Chapter 395: Flower Poison Queen Wei
In the history of the Tang Dynasty, there was such a pitiful queen.
This queen married the Crown Prince of the Tang Dynasty when she was still a young girl.
Later, after the Crown Prince became the Emperor, she served as Queen for less than two months before she was driven out of the capital by her mother-in-law and wandered outside for fourteen years.
Fourteen years later, she finally returned to the capital, but her child was forced to death by her mother-in-law.
Years of suffering have turned this originally kind queen into a completely different person.
She began to do everything she could to seek more power.
In the end, for the sake of power, she even poisoned her husband.
However, just when she was only one step away from becoming the queen.
However, she was killed by her husband's nephew and his troops. Her entire family was wiped out, and even her daughter died in the chaos.
This poor queen was Empress Wei, the wife of Emperor Zhongzong of Tang.
Empress Wei's life was basically tragic after she married Li Xian.
Empress Wei spent her life proving that royal life might not be as good as imagined.
"Wei, the empress of Emperor Zhongzong of Tang, Li Xian, was born in the horse house of the Jingzhao Wei family."
"In 680 AD, the beautiful Wei was selected into the palace and was made the Crown Princess."
"In 684 AD, Crown Prince Li Xian ascended the throne and Crown Princess Wei was made Queen."
"After Li Xian ascended the throne, the power of the country was still in the hands of Wu Zetian."
"Li Xian is a hopeless person. As soon as he ascended the throne, he conferred titles on Empress Wei's family members just to please her."
"Empress Wei's father, Wei Xuanzhen, was appointed governor of Yuzhou, and even the son of Empress Wei's wet nurse was promoted to the fifth rank."
"But Empress Wei was still dissatisfied, and Emperor Zhongzong wanted to promote his father-in-law to the position of prime minister."
"The Minister of the Central Secretariat Pei Yan firmly opposed Zhongzong's behavior of favoring his relatives by marriage, and he repeatedly wrote letters to remind him of this."
"This angered Emperor Zhongzong, who even threatened that he would be happy even if he gave the world to his father-in-law."
"This statement soon reached Wu Zetian's ears, and she used this excuse to depose Li Xian."
"Li Xian had only been on the throne for less than two months when Wu Zetian deposed him as Prince of Luling and exiled him to Fangzhou, and his father-in-law Wei Xuanzhen was exiled to Qinzhou."
"Through this incident, we can see the status of Wei in Li Xian's mind."
"Li Xian doted on Wei not only because of her beauty, but also because of her understanding and her comfort and encouragement to Li Xian."
"In April 684 AD, Wu Zetian sent a large force to escort Li Xian and Wei to the remote Fangzhou."
"Wu Zetian was always on guard against her third son, Li Xian, fearing that he would stay in one place for a long time and develop power, and then take back the throne."
"After several years of tossing and turning, their fighting spirit was gradually worn out, and they returned to Fangzhou to live permanently."
"Until 690 AD, Wu Zetian proclaimed herself emperor and changed the Tang dynasty to the Zhou dynasty. She also frequently sent envoys to Fangzhou to inquire about their movements."
"Li Xian was afraid that he would be executed by Wu Zetian like his elder and second brothers because he had offended his mother."
"The envoys were extremely frightened every time they came, and many times they wanted to bang their heads against the wall and commit suicide."
"But Wei remained calm and composed in the face of danger. She supported and encouraged her husband while dealing with the imperial envoys."
"After Wu Zetian became emperor, there were still many people in the society who opposed her. They protested against her on the grounds of supporting Emperor Zhongzong."
"Wu Zetian sent her confidant, her favorite nephew Wu Sansi, to Fangzhou to find out what Li Xian was doing."
"Li Xian was restless when he heard that Wu Sansi, an important figure, had arrived. He was afraid that his mother would send her confidants to kill him."
"Mrs. Wei remained calm and composed. After comforting her husband, she went to see Wu Sansi in private."
"Wu Sansi saw that Wei was full of affection and had a more mature charm than a few years ago."
"Wei knew Wu Sansi's mind very well, so he seduced him."
"When Wu Sansi embraced her in his arms, he immediately promised to do his best to protect her in front of Wu Zetian."
"After returning to Beijing, Wu Sansi did exactly that, praising Li Xian and his wife in front of Wu Zetian for their honesty and loyalty."
"In 698 AD, after several persuasions from Di Renjie, Wu Zetian decided to recall Li Xian after she decided that her son was closer than her nephew."
