Pokémon's Lord of Fear
Chapter 516 Kayako Walkthrough
While Teng Shu was busy filming a movie and preparing for his future retirement, he encountered some troublesome problems. However, calling them minor problems wasn't quite accurate; they were more like some rather troublesome issues. He discovered that his employee contract had some issues. Of course, these problems weren't unsolvable for Teng Shu, but they were relatively complicated. Thinking about this, Teng Shu sighed, but still decided to deal with it. After all, this new employee contract belonged to Kawamata Naoko, Kayako's sister, the unlucky exorcist. Although she wasn't from the same timeline as Kayako, she seemed to have been affected by it as well.
After the call connected, Teng Shu was bombarded with messages. Looking at the dissatisfied Kawamata Naoko, Teng Shu was somewhat amused and exasperated. He now understood why this had happened. It turned out that Naoko had always harbored resentment about being killed by her sister, but after becoming an evil spirit, she had to admit that she was no match for Kayako. Kayako's death was too tragic, leaving behind a very strong resentment. She was now a vengeful spirit, so Naoko naturally couldn't defeat her. Although Naoko was a powerful Onmyoji with considerable strength, that was all in the past, and she hadn't made any preparations for becoming a demon in the future. This meant that Naoko couldn't defeat Kayako and had to find another way to resolve the issue.
In an old apartment building on the outskirts of Tokyo, residents have recently been feeling inexplicably uneasy. Strange footsteps echo in the corridors at night, bathroom faucets turn on for no reason, and food in the refrigerator mysteriously disappears. Even more frightening, some claim to have seen a disheveled woman standing by their beds in the middle of the night, while others have seen another woman in a white dress silently watching them. The culprit behind all this is the vengeful spirits of two deceased women—Kayako Saeki and Naoko Kawamata. They were sworn enemies in life, and even in death, they could not reconcile. They even decided to settle their differences by intimidating the apartment residents. However, their contest ended in an unexpected "draw," which even led to a reconciliation between them in some way.
Although both Kayako and Naoko are incarnations of Ju-on, their personalities are completely different. Kayako is gloomy and twisted, enjoying torturing her prey in a slow and eerie way, while Naoko is more direct, preferring to appear suddenly and create frights. Even after death, the two cannot tolerate each other's presence and often argue in the spirit world. "You always scare people with that disgusting way, it's utterly boring!" Naoko complained, her voice echoing in the spirit world with a hint of impatience. Kayako sneered, "At least my method is more effective. Those people are tormented to the point of mental breakdown by my resentment, while you? You just suddenly jump out and scare people, how superficial!"
Neither of them would concede defeat, so they decided to have a "contest" to determine who was the more terrifying vengeful spirit. The rules were simple: each would choose an apartment building and use various methods to frighten the residents, but without actually harming anyone. Whoever frightened the most people would win. Kayako chose an old apartment building on the outskirts of Tokyo, a sparsely populated and eerie place perfect for unleashing her vengeful energy. Naoko, on the other hand, chose the opposite side of the same building. They decided to act independently and not interfere with each other. Kayako began her operation first. She silently infiltrated residents' homes, wandering the corridors with slow footsteps. Occasionally, she would push open a door late at night, stand quietly by their bedside, and stare at them with empty eyes. Her presence was extremely strong; residents often woke up in the middle of the night to find their rooms unusually cold, with Kayako standing in the corner, a strange smile on her lips.
Naoko took a more direct approach. She would suddenly open the bathroom door while residents were showering, or knock on their doors late at night, and then quickly disappear. Sometimes she would leave strange marks in the refrigerator, such as drawing distorted patterns on the freezer with her fingers, or leaving a sticky feeling on the residents' food. The residents of the 3rd apartment building quickly fell into panic. Some claimed to have seen a disheveled woman standing by their bed, some found that the bathroom faucet was turned on for no reason in the middle of the night, and some found that their food had been touched by unknown objects. Even more terrifying, some people even heard low whispers, as if someone was murmuring curses in their ears.
