Chapter 1301 Infiltration
"Why Adam?" Dean frowned. "Just because he has Winchester blood?"
“The detection of the Apocalypse Vessels is in Raphael’s hands.” Castio looked at Adam with a complicated expression. “According to them, the Winchester bloodline is highly compatible with the vessels of high-ranking angels, which is true, but more importantly… Heaven is now divided, and Raphael wants to use Adam as a bargaining chip to win over the neutral angel faction that is still observing.”
"Chips?"
“Yes, after all, a controllable and highly adaptable container means victory in the war of apocalypse, and the human world is a huge pie.” Castio lowered his voice, “The civil war in Heaven is bound to break out sooner or later, and Raphael is making preparations in advance.”
The room was quiet.
"Damn it," Dean finally said.
Castio continued, "And it gets worse. The Raphael faction, seeing Eve's power expanding too quickly, has given up watching and sent a purification force, which will arrive in Grantzpass in three days."
"The Purification Force?" Sam asked.
“The angels’ cleansing methods,” Castio said gravely. “They bombard the entire city with massive holy light, purifying everything in it—monsters, survivors, everything—into ashes. They don’t distinguish between friend and foe.”
"Without your balancing stance to protect it, it's impossible to stay there."
Dean slammed his fist on the table.
"These birdmen!"
“We must rescue everyone we can before that happens.” Sam looked at the map. “But Eve’s lair is too well-defended; the previous three rescue attempts all failed.”
“Then let’s just attack the lair,” Dean said. “Use weapons forged from phoenix ash to kill Eve, and with the monsters leaderless, the rescue will be much easier.”
“Too risky.” Castio shook his head. “Eve’s current power is so overwhelming that even I feel it’s too much for me. A direct confrontation would have a very low chance of success.”
"What should we do then? Wait for the angels to come and blow everyone up?"
Adam, who had been silent all along, suddenly spoke up: "Perhaps... we can use a feint to the east while attacking the west."
The three of them looked at him.
Adam stood up, walked to the map, and pointed to the location of the abandoned chemical plant.
"This is Eve's main lair, the most powerful and best-defended, but according to the scan of the internet addiction, there are more than a dozen secondary energy nodes in the city, which may be her secondary lairs for storing raw materials or hatching new monsters."
He moved his finger and tapped on several other marks.
“If we attack these secondary nests simultaneously and create chaos, Eve’s attention will be diverted. At that point, the main squad will have a much better chance of infiltrating the main nest.”
Sam looked at him, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
"Have you studied tactics?"
“I’ve taught history, and I’ve also taught military history,” Adam said. “And… I’ve been reading the guild’s battle reports these past few days.”
Dean and Sam exchanged a glance, and Dean nodded.
“Let’s do it this way, there’s no better way anyway,” Dean said. “Sam, you contact Bobby and have him organize a team to attack the secondary hive simultaneously, while we’ll lead the team to the main hive.”
“I’ll go too,” Adam said.
“No way,” Dean refused. “You’re untrained; you’d be sending yourself to your death.”
“But I can help,” Adam insisted. “I discovered the pattern of the trap in the car that time. I’m very detail-oriented, and maybe I can spot what you’ve overlooked.”
Castio looked at Adam, then at Dean.
"His is indeed somewhat...special, and perhaps useful."
Dean stared at Adam for a long time, then finally muttered a complaint before turning to check his weapons: "Whatever, but stick close, or don't blame me if you die."
An abandoned chemical plant on the outskirts of Granzpass. This plant, once a fertilizer production facility, had been abandoned for over a decade, its buildings rusted and pipes broken, but it has now been transformed.
The factory's exterior walls were covered with dark red fleshy membranes, resembling the viscera of some giant creature turned inside out. The membranes pulsated rhythmically, and their surface was covered with large blood vessels that transported nutrient solutions.
Dozens of tentacle-like fleshy pillars extended from the top of the factory building, their tips splitting open like flowers, constantly spewing out a mist of spores with a sweet, fishy smell. The mist enveloped the entire factory area, reducing visibility to no more than five meters.
Dean, Sam, Castio, and Adam, along with 30 Witcher, lay prone on the high pile of ruins, observing through binoculars.
“Going straight in is suicide,” Sam said in a low voice. “Those spore mists may be hallucinogenic or corrosive.”
"Are there other entrances?" Dean asked.
Adam pointed to the side of the factory area, where there was a row of broken drainage pipes, large enough for a person to crawl into: "There, the pipes lead directly to the underground of the factory building. According to the architectural drawings, it should be the location of the old treatment pool."
"How do you know the architectural blueprints?" Dean asked, looking at him.
"I had the internet addiction specialist retrieve it before I came," Adam said. "I think it will come in handy."
Dean raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything.
The group went around to the side and crawled into the drainage pipe.
Inside, it was damp and dark, covered with moss and fungi, and filled with a putrid smell. After climbing for about fifty meters, a light appeared ahead. It was not natural light, but a dark red bioluminescence emanating from the flesh membrane.
At the end of the pipe was a huge underground space.
This place was originally a sewage treatment pond, but it has now been transformed into a nesting site.
The pool contained a thick, semi-transparent nutrient solution, on which hundreds of fleshy cocoons, each the size of an adult, floated. Their surfaces were covered with blood vessels, which swelled and contracted slightly with each pulse.
Some of the fleshy cocoons were transparent, revealing the monstrous embryos curled up inside. Some of them were humanoid but had multiple limbs, while others were completely asymmetrical and twisted.
Dozens of guardian hybrids patrolled around the pool.
These guards were clearly stronger, covered in bone plates, and their arms had evolved into bladed or hammer-like limbs.
"First, find Eve's location," Dean said in a low voice.
Castio closed his eyes, sensing the flow of energy. A few seconds later, he pointed to the top of the pool, where there was an iron platform that was originally used for maintenance but was now covered by a fleshy membrane. On top of it was a larger 'throne' woven from living monsters.
Eve is on top of it, with her eyes closed, seemingly asleep or meditating.
"Make a move?" Sam looked at Dean.
Dean nodded, took out three specially made grenades from his waist pouch, which contained concentrated Phoenix Ash powder. He pulled the pin, counted to three, and threw them forcefully into the pool.
The grenade arced through the air.
Just as she was about to fall into the pool, Eve opened her eyes.
She didn't even raise her hand; with just a glance, three grenades froze in mid-air and then flew back in the opposite direction, even faster!
"spread!"
"Castio said hastily, while simultaneously unfolding his tattered wings of light to shield the four people.
The grenade exploded, creating a shockwave. Dark red energy swept across the entire underground space, causing large swathes of flesh to wither. The guarding monster screamed in agony, its body surface scorched with black marks.
Eve was unharmed. She stood up and locked her gaze on the four of them.
“Food,” she said, her voice ringing directly in their minds.
The next moment, all the guarding monsters turned and pounced simultaneously, forming a tactical encirclement: the blade-limbed monsters in front, the hammer-wielding monsters behind, and several ranged monsters spewing acid. (End of Chapter)
