Chapter 1171 Separation
Castio tilted his head, looking at the white porcelain with a puzzled expression: "Its shape and function are not intuitive. Why would humans design containers for cleaning water and excrement to be so similar?"
"This..." Dean was speechless. "...because that's how it's designed. Listen, this is the flush button. Remember to press it when you're done."
“Castio, look at the traffic lights! The green arrow indicates that you can go. You were almost hit by a truck!” Sam, his heart pounding, pulled the angel, who was standing in the middle of the road and had no reaction to the speeding vehicles, back to the sidewalk.
Castio watched the endless stream of vehicles and the flashing traffic lights, seemingly trying to understand the rules:
"These metallic creations move according to simple rules of light signals, but their speed and destructive power to the flesh do not match these simple rules, making them inefficient and dangerous."
Sam sighed, "These are the traffic rules, for safety! Please follow them!"
“You need to take off your clothes when you take a shower, Castio. This is the only change of clothes I have left. Here you go!” Dean felt a headache coming on as he watched Castio, who was fully dressed, walk straight into the bathroom and into the tub to take a bath.
He and Sam didn't bring many clothes with them when they went out.
“Human cleaning methods are too cumbersome and wasteful of water; Heaven has no such need,” Castio stated, but still began clumsily trying to unbutton his trench coat.
Similar scenes keep playing out.
The two brothers had to patiently explain the basic rules and common sense of human society to Castio, as if they were teaching an alien from another world.
They really wouldn't have had this patience if this guy hadn't saved their father, John.
Castio learns very quickly, but his perspective is always tinged with an inhuman, condescending scrutiny, which makes the teaching process feel strange.
In the apartment, on one side is John, who is gradually recovering, and the Winchester brothers, who are trying to adapt to reality; on the other side is Wu Heng, who is mysterious and unpredictable and researches dangerous forces; and on the other side is the angel Castio, who is out of place with his surroundings and is struggling to learn how to be 'human'.
These distinct forces have temporarily converged in this small space, maintaining a strange balance.
Two days later.
The apartment was filled with a peculiar smell, a mixture of disinfectant, old books, and a faint, almost imperceptible, holy scent.
John Winchester leaned against the headboard, his face still pale from recovering from a serious illness, but his eyes had regained the sharp and determined light characteristic of a Witcher, like that of a hawk.
Dean handed him a glass of warm water, while Sam sat on a chair beside him. Both of them stared intently at their father, as if afraid he would disappear again in the blink of an eye.
John took a sip of water, his throat bobbing as if he were organizing his thoughts.
He raised his eyes, his gaze sweeping over his two sons' young faces, which were already etched with stories.
“Dean, Sam.” His voice was still a little hoarse, but his tone left no room for argument. “I’m leaving.”
"Go? Where to?" Dean immediately sat up straight. "Daddy, you just woke up! You need to rest!"
"Rest?" John's lips curled into a bitter and twisted smile, his eyes instantly surging with the pain and anxiety of those twenty years forcibly awakened from his hellish memories.
“My child, in my perception, I have been tormented in that damned place for twenty years, enduring unimaginable pain every single day and every single second of those twenty years!”
I'm not saying this out of fear.
His voice suddenly rose, trembling slightly, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white. "But I'm worried that what I'm enduring is nothing compared to what Mary is going through!" He abruptly looked out the window, his gaze seemingly piercing through the city's concrete jungle, reaching into some dark place. "I can't imagine what she's going through right now. Every minute of delay could mean another minute of torment for her!"
Sam tried to comfort him: "Dad, we understand how you feel, but we can do it together."
“No!” John interrupted him, his gaze returning to his two sons with a resolute air. “Let’s split up.”
“You have all gone your own way, but one day, we will still need to walk together.”
"Efficiency is the most important thing right now. I'll continue with my line of work, you guys proceed with your plans, and we'll stay in touch."
"The 'gift' that Hell left me with is not just pain, but also some fragmented information about Lilith, about the seals, and about the places where they might imprison important souls. I need to verify them."
“Before that, I will go back to the old house again.”
He struggled to get out of bed; his body was still swaying slightly, but his spine was straight.
He picked up the slightly worn leather jacket draped over the back of the chair, stained with indelible bloodstains and dust, and slowly put it on. This action seemed to give him some kind of power.
"Find her and bring her home."
“This is something we, father and son, must accomplish.” He patted Dean and Sam on the shoulder, his touch firm. “Protect each other. I can’t afford to lose either of you.”
There were no more farewells, no lingering sentimentality.
John Winchester, a man whose soul had been scorched by hell yet remained resilient, like a soldier still wounded but forced to return to the battlefield, resolutely opened the apartment door and disappeared into the dim light of the corridor.
Dean and Sam stood there, looking in the direction their father had disappeared, their hearts filled with complex and indescribable emotions.
Dean clenched his fist.
He wasn't strong enough; otherwise, he would have been able to stop all of this.
This is the realization he has gained from experiencing the convenience of his angelic power in fighting demons.
The reason why the yellow-eyed demon could control the fate of their family so much was not only because the demon was evil, but also because the demon was extremely powerful.
At this moment, the Wen family's two demons, who had been fighting against evil spirits, felt a longing for 'more' power for the first time.
Only by possessing the power to crush this evil can their family be happily reunited.
So-called holiness is unreliable. God has no regard for humanity, so how can He have any mercy? Humans can only rely on themselves!
The two exchanged a glance until John's figure had completely disappeared from sight.
There was concern for his father's health and anxiety about his actions alone, but more than anything, there was a sense of urgency ignited by the heavy twenty years in his words and the unknown fate of his mother.
The oppressive atmosphere did not dissipate after the father left.
Dean scratched his head in frustration, glancing at Castio, who stood quietly in the corner, seemingly blending into the wall. (End of Chapter)
