Chapter 959 The Gold Can Company is Gone
Seeing Linana recover, Kevin and Jeff breathed a sigh of relief.
Jeff immediately regretted it.
Even he himself didn't know why he felt relieved.
Kevin was the one who was injured, and if the girl needed more flesh and blood, they would continue to extract it from Kevin's body.
If Kevin were dead, wouldn't that be the result he wanted? Why would he feel relieved for Kevin?
"Looks like I've really gone mad!" Jeff suddenly realized.
Neither of them dared to say anything more. The priest waved to the girl's soul, and the soul gradually closed its eyes, finally drifting slowly towards its restored body.
Under the tense gaze of the two men, the girl's body, which had been rotting but was now alive, gradually opened her eyes.
The moment Lina opened her eyes, they seemed to sting from the sunlight, and she was hesitant to open them fully, only daring to squint into a slit and shield her eyes from the light with her hand.
After another ten seconds or so, her vision gradually returned, and the first thing she looked at was Priest Ron.
"Pastor, I feel all the pain in my body has disappeared, and I feel a sense of ease I've never felt before."
"Thank you for saving me. That feeling was terrifying. It was like countless insects crawling all over my body. I could even feel them devouring my brain, but I couldn't scratch it."
"That feeling was almost like being tortured."
“I once read in a book about a form of torture from the Middle Ages that could tickle someone to death, but I felt that what I experienced was far more terrifying than that punishment.”
"Most importantly, I felt like I was already dead, so I couldn't die again. I could only endure that terrifying pain. I couldn't even relieve my emotions by shouting or laughing. That feeling was just too terrifying! It was too horrible!"
Lina couldn't help but shudder as she spoke; she was now even somewhat hesitant to respond to the terror.
As for how I felt at the time, I dare not recall even a fraction of it.
"It's all in the past, child. You have been reborn. Don't worry, don't be afraid."
Ron reached out and patted her head. The solid touch made her feel the reality of the situation, and she immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
Ron reached out and helped the girl up.
“Just think of what happened before as a nightmare. What you need to do now is go home. Your parents must miss you terribly; they’ve been looking for you!” Ron said.
Jeff, who was standing nearby, quickly raised his hand: "I've already arranged a car at the door. My guys can take you home directly. Don't worry, they're all very nice, even though they have tattoos and look a bit fierce."
"Thank you!"
Lina did not refuse Jeff's enthusiastic advances.
At Ron's signal, Jeff led the girl toward the door. Kevin, who had lost the support of his limbs, lay on the ground and silently watched everything before him without saying a word.
Lina also glanced at Kevin.
For some reason, she felt an unpleasant sense of closeness to the man in front of her, and she always felt that he was terrifying.
So there wasn't much questioning about why this person had become like this.
But as she approached the church entrance, she suddenly turned back and asked Ron, "Pastor, was I already dead?"
“No, you were just lost before! Forget everything that happened before, it will be better for your future life. Live well, your family loves you very much.” Ron smiled and nodded to comfort Lina with his magnetic voice.
"Okay, I understand, thank you, Pastor." Lina didn't pursue the matter further; she didn't want to recall those horrors. At least things were better now.
This deep-seated aversion to memories stems from life's own rejection and fear of death. As Jeff saw Lina to the door, he suddenly saw an ordinary white car stop, and he instinctively distanced himself from Lina.
The car door opened, and a blonde woman stepped out.
“Caroline, I’ve arranged for this girl to go home on behalf of the pastor,” Jeff said with a smile, his tone explaining.
Then he waved to the henchman at the door, signaling him to quickly send the girl back.
"Oh, it's nothing. I just heard that you were renovating the church here, and I felt a little uneasy and worried, so I came to check it out."
Caroline looked Jeff up and down and breathed a sigh of relief when she found that he was unharmed.
A boy of about fifteen or sixteen years old got out of the passenger seat.
It was Kevin's son.
"Caroline!"
Kevin, who was lying in the church, heard the sound at the door and instinctively shouted out excitedly.
But he regretted it after he shouted it.
He hurriedly gestured to Ron, hoping he would move aside and hide, as he didn't want his ex-wife to see him in his current state.
As soon as he shouted, Caroline at the door heard it and immediately looked into the church.
She knew there was a big conflict between Jeff and Kevin.
Of course, she still didn't realize that the two of them had reached a point where it was a matter of life and death.
Upon hearing this shout, her heart skipped a beat, as if some bad premonition was aligning with her inner emotions.
"Kevin, what happened to you!"
Caroline immediately disregarded everything and ran into the church, leaving Jeff standing there.
"Caroline, don't go over there!" Jeff's voice was completely ignored.
Caroline arrived at the church and saw Kevin lying on the ground. She rushed over, helped him up, and held him in her arms.
She reached out and touched the gaps in Kevin's limbs, her voice choked with sobs: "Kevin, how did you become like this?"
“What happened? Did Jeff do it! Doctor, I need a doctor, William, go back and call for help!” she shouted urgently to her child.
"Caroline, calm down. I'm fine, I'm not in any danger." Kevin felt a warmth in his heart as he looked at his ex-wife's demeanor.
The other person still has their own feelings for them.
He rested his head on Caroline's shoulder, glanced in Jeff's direction, and saw the other standing there helplessly. He immediately revealed a smug expression.
Then he tapped Caroline's shoulder with his head to comfort her, "This really has nothing to do with Jeff. I'm not in any danger now, and my wounds have all healed. See, there's no need to worry."
“But…!” He paused, his words trailing off.
"Just tell me what's on your mind, it's okay." Caroline's tone was like coaxing a child.
"But in my current state, it seems I can no longer live independently." (End of Chapter)
