Chapter 1362 Separation and Stationing

The news exploded like a bomb in the crowd, and all seventy-four witchers gathered around, their eyes gleaming with hope.

Dean had Benny repeat the information about the passage.

Then he asked the crowd, "Do you want to leave?"

No one answered immediately.

Hope is so precious that people dare not touch it easily.

“The passage is only for human passage,” Benny added.

“Supernatural beings won’t work, nor will souls or angels, so,” he looked at Castio, “you can’t get through, and so can you,” then looked at another witcher with psychic powers who was reduced to a soul after an attack, “you can’t get through either, but the others…theoretically they can.”

Castio paused for a few seconds, then said, "I'll stay, but you should leave."

“No.” Dean shook his head. “Let the other witchers go back and bring back the message first. The three of us can either go together or stay here to find another way.”

“There is no other way,” Benny sighed. “I’ve been here for three years and tried everything. This is the only way out.”

The debate lasted a long time.

Ultimately, they decided to continue searching for other missing persons, gather more people, and then let everyone choose for themselves.

The next day, they encountered Liz's team at the edge of the 'Screaming Abyss'.

Including those rescued earlier, the total number reached 106, almost all the Witcher who were sucked in. Apart from the 17 confirmed dead, all the rest have been found.

That evening, a collective meeting was held inside a relatively safe, massive skeleton.

Dean stood on the high ground, looking down at the tired but determined faces below.

Among these people were his comrades-in-arms whom he had known for many years, new recruits who had just joined the guild, sorcerers skilled in magic, and snipers proficient in firearms.

Now they are all covered in wounds, their eyes filled with a mixture of hope and fear.

“That’s the situation.” Dean’s voice echoed in the skeletal space. “The passage will open in a day. It’s located in the Shattered Temple and can only be used by humans. Supernatural beings cannot pass through. After passing through, we will return to the human world, but the location is uncertain. It could be anywhere on Earth.”

He paused.

"The choice is now in each of your hands."

"Those who want to leave can do so in a day, but there is another option: stay!"

“Because there are so many Witchers who have fallen into Purgatory this time, we have only found a small portion of you. There are still many more Witchers who are lost in Purgatory. We need to find them and give them a signal and their location.”

"Only by leaving a base here can we give more witchers hope. We believe that as long as someone goes back, the guild leader will find a way to locate us and save us."

“If we all go back, we will extinguish the hope of many more comrades. But the risks of staying here are also unknown. We might all be sacrificed. But I will take the lead and stay here.”

"There are no cowards among witchers, but due to different family and personal circumstances, they will have different concerns and reasons. So, regardless of whether you want to go out or stay, and whatever the reason, we respect your personal opinion."

He looked at Castio, and at the few witchers who had demon or angel blood in their veins.

"For those who remain, we will set up a temporary camp, gather supplies, and establish rules for survival. As long as I live and as long as the Witcher Guild exists, we will not abandon you. I swear in the name of Winchester."

There was silence below.

Then the first person to raise their hand was a young woman with tears on her face: "I...I want to leave. I have two children at home, one is four years old and the other is two years old. They can't be without their mother."

The second person raised their hand: "I want to leave too. My wife was just diagnosed with cancer, and I need to go back to take care of her." The third, the fourth...

In the end, nine people raised their hands.

They all had reasons to go back: young children, seriously ill family members, or simply that they had reached their psychological limit.

The other 97 people chose to stay.

Including Dean, Sam, and Castio.

The young woman cried as she spoke to the other witchers, "I'm sorry... I wasn't cowardly, I just..."

“No need to explain.” An old witcher patted her on the shoulder. “We all understand. When you go back, look at the sun outside for us. Live well for us.”

The atmosphere is heavy and tragic.

Dean took a deep breath and spoke again.

"Those who leave, you have a more important task," he said in a deep voice. "Upon returning to the human world, immediately contact the guild, report the situation here, tell Lor, tell everyone, we are still fighting, we still need support, and those who chose to stay..."

He looked at the ninety-seven faces.

"You are the pride of the Demon Hunters. Every battle you fight here, every monster you kill will count towards the guild's points. In my capacity as the guild's chief training instructor, I declare: as long as you hold on, as long as you survive, once you get out, each and every one of you will become the guild's most elite force. Resources, equipment, promotion opportunities—all the best will be given to you first."

He clenched his fists.

"Because everything we experience here is more brutal than any training, and every second we spend here proves that—Witchers never give up!"

After a brief silence, applause broke out.

First they were scattered, then they came together.

Ninety-seven witchers, the flames in their ninety-seven eyes were rekindled. They may be afraid, they may be tired, but none of them backed down.

Benny stood in the corner, watching it all.

As a vampire, he should have laughed at this kind of emotional manipulation by humans. But for some reason, he couldn't laugh.

He simply checked his gun silently to make sure he had enough bullets to escort the nine men safely to the passage.

And also to make sure that I can... live a little longer in this purgatory.

The remaining witchers did not show any mockery or contempt towards those who left. To become a witcher, one must have been threatened by evil spirits, or one's family must have been threatened by evil spirits. This was a choice made in order to survive and protect one's family.

They understand this helplessness better than many others.

As time passed, the crack that Benny had mentioned gradually appeared out of thin air amidst a burst of blood and light, like a ripped wound.

Nine witchers, carrying news of the remaining survivors, entered and disappeared.

The remaining witchers set up camp on the spot.

They had already done the same thing in Hell, so they were no strangers to this system. Compared to the situation back then, their current equipment and combat power could only be described as rudimentary and weak.

However, before the establishment of guilds, witchers were able to fight against various evil spirits with just ordinary human bodies.

They have already endured numerous hardships, and at least they have not yet fallen into a hopeless situation where they are powerless to resist. (End of Chapter)
