No wind is a tailwind if a man does not know which dock he is sailing to.

Indeed, everyone hopes that his life will be smooth sailing.

But it is often unsatisfactory and I feel confused.

If people want to be successful, they need to consider the right time, the right place and the right people; none of these factors can be missing.

Li He of the Tang Dynasty was known as the Ghost Poet.

Although he is very talented, his future is worrying.

Fate is just as he wrote: If the sky has feelings, it will also grow old.

Looking back on Li He's life, we can only say that he was a man of great talent.

He was born into a noble family, but he had never enjoyed a life of ease and comfort. He had to shoulder the responsibility of the family at a young age.

Although he was talented, he also met someone who appreciated him.

But unfortunately, he was unlucky and ultimately failed to achieve his wish.

In addition, due to malnutrition and weak constitution since childhood, Li He was often ill.

In addition, he was not an optimistic and open-minded person, so his illness could not be cured for a long time and he eventually died young.

It is sad to see a genius pass away suddenly in the best years of his life.

"In the twelfth year of Emperor Dezong of Tang's Zhenyuan reign, a piece of news was circulating in the streets and alleys of Changgu, Luoyang."

"There's a child prodigy in the area who can write poetry at the age of 7!"

"The news spread quickly and soon reached the capital."

"This child prodigy that everyone is talking about is none other than Li He."

"Li He is extremely talented and works very hard, so he has achieved great success at such a young age."

"His passion for poetry and prose is already ahead of his peers."

"Every morning, Li He would ride his skinny horse, bring his servants with him, and carry a small brocade bag on his back to go out and look for poems."

"When inspiration strikes, I write it down very quickly."

"I put all my poems into the sachet beside me, which is always bulging with content."

"This goes on day after day, leaving early and returning late."

"Once, Li He went out to write poetry as usual. When he reached a place where few people went, a group of people suddenly jumped out on the road."

"The group of people were holding long knives and had ferocious faces. They quickly surrounded him."

"Oh no! Looks like we've been robbed."

"Li He was thin, dressed in extraordinary clothes, and the brocade bag he carried on his back was very eye-catching."

"To the robbers, this is simply fat meat falling from the sky, and they are bound to make a big profit."

"They immediately snatched Li He's brocade bag and reached into it."

"But I didn't expect that what was inside was not silver, but countless small pieces of paper filled with poems."

"The robbers were greatly disappointed and had no choice but to consider themselves unlucky and walked away dejected."

"The lucky bag that Li He carried with him not only made the robbers leave in anger, but also made his mother very unhappy."

"One day when he returned home, his mother saw the densely packed poems in his brocade bag. She was angry and distressed, and could not help but complain."

"It should be a happy thing that my son studies hard, but my mother doesn't think so."

"It turns out that Li He was born with a weak attribute. He has always been weak and sickly, and his health is worse than that of ordinary people."

"Of course a mother doesn't want to see her son's health being damaged by studying."

"But despite this, the young Li He still stubbornly pursued his passion."

"He turned this passion into motivation and worked tirelessly on his creation, which earned him the reputation of being able to write at the age of seven and becoming famous throughout the capital."

“Sometimes, success is not accidental, but the result of talent and hard work.”

"The Li family had already fallen on hard times at that time, and my father's sudden death made things even worse for the Li family."

"Seeing his family's finances deteriorate, Li He had no choice but to put the imperial examination on his agenda."

"In the second year of the Yuanhe reign of Emperor Xianzong of the Tang Dynasty, the door of Han Yu's house was lightly closed, and there was a great deal of noise outside."

"As the exam was approaching, Han Yu, who was then the Imperial College Doctor, became the target of many candidates' poems."

"But facing the papers on his desk, Han Yu looked exhausted - although he had many poems and essays, few of them were good."

"He had just seen off a guest when sleepiness came over him like a dense cloud, and he thought of reading some more poetry to relieve his fatigue."

"He picked up a scroll of poetry and read it while unbuttoning his clothes."

