Yi knew that there was only one reason why Xiao Ru didn't reply to his message immediately—the plane was descending and Captain Christian had turned off the WiFi.
This means that he has at most forty minutes left before he sees Xiaoru again after half a month.
On December 13, 2016, the weather was perfect. The New York winter sky was like a polished sapphire, clear and cloudless. Although the sunlight carried the chill of December, it generously bathed the earth, illuminating the airport runway and making even the fine dust particles in the air seem to dance in the beams of light. This clean and crisp weather perfectly complemented his cheerful and expectant mood.
The guilt that had weighed on his chest because of the words Yoojin left behind when she left had temporarily settled into some unnoticed corner of his heart.
Han Yi turned off the engine, rolled down the window, and let the slightly chilly breeze caress his face. His gaze was fixed on the sky at the end of the runway, patiently waiting for the Gulfstream G650ER to come into view. In this pure waiting, time seemed to stretch out, yet the joy of anticipation made it less unbearable.
He could almost picture the pleasant squeak of the tires gently brushing against the runway as the plane landed smoothly.
Like the prelude to the opening of a sweet melody.
Soon, a small silver dot appeared in the distance. It was piercing the azure sky, slowly descending, and the increasingly wide wings in the sunlight shimmered dazzlingly. Han Yi's heartbeat seemed to quicken quietly with the gradually clearing outline of the plane. He straightened his collar, which didn't need straightening, and the corners of his mouth involuntarily turned upwards. Just then, his phone "dinged," and a new message from Xiaoru after receiving a mobile network signal popped up on the screen:
"I can see the airport! Hehe, I'll be able to hug you soon! (`)"
