Chapter 495 Du Xunhe Body Du Xunhe
In this world, there are many successful people in life, and there are also many people who fail and feel miserable.
But there are more ordinary people who are walking between success and failure.
Even though you are successful now, don't be proud.
They even feel superior to others and look down on ordinary people.
Even if you fail and fall, don't be discouraged, don't feel inferior to others, and lose hope for the future.
As the saying goes, things change over time.
The future is unpredictable. He may be successful at this stage, but someone else may be successful the next moment.
This is especially true for those who are capable but temporarily down and out.
"Du Xunhe, a poet in the late Tang Dynasty, wrote a poem called "Little Pine", which inspired many later generations."
"This poem profoundly reflects the powerlessness and helplessness of ordinary people when facing difficulties, but the philosophy contained in it tells us."
“In the low times, we should stick to ourselves and face the challenges of life positively.”
"I have been in the deep grass since I was little, but now I am gradually emerging from the weeds."
"People today do not know a tree that reaches the sky. Only when it reaches the sky do people realize how tall it is."
"This poem 'Little Pine' is about pine trees, but it also uses pine trees to metaphorically represent people, using objects to make metaphors, and has a profound meaning."
"When the pine tree was young, it was inconspicuous and hidden in the deep grass. Later, it gradually grew taller and taller, surpassing the weeds."
"People couldn't see it was a towering tree at the time, until it reached the sky, and then they said it was tall."
“This poem reveals the common people’s desire to be recognized and respected, as if it were their inner voice.”
“The small pine tree in the poem, gradually growing out of the soil, vividly represents the plight and fate of ordinary people in life.”
"The environment where it grows is surrounded by weeds and other trees, blocking the sun and rain, just like the various oppressions and difficulties that ordinary people encounter in life."
"The author Du Xunhe uses the small pine tree as a metaphor to describe his own life situation and experiences."
"Like many ordinary people today, Du Xunhe was born in an ordinary family, so it is very appropriate for him to use a small pine tree to describe himself."
"There is a very interesting theory about his background. Some say he is the son of Du Mu."
"The reason is that Du Mu was transferred to Chizhou as a governor at the end of the Huichang period, and his concubine was already pregnant at that time."
"This concubine was later married to another man named Du, Du Yun, and gave birth to Du Xunhe."
"But regardless of whether he was Du Mu's child or not, Du Xunhe's life was full of ups and downs."
"He lived in a period of transition from the late Tang Dynasty to the Five Dynasties. The more brilliant the heyday of the Tang Dynasty was, the darker the politics of the late Tang Dynasty was."
"The lives of ordinary people were very hard, and the intellectuals born in this period were also very miserable, often wasting their lives."
"Du Xunhe, who had ambitions since childhood, studied hard in his youth."
"In order to realize his ideal, he studied in Jiuhua Mountain, Lushan Mountain and other places."
"After completing his studies, he took the imperial examination with great ambition, hoping to enter the government and bring honor to his family."
"But the more beautiful the dream is, the more cruel the reality is."
Su Shi: This short poem of just four lines is full of life philosophy and has inspired countless people who are in low spirits.
Since I was young, in the deep grass, I have gradually felt basil.
People didn't know Lingyun wood at the time, and waited until Lingyun began to rise high.
This poem has only 28 words, but it is full of infinite life philosophy. If we understand it, we will benefit from it for a lifetime.
Since I was young, in the deep grass, I have gradually felt basil.
When the pine tree first breaks through the ground, it is so small that it is buried in the deep grass.
But it never bows its head and keeps growing straight upward. Now its size has exceeded the height of the weeds.
The first two sentences describe the harsh environment in which the pine tree grows and its growth habits.
The thorns on the head of the pine tree not only outline the appearance of the pine tree, but also accurately express its indomitable character and unstoppable spirit.
It is precisely because of this spirit and character that the weeds emerge.
