Chapter 1302 Burning Down the Nest

Dean swung his Demon Hunter Blade, striking the bone plate of the Blade-Limbed Monster. This time, it didn't bounce off; the blade sliced into the bone plate like cutting hot butter.

The monster screamed and retreated.

Sam's shotgun roared, each coated bullet exploding a bowl-sized cleansing wound on the monster.

Castio conjured angel blades in his hands, but the blades' light dimmed noticeably under Eve's suppression. He gritted his teeth and stood in front, blocking some of the attacks for Dean and Sam.

Adam had no weapon, but he followed closely behind Castio, his eyes scanning the surroundings rapidly. Suddenly, he pointed to the fleshy membrane wall on one side of the pool: "There are energy nodes flashing there!"

Sam looked in the direction he was pointing and saw an area on the fleshy membrane wall that was pulsating faster than the rest, with a dark red light flashing across its surface.

"It might be a control node!" Sam shouted. "Take it down!"

Dean slashed down a monster and turned to charge at the wall, but more monsters blocked his way, making it difficult for him to get through.

“Cassie!” Dean roared.

Castio clasped his hands together, and a short but powerful burst of angelic power erupted, temporarily repelling the surrounding monsters and clearing a path.

Dean rushed forward, thrusting the Demon Hunter Blade into the pulsating node with all his might.

The blade of the dagger sank into the flesh with a muffled thud.

Dark red energy gushed out from the wound, and the flesh membrane of the entire underground space convulsed violently at the same time. The nutrient solution in the pool began to boil, and the flesh cocoons burst open one by one, with the embryos inside quickly rotting.

Eve on the platform swayed slightly, then looked down at Dean, her eyes flashing with anger for the first time.

She raised her hand to aim at Dean, but Sam's shotgun fired first.

Three coated bullets were fired at Eve in a triangular formation. She had to distract herself by waving her hand to deflect the bullets. The bullets exploded in mid-air, and the purifying energy splashed onto her hands, leaving a few shallow scorch marks.

She looked at Sam, her pupils contracting; the bullet had actually managed to injure her.

Just then, a series of explosions erupted around the factory area. Bobby had begun his attack on the secondary hives, with more than a dozen hives being attacked simultaneously. Eve sensed the pain and chaos of her offspring through their mental link.

She got distracted.

"Now!" Castio seized the opportunity, pressed his hands to the ground, and forcibly opened a small portal that led directly to the emergency exit of the street.

"Go!" Dean grabbed Adam, who was still observing, and threw him into the portal, with Sam and Castio following closely behind.

The four rushed out of the portal and landed on the street outside the chemical plant.

Eve's angry scream came from the factory behind them, and the entire building shook.

"boarding!"

Dean rushed toward the car hidden behind the rubble.

As soon as they got on the vehicle, all the fleshy pillars on the factory roof exploded, and Eve's figure rushed out, hovering in mid-air with her arms outstretched. Dark red energy spread out from her, and wherever she passed, all the hybrid monsters on the street seemed to be injected with stimulants, rushing towards her madly.

Dean slammed on the gas, the car smashed through the two monsters, and sped onto the main road.

Eve didn't chase after them in the rearview mirror, but she stood in the air, looking in the direction the car had fled, a cold smile on her lips.

“She did it on purpose,” Castio suddenly said. “She let us go.”

"Why?" Sam turned around and looked.

“I don’t know,” Castio said, his face grim. “But there must be a reason.”

The car sped out of the city's edge and onto the highway. In the distance, the city of Granzpass looked like a burning nest in the night, its dark red, fleshy glow illuminating half the sky.

Unseen by them, Eve landed back on the factory platform. Looking at the destroyed nest in the pool, her face held no anger, but rather a hint of amusement. "Phoenix Ashes..." she murmured, "The Winchester family's little bugs have found something interesting."

Then he reached out and picked up a fragment of flesh membrane burned by the purifying energy from the ground. The fragment still retained the aura of phoenix ash.

“That’s fine.” She smiled. “When you come back with more ashes… I need that.”

She turned and looked towards the western mountains.

“Crowley…after I’ve dealt with these stubborn things, it’ll be your turn.”

At the same time, on the outskirts of Grantspass.

Bobby stood beside the command vehicle, watching the last group of survivors emerge from the underground tunnel. At the other end of the tunnel was the guild's evacuation convoy, which would take them to a temporary shelter 500 kilometers away.

"How many men are left?" Bobby asked his deputy.

“One hundred and twenty-seven civilians, and forty-three demon hunters who are still able to move.” The second-in-command’s voice was hoarse.

In the previous three rescue operations, more than two hundred witchers died in battle, and most of their bodies could not be brought back.

"Where is the rearguard team?"

"Establish a defensive line in Zone B3 as planned, and delay it for as long as possible."

Bobby nodded and climbed into the command vehicle: "We're retreating too."

The convoy started moving and left the city along the planned route. Bobby took one last look in the rearview mirror. The whole city was burning, and the howls of monsters and the occasional explosions could be heard on the wind.

The rearguard team of twenty people crouched on the second floor of the abandoned supermarket. The leader was a female witcher named Ray, thirty-two years old, whose left arm was broken in the previous battle and was immobilized with a splint.

"Listen carefully," Ray said into the communicator. "Our mission is to hold off these monsters and buy at least twenty minutes for the civilians to evacuate. We don't need to kill any enemies, just stay alive and buy time. Understand?"

"Understood," eleven voices replied.

The first wave of pursuers arrived five minutes later; it turned out to be the angels' advance team.

No, it was ten lower-ranking angels who were transformed into hybrids by Eve, but they still retained some angelic characteristics. Their wings were incomplete, but they could fly at low altitudes and carried weapons.

"Fire!" Lei ordered.

Bullets and exorcism rounds clashed in the air. The angel hybrids were resistant to demonic magic, but not so immune to balanced weapons. Two were hit and fell, but the others charged forward despite the fire.

Ray swung his machete with his uninjured right hand, severing the wing of one of the hybrids, while another team member blasted the head off another with a shotgun.

Three minutes later, the first Witcher died, pierced through the chest; five minutes later, the second...

Lei Zheng blew open the head of a hybrid, causing it to fall to the ground. Three figures rushed in through the door; it was Dean and his group.

"Let's go!" Dean pulled Lei up.

"What are you doing—?"

"Cassie senses a large group of monsters approaching," Sam said while firing his gun. "Stop talking nonsense, let's go!"

The remaining Witcher team members followed them out of the supermarket and rushed toward the car parked on the street corner, with the monster horde in hot pursuit.

The car sped off, smashing through the monsters blocking its path and onto the highway. In the rearview mirror, a huge explosion came from the direction of the supermarket. Before leaving, Lei had planted a remote-controlled bomb, burying the bodies of his pursuers and teammates along with him.

No one spoke in the car. Lei watched the darkness rushing past the window, tears streaming silently down his face.

She took twenty people in with her, and fourteen came out. Among the six who died was her younger brother. (End of Chapter)
