Chapter 799 I Will Become a Buddha in the Future
Time passes slowly, clouds roll and clouds disperse.
Qieci continued to travel under the name of Budai Monk and went deep into the people.
He was still wearing the washed-out monk's robe and worn-out straw sandals.
Carrying the cloth bag filled with herbs and scriptures, he measured the earth with his feet.
During his travels, Qieci saw too much.
Famine, war, plague, banditry...
One day, Qici rescued a butcher who had become a bandit in a dilapidated town.
The butcher was wounded and his life was in danger.
The butcher repented for his past sins of killing, and used this as an excuse to enlighten us: “Sins are like dew and lightning.”
The butcher opened his eyes and saw that it was a monk who was healing his wounds, so he asked:
"Master, I have killed countless people in my life, and now I have become a bandit. I have committed heinous crimes, but why did you save me?"
Qieci looked at him and just shook his head: "Sins are like dew and lightning, they are all illusions."
"As long as you sincerely repent and let go of your past sins, you can achieve Nirvana."
The butcher sighed: "I have committed too many sins of killing, am I worthy of this?"
Qieci just smiled and said, "I have committed more murders than you."
After hearing what Qici said, the butcher couldn't help but remain silent.
After a long time, he struggled to get up, picked up the knife beside him, and broke it with force.
Then he knelt on the ground and said: "Master, I am willing to lay down my butcher knife and take the vow to convert to Buddhism."
"From now on I will follow you and never do evil again."
Since then, the butcher has been following Qieci.
He is a huge man with great strength.
While traveling, he carried a cloth bag for Qieci and did many righteous deeds.
However, fate is always unpredictable.
One night, the two of them stayed in the village.
But unexpectedly, a fire broke out in a family's house.
Seeing this, the butcher rushed into the sea of fire without hesitation, trying to save the villagers.
Just as he was rescuing the villagers, a burning beam suddenly fell and hit him.
The butcher lay on the ground, watching the fire begin to burn his body.
The heat continued to spread throughout his body and seemed to ignite his soul.
The butcher did not struggle in pain, but closed his eyes: "I have finally gotten what I asked for in this life."
"I hope what I have done can make up for the sins I have committed."
Just when he was about to close his eyes, an arhat suddenly came to lead him.
Luohan put out the fire and rescued the butcher from under the beam.
Lingyan Arhat was in the air, nodded slightly to Monk Qieci, then turned to the butcher and said:
"Although you have committed murder in the past, you are able to put down your butcher knife and sacrifice yourself to save others. Now can you follow me to the West?"
The butcher heard this and a pleased smile appeared on his face.
He looked at Le and Qici again, and saw Qici nodded slightly.
He clasped his hands together, bowed deeply to Qieci, and then disappeared into the night sky with the Arhat.
Watching the butcher leave, Qi Ci felt a lot of emotions in his heart.
He remembered the butcher's confession, his transformation, and his heroic act of sacrificing himself to save others.
I suddenly felt that as long as I sincerely repented,
If you let go of the evil thoughts in your heart, everyone has a chance to be redeemed.
So Qieci picked up a pen and wrote these eight big words on the paper: "Put down the butcher knife and become a Buddha instantly."
Several years later, Qie arrived at a city shrouded in plague.
The streets were deserted, and occasionally one could see a few uncollected corpses lying on the roadside.
Due to the raging plague and food shortage, there was a tragic scene of people eating their own children.
The monks who were supposed to be there to help the poor and the needy closed the temple gates.
Just to protect themselves, they don't care about the lives of the people outside.
This situation has long been commonplace.
In this epidemic city, the most important thing is the cleanliness of the water source.
Qieci stayed here for nearly three years. He gathered the people to dig wells and provide water.
He also cured the disease and distributed medicine, and rebuked the monks: "It is not empty to avoid the world, but to see someone dying and not help them is to fall into the devil's way!"
Inspired by this, three young monks volunteered to follow him into the epidemic area.