Wang Anshi: The life legend of the ghost poet Li He, he is very happy in heaven, not bitter at all.

Li He was a distant descendant of the Li Tang royal family. His family fell into poverty, his father died early, and his family was extremely poor.

Li He could write poems and essays when he was seven years old. What is hidden behind this incredible thing is puzzling.

At that time, Han Yu, a great literary figure, came to Li's house. Li He composed a poem immediately, which made Han Yu praise him highly. From then on, Li He became famous.

Li He was small and thin, with eyebrows connected together and fingers and nails that were very long and thin.

He went out at sunrise every day, followed by a servant boy carrying a brocade bag.

Li He usually pondered all day long. When he had an inspiration, he would write it down and put it in a treasure bag, and then write it into a poem at night.

When Li He was 21 years old, he took part in the imperial examination, but he was slandered by jealous people, who even made up such an excuse.

Li He's father was Li Jinsu, the pronunciation of Jinsu is similar to Jinshi, so sons should avoid it and not take the Jinshi exam!
Han Yu, the mentor of Li He, was speechless and had to write an article to defend him.

Despite this, Li He was still excluded from the examination room.

Li He, who was eager for fame and fortune, was filled with grief and indignation after this change, and his temperament changed drastically.

Life is not as good as it should be, and things are often eight or nine out of ten. I want to forgive the world, but it is difficult for the world to tolerate people.

Li He, who had no chance of becoming a Jinshi, was recommended as Fenglilang thanks to his father's favor, a position only of the ninth rank.

This kind of lowly job was not even enough to pay for wine, which made Li He's life even more difficult.

Witnessing the corruption of society with his own eyes, Li He wrote a large number of poems criticizing reality and lashing out at the darkness of society.

This is not the end. You can grit your teeth and get through the difficulties in life, but mental blows are fatal.

Li He's wife unexpectedly died a few years later, which hurt Li He very much.

The successive blows made Li He discouraged and he fell seriously ill.

After barely holding on for a few years, this talented poet unfortunately passed away due to illness, ending his short life hastily at the age of 27.

According to Li Shangyin's "Biography of Li He", before Li He's death, he saw a man in red riding a red dragon during the day, holding a book with ancient seal characters, who wanted to summon Li He away.

Li He got out of bed, kowtowed and said, "My mother is old and sick, and I don't want to go yet."

The man in red smiled and said that the Emperor of Heaven had just built a white jade tower and wanted to summon you to write an account of it immediately.

Heaven is very happy and not bitter at all.

Li He just cried, and everyone around him saw it.

Soon Li He was dying. There was thick smoke near the window and the sound of music playing from a moving car.

Li He's mother immediately asked the family to stop crying, and after waiting for a while, Li He passed away.

This incident was witnessed by Li He's sister. It turns out that Li He came to the human world to transcend tribulation.

If calculated according to the ancient belief that one day in heaven is equal to one year on earth, the 27-year-old Li He had been in heaven for less than a month since he came to the human world.

"Dark clouds are pressing down on the city to destroy it, and the armor's light is shining towards the golden scales of the sun."

"After reading the first sentence, Han Yu's eyes lit up."

"When he finished reading the whole poem in one breath, he couldn't help but be overjoyed."

"These articles vividly describe the tense battlefield situation, the fierce momentum, the severe form, and the tragic scene."

"After Han Yu finished reading, he did not even untie his clothes and hurried out to greet him."

"In this way, Li He, who was only 18 years old, knocked on the door of Han Yu's house with a poem "Song of the Prefect of Yanmen"."

"Immediately afterwards, Li He successfully passed the provincial examination with his extraordinary talent and knowledge."

"But when Li He was excited to receive the application for the title of Jinshi, he was told that a busybody had reported that the character Jin in his father's name was homophonic with Jin, which was a taboo and he should be disqualified from the title."

"A taboo can be big or small, and there are very few people who pursue it."

"It is very likely that someone was jealous of Li He's talent and therefore interfered."

"Li He argued vigorously for this, and Han Yu was very angry when he heard it, so he immediately wrote an article "On Taboo" to refute it."