This is an inevitable result and a sign of future success.
People didn't know Lingyun wood at the time, and waited until Lingyun began to rise high.
People don't know that it is actually a towering tree. Only when it grows into a towering tree do people start to praise its height and acknowledge its grandeur.
In the last two lines, the poet uses "Lingyun" twice in a row, and the last one naturally refers to the big pine tree.
The big pine tree is already towering into the sky, so it is meaningless to praise its height at this time.
It is only wise and meaningful to care for and cultivate towering trees when they are still young.
When he wrote about pine trees and little pine trees, he was actually writing about himself.
He was born in a poor family and compared himself to a young pine tree buried in weeds, which is quite appropriate.
There is a very interesting story about Du Xunhe's origin.
It is said that when Du Mu was transferred to be the governor of Chizhou at the end of Huichang period, his concubine was already pregnant. She later married Du Yun, the head of Changlin County, and gave birth to Du Xunhe.
But regardless of whether he was Du Mu's illegitimate son or not, Du Xunhe's life was rather difficult.
The era in which he lived was the transition period from the late Tang Dynasty to the Five Dynasties. As brilliant as the heyday of the Tang Dynasty was, the politics of the late Tang Dynasty was as dark. Naturally, the poets born in this period were quite miserable.
Du Xunhe, a young and talented man, had great ambitions. In order to realize his dream, he studied hard in Jiuhua Mountain, Lushan Mountain and other places for about ten years.
After completing his studies, he took part in the imperial examination with great ambition, hoping to become famous overnight.
The corruption of the late Tang Dynasty had already penetrated into the imperial examinations. The imperial examinations for selecting talents had already evolved into blatant bribery. If you had someone above you, you would naturally be able to pass.
Du Xunhe, who was unappreciated and had no relatives in the court, was on the road to imperial examination.
Although he often visited high-ranking officials, he was still looked down upon, which led to his repeated failures in examinations.
After taking the exam several times, he encountered the Huang Chao Uprising. He had no choice but to return to his hometown from Chang'an and live a secluded life of half farming and half studying.
The world is unfair, and I naturally feel unfair in my heart, so I wrote this poem "Little Pine" under such circumstances.
He uses objects to express his aspirations, expressing his confidence that sooner or later he will succeed and make people take notice of him.
Although the pine tree is small, it is still noble and strong. Sooner or later, it will stand tall and proud. This is also what we want to say to those who look down on us.
At that time, the feudal lords were in power, and poets and scholars in the late Tang Dynasty who wanted to seek fame and fortune could seek opportunities in various feudal lords.
After the Huang Chao Rebellion ended, Du Xunhe fled to Daliang and risked his life to pay a visit to the powerful King of Liang, Zhu Wen.
This time his luck finally turned and he was highly regarded by King Liang.
Therefore, King Liang sent someone to report Du Xunhe's name to the Ministry of Rites, which was in charge of the imperial examinations.
With Zhu Wen's recommendation, Du Xunhe indeed passed the imperial examination and ranked eighth. At that time, Du Xunhe was already 46 years old.
Unfortunately, he was recommended by Zhu Wen to the court to serve as a Hanlin scholar, but he died within a few days.
Although Du Xunhe was teased as a five-day Hanlin, this was the result of his decades of hard study and is something worthy of recognition.
Looking back at this short, concise and easy-to-understand ode, it is full of life philosophy and has an optimistic and positive force that inspires us to move forward.
If you are in a bad situation and at the lowest point in your life, you must be more positive and optimistic.
Because this is not a failure. As long as you believe in yourself, difficulties are only temporary.
Mountains have peaks and valleys, people have ups and downs, and no one's life remains unchanged.
Never underestimate yourself or others.
"Corruption in the late Tang Dynasty had already infiltrated the imperial examinations. The purpose of the examinations was supposed to be to select talents and heroes regardless of their origins. Unfortunately, the imperial examinations at that time often became a transaction."
