Chapter 1279 Recruitment
"How much is left?" Wu Heng asked.
Ryan closed his eyes and sensed it for a moment: "Two thousand seven hundred years. I must say, you are indeed a special guest. Your foundation is quite good."
"Full pressure," Wu Heng said.
The room fell silent for a moment.
"Two thousand seven hundred years, decided in one game?" Ryan confirmed.
"Correct."
Ryan licked his lips.
Even after living for hundreds of years, such a high stakes are rare. But he was confident that his abilities made him virtually invincible.
"Deal the cards."
Soon the game came to an end, and the community cards were the 3 of hearts, the 6 of spades, the 9 of diamonds, the Jack of clubs, and the King of hearts, which looked scattered and disorganized.
Wu Heng had a terrible hand of 2 of diamonds and 7 of hearts; Ryan, on the other hand, had the King of spades and the King of clubs, plus the community card King of hearts to make a set of three Kings, giving him a sure chance of winning.
Wu Heng didn't look at his hand at all; he simply waited calmly for the cards to be revealed.
"Let's reveal the cards." Ryan smiled broadly, waiting to have his two thousand seven hundred years of lifespan taken away.
Wu Heng first revealed the 2 of diamonds and the 7 of hearts. Ryan smiled confidently and said, "Looks like your luck isn't so good either."
He then revealed three Kings.
"Don't rush." Wu Heng tapped the table lightly with his fingertips. "We agreed on the right to complete the hand before the bet. The community cards are missing an 8. My 7 of hearts can be used to upgrade to a 'straight connecting card'. Pair it with 3, 6, 9, J, K to make a 3 to K straight."
Ryan's expression changed drastically, but he couldn't refute it.
This was a rule trap that Wu Heng had laid with technical rhetoric, calculating that he would overlook details due to the three Ks, and then reverse the situation by controlling the field and interpreting the rules.
"you win."
Ryan sighed deeply.
He waved his hand, and countless chips of light and shadow appeared in the void, representing all the lifespan he had stored. He began to count them, and even extracted a portion of his original lifespan to fill the gap.
Finally, a pile of chips, shimmering with a faint light, was pushed in front of Wu Heng, totaling five thousand four hundred years.
Sam's mouth was dry.
Five thousand four hundred years—this number was beyond his comprehension, almost equivalent to 20 years of American history.
“Now,” Wu Heng pointed to the chips on the table, “we’ll give Dean back his fifty years, and then give Bobby an extra fifty years. He’s supported the guild for so long, he deserves some benefits.”
Ryan did as instructed.
Two orbs of light flew out of his hand and flew through the window toward the hospital.
"What about the rest?" Ryan asked, his voice hoarse as he looked at the remaining 5,220 years of lifespan chips on the table.
Wu Heng reached out and pushed all the chips back to Ryan.
This action stunned everyone, including Evelyn.
“This is the first gift,” Wu Heng said. “I have no interest in plundering lifespan.”
Ryan's eyes widened: "What do you mean?"
"Don't rush, there's a second one." Wu Heng turned to Sam, "The stuff."
Sam immediately took the bottle of Reversal Spell potion out of his bag and placed it on the table.
Ryan's expression changed instantly.
"A Reversal Spell?! How did you learn that?" His gaze suddenly turned to Evelyn in disbelief: "You taught him?!"
Evelyn stood up and walked to the table.
She looked at Ryan with sadness, relief, and love in her eyes.
“In these three hundred years, how many lives have you stolen to keep me alive?” she said softly. “I’m tired, Ryan, I’m really tired; watching you sit here time and time again, trading other people’s time for mine. Every minute, I feel like I’m rotting.” She sat down and looked directly into Ryan’s eyes: “I’m going to bet with you, with all the time I have left, that you will stop.”
Ryan was stunned.
Pop, pop, pop.
applause.
Wu Heng applauded the scene before him, which aroused the confusion of the crowd.
A faint smile played on his lips: "This is my second gift to you, of course, not this potion."
He stood up and walked to Evelyn's side: "I'm just telling you who gave me the Rebellion Curse, but the gift I really wanted to give is..."
His voice suddenly turned cold:
"the truth."
Before he finished speaking, Wu Heng made his move!
Instead of attacking Ryan, he suddenly reached out and grabbed Evelyn's neck.
On that hand was the famous balancing glove, and a grayish-white light burst forth instantly!
"What are you doing?!" Ryan roared, trying to stop him, but an invisible force field pressed him firmly into the chair. It was Wu Heng's other hand that released the balance restraint.
Evelyn had no time to resist before she lost the ability to fight back and closed her eyes.
The light from the gloves seeped into her body.
A few seconds later, Wu Heng withdrew his hand, revealing a white energy body in his palm that was constantly writhing and emitting strange fluctuations.
“A parasitic blessing or curse,” Wu Heng said coldly, looking at the thing. “It is implanted into the soul, slowly devouring the host’s life force, creating the illusion that it needs to constantly replenish its lifespan.”
“Duration: Three hundred years, which is exactly the point at which you begin to plunder lifespan, Ryan.”
Ryan stood frozen in place, his face drained of color.
Evelyn suddenly opened her eyes, tears streaming down her face: "I'm sorry, I found out a long time ago, but I couldn't say it. I had to remain devout, or they would imprison you."
"Who is it?" Ryan's voice trembled.
Wu Heng crushed the ball of light, which dissipated into specks of light that merged into the surrounding lamplight.
He looked out the window at the gradually stopping rain and asked in a strange tone, "You believe that?"
Wu Heng glanced curiously at Evelyn and Ryan, then noticed that Sam, standing to the side, also seemed to believe it.
I couldn't help but be speechless.
If this woman really wanted to say it, there would probably be countless ways to say it over the past three hundred years.
She was just wavering inside, her thoughts were swirling, but she didn't want to say it out loud.
Perhaps it was fate that she was initially drawn to Ryan's talent, and then genuinely fell in love with him.
But she knew in her heart that if she revealed the truth, she would lose everything.
That's why I chose to hide it.
Even the reason she told Sam about the 'Reversal Curse' this time was because she was instructed by Heaven.
If Dean, as Michael's vessel, were to actually die of old age, it would be a joke.
This is something that Heaven will not allow.
So they intervened and got Evelyn to help Sam. This is also why, in the original storyline, for three hundred years, this woman turned a blind eye to so many people gambling with the Card Traveler.
When it came to Sam and Dean's turn, she suddenly felt she had lived enough and didn't want Ryan to continue gambling with others' lifespans.
Even if she herself didn't want to live anymore, Ryan himself also needed a lifespan.
Why shouldn't she want Ryan to gamble, and instead give Sam the 'Reversal Curse' to break Ryan's method of absorbing lifespan?
In the story, Dean's lifespan automatically returned to normal after Ryan's methods were undone by the 'Reversal Curse'. (End of Chapter)