"Finally, the prefect was persuaded by them and issued Li He's release certificate, allowing him to take part in the next stage of the examination."

"In the third year of Yuanhe, Li He's name appeared on the list of Jinshi."

"At that moment, Li He was so excited that it was hard to describe."

"He worked hard on poetry and books day and night, even vomiting his heart out, just for the sake of realizing his ambitions one day."

"I thought his career would be smooth sailing, but I didn't expect that he would be hit hard."

"For the same reason - the homonym of Jin was taboo, which ruined Li He's path to promotion in the imperial examination."

"Li He and Han Yu are of little influence. This time, no matter how much they argue, it will be useless."

"The qualification of Jinshi was cancelled, and several years of hard work was wasted. This was like a bolt from the blue for Li He."

"He was a man of great talent, and should have had his own place in the court, but he never expected that his bright future would be cut short by a villain's frame-up."

"Because of this, Li He was once depressed."

"The evil of human hearts and the absurdity of the system made fate, like an invisible hand, suppress his talent and brilliance."

"That autumn, Han Yu and his good friend Huangfu Shi came to visit Li He. With their comfort, Li He gradually came out of the haze."

"Before they parted, Li He composed a poem called Gao Xuan Guo on the spot to see them off."

"I now hang my wings on the dark swan, so that one day I will not be ashamed to become a dragon."

"As the poem says, the blind wind and rain of reality cannot extinguish the fire of ideals in Li He's heart."

"He did not give up, but regrouped and entered Chang'an again."

"Since there is no way forward, let's open up another one!"

"In the sixth year of Yuanhe, Li He walked into Chang'an City again, but his mood was completely different from before."

"Last time, he was an ambitious candidate for the imperial examination. This time, he is a poor student with a nervous heart."

"I visited many places and wrote many letters to the emperor. Although I was treated with courtesy, I often received no response."

"Later, thanks to the practice of granting official positions through imperial favor at the time, Li He became a minor official after passing the assessment - a ninth-rank Fenglilang."

Su Shi: Li He had an unfortunate life. He lived a wandering life and the poems he created were also very sad.

Like most talented people, Li He lived a wealthy life in his youth.

But the good times did not last long. As his family fell into poverty, he began to live a wandering life.

But Li He was different from others. Although his life was not satisfactory, he still had lofty ambitions in life.

I hope that one day I can pass the imperial examination and realize my life ideals, which is also the ultimate goal of many studies.

Since Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty established the imperial examination system, many talents have been selected for the court over the past thousand years, but of course some talents have inevitably been left out.

Li He was that unfortunate talent, who took the imperial examination several times but failed every time. This made him so disheartened that his later poems always revealed an unspeakable grief.

Li He was not without talent, he just suffered from a lack of opportunities.

The imperial examination system of the Tang Dynasty generally required recommendation from others.

Either you already have a reputation early on, otherwise it is very difficult to pass the exam.

Li He was relatively low-key. Although he came from a prominent family, it did not bring him much glory.

This also became the biggest regret in Li He's life, making his later poems sad and beautiful, and the words were always full of sorrow.

Take the poem "Feeling Spring" for example, every sentence is very sad, it is simply expressing the helplessness of life and the worries about the future.

The sun warms up but the weather becomes bleak, the flowers in the northern suburbs are sad and blooming.

The elm tree pierces the eyes of the rapeseed, and the willow tree breaks the dancer's waist.

The curtain goes up to welcome the divine swallow, and the flying silk sends away the hundred labors.

The huqin is full of hatred today and speaks hastily to the sandalwood flute.

Spring is originally very beautiful, with birds singing and flowers blooming everywhere.

But Li He had no intention of appreciating the beautiful scenery. Instead, he used the scenery to express his emotions in order to relieve the depression in his heart.

The first couplet first describes the characteristics of spring. As winter has passed, the weather begins to gradually warm up, and the temperature is just right, neither cold nor hot.

But my family's financial situation is still bleak. The white flowers blooming in the spring breeze make me, a northerner, even more sad and bored.