"Wu Zetian ordered Li Xian and his family to return to Luoyang, but the order did not explain the reason for the recall."
"Li Xian was frightened again and returned to Luoyang trembling with fear. Empress Wei still comforted him from the bottom of her heart."
"When Wu Zetian announced the restoration of Li Xian's status as crown prince, Li Xian jumped up with joy. They finally ended their more than ten years of miserable life."
Liang Hongyu: Compared with Wu Zetian, Empress Wei had better conditions to become emperor.
Although Wu Zetian died and the Great Zhou Empire she established was over, her legend has not yet ended.
After Wu Zetian, Empress Wei tried to continue Wu Zetian's legend and allow women to continue to stay in the highest position of power.
In fact, Empress Wei had better conditions in all aspects to seize the world than Wu Zetian.
First of all, Empress Wei had no rivals in the harem.
Wu Zetian went through untold hardships in order to become the empress of Emperor Gaozong of Tang, Li Zhi.
She first defeated Concubine Xiao Shufei, and then defeated Queen Wang, before finally becoming the queen.
Moreover, even after becoming the queen, her position was not so stable, and she was almost deposed by Emperor Gaozong at one point.
But Empress Wei was different. She and Li Xian had always been a couple who shared weal and woe, and the two of them experienced a very difficult life.
Li Xian was firmly controlled by Empress Wei, and there was no other woman around him.
Secondly, Empress Wei did not need to fight against the royal family of the Tang Dynasty.
When Wu Zetian wanted to control power, the entire Li Tang royal family disagreed and rebelled.
The resistance Wu Zetian faced was unprecedented, and she needed to eliminate it one by one.
To this end, Wu Zetian launched a bloody storm, while Empress Wei did not encounter much resistance from within the Tang Dynasty royal family.
It’s not that Empress Wei did not encounter any resistance, but compared with the resistance encountered by Wu Zetian, it was very small.
Empress Wei could easily gain power without having to engage in such a terrible and cruel fight like Wu Zetian did.
Third, the men married to Empress Wei were much more incompetent than those married to Empress Wu Zetian.
Wu Zetian's man was Emperor Gaozong of Tang, who had made many great achievements in history.
The problem with Emperor Gaozong of Tang, Li Zhi, was that he was in poor health, so many important matters in the court had to be handed over to Wu Zetian.
Li Zhi's mind was still relatively clear. He also saw Wu Zetian's ambition and once tried to depose her.
The situation was different with Li Xian, the man of Empress Wei. He was really stupid and had no opinion of his own.
As soon as he became emperor, he wanted to promote Empress Wei's father to be prime minister.
Empress Wei made all the decisions on important matters in the court.
In short, Li Xian was a tyrant.
Fourth, the struggle between Empress Wei and the crown prince was not as difficult as that between Empress Wu Zetian and the crown prince.
Wu Zetian herself gave birth to four sons, and Li Zhi and other concubines had even more sons.
If Wu Zetian wanted to control the supreme power, she needed to defeat her four sons one by one.
If it's someone else's son, it might be easier.
But fighting with your own son is obviously more difficult.
Wu Zetian first caused the death of her first two sons. Their deaths were inexplicable and filled the whole world with suspicion.
Then she abolished her last two sons.
In short, Wu Zetian's life was extremely difficult.
Empress Wei was different. She had no biological son, only a daughter, Princess Anle.
Princess Anle was not her competitor, but rather her political ally.
Empress Wei even tried to make Princess Anle the Crown Princess, because once Princess Anle was made the Crown Princess, Empress Wei would have a greater chance of controlling power.
Fifth, the pressure that Empress Wei faced from ministers was not as great as that faced by Wu Zetian.
Wu Zetian wanted to be emperor, and the pressure she faced from court ministers was unprecedentedly great.
Many of the ministers in the court had followed Emperor Taizong of Tang in building the empire. They were all extremely smart and capable people.
At the same time, they were also very loyal to the Li Tang dynasty.
Wu Zetian wanted to usurp the Li Tang dynasty, so naturally they would not agree.
The pressure that Empress Wei faced from court ministers actually came only from Zhang Jianzhi and five other kings.
In fact, Zhang Jianzhi and the other five kings looked like five kings.
In fact, they were not very strong. The leader, Zhang Jianzhi, was already eighty years old, and the others were not very capable either.
In addition, there was clearly an element of speculation in the fact that these five kings supported Li Xian and overthrew Wu Zetian to take the throne.