"Some people bribed openly, some people asked others to help them, and some people made inquiries. Anyway, there were many such incidents at that time."
"Du Xunhe has no money, and no relatives or friends serving as officials in the court."
"It was very difficult to take the imperial examination. I took the exam several times but got no results."
"He also visited officials and tried to get ahead as soon as possible, but it didn't work."
"Later, the Huang Chao Uprising broke out at the end of the Tang Dynasty. Du Xunhe had no choice but to return to his hometown and live a secluded life of half farming and half studying."
"The world is unfair, and it's hard for him to be at peace."
"In this mood, he wrote the poem "Little Pine", using objects to express his aspirations."
"To express his ideal that sooner or later he will be able to stand out and impress others."
"Du Xunhe described the young pine tree as being noble and tenacious despite its young age, and believed that it would eventually grow strong."
"His words contained both self-encouragement and a response to those who looked down on him."
"Despite the setbacks, Du Xunhe never gave up his dream of a career in government."
"Due to the powerful military governors at that time, many late Tang Dynasty scholars could only go to the military governors to try to seek a career."
"After the Huang Chao Rebellion, Du Xunhe resolutely went to Daliang, hoping to be accepted by Zhu Wen, the powerful Prince of Liang at that time."
"Fortunately, he successfully obtained an audience with King Liang."
"And thanks to the recommendation of King Liang, he passed the imperial examination in 891 AD, at the age of 46."
“Although the honor came late, it at least proved that his persistence was not in vain.”
"However, unfortunately, Du Xunhe died shortly after being appointed as a Hanlin scholar."
"Such a life full of twists and turns seems to predict the fate that many ordinary people may encounter." "After understanding his life trajectory, re-examining this concise and touching poem, it is not difficult to discover the rich life philosophy contained in it."
"The opening line describes the state of a young pine tree just growing out of the thorny grass. It is so small and pitiful."
"The weeds on the roadside were taller than it, and it was buried in the deep grass."
"Sometimes he felt depressed and lost, and he looked at the tall trees and for a moment he envied them."
"How tall and straight they grow, their branches stretch out freely, absorbing the sun and rain."
Xin Qiji: Du Fu, Du Mu and Du Xunhe were all great poets with the surname Du in the Tang Dynasty. It is said that Du Mu and Du Xunhe were father and son.
There is a legend in history that Du Xunhe was the son of the great poet Du Mu's concubine. Son of a concubine is a euphemism.
What this means is that the concubine was divorced by her husband's family and the child was born after she left her husband's family. The implication is that Du Xunhe is an illegitimate child.
The social environment in the late Tang Dynasty was very turbulent, and the Huang Chao Uprising shook the foundation of the Tang Dynasty.
Although he did not directly destroy the Tang Dynasty, he indirectly helped Zhu Wen conquer the world.
Evaluations of the Huang Chao Uprising are mostly negative, with innocent people being killed indiscriminately and causing great public resentment.
When he saw the chaos that was rampant when Huang Chao attacked Chang'an, he resolutely betrayed his master and surrendered to the Tang Dynasty.
Emperor Xizong of Tang Dynasty felt like he had found a life-saving straw, and the court gave Zhu Wen the name Quanzhong.
Zhu Wen took advantage of the court's reliance on him to grow more and more powerful, almost threatening the imperial power.
He forced the emperor to move the capital to Luoyang, plotted to kill Emperor Zhaozong of Tang Li Ye, and made the twelve-year-old Li Yu the emperor.
Three years later, he accepted the abdication of Emperor Ai of Tang, ascended the throne, changed his name to Zhu Huang, and named the country Daliang, thus becoming the Later Liang of the Five Dynasties.
Du Xunhe had an unclear relationship with Zhu Wen when Zhu Wen took control of the Tang Dynasty.