Qi gave him the "Compassionate Medical Heart Sutra" and ordered him to use "medicine as Buddha's hand and magic as Sanskrit sound" to treat patients.
A young monk had seen too many deaths and was thinking of quitting Buddhism. He used the metaphor of "a dead tree coming back to life" to describe it: "You see corpses, I see reincarnation."
After hearing this, the young monk put aside his views on life and death and joined the ranks of curing illnesses and saving lives.
The epidemic in the city was gradually eradicated, and the monk began to travel around the world with Qi.
I see that I am quite interested in medicine, and I also have a kind heart to help the world.
It was in the deep mountains and old forests that he was given the complete copy of "The Buddhist Sutra of Compassion and Medicine".
He was also ordered to live alone in the mountains to collect and identify herbs for three years. Eventually he could recognize hundreds of herbs and diagnose diseases.
The monk suddenly realized and studied the medicinal properties in depth.
He also added many useful simple prescriptions for treating various diseases to the "Compassionate Medical Sutra" to benefit more people.
The two continued to travel around the world, and from then on, the legend of "Master Yaojue" was added to the legend of Budai Monk.
Decades have passed, and the deeds of Zen Master Yaojue have spread throughout the country.
People were grateful and respected him for his medical skills and compassion, and revered him as "Medicine King Bodhisattva", saying that he could "cure a hundred diseases with a single leaf and eliminate a thousand disasters with a single thought."
Sure enough, ten years later,
The Arhat of Lingyan came down to earth again to guide Zen Master Yaojue, who flew away on a cloud and achieved the status of a Bodhisattva.
Because of the incident with Medicine King Bodhisattva, I was inspired by this.
I have been traveling around the country, practicing medicine and saving people from suffering.
It is certainly a good deed, but there may be another way to spread one's own Buddhist philosophy.
Enlightening the Buddhas seems to be a very meaningful thing.
From then on, Qieci embarked on the journey of traveling again.
His footsteps have covered mountains, rivers, towns and villages.
With this in mind, he traveled the world, enlightening all living beings. In just three hundred years, eight people who were enlightened became Buddhas.
There was a butcher named Abi. He had been slaughtering sheep for generations and had killed countless people.
Abi has been using the knife since he was young, following his father. He never shows any emotion, even when the knife flies everywhere.
When his mother died of a serious illness, her body was covered with ulcers, but he was unable to help her.
He knelt in a pool of blood and suddenly realized that the suffering of all living beings might be like the pain of a mother.
The same was true for the cattle and sheep that they slaughtered.
Qieci happened to pass by and recited a stanza to him:
"The knife fell into the river of blood and the fire of karma burned, and the loving mother shed tears to reflect the past. If you can change the butcher knife into a lotus platform, you will find the shore when you turn back from the sea of suffering."
Avici immediately burned the butchering tools, converted to Buddhism, and practiced Buddhism, and later became a Buddha.
The words he sighed when he preached are still popular among the people: "All living beings have been my mothers, how can the blade bear to hurt others again?"
……
Miaoyin was once a famous prostitute in Jiangnan. She was stunningly beautiful and talented but her life was miserable.
One day, I happened to hear this lecture in a busy city, and happened to be reciting "Contemplation of the White Bones" and said:
"The beautiful skeleton will eventually turn to ashes, and the broken pipa strings will turn into a pile of bones."
Upon hearing this, Miaoyin suddenly realized that all her efforts in forcing herself to smile and using her beauty to please others for half her life were in vain.
She pawned all her jewels that night to redeem herself, shaved her head and entered the Buddhist monastery. While practicing in the dilapidated temple, she realized the "Miaoyin Zen".
That is, the erotic songs of brothels were replaced by chanting Buddhist scriptures, and the prostitutes were taught to visualize "white bones wrapped in gorgeous clothes, and wonderful sounds turning into Buddha's sounds."
