Chapter 1069 Sam's Wrath
To Carl Reid's horror, the old man of death easily stepped over the salt circle, placed his hand on Carl's head, and Carl's eyes rolled back and he twitched. But for some reason, when the old man of death released him, he was gone.
Just as the man was filled with gratitude and asked Sam to go all the way and give him the last $20 in his pocket, he suddenly saw the gray old man's corpse again.
"Damn it, it's back again! Help me! Salt is no use! I'm going to die!" The man hurriedly grabbed Sam and hid behind him.
But Sam couldn't see anything.
Sam gripped Carl Reid's arm tightly, pressing him against the center of the salt circle. "Don't move! Trust me, you'll die if you leave here!"
He practically roared it out, veins bulging on his forehead.
He picked up the iron bar and swung it repeatedly in the direction Karl was looking. Evil spirits fear pig iron, and this was all he could do.
Carl Reid was still struggling and cursing, but he froze in terror when he felt the chilling death in the air, which seemed to solidify into a tangible form.
This is a tremor that transcends physical pain and originates from the depths of the soul.
His cloudy eyes widened, reflecting the image of the old man's corpse that had returned, his skin like old ashes and his eyes empty. The old man's face was indifferent, and he once again extended his skeletal hand and pressed it against his forehead.
"No! Help!" Karl's final cry was cut short, like a chicken being strangled.
This time, no miracle occurred; the old man of death did not stop halfway.
Sam watched helplessly as Carl Reid's body, beneath his clenched arms, rapidly lost its life in a manner reminiscent of a sudden illness.
The flesh and blood seemed to have been drained of all life in an instant, the skin looked sickly and tightly wrapped around the bones. What he was holding no longer seemed to be a human arm, which quickly lost its temperature and became cold.
The whole process was silent, except for Sam's heavy, terrified breathing.
There were no earth-shattering scenes, only this silent deprivation, which made it all the more evil and terrifying.
Sam abruptly released his grip, staggered back two steps, and felt a churning in his stomach.
He had only recently embarked on the path of demon hunting and was still an undergraduate student. The precise and ruthless process of plundering lives based on an evil contract filled him with a chilling and infuriating feeling.
"Fake!"
He let out a low growl and slammed his fist into the cold hood of the car next to him, his knuckles instantly turning red and swollen.
Sam looked around and, seeing that no one had noticed him, decided to leave Carl's body behind to avoid unnecessary trouble. He quickly left, still chilled and furious, and hurried back to the tent area.
however,
The tent where Su An was expected to be holding a ceremony was unusually quiet.
He lifted the curtain, and the room was empty, with only the lingering smell of herbs and a faint, almost imperceptible stench of decay, which came from the patients who had suffered greatly from their illnesses.
Just as he was wondering, he saw Leila and Dean sitting by the river not far away, talking in hushed tones.
The girl's face was still pale, but the deathly aura between her brows had dissipated, replaced by the weakness of someone recovering from a serious illness and a complex sense of gratitude as she looked at Dean. Dean's expression, however, was somewhat heavy and unnatural, as if he didn't know how to face her.
Wu Heng leaned against a withered tree, looking down at the faint light of his phone screen, as if everything around him was irrelevant.
"What are these three doing? Aren't they supposed to split up and stop Su An from using dark magic to harm people?" Sam asked, full of doubt.
To Sam's even greater surprise, Mrs. Luke was emerging from a dilapidated car carrying several pizza boxes and a bag of fruit.
Upon seeing Sam, her face immediately lit up with an unprecedented, vibrant, and grateful smile: "Mr. Sam, you're back! That's wonderful! I bought some food; this is for the pastor and Mrs. Suan, and these are for you."
"Thank you so much! Leila...she's really all better!" She stammered, her excitement overflowing, completely oblivious to Sam's grim expression.
She set aside some food and happily jogged towards the pastor's residence.
Sam's pent-up anger, fueled by Carl Reid's death, suddenly found an outlet.
He strode up to Dean, ignoring Leila beside him, and roared in a suppressed voice, "Dean, what the hell is going on?!"
“That Carl Reid just turned into a corpse right in front of me, and you’re all here,” he pointed to Leila, who seemed unharmed, and then to the direction Mrs. Luke had left, “A party?!”
Dean was taken aback by his brother's anger, and a hint of guilt and struggle flashed across his face.
He gestured for Leila to go back and rest, then took a deep breath, pulled Sam aside, and, in a low voice, explained with difficulty what had just happened.
This includes the choices Wu Heng made, as well as his own breakdown and eventual acquiescence.
"So, you agreed?"
"Traded that man's life for this girl's?" Sam's eyes widened, his voice trembling. "Dean, we're hunters! We stop this kind of thing! We're not... not accomplices!"
Sam's pent-up anger finally erupted.
"What can I do, Sam?" Dean also became agitated, his heart filled with confusion, but he seemed to have no regrets. His voice was hoarse. "You want me to watch Leila die, watch Mrs. Luke break down? That scumbag only had a few hours left to live, and he..."
"This isn't a matter of time!" Sam interrupted him, waving his hand forcefully. "This is a matter of principle, a bottom line!"
“Su An is using dark magic to kill people. Do you even know what murder is? And we’re condoning or even assisting her. Today it’s a scumbag who’s definitely going to die, but what about tomorrow? What if the next target is just someone she ‘thinks’ is guilty? Who gave her this power, and what right do we have to make choices for her?!”
The brothers' argument attracted the attention of Wu Heng, who was not far away, but he only glanced at it briefly before turning his attention back to his phone. The brothers' dispute was less important to him than the information on the screen.
However, Wu Heng's senses had already spread out like a spider web, crossing the tent area and landing under a crooked tree on the other side of the road in the distance.
There stood a man dressed in overalls, who looked like an ordinary homeless person.
But what Wu Heng saw was something attached to the man's body—a demon reeking of sulfur, its eyes filled with pitch black. It was observing with keen interest everything happening in the tent area, especially Leila, whose aura was subtly shifting after her life transfer, and the Winchester brothers arguing.
