Chapter 1236 Qiao Mai of the 1970s 4
“There’s a store manager overseeing things,” Qiao Mai said, avoiding the main point. After pressing the buttons for floors 7 and 8, she looked down at the gleaming elevator floor. “You’re here early today too.”

"Yeah, I took a walk around the city today," Gu Jingyue said softly. "Are you in a bad mood?"

“Not really,” Qiao Mai said, not wanting to talk much to a stranger. She stared at the constantly changing numbers on the elevator screen. When the number jumped to 7, Qiao Mai nodded slightly to the other person: “Goodbye.”

Gu Jingyue nodded, watching Qiao Mai walk towards room 703. This was the second time he had seen Qiao Mai; it seemed that every time he saw her, she was crying?
The woman he saw, with red-rimmed eyes, was nothing like the ruthless and decisive CEO Qiao he'd heard about. Or perhaps everyone has two faces?
Qiao Mai didn't dwell on her reunion with Gu Jingyue; deep down, she was a traditional woman who wanted a man to rely on. However, she was also self-aware enough that someone like Gu Jingyue wasn't right for her.

She was just an ordinary pastry shop owner, with some money and a bit of a reputation. But that reputation belonged to Tan You, not something she had earned through hard work. Qiao Mai didn't have the audacity to openly boast about the reputation and achievements Tan You had built up.

They were just neighbors living upstairs and downstairs, nothing to worry about. Qiao Mai told herself this, completely putting Gu Jingyue out of her mind.

Another month passed quickly. During this month, Qiao Mai didn't see Guo Wenshan again; her mind was now focused on getting her driver's license. Who told Tan You to keep her hanging on with promises? If she passed her driving test, Tan You would give her a car.

Qiao Mai thought that the weather was getting colder and it would be inconvenient to ride a bicycle to and from get off work. But she felt a sense of accomplishment when she received the reward from Tan You.

Qiao Wenting handed her a car key: "This is a reward that President Tan asked me to give you."

Qiao Mai fiddled with the car keys, her face beaming with delight: "Really for me?"

“It’s for you,” Qiao Wenting said, looking at Qiao Mai as if she were a junior. “President Tan and I have similar tastes. We both like grand and imposing car models, while you prefer those delicate and cute ones.”

"Mr. Tan specially ordered it for you from overseas; it's already parked in the parking lot downstairs."

Qiao Mai snapped out of her daze: "Why do I feel like you all treat me like a child? I'm older than all of you, I'm the elder!"

She looked around the company. Zhang Yifeng, Qiao Wenting, and Tan You—weren't they all younger than her? Yet they all treated her like a child?
Tan You gave a faint "hmm," and Qiao Mai immediately backed down: "President Tan, I'm your elder! Those two have really gone too far!"

Tan You: "Age is just a number. When it comes to mental maturity, you are far inferior to them."

Qiao Mai said somewhat aggrievedly, "President Tan~"

Tan You tapped her forehead: "Stop being so coquettish, go test drive the car and see if you like it."

Qiao Mai narrowed her big eyes and smiled sweetly: "I definitely like it. President Tan knows me best."

Qiao Wenting shook her head. Stepping outside the role of her daughter, she found this side of Qiao Mai particularly endearing. No wonder men love naive and innocent girls; she liked them too.

She's her naive and innocent mother, and she can't be easily fooled.

Spoiled by Tan You and pampered by Qiao Wenting, Qiao Mai has no pressure in life and has a particularly good mindset. Upon seeing the milk tea-colored Beetle in the parking lot, Qiao Mai let out a small scream and pounced on it, showering it with hugs and cuddles.

Qiao Wenting and Zhang Yifeng stood not far away watching. Zhang Yifeng suddenly chuckled and said, "I suddenly have the feeling of raising a daughter ahead of time. So this is what Aunt Xiaomai's true personality is like."

Zhang Yifeng felt that Qiao Mai was too easy to understand. She was clearly over thirty, but age only brought experience, not wisdom; she was obviously a very simple person. Qiao Wenting looked at Qiao Mai gently: "She suffered a lot in those years. Now she can be free to be herself, and I'm happy for her. A bad marriage can really change a person beyond recognition. It's good that she's like this now."

Finally having had her fill of admiring the little milk tea, Qiao Mai rushed over to hug Tan You, but since Tan You didn't have a physical form, she could only hug Qiao Wenting and shake him vigorously: "Tingting, I really like you so much!"

Qiao Wenting wrapped his arms around her back and said, "I'm glad you like it. President Tan also ordered a strawberry pink one for you, which you won't get until the end of the year. That color is even prettier, but it's too girly."

Qiao Mai's eyes sparkled: "I'd love her even if she's a girl!"

Qiao Wenting shook her head. As a domineering CEO, she couldn't possibly drive such a pink car out. It was only because her mother had completely let go of the reins of power that she could do whatever she wanted without restraint.

Qiao Maila opened the car door and got in: "I'm going out for a stroll to see what's going on. You guys go do whatever you need to do!"

Nowadays, car colors are scarce, unlike in later generations when everyone wanted to be creative. In an era where the streets were mostly black or white, with brown cars being the least common, this milk tea-colored car attracted everyone's attention as soon as it hit the streets.

Qiao Mai drove around the city until dusk before preparing to head home. Unfortunately, her joy turned to sorrow when she was rear-ended just as she was about to leave.

It can't even be called a rear-end collision; it's obvious that she was deliberately bumped into by the other party.

The impact of a rear-end collision is immense. As a novice driver, Qiao Mai instinctively slammed on the brakes. The impact caused Qiao Mai's forehead to hit the steering wheel, making her see stars. When she touched the painful spot, her fingertips were already bleeding.

Qiao Mai pouted. Spoiled by Tan You and Qiao Wenting lately, her stubborn streak was finally showing. Suppressing her dizziness, Qiao Mai unbuckled her seatbelt and prepared to get out of the car.

Tan You suddenly appeared: "Don't get out of the car, lock the doors."

Qiao Mai obediently did as she was told, and looked at Tan You with a pitiful expression: "President Tan, I feel dizzy."

“It’s normal to feel dizzy from a concussion,” Tan You said calmly. “I’ve already called the police and an ambulance. Just wait quietly in the car.”

Qiao Mai nodded, about to continue speaking, when there was a knock on the car window. Qiao Mai instinctively turned her head, then covered her head the next second: "I'm dizzy."

After recovering from the dizziness, Qiao Mai rolled down the car window: "Gu Jingyue? What are you doing here?"

Gu Jingyue was also surprised. He had come to check on the situation, after all, he was a witness. He had seen the car behind crash directly into this car. However, Gu Jingyue did not expect that the driver was Qiao Mai.

"Are you alright?" A hint of worry flashed in Gu Jingyue's eyes. "You're bleeding. Should I take you to the hospital?"

Qiao Mai felt dizzy: "I'm so dizzy, I feel like throwing up as soon as I move. And my car, my daughter just gave it to me today..."

I don't know how to get this car repaired, or if it can be repaired to be exactly the same as before.