The story here is about Beiguo Sao, a scholar in the Spring and Autumn Period. He was a decent and helpful person, and he also came from a poor family.

The second and third couplets focus on describing the lonely mood at that time, and also blend the emotion and scene.

It not only focuses on describing the mood, but also incorporates the beautiful scenery of spring.

This kind of writing style makes these sentences unique and corresponds to the previous two sentences.

It is really worthless, with only elm pods with holes as big as coins. There are no dancing girls, but willow branches with thinner waists than the girls.

Open the curtains to welcome the divine swallow and the thin flying silk, and send off the shrike.

The last couplet serves as the finishing touch to the whole poem. It simply highlights the lonely mood at that time, which also makes the poem have a stronger sense of grief.

A man played the huqin to express his depression today. The sound was so heartbreaking that he threw himself on the rosewood zither.

These make people very sad, but there is nothing they can do about it.

Li He wanted to achieve great things and accomplish something, but he had no opportunities.

It can be seen that Li He had great ambitions and always wanted to go to the frontier to make achievements.

But in real life, I have always been frustrated and just lamented alone.

This poem "Feeling Spring" uses the surrounding scenery to express emotions and describes the misfortunes in life.

As a great poet, Li He was not content with just writing poetry and having no interest in literature.

However, in the real world, he can only be a poet.

After all, he had never had a chance, and several imperial examinations had already made him lose hope.

For this reason, it can only be expressed through words, telling of the misfortunes in life and the pain and sorrow.

This was also Li He’s misfortune and the misfortune of that era.

If Li He had the opportunity, he would definitely be able to achieve success and realize his life ideals.

But there is no way around many things.

This is also what troubled Li He the most, so that every one of his later poems is touching.

It tells the story of the hardships of life, and it makes people feel deeply moved after reading it.

“After exhausting all my efforts and going through so many hardships, I finally got a position that doesn’t match my talent.”

"Despite this, he continued to motivate himself and remained determined."

"At a banquet, the host raised his cup to Li He and comforted him with the story of Zhu Fuyan and Ma Zhou, both of whom were first excluded and then reused."

"Li He was greatly encouraged and immediately wrote the next poem, 'Zhi Jiu Xing'."

"A cup of wine for the lonely and lonely, the host offers the guest a long life."

"The master traveled to the west and never came back, so his family broke the willow tree in front of the door."

"I heard that Ma Zhou was a guest in Xinfeng in the past, and no one knew him even after he died."

"I have written two lines on this piece of paper in vain, asking for His Majesty's grace."

"I'm so obsessed that I can't move. When a rooster sings, the whole world becomes white."

"Young people's thoughts should be like clouds, who cares about the cold and lonely place?"

"Everyone present was shocked when they heard this."

"At the end of the poem, people seem to see the young man who first came to Chang'an, full of hope, standing before them again."

"Although Li Hezhi was not interested in this and felt as depressed as a dog, he still worked diligently in the position of Fenglilang for three years."

"He witnessed with his own eyes the miserable conditions of the people and wrote many poems and essays that reflected reality and lashed out at the darkness."

"He wrote several poems criticizing current events and using history to satirize the present."

"But these poems are like an egg hitting a rock. They have no effect on the rulers of the Tang Dynasty at that time, and may even bring disaster to themselves."

"Doesn't Li He know about the darkness of society and the coldness of people's hearts? Of course he knows."

"What is valuable is that despite knowing how difficult life is and how dangerous the world is, one still has a sense of courage and fearlessness."

"At the end, Li He still had the passion and stubbornness of a man with a Wu Gou."

"Even in the last few years of his life, Li He, who was seriously ill, still did not give up his ideals."

"After resigning, he joined the Zhaoyi Army Jiedushi as a staff member, helping to handle official documents."

"In the eleventh year of Yuanhe, Li He returned home with nowhere else to go and died of illness soon after."

“That year, he was 27 years old.”

"Li He's life was full of ups and downs and frustrations, but he still insisted on repaying the king's kindness on the Golden Terrace and dying for the king with Yulong."

