Conan: I'm really not the mastermind behind the scenes
Chapter 385: Past Cases
In a laboratory of the Metropolitan Police Department, four people sat on both sides of a long table. Aoyagi Akimitsu reorganized the documents, took out a few of them, stood up and placed them in the middle of the table.
Jinpei Matsuda glanced at the papers, then looked at Aoyagi Akimitsu who had sat down again.
"On April 13, three years ago, a bomb attack occurred near the Augusta State Capitol in Maine. A congressman was about to go home after the meeting. Shortly after he got into his car, it suddenly exploded."
"Since the explosion took place in the city center, many passers-by were involved. The accident caused a total of seven deaths, including a member of parliament, and 19 injuries, three of which were amputated."
Aoyagi Binguang clasped his hands on the table and slowly introduced the case.
"I was on vacation at the time and happened to be staying at the State Library next to the Capitol that day. When I heard the explosion, I rushed to the scene immediately. There was a purple flame burning on the street at the time. This color was very special and left a deep impression on me. Because it was suspected of being a terrorist attack, the case was quickly handed over to the FBI."
Matsuda Jinpei nodded thoughtfully: "Are you from the Counter-Terrorism Department?"
"No, I didn't transfer to the counter-terrorism department until last year. I was in the hostage rescue team when the explosion happened." Aoyagi added, "I didn't directly participate in the investigation. I was just called in to assist as a witness."
Robert Otto rubbed his chin and said, "I was in the South Florida branch at the time and heard about this case. Because an official had died, the case was transferred to the headquarters for investigation, but I don't remember what happened next. "
"Indeed, I didn't." Qing Liu Bingguang glanced at him, "It's involved in political scandals and political enemies hiring assassins to kill people. It would be embarrassing to disclose the truth."
The colleague who stayed to help made a "puff" sound, then covered his mouth and coughed.
He thought of the sanctimonious expressions of American officials when he watched the news not long ago, and felt a little disgusted, but also a little amused - many Americans have a high opinion of themselves and think that their country is the most powerful, and often look down on Japan.
But he endured it, after all, the two FBI agents were there to help.
Matsuda Jinpei said, "These have nothing to do with us. I just want to know the details about the bomb."
Aoyagi Binguang pulled out a sheet from the file. There were only two sentences printed on the back, leaving a large blank space. He picked up a pen and began to draw on it.
"There were surveillance cameras near the scene, and one of them happened to be pointed at the car, capturing the exact process of the explosion. The explosion did not occur under the car, but inside the car. The investigating detectives speculated that the explosion occurred in the driver sitting in front of the congressman."
The colleague turned his attention back to the case: "Did he carry a bomb?"
"It's a collar."
In just a few minutes, Aoyagi Binguang sketched a clear pattern on the white paper.
"The surveillance camera captured the driver suddenly leaving five minutes before the congressman got in the car and returning two minutes later. The technicians processed the surveillance footage and found that after he came back, there was a strange collar around his neck... This is it."
He turned the paper towards the two Japanese policemen opposite him and tapped it with the tip of his pen.
The appearance of the collar was very familiar to Jinpei Matsuda, with three glass tubes, one large and two small, fixed at the front end. He had just seen it an hour ago.
Under the picture, there was a signature-like "A·A".
Jinpei Matsuda looked at the pattern, then looked at another structural decomposition diagram on it, and frowned.
"If the explosion happened to the driver, the collar should have been blown up on the spot. Where did this decomposition diagram come from?" he asked.
"The one on the driver's body did blow up. This was during a follow-up investigation. The FBI found her lair in the suburbs. There was a homeless man tied up inside. He had the same necklace around his neck. When she was evacuating, she found someone who had mistakenly entered her territory, so she knocked him out and wanted to silence him."
Otto was puzzled: "Didn't you kill him directly?"
"The explosion made it easier to clean up her traces, and she couldn't take the chemicals with her, and they wouldn't pass security checks, so she just used them all up at once."
After explaining, Aoyagi Akimitsu returned to the topic: "I went there with him at the time and found that he was wearing the same necklace, so I helped him defuse the bomb."
Matsuda Jinpei finally heard the main topic and asked quickly, "How did you dismantle it?"
"He was tied up and kept shaking his head. The two liquids kept shaking in the tube, but there was no explosion. I guessed that they were relatively stable chemical reagents when not mixed."
Aoyagi continued, "So I found a micro drill and drilled a small hole in one of the bottles, and drained the liquid directly."
The three people present fell silent. Matsuda Jinpei, a former explosive ordnance disposal police officer, pressed his temples. After a while, he couldn't help but say, "Isn't this too bold?"
This is definitely not the normal way to deal with a liquid bomb.
If he had instigated someone else to do this, Matsuda Jinpei would definitely have questioned the brains of the person who came up with this method; but the other party tried it himself...
"Oh, that's what the others said. So after I returned, my boss found me and said that if there was a next time, he would make me quit the Hostage Rescue Team. I listened to him and submitted an application to be transferred to a regular agent that day."
Aoyagi Binguang didn't take it seriously. He added calmly, "It's a pity that the approval process is too slow. It's been more than a month and it hasn't been approved yet."
……
After the short meeting, Jinpei Matsuda successfully obtained the important structural diagram and a bomb disposal method that he dared not try on his friend.
He was looking through the structural diagram, while his colleague was holding another sheet of information filled with chemical formulas, his face full of confusion, "Who am I? Where am I? What the hell am I looking at?"
The same information has been sent to the scientific research institute, and now we just have to wait for the neutralizer to be produced, which shouldn't take too long.
After looking for a long time, the colleague next to him gave up. He leaned over the table and sighed heavily, and whispered gossip to Matsuda Jinpei:
"Matsuda, I used to think you didn't take people seriously because you repeatedly applied for transfers despite your superiors' disapproval. Now I finally see someone who is even more...than you."
Under Jinpei Matsuda's silent gaze, colleagues automatically muted certain offensive words.
Matsuda Jinpei retracted his gaze: "I am here to investigate a case."
People need reasons to do things, especially the elites. Many of their seemingly impulsive actions have different reasons behind them.
The two FBI agents also did not leave. It was raining too heavily outside, so they planned to wait until the rain stopped before leaving.
Otto sighed out the window, "It's raining here, I don't know how it's going in Shibuya."
"Shibuya?"
Aoyagi Binkou was standing next to him. He turned around when he heard this, with a hint of doubt in his tone.
"Akai and his team found something and went to Shibuya these past two days." Otto was not on guard. He lowered his voice and whispered, "That's why James asked me to come and help. I hope I can do the public security a favor."
Qing Liu Binguang understood: "Indeed."
Although permission has been obtained, we are still in another country. If we want to move freely and conduct investigations here, basic respect and good relations with local institutions are necessary.
"After all, it wasn't decades ago." He said, "No wonder Akai came to see me last night and borrowed my eagle."
"What do I want to borrow your eagle for?" Otto asked puzzledly.
Jinpei Matsuda closed the documents at the table and scratched his hair in annoyance, but he knew clearly that this kind of thing could not be rushed.
He threw the two pieces of paper back on the table, thinking of what he saw when he first came in, and asked his colleague: "By the way, there is something I almost forgot to ask. You looked so serious when I just came back, did something happen?"
My colleague's expression froze again.
Matsuda Jinpei noticed his reaction, and his heart skipped a beat. He had a bad feeling: "What on earth is going on?"
His movement was quite loud, and the two FBI agents at the window also looked over.
Aoyagi Binguang looked at the two people at the table. Suddenly, he seemed to notice something and turned to look out the window again.
In the rain, bursts of sirens were heard. (End of this chapter)