Du Xunhe wrote ten poems entitled "On the Current Times" in which he urged Zhu Wen to reduce corvée labor and taxes, but Zhu Wen did not adopt any of his suggestions.
Du Xunhe was unwilling to give up, so he wrote another thirty poems "Praise for Virtue" to please Zhu Wen, but Zhu Wen did not respond.
Du Xunhe stayed in Luoyang, the capital of Daliang State, for several months, and was in a dilemma.
Du Xunhe enjoyed writing poetry throughout his life. His poems covered many subjects, which can be divided into three categories.
One type describes living in seclusion in the mountains and pursuing solitude, with the style of Jia Dao.
The second category is realistic poetry, which sympathizes with the sufferings of the people and satirizes the actions of officials.
The third category, writing about erotic palace affairs, only one poem "Spring Palace Complaint" is enough.
I was misled by the beauty early on, and I am too lazy to put on my makeup in front of the mirror.
The grace of gratitude does not lie in appearance, but in teaching me how to be graceful.
The wind is warm, the sounds of birds are broken, and the sun is high and the shadows of flowers are heavy.
Every year the girls from Yuexi remember picking lotus flowers together.
The first four lines of the poem begin with palace resentment. Chanjuan refers to beautiful appearance. The palace maids were chosen into the palace because of their good looks.
After entering the palace, she felt lonely and isolated. She wanted to dress up, but when she thought about how beauty could mislead people, she hesitated and was too lazy to start.
The last four lines end with a description of the scenery and spring. There is a popular proverb nowadays: Among Du Fu's 300 poems, this is only mentioned in one couplet.
This couplet means: the wind is warm and the birds’ chirping is shallow, the sun is high and the shadows of flowers are heavy.
The warm wind matches the high sun, the chirping of birds matches the heavy shadows of flowers, every word flows like flowing water, and every sentence is antithetical.
The palace maid opened the window out of boredom and looked out. Outside, the spring breeze was warm, birds were singing, the sun was shining brightly, and the shadows of flowers were overlapping.
I couldn't help but recall the joyful scenes of picking lotus in Ruoye Creek in my hometown every year before I entered the palace.
There are many poems about palace complaints, but "Spring Palace Complaint" is the only poem that seamlessly connects spring and palace complaints.
"But when it looked at itself again, it lowered its head and felt that it was too ordinary, too insignificant, and nothing."
"It feels lost and inferior, and it tries to survive with its survival instinct."
"It grows in a pile of weeds. Sometimes it feels like it's about to suffocate. It doesn't know how long it can last, but it just keeps growing."
"Suddenly one day, on a sunny morning, it felt the warmth of the sun shining on its body."
"Looking around, I realized that the weeds that once covered the ground were now under my feet. He had grown up."
"How could the world know that this little pine tree is actually a towering tree? When it was small, no one looked at it seriously until it grew into a towering tree."
"People only start to rest and enjoy the cool under the tree when they pass by, and only then do they begin to sigh and say what a majestic and tall tree it is."
"These lines of poetry are really moving to read. They represent the growth of the pine tree, and even more so the growth of man."
"What Du Xunhe said is really good. One can only reach the highest point when one reaches the sky. Growth is often a slow process. Too many people suffer unbearable pressure during the growth process."
"And the worst part is that there are often very few people who can give you some patience or even some encouragement during this process."
“Because everyone is busy living their own lives, it’s hard when you’re growing up.”
"No matter how great your abilities are, few people will be able to spot you."
“Therefore, when times are tough, don’t wait for a mentor, grow up on your own and shine on your own.”
“Everyone has unique potential and strengths, but before these potentials can be fully realized, we often face misunderstanding, neglect and injustice from the outside world.”
"In this process, Du Xunhe's poems pointed us in the right direction."
“Instead of being depressed and complaining, you should persevere and strive to grow.”
“Life is like a long marathon, the end and the result are unknown.”
“Everyone is trying to find and express themselves in this race, and no one can predict the final winner.”
