Chapter 701 Old Dream
"You're instigating crime, aren't you?" Li Zhuangsheng laughed as he picked up the clips and removed the wire.

"I just happened to lose a clip, and who knew you would use it to unlock the classroom door. In order to prevent you from committing any crimes, I had no choice but to follow you in and keep an eye on you," Lin Yuehua said with a faint smile.

"Good good..."

Li Zhuangsheng applauded Lin Yuehua's wit with an inexplicable expression, then pressed down on the lock, adjusted the small hook at the end of the wire, poked the lock, and opened it.

Li Zhuangsheng went in first, and the seating arrangement in the classroom was roughly the same as he remembered.

"Where did I used to sit?" Li Zhuangsheng muttered.

He couldn't quite remember where he sat back then, since the seating arrangements had changed so many times in high school.
Lin Yuehua remained silent, walked straight to her original seat, pulled out the chair, and sat down.

"Not this spot..."

Li Zhuangsheng slowly closed his eyes, then opened them again, and carefully groped his way to sit in another seat.

In the darkness, Lin Yuehua and Li Zhuangsheng stared at each other for no apparent reason. Although they had gradually become accustomed to the darkness, they could only barely make out the outline of each other's faces.

Lin Yuehua got up and sat down next to Li Zhuangsheng.

"Is this the place?" Lin Yuehua asked.

The two looked at each other, speechless. Li Zhuangsheng stared blankly at Lin Yuehua, while Lin Yuehua smiled calmly.

"I must have remembered it wrong."

Li Zhuangsheng stood up and sat down next to where Lin Yuehua had been sitting.

Lin Yuehua then got up and returned to her original seat.

Li Zhuangsheng lay sprawled on his seat, squinting, and murmured, "Feiguang, Feiguang, let me offer you a cup of wine. I know not the height of the blue sky, nor the thickness of the yellow earth."

“There’s still time, let me quiz you on vocabulary,” Lin Yuehua said quietly. “I’ll ask you, and you spell it.”

“…Okay.” After a long silence, Li Zhuangsheng actually agreed.

"Make one mistake and have to copy it ten times?"

"This punishment is too harsh! Do you really think I'm a high school student?!"

Lin Yuehua smiled slightly: "Then what do you want?"

Li Zhuangsheng thought for a moment and said, "If I answer wrong, I'll kiss you; if I answer right, you'll kiss me."

"also."

Lin Yuehua nodded slightly: "An emergency, a sudden incident."

Li Zhuangsheng lamented, "Damn it, after all this time, you still remember which words I didn't know well! I used to make these mistakes easily, and now I'm even worse... Read them aloud, let me hear it."

"emergency".

"Let me think... e, m, e, i, g, e, n, c, y. Right? It's correct!"

“Sigh…” Lin Yuehua gently rubbed her forehead. “How many times are you going to make this mistake? It’s emer, you idiot.”

Li Zhuangsheng was taken aback, then turned his face away: "Okay, actually I misspelled it on purpose, to see if you could tell!"

"Still being stubborn!" Lin Yuehua tapped his head, then pointed to her own mouth.

Li Zhuangsheng leaned down and gently kissed Lin Yuehua's lips, saying shamelessly, "Come on, if you dare, I won't hold back this time!"

Lin Yuehua picked up Li Zhuangsheng's vocabulary words after a long time, and it ended in Li Zhuangsheng's crushing defeat.

"...Actually, I was just teasing you." The result was so disastrous that Li Zhuangsheng couldn't save face and tried to salvage the situation, "Hmph, you fell for it! I actually answered most of the questions wrong on purpose! I just gave you a few extra kisses!"

"Oh, you're really clever." Lin Yuehua couldn't help but chuckle. "I didn't expect I'd fallen for your trick." "It's alright, I'll just let you kiss me back!" Li Zhuangsheng patted his chest generously.

"I don't want to. I'm afraid I'll become an idiot like you," Lin Yuehua said firmly.

Li Zhuangsheng was furious: "What did you say?"

After saying that, he forcibly picked up Lin Yuehua and showered her with kisses.

"So you're a smart aleck, huh? Hmph, I'll make you as stupid as me!"

Lin Yuehua smiled silently. Suddenly, footsteps echoed from the stairwell in the distance.

Li Zhuangsheng quickly stopped flirting with Lin Yuehua, thankfully the footsteps didn't stop on this floor. Just then, the broadcast sounded again from the distant playground.

“The boarding students are up.” Li Zhuangsheng got up from Lin Yuehua, his tone wistful. “We should go.”

The distant broadcast seemed to jolt Lu Sheng from his pipe dream. Li Zhuangsheng snapped back to reality; they no longer belonged here.

"Life is but a fleeting dream, and how many times does one experience the chill of winter?"

He recalled the line of poetry he had written on the title page of his first compulsory Chinese textbook. He was so young then, only thinking that "forcing oneself to write new verses to express sorrow" was cool; how could he have understood the meaning of that line?

A few years ago, when he graduated from high school, he fell in love with the line "Life is like water beneath ice, flowing eastward day and night, unknown to man." But four years later, Li Zhuangsheng still felt that "life is but a dream" was better.

I wonder what new changes my mindset will undergo in a few years.

Walking onto the podium, Li Zhuangsheng picked up the blackboard eraser and erased the countdown to the college entrance examination from 178, changing it to 177.

"You're welcome!" he said.

Today is December 12th, 177 days until the college entrance examination. He can't remember the other dates, but he will never forget this one.

The two left the classroom with their empty backpacks, and Li Zhuangsheng locked the door again.

“Perfect timing, let’s take a stroll around the school.” Li Zhuangsheng chuckled, feeling the light snow on his face. “It’s so dark, even if we run into some teachers we know, they might not recognize us.”

Lin Yuehua smiled and nodded. The two slowly went downstairs. The sky was still pitch black, but more streetlights were lit up.

Not only boarding students, but also more and more day students have entered the campus. Li Zhuangsheng and Lin Yuehua blended in without any sense of incongruity, and did not arouse any suspicion from others.

"Let's go to the cafeteria for breakfast," Li Zhuangsheng suggested.

"Do you have a meal card?" Lin Yuehua was taken aback.

"Yes!" Li Zhuangsheng grinned and pulled out his old meal card from his schoolbag. "There should still be some money left."

"After all these years, is it still usable?"

"It should work, give it a try. If it doesn't work, just borrow it from a junior or senior and pay them." Li Zhuangsheng grinned and sneered, "Oh, I forgot, you were a lone wolf in high school, you didn't have anyone to borrow your meal card from."

Lin Yuehua reached out and pinched Li Zhuangsheng's cheek: "Shut up!"

The two laughed and walked quickly towards the cafeteria, where many boarding students were eating. There were very few breakfast stalls, only three or four open, and they mostly served porridge and steamed buns.

"Auntie, please give me two meat buns, one vegetable bun, and a bowl of spicy soup." Li Zhuangsheng walked to the window, pointed at Lin Yuehua, and smiled, "She's the same size as me, but she can eat more, so give her two extra sesame balls!"

Lin Yuehua raised an eyebrow and nudged Li Zhuangsheng's buttocks with her leg.

After getting his food, it was Li Zhuangsheng's turn to pay. He placed his card on the card reader, and the good news was that the card still worked. The bad news was that he only had 1.5 yuan left on the card.

Li Zhuangsheng looked at Lin Yuehua speechlessly, and Lin Yuehua blinked and looked at him.

"This is all I have on me." Lin Yuehua pulled out her Nanjing University meal card from her pocket and said innocently, "It probably won't work."