After all, Wu Zetian had already designated Li Xian as the crown prince. Even if they didn't do so, as soon as Wu Zetian died, Li Xian would naturally become the emperor.
The reason they chose to speculate at that time was simply to gain merit and thus power.
Therefore, everyone was not convinced of the Five Kings, and they had no status in the court.
In short, Empress Wei was indeed better than Wu Zetian in all aspects.
However, Wu Zetian eventually became the emperor as expected, while Empress Wei was easily killed.
"In the first month of 705 AD, Li Xian, with the strong support of Prime Minister Zhang Jianzhi and others."
"Finally overthrew his mother Wu Zetian and ascended the throne again, and Wei became the queen again."
"Zhongzong was very grateful to Wei for his support and encouragement over the years. Without Wei's consolation, Zhongzong would probably not have lived to see the day of his restoration."
"When Li Xian became emperor again, it violated the Tang Dynasty's rule that no one with a different surname could be given the title of king."
"I made my father-in-law Wei Xuanzhen a king, and arranged important official positions for Empress Wei's family members in the court. I also fulfilled my promise to give Empress Wei unlimited power."
"At this time, Empress Wei often interfered in government affairs and gradually approached the peak of power."
"Zhongzong and Empress Wei ignored the people who starved to death due to drought and spent their days eating, drinking and having fun."
"Not only that, Empress Wei openly cheated on Emperor Zhongzong."
"After Wu Zetian's death, Wu Sansi lost his strong support and started to have an affair with Empress Wei."
"This kind of scene often appeared in the palace: Wu Sansi and Empress Wei were playing chess and flirting with each other in the palace, while Emperor Zhongzong happily followed suit."
"Sometimes when Emperor Zhongzong Li Xian was not around, Empress Wei would hug Wu Sansi and walk to the bedroom."
"Zhongzong had no ideas about how to run the government, and he often consulted Wu Sansi on matters."
"Empress Wei also asked Emperor Zhongzong to appoint Wu Sansi as prime minister, and Wu Sansi's power grew stronger and stronger."
"Many ministers in the court, led by Zhang Jianzhi, could not stand it any longer and wrote to Emperor Zong to ask him to get rid of Wu Sansi to prevent future troubles."
"But the foolish Zhongzong listened to the slander of Empress Wei and Wu Sansi and killed or exiled Zhang Jianzhi and five other loyal ministers who assisted him."
"Other ministers saw that ministers with outstanding achievements had such a tragic end, so no one dared to speak out against it."
"From then on, Empress Wei, with the help of Wu Sansi and Shangguan Wan'er, became increasingly powerful."
"In addition to Wu Sansi, Empress Wei also kept three handsome men in her harem."
"One is the cook Yang Jun. Empress Wei saw that he was handsome and asked him to serve her in the palace."
"One is the imperial physician Ma Qinke, who came to the palace to treat Wei."
"Because he was handsome, Empress Wei took a liking to him at first sight. After that, Empress Wei would summon him to the palace whether she was ill or not."
"There was also Ye Jing, who was a horse dealer. He performed a circus during the Lantern Festival one year and was noticed by Empress Wei."
"Empress Wei already possessed all the qualities to become Wu Zetian, but she only had the ambition to establish herself as a queen, but she did not have Wu Zetian's talent for governing a country and the ability to judge the current situation."
"Crown Prince Li Chongjun is not Empress Wei's biological son, and he is quite dissatisfied with her style."
"Empress Wei watched Crown Prince Li Chongjun grow up, and she was thinking about how to get rid of this obstacle."
"Princess Anle is the daughter of Empress Wei and Emperor Zhongzong. They both doted on her. Princess Anle also wanted to be a woman like Wu Zetian."
"Empress Wei and Princess Anle constantly suppressed Li Chongjun. Princess Anle once suggested to Emperor Zhongzong that the crown prince be deposed."
"At that time, Crown Prince Li Chongjun knew that Empress Wei and Princess Anle both wanted to establish themselves as kings. His situation was very dangerous, so he had no choice but to take the risk."
"In 707 AD, Li Chongjun and General Zuo Yulin and others raised an army and killed Wu Sansi and his son."
"Unfortunately, Li Chongjun's subordinates turned against him and killed him, so Li Chongjun's rebellion failed." "From then on, Empress Wei became even more unscrupulous, and her cousin Wei Wen and his confidants took control of the power outside the palace."
Su Shi: Comparing Empress Wei and Wu Zetian, Wu Zetian can be regarded as a fighter, while Empress Wei can only be regarded as a pusher.