“Therefore, I hope every young man can cherish himself and hone himself.”
"Create the best possible self-image with a positive attitude and unremitting efforts."
“Not only for self-realization, but also to show the world its unique value and brilliance.”
Li Qingzhao: Du Mu's illegitimate child. Du Xunhe was promoted because of a poem, but later incurred public anger.
The politics of the late Tang Dynasty was extremely corrupt, and there were many talented and ambitious literati and poets.
Although I have the ambition to serve my country, I have no way to do so.
Du Xunhe was no exception. He felt throughout his life that his talent was not appreciated and he had no way to serve his country.
So I lay down and immersed myself in the joy of writing poetry.
He wrote poems on many subjects, which can be roughly divided into three categories.
One type writes about living in seclusion in the mountains and pursuing solitude.
One type writes about erotic palace stories, and the other type writes realistic poems that sympathize with the sufferings of the people.
Compared with the poets of the early Tang, the prosperous Tang and the middle Tang, there was no more passionate environment and no more positive years.
Du Xunhe was in the midst of this situation, but it did not affect him much, so he wrote realistic poems.
Although it is fierce, it is not empty; although the truth is valuable, it is hidden.
Everyone could feel the social decline of the late Tang Dynasty. Social contradictions, from the officialdom to the people, were so tangled that they could no longer be untangled.
Du Xunhe lived in an environment where the Huang Chao Uprising broke out. For some reason, Du Xunhe was involved in the uprising in his later years.
Not only were the siblings separated, but he was also involved for no reason.
The Huang Chao Uprising shook the foundation of the Tang Dynasty.
Although he did not directly destroy the Tang Dynasty, he indirectly helped Zhu Wen seize the world.
Huang Chao had a general under him named Zhu Wen, and Du Xunhe had an unclear relationship with Zhu Wen.
After Zhu Wen took control of the Tang Dynasty, Du Xunhe wrote ten poems entitled "On the Current Times" in an attempt to persuade Zhu Wen to reduce corvée labor and taxes, but Zhu Wen did not adopt his ideas.
Du Xunhe was unwilling to give in, so he wrote another thirty poems "Praise for Virtue" to please Zhu Wen, but Zhu Wen did not respond.
Du Xunhe stayed in the capital of Daliang for several months, feeling caught in a dilemma.
It is said that Zhu Wen was a man of unpredictable moods who killed people at a rapid pace. Whenever he got angry, he would kill people to vent his anger.
If the person he summoned was not there, even his subordinates would not be able to escape death.
Zhu Wen rolled six dice to summon Du Xunhe, and all six were red. Zhu Wen shouted, "Poor scholar!"
It is the same world, but things are different. Raindrops are flying in the sun.
If we could make Yin Lang look similar, we could compete to show off King Liang’s talent for creation.
This poem was too flattering, and although it won Zhu Wen's great praise, it was unfortunately included in Du Xunhe's collection of essays.
It became a stain in his life that could not be erased even if he wanted to.
In that year, Zhu Wen was still a king and had not yet ascended the throne, but he later sent a special letter to the Ministry of Rites on behalf of Du Xunhe.
Du Xunhe passed the imperial examination and was appointed as a Hanlin scholar and the deputy minister of the Ministry of Rites.
Du Xunhe was a cautious person and he never achieved success in his studies or career.
A poet who works hard in the world and the poorest person in the world is his analysis of himself.
After he was promoted and became successful by Zhu Wen, he suddenly became extremely confused.
Du Xunhe had a dishonorable career path and felt guilty, so he did not get along well with his colleagues while in office.
He often took advantage of his power to bully others and insult officials. Over time, he aroused public anger. Everyone was ready to kill him, but they ran out of time.
Du Xunhe fell seriously ill and died soon after. This year was only two years before the fall of the Tang Dynasty and Zhu Wen's enthronement. (End of this chapter)