In the past ten years, Miaoyin converted more than a hundred prostitutes, and an Arhat took them away when they were dying.
Later, a golden statue of her was erected in the temple, and she was called "Miaoyin Bodhisattva". There is also a Buddhist memorial written by her that is circulated among the people:
"Back then, I exchanged my rouge for a cassock, and planted lotus flowers amid the sound of the pipa. All living things have the face of Guanyin, so why bury your beauty in the mire?"
……
There is a Confucian scholar named Liu Wenhui who neither recites scriptures nor believes in Buddhism. He even wrote an article criticizing the idea of "rebirth through chanting Buddha's name" as a foolish delusion.
When he was going to Beijing to take the imperial examination, he stayed overnight in a dilapidated temple, where he met a monk named Qici.
When Liu Wenhui saw that he was a monk, he immediately criticized Buddhism for its foolish thoughts.
However, he did not expect that after he fell asleep with the Confucian book as his pillow, he had a "yellow millet dream".
In the dream, he studied hard for thirty years and became a prime minister, but was beheaded and thrown into the market because of party disputes.
When he woke up with a start, he suddenly thought: "What if I pass the exam?"
"Nothing in the world can escape the cycle of life and death."
"I once laughed at Amitabha as a clay figure, but now I know that my own nature is the lotus platform."
He immediately tore up the examination paper, shaved his head and became a monk, and wrote a book entitled "A General Explanation of Confucianism and Buddhism".
Use Confucian knowledge to interpret "all living beings have Buddha nature."
When Liu Wenhui passed away, there were no relics in his robes.
Only when a yellow millet sprouted did the monks in the temple know that Liu Wenhui had been transported to the Western Paradise to become a Buddha and was revered as the "Yellow Millet Arhat".
……
There are priests of the Brahma religion who use the flesh and blood of all living things to refine instruments.
Until he committed too many bloody crimes, the Arhats came and punished him with thunder from heaven.
Monk Qieci suddenly appeared under the thunderclouds, allowing himself to be struck by eighty-one bolts of lightning.
The priest seemed to see the shadow of God the Father amid the thunder and lightning, and it was gradually merging with the Buddha.
He laughed wildly three times and wept for seven days, then he was chained through his scapula and imprisoned in a cave.
He carved a "Confession" on the rock wall with his fingernails, which read:
"To cultivate the Way with the devil is like burning oneself with firewood; to save others with evil is like a feast for the Rakshasa."
Thirty years later, an arhat actually ferried him across the sky.
Because half of this priest's face is like a bodhisattva with lowered eyebrows, and the other half is like a yaksha who is seeking death.
People were afraid of his appearance and therefore respected him as "Yaksha Arhat".
……
The Zoroastrian high priest Arda led 30,000 cavalrymen to the east to attack the Buddhist kingdom and captured 18 cities in a row.
However, a plague broke out in the area, causing the horses to spit out black blood and the soldiers to have ulcers all over their bodies.
He saw that the monks in the city actually dismantled the Buddha statue and exchanged the golden statue for medicinal herbs.
He treated local civilians and soldiers equally and applied different dressings on their wounds.
Arda felt something in his heart and smashed the Holy Fire Altar.
Then, he and Qici, who had traveled here, stepped into the endless desert and taught the Dharma together.
Alda then reversed his fire worship into Buddhism, and saved the whole world with red lotus fire, and was known as "Mingwangzun Bodhisattva".
……
As time goes by, I temporarily live in this nameless mountain stream.
He collected herbs and saved lives during the day, and organized his experiences at night.
With "saving all sentient beings" as the core, the scriptures he wrote emphasize that "if one good thought arises, the sea of sins can be dried up."
Moreover, Qieci also incorporated all the cause and effect cases he saw during his travels into the scriptures.
These cases demonstrate the law of cause and effect, and make people understand that what you sow is what you reap.
On the day when the sutra is completed, burn incense and pray to the heavens: "May this sutra be like a lamp, illuminating the long night of ignorance and darkness."