Wu Zetian fought her way to the throne step by step.
Whether it was fighting against the harem, fighting against her son, fighting against the Li Tang royal family, or fighting against the ministers in the court.
Wu Zetian always stood at the top of the wave, relying on her own strong power to fight with her opponents and defeat them.
It was also during this process that Wu Zetian gained great power.
At the same time, Wu Zetian also had great appeal, and many people stood on Wu Zetian's camp.
For example, Di Renjie is definitely an outstanding prime minister in ancient and modern times. He is upright and has a sense of the overall situation.
Although Di Renjie opposed Wu Zetian's seizure of the Li Tang dynasty, during Wu Zetian's reign as emperor, Di Renjie always protected her and could even be said to admire her.
Therefore, Di Renjie was willing to stand behind Wu Zetian and become a strong force in Wu Zetian's team.
In short, Wu Zetian built her own powerful team in the process of continuous fighting.
Finally, with the help of the team, Wu Zetian was able to establish her empire.
But Empress Wei was not a fighter, she was just a pusher.
For example, after Li Xian became emperor, Empress Wei did not have the ability to handle government affairs.
So he continued to use Shangguan Wan'er to handle government affairs for Li Xian, thus ensuring that he always had the upper hand over Li Xian.
But in this way, Li Xian was indeed suppressed.
However, the one who increased power was not Empress Wei, but Shangguan Wan'er.
For example, Empress Wei wanted to suppress the ministers in the court, especially the five kings including Zhang Jianzhi.
So he brought Wu Sansi into the court and used him to suppress Zhang Jianzhi and the other five kings.
In the end, Wu Sansi successfully suppressed the Five Kings and even killed them, preventing the power of the ministers in the court from expanding.
But in this way, the one who increased power was Wu Sansi, not Empress Wei.
For example, Empress Wei took advantage of Crown Prince Li Chongjun's dissatisfaction and asked Li Chongjun to kill Wu Sansi and eliminate Wu Sansi's power.
However, in this case, it was Li Chongjun who gained power, not Empress Wei.
She also used Li Xian to kill Li Chongjun, but in this way, the one who gained power became Li Xian, not Empress Wei.
What Empress Wei did was actually just transferring power from one person to another.
Her own power did not increase, her prestige in the court did not grow, and she did not build a team to support her.
Not only did she fail to grow in power and had no team, but she also made the court ministers and members of the Li Tang royal family full of disgust towards Empress Wei.
At the same time, Empress Wei herself had no son to inherit the throne.
Therefore, her position was even more untenable, and her interference in the affairs of the court was even more unreasonable and unacceptable.
Under such circumstances, Li Longji seized the opportunity and used his status as a member of the Li Tang royal family to easily launch a coup and kill Empress Wei.
After all, Empress Wei was just a pusher and did not establish her own core team.
Therefore, it is impossible to emulate Wu Zetian and become emperor.
Looking back on Empress Wei's life, she was a considerate woman who gave her husband infinite comfort.
He developed into a bloodthirsty and ambitious power-seeker, and ended up with a tragic end.
The reason why she failed was that she only saw Wu Zetian's glory, but failed to see her talent in governing the country.
She wanted to have Wu Zetian's supreme power, but she did not have Wu Zetian's talent and ambition, nor her love for the people.
Wu Zetian cared about the Tang Dynasty and made many contributions to the country.
Empress Wei didn't care about the lives of the people and only enjoyed the benefits and unlimited glory that power brought her.
I have never thought about the truth that if you want to wear the crown, you must bear its weight.
Such a person is destined not to be supported, and is destined to fail on this path.
"Minister Yan Qinrong saw them committing such evil acts and risked his life to secretly report to Emperor Zhongzong and warn him."
"Empress Wei coveted multiple men and interfered in government affairs, and Princess Anle bought and sold official positions and plotted against her will."
"When Emperor Zhongzong found out, he was furious and ordered Yan Qinrong to investigate the matter thoroughly."
"When Empress Wei found out, she sent someone to bring Yan Qinrong back and threw him to death in front of Emperor Zhongzong of Tang."
"Zhongzong finally realized that Empress Wei was no longer the considerate wife she once was, but wanted to be the second Wu Zetian."
"When Empress Wei saw that Emperor Zhongzong knew about these things, she decided to go all out and conspired with Princess Anle to kill someone and silence them."
"Zhongzong never expected that his wife, who had shared his hardships, would kill him with a piece of his favorite cake."
"On this day, Emperor Zhongzong was reviewing memorials, and the eunuch brought him his favorite cake."