"In a sense, Li He was stubborn, and fate dealt him heavy blows time and time again."

"He lived his life in his own way, and his ideals never wavered."

"Today, the ancient man has gone on the yellow crane, but the poems he left behind have prolonged his life for thousands of years."

"This stubbornness was like a raging fire. It ignited his life and enlivened his poems in his limited 27 years of life, and it cannot be extinguished to this day."

“Maybe sometimes, the difference lies only in the stubbornness of gritting one’s teeth and persevering.”

"It is this stubbornness that makes life spark differently."

Ouyang Xiu: Li He was a man of extraordinary talent, but he lived in poverty and died young.

Li He was born into a declining aristocratic family, and his distant ancestor was the uncle of Li Yuan of the Tang Dynasty.

The first generation is close, the second generation is representative, and the third and fourth generations cannot recognize each other.

Such social rules among relatives naturally alienated Li He from the royal family.

Even so, Li He still used the royal family's name to make a living everywhere.

But who would recognize his identity? They just laughed at him.

After seeing all kinds of faces and eye rolls, he had to admit that the situation was worrying.

How to change your destiny depends on yourself, not on currying favor with powerful people.

I force myself to write poetry every day. When I come across a good idea, I write it down and put it in a cloth bag.

I sorted out the cloth bags at home, worked on the poems, and honed myself repeatedly.

After years of persistent study, he went to the capital to take the imperial examination and was appreciated by the minister Han Yu.

It is definitely not possible for poor people to seek help from relatives or noble people.

After all, there is nothing about you that is worthy of help, which means you have no value.

When Li He had just entered the Jinshi examination hall and was still outside the door, someone reported to the court.

If a person passed the imperial examination and became a Jinshi, it would disrespect his father's name, which was a great act of treason.

After much difficulty, Li He got the opportunity to take the imperial examination. However, during the examination for the Ministry of Personnel, he was once again envied and objected to by others.

This time, Li He completely lost the opportunity to become an official.

However, Li He’s experience illustrates two problems.

First, as a human being, if your name is not right, your words will not flow.

Second, when dealing with people, jealousy is hard to guard against.

If a person has a bad reputation or his name has a bad meaning, then nothing he does will go smoothly.

Life is a changing world and we cannot stick to the old ways.

When Li He's career was not going well, he also thought about changing himself.

He took up arms and stayed in the army for some time.

However, after the An-Shi Rebellion, the Tang Dynasty was in a state of instability.

Before he could achieve anything, the army was reorganized.

Later, with the recommendation of Han Yu, he inherited the glory of his ancestors and became a Fenglilang, a ninth-rank official.

Han Yu also spoke up for Li He, writing in a poem that he only seeks to write articles and does not dare to be jealous or argue.

In fact, a tall building starts from the ground. If you take it slow, there will always be a day when you can succeed.

But Li He began to become violent. There are men in Chang'an whose hearts are rotten at the age of twenty.

Fortunately, he continued his research in poetry and became a big figure in the literary world.

Although his life lasted only more than 20 years, he did not have a successful official career.

But success in literature is a kind of consolation.

Life is like this, if the east gate is closed, the west gate will open.

Many men of letters and poetry did not have successful careers, but that did not prevent them from leaving their names in history.

When things are not going well for a person, he must adapt, otherwise he will reach a dead end.

Living at the bottom of society all your life, if you can adapt and feel happy inside, then everything will be fine.

When the south wind blows, it is a headwind for those traveling south, but smooth sailing for those traveling north.

If you treat headwinds as a test and become more courageous as you overcome them, that is also a tailwind.

If you treat the tailwind as going with the flow, then it is a headwind.

Life is unpredictable, and so are things in the world. You can’t always have things go your way.

As a human being, you must always learn to adjust yourself, start again and again, and accumulate the ability to start over again throughout your life.

Since you can't change the world, then change yourself and the fittest will survive.

If things don't go as planned, then make other arrangements. (End of this chapter)
