Chapter 990 "Psionic Storm" (64) Ransom and Hostages
Li Ang was puzzled; area B14 was always quiet.
Dr. Joseph H.D. Dane was a meticulous old scholar who brought all the tedious rules of the ivory tower of academia to the company.
The researchers working there were both his students and his subordinates. The old man was quite strict with them, and would scold them harshly for even the smallest mistakes, showing them no leniency whatsoever.
That's why no one dares to make a fuss or create unnecessary noise in this psionic research institute, especially in area B14.
"Maybe one of the researchers got drunk and started acting crazy while working overtime."
Li Ang made wild guesses, his curiosity growing stronger. He tiptoed along the wall, trying not to make a sound, but the noise started up again:
"I don't care! I want to see her right now! We agreed on this a long time ago!"
·
The commotion was coming from the reception room. Li Ang walked closer and found that the door was not closed properly, leaving a crack. He pushed it open slightly with his fingers and peeked inside. Now he could see clearly.
An alien—a pointed-eared Eldar man—was wearing a shabby, worn-out military overcoat.
He kicked over a chair, clenched his fists, and roared excitedly, spitting everywhere.
"You bunch of monkeys (a derogatory term used by the High Eldar of the Ark to refer to the Terran humans)! What have you done to my daughter?!"
“Don’t worry, Mr. Drizzt, your daughter is perfectly fine,” the two men in white coats sitting opposite the Eldar explained calmly.
"She's enjoying herself in the 'luxury suite' we provided~"
"Enjoy yourselves a blessing! You kidnap psionicists everywhere and hide underground to conduct inhuman research! A bunch of beasts!"
"Tsk tsk tsk, that's a really harsh thing to say. We're a legitimate research institute here, dedicated to serving the people!"
·
For Li Ang, the backs and voices of those two people in white coats were all too familiar.
Director Joseph, and the old man's prized student, Dr. Ryan Elsson, head of Project Zero.
Behind the two men in white coats stood four burly bodyguards. These corporate warriors were fully armed and were all elite veterans of the special forces, rehired by the company with high salaries.
These seasoned veterans have extensive experience dealing with aliens. Their fingers rest on the safety mechanism of their AR-19 assault rifles, ready to fire and riddle those pointed ears with bullets, their eyes filled with provocation.
"Who are you trying to scare with that gun? I can wipe out all four of you in an instant!" the Spirit Clan member threatened.
"You can try it,"
The corporate warrior flicked his thumb; with a "click," the gun safety was released, and the laser sight was aimed at the Eldar's forehead.
"Before you even use that dark magic trick, I'll spit your brains out, you believe me?"
The atmosphere suddenly became tense. Joseph turned around and waved his hand, signaling the corporate soldiers to put down their guns and retreat.
"Stop fooling around, we're talking serious business." The old man turned back, staring into the eyes of the Spirit Clan member:
"I can see your daughter, but what about what you promised, Mr. Drizzt?"
The Spirit Clan member, his expression a mixture of ferocity and helplessness, reluctantly reached into his robes, pulled out a folded piece of paper, and slammed it onto the table with a thud.
"This is... a list of personnel from our commune organization stationed at the Shin-Sapporo branch..."
Joseph took the piece of paper, unfolded it, and examined it. "Very good!" He folded it up and stuffed it into his white coat pocket. "Great!"
·
The Eldar's expression was pained and filled with remorse: "I... betrayed the organization... betrayed my comrades who trusted me..."
"There's no future in hanging out with those guys. We humans have an old saying: 'Every man for himself.' There's nothing to be ashamed of. My fellow Spirit Clan member, you just made a rational choice."
"Well, there's something I'm quite curious about," Dr. Lane asked with a smile.
"You Eldar, don't you hate the humans of Terra? You call us monkeys, so why are you joining human organizations and working with those lunatics?"
“We…aren’t crazy…” Eldar Trist said indignantly, “Class has nothing to do with race. Hmph, forget it, I won’t say any more. You bunch of corporate dogs wouldn’t understand…”
“You know what, this old man actually knows a little bit about it,” Joseph said, intrigued.
"I've read the stuff your boss, Patricia Lynch, and Qi Guevara wrote, those underground publications."
The theory is quite outlandish, presented in a seemingly plausible and well-reasoned manner, promising many wonderful visions, but its feasibility is questionable.
Your rhetoric might fool some hot-blooded poor students and stupid country bumpkins. Any adult with a brain wouldn't be foolish enough to go against the Federation and the company; it's like ants trying to eat an elephant—it's laughable.
"Enough! I came to this godforsaken place to redeem my daughter, not to discuss this with you bastards!" The Spirit Clan member lost his patience, banging on the table and shouting.
"Stop talking nonsense! We gave you the things, but where are you?! Where's my daughter?!"
·
"Don't rush, there's plenty of time. There are other tasks for you, Mr. Tristana. I'll be relying on you for the intelligence from the Commune from now on."
The person can't be taken away yet, but a visit is still possible.
"You bastard! You old codger! You broke your promise!"
"Since Mr. Tristana is in a bad mood, let's watch it another time~" Dr. Ryan said with a wicked grin.
"You fucking bastards played me?! You bunch of faithless Terra monkeys!"
Trapped in the demon's lair, the Spirit Race's curses were ultimately nothing but impotent rage. With a sigh, they helplessly lowered their heads.
"At least let me see that she's still...alive...take me there! Now!"
The corporate warrior produced a pre-prepared anti-psy collar, handcuffs, and shackles, and mocked:
"Come on, pointy ears, put these on, or we're not talking!"
“You…you guys?!”
Such humiliation enraged the Eldar, who glared so hard his teeth clenched and his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. With a sigh, he reluctantly donned the anti-phantom collar, handcuffs, and shackles.
"Sorry, these are necessary safety measures." Joseph raised his arm and glanced at his watch.
"It's getting late, and my students and I have to work overtime in a meeting. Excuse me, Mr. Twisted Fate."
Joseph turned to leave, but a corporate warrior chased after him. "Director, we need advanced access."
"Ah, I'm really getting old, look at my brain," the old man thought for a moment:
(High-level access, one of our own, someone we trust... then...)
"Okay, Supervisor Li Ang hasn't left work yet. Go find him and ask him to show you the way. Do you know which number to go to?"
“I know,” the Enterprise Warrior nodded, “It’s that pointy-eared Elven girl who escaped and was captured.”
Psionic Talent #46, Evelyn Darkmoon.