"The eunuch also told Zhongzong that this was made by Empress Wei herself, and Zhongzong was very happy and ate a few more pieces."
"Not long after, Zhongzong suffered from severe abdominal pain and slipped from the dragon throne, rolling on the ground."
"The eunuch was so frightened that he quickly reported to Empress Wei, who deliberately arrived a little late to clear herself of suspicion."
"When Empress Wei arrived, Emperor Zhongzong was already dead with foam coming out of his mouth."
"Once Li Xian died, Empress Wei took control of all the initiative."
"Empress Wei placed all her trusted followers in important positions, and also dispatched 50,000 palace soldiers and imperial guards to protect the palace."
"After everything was ready, he held a funeral for Zhongzong and announced that he would take over the government."
"Empress Wei attempted to become the emperor herself, just like Wu Zetian did, and arranged for Li Xian's fourth son, Li Chongmao, to succeed her. Li Chongmao was not born to Empress Wei either."
"Empress Wei wanted to take charge of the government first, wait for the right time, and then kill Li Chongmao to realize her dream of becoming emperor."
"But Empress Wei didn't know that there was actually a big obstacle to her dream of becoming an emperor."
"Prince Xiang Li Dan and Princess Taiping are both children of Wu Zetian, and they also have great power."
"At this time, the prime minister appointed by Empress Wei encouraged Empress Wei to become emperor, while conspiring with Princess Anle to get rid of Li Dan and Princess Taiping."
"As the saying goes, there is no wall that is impenetrable. The Minister of War was originally a man of Empress Wei, and he has a good relationship with the Prime Minister."
"When I learned that the prime minister wanted to kill Prince Li Dan and Princess Taiping, I was terrified."
"If the operation to murder Prince Xiang, Princess Taiping and the Emperor fails, wouldn't it be a grave crime that would implicate all the nine clans?"
"Finally, the Minister of War decided to tell Li Longji about this matter, and at the same time advised Li Longji to take action as soon as possible to restore the Tang Dynasty."
"Li Longji is Li Dan's son, although he did not grow up in the palace when he was young."
"But Li Longji was brave and resourceful. He made friends with many heroes in Chang'an City and gained the trust of the Ten Thousand Cavalry Army."
"When Emperor Taizong of Tang was in power, he selected a group of brave and skilled warriors to accompany him on his tours and hunting trips. This group of people was called the Hundred Riders."
"During Wu Zetian's reign, this group of people was expanded to a thousand cavalrymen."
"During the reign of Emperor Zhongzong of Tang, it had grown to 10,000 cavalrymen, a very powerful force."
"When Princess Taiping learned that Emperor Zhongzong Li Xian had been poisoned and Empress Wei was in power, she joined forces with her nephew Li Longji."
"Princess Taiping is the mastermind behind the scenes, contacting all the officials in the court."
"Li Longji is responsible for recruiting troops and preparing for further action."
"Li Longji acted under the name of his father Li Dan, leading the Minister of War and others."
"Li Longji was lying in ambush in the Forbidden Palace in plain clothes, and the left and right Yulin soldiers were stationed at Xuanwu Gate."
"When Li Longji gave the order at the second watch, everyone rushed into the palace."
"Empress Wei died at the hands of the rebels, and Princess Anle, Shangguan Wan'er and others were beheaded in public. This is the famous Empress Wei Rebellion."
Zhu Di: Emperor Zhongzong of Tang was poisoned to death by Empress Wei. This was just a deliberate smear by Emperor Xuanzong of Tang.
After the Shenlong coup, Li Xian ascended the throne again, and Empress Wei became the mother of the country again after twenty years.
After Li Xian ascended the throne, he was extremely caring towards Empress Wei. He allowed Empress Wei to serve as regent like his mother Wu Zetian, allowed Empress Wei to build up her power, and even allowed Empress Wei to keep male favorites.
Li Xian condoned a series of actions by Empress Wei, obviously to repay his wife for all the kindness she had shown him in Fangzhou.
He doted not only on Empress Wei, but also on her only daughter, Princess Anle.
But such a good husband and good father was rumored to have been poisoned to death by his wife and daughter.
Although the Old Book of Tang is very convincing, the truth about the death of Emperor Zhongzong of Tang does not seem to be true.
Reason one: the contradictions in the history books themselves.
In the "Old Book of Tang", it is recorded that Empress Wei and Princess Anle planned to poison Li Xian.