In the following years, Qici was enlightened in the mountains. He felt that he seemed to have touched the true essence of this world.
As long as you break through a layer of veil, you can touch the truth of Shanbao.
I don't know how many days and nights have passed, but I finally understood the secret of the mountain treasure through cause and effect.
Among them, a future scene of who knows how many years in the future was revealed.
He saw the void swallowing up three thousand worlds, and a giant Buddha was born from the sea of blood.
At this point, I suddenly realized that the so-called mountain treasure did not come from the past, but from the "Buddha" of the future.
Because of the understanding of cause and effect, you will know the retribution of cause and effect.
Everything in the world has cause and effect. You will reap what you sow.
Looking at the future scene shown by Shanbao, he understood that there was also a cause and effect relationship involved.
If you want to repay the karma of the mountain treasure, you need to pass on this "mountain treasure" to the future.
At this moment, a golden lotus suddenly fell from the sky.
When Qieci looked up, he saw that it was the Buddha stepping on the twelve golden lotuses.
At the same time, the endless fragrant mist that was floating in front of Qieci suddenly condensed into a staircase.
There is a Buddha standing barefoot on the fragrant mist, and in the halo behind his head are floating the shadows of the past three thousand Buddhas.
Qi was stuffing half a cold steamed bun into his cloth bag when the Buddha spoke: "You have been wandering around the world for three thousand years. Now it is time to return."
"The Buddha is joking." Qieci shook the bag, and the herbs inside made a rustling sound:
"You see, although this bag of mine can hold the sufferings of sentient beings, I'm afraid it can't hold the fruition of Buddhahood."
Upon hearing this, the Buddha could not help but sigh:
"The Arhats you enlightened have become the guardians of the past. All the worldly paths you have walked have turned into 84,000 Dharma doors."
"Now that the power of the Buddhas' vows has been bestowed upon me, why should I cling to the future kalpas?"
Seeing that Qici remained silent, the Buddha began to exhort:
"And you have reversed the destiny of Brahma, causing thousands of priests to inherit the mantle of Buddhism."
"If you accept my light at this moment, you will become a living Buddha right now."
"May I ask the name of the Buddha?" Qieci continued to shake his head.
The Buddha knew that Qici was asking the question knowing the answer, but he still answered, "Light the lamp."
Instantly, Qieci reached out and picked up a dying light:
"What the Buddha burns is the immeasurable past kalpas, and what Maitreya attends is the Dharma Assembly under the Dragon Flower Tree in the future."
"And I have already made a great vow. I will not become a Buddha until my sins are gone!"
After hearing this, Dipankara Buddha just sighed and said, "If that's the case, I will choose another successor."
"But if you want to achieve enlightenment, it will probably take 5.67 billion years."
Qi Ci smiled and said: "I will become a Buddha in the future. This is destiny and cannot be disobeyed."
His words were decisive, as if they had already happened.
After hearing this, Dipankara Buddha's white eyebrows and long beard trembled uncontrollably: "Have you understood the law of cause and effect and destiny?"
Qici nodded slightly: "Good."
Dipamkara Buddha sighed again, "I am not as good as you in this way."
"But you also need to be careful. The erosion of the void has already begun, and the long river of time will appear in the world."
"After this, time was turbulent, and the past and future were confused, which might be a common occurrence."
Qieci nodded and said, "Please rest assured, Buddha. I know what to do."
Randeng continued, "Well, I have calculated that after two more kalpas, I will be able to transcend the world. I hope you can return soon!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Dipamkara Buddha turned into a rainbow and left.
He secluded himself for a thousand years and wrote the "Maitreya Descent Sutra".
To him, Maitreya means the future.
The last volume of the Maitreya Sutra contains a Buddhist verse: "Until Maitreya attains Buddhahood, his sins will never be eliminated."
Then Qieci sent Shanbao away with a snap of his fingers, and disappeared into the vast world. (End of this chapter)