However, the biographies of concubines also record that when Li Xian passed away, Empress Wei was afraid that someone would blame her lover and her daughter Princess Anle, so she kept the death a secret and summoned her confidants to the palace to discuss the matter.
There are two hidden messages in this. One is that 'some people blamed the death of Emperor Zhongzong of Tang on Princess Anle and her lover', not 'Emperor Zhongzong of Tang was killed by Princess Anle and her lover'.
Secondly, Empress Wei only summoned her confidants to discuss the matter after the incident happened.
For such a big event, shouldn’t we prepare early and discuss everything in advance?
Waiting until something happens before starting to discuss things in a hurry doesn't seem like a conspiracy. It is indeed a behavior for dealing with emergencies.
However, there is no mention of Empress Wei poisoning Emperor Zhongzong in the Annals of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang. As this was an important reason for Emperor Xuanzong to launch the Tanglong coup, there is no mention of it in the Annals of Emperor Xuanzong, which is enough to explain the problem.
The part about Princess Anle in the Old Book of Tang mentioned many things about her, but it omitted the fact that she had killed her father and the king.
In theory, this is Princess Anle's biggest crime, and she would not miss any other crime than this one.
Reason two: Empress Wei was not ready yet.
In addition to the panic revealed by Empress Wei in dealing with the sudden death of Emperor Zhongzong, from a global perspective, Empress Wei had not yet achieved the political accumulation she should have.
Wu Zetian was made empress at the age of 30 and remained empress for 67 years when Emperor Gaozong passed away when she was 37.
Wu Zetian had plenty of time to build up her power, establish her prestige, and crack down on dissidents.
It had only been five years since Empress Wei was reinstated as empress. With the five kings monopolizing power and the rebellion of Li Chongjun, Empress Wei's power was far from enough to allow her to control the government alone.
There were many officials in the court who supported Prince Li Dan and Princess Taiping, and Empress Wei's power was not yet able to compete with them.
The Li family power that Empress Wei faced was much stronger than the Li family power that Wu Zetian faced back then, and Empress Wei knew this better than anyone else.
With Li Xian's protection, Empress Wei could continue to develop and gradually remove these obstacles.
But once Li Xian passed away, she would have to stand up alone and fight against them. Empress Wei would not be unable to see through the pros and cons.
Reason three, Empress Wei and Princess Anle were still buried with proper ceremony.
Empress Wei and Princess Anle were killed by Li Longji's coup army, and were subsequently demoted to commoners.
Logically speaking, they were no longer the queen and princess, but not long after, Empress Wei and Princess Anle were reburied with proper ceremony.
Empress Wei was buried with the rites of the first rank and Princess Anle was buried with the rites of the third rank, which undoubtedly acknowledged their status during their lifetime.
But in the Tang Dynasty, which respected etiquette and law, killing one's father, husband, and emperor was an unforgivable crime.
If Empress Wei and Princess Anle really killed Emperor Zhongzong of Tang, no matter how the court dealt with them, it would not be excessive.
But their reburial with proper ceremony shows that Li Dan and his son did not actually think that the two had killed Emperor Zhongzong of Tang. It was just a slogan for the coup.
Reason four: Empress Wei and Princess Anle had no reason to kill Emperor Zhongzong of Tang.
Emperor Zhongzong of Tang was extremely kind to them. Except for the matter of Princess Anle being named the Crown Princess, Li Xian almost obeyed him in everything.
But this cannot be a reason for Princess Anle to poison her father, because she wanted to be the crown princess just to take over after Li Xian died.
However, Princess Anle could not pass Empress Wei's test. After Li Xian's death, it must be Empress Wei who would become Princess Anle.
Secondly, Empress Wei and Princess Anle were not strong enough at the time. Who would be stupid enough to cut down the big tree behind them that was blocking the wind when they were not strong enough?
After all, Empress Wei had struggled in the political vortex for many years. How could she not understand this truth?
Therefore, Empress Wei and Princess Anle had no motive at all to kill Emperor Zhongzong Li Xian.
The reason why Empress Wei and Princess Anle were blamed so much was most likely a trick used by Li Dan and his son to strengthen their own legitimacy and the legitimacy of the coup.
After all, Li Longji was the winner, so naturally he had to say what he meant. This was not uncommon in history.
When people who compile historians see the historical materials left by their predecessors, they will naturally think about them for themselves, but they cannot completely deny these records, so there are differences in the accounts.
In this way, he neither denied the historical records nor clarified his position, but it also created a historical mystery. (End of this chapter)