The residents began sharing their experiences, trying to uncover the truth. Some believed the apartment building was haunted, while others suspected it was a prank. However, no matter how they investigated, they couldn't find any reasonable explanation. Kayako and Naoko fought their own battles, neither willing to give in. Kayako preferred to torment the residents in a slow and twisted way, while Naoko liked to suddenly appear and create frights. Their styles were completely different, but the effects were equally remarkable. As time went on, their contest gradually intensified. Kayako began to try more complex methods, such as creating terrifying scenes in the residents' dreams or making them hallucinate when they were awake. Naoko, on the other hand, became bolder, even making brief appearances during the day to make the residents mistakenly believe they were hallucinating.
The residents' panic reached its peak. Some began to move out of the apartment building, while others were too afraid to sleep at night, fearing that they would see the two terrifying figures the moment they closed their eyes. The apartment building management office also received numerous complaints, but no matter how they checked, they could not find anything unusual. Kayako and Naoko both believed they had won the contest. Kayako thought her method was more effective because the residents were not only afraid but also deeply tormented. Naoko, on the other hand, thought her method was more direct because the residents were often terrified by her sudden appearances. However, when the two finally tallied their "scores," they found that their "achievements" were almost equal. Kayako had frightened most of the residents, but Naoko had also successfully plunged many into panic. Neither of them could claim to have won, and they could only helplessly admit to a draw.
“It seems our strengths are evenly matched,” Kayako said coldly. Naoko shrugged. “Yeah, but this contest was quite interesting.” The two exchanged a glance and suddenly realized that their hostility towards each other seemed to have lessened considerably. Although they still disliked each other, at least in this contest, they had both demonstrated their strength and acknowledged each other’s power. In the end, Kayako and Naoko decided to end the contest. They returned to the spirit world and stopped disturbing the residents of the apartment building. The residents’ panic gradually subsided. Although someone still occasionally claimed to have seen strange figures, the frequency had greatly decreased. The apartment building management still couldn’t explain everything, but they decided not to investigate further. After all, as long as the residents were no longer severely frightened, they would turn a blind eye.
Although Kayako and Naoko are still vengeful spirits, their relationship seems to have undergone a subtle change. They still quarrel in the spirit world, but at least they are no longer as irreconcilable as before. Perhaps, one day in the future, they might even find a new way to get along. However, for the residents of the apartment building, this bizarre experience will become a nightmare they can never forget. Every time the night is quiet, they will still involuntarily think of the disheveled woman and the figure in the white dress, as well as their absurd and terrifying contest. Naoko and Kayako are very dissatisfied with this ending. They feel that there should be a winner, but they don't want to harm their own family. After all, Naoko can now understand her sister's pain, and Kayako feels guilty when she looks at her dead sister, because things shouldn't have turned out this way.
In this world, Kayako hasn't killed her sister yet. After all, Kayako still has feelings for her sister; her sister was the only light in her bleak life. Back then, her sister often visited her, so Kayako was deeply moved and remembered her vividly. Even if her sister lived in the room, she wouldn't choose to harm her. However, if her life was threatened, Kayako wouldn't hold back and would choose to kill her sister by force. After all, every living being has the instinct to survive. Faced with her sister's attack, Kayako naturally wouldn't show mercy. But in this situation, Kayako didn't say much, and simply engaged in one battle after another with Naoko. This kind of life was quite interesting.
"Alright, I understand your situation, but there's nothing to argue about. The root cause of the conflict between you two sisters lies with your mother and Saeki Takeo. If your mother hadn't made Kayako consume those products possessed by evil spirits, she wouldn't have had such great potential. And if Saeki Takeo had just had a little patience..." Tengshu paused here, damn it, why is he getting angrier the more he talks? That damn Saeki Takeo, if he were him, Tengshu felt he could definitely make Kayako fall completely in love with him, and none of this would have happened. Then Kayako wouldn't have become an evil spirit, and they could have lived a normal life. Thinking of this, Tengshu was still a little angry. He thought Saeki Takeo was truly stupid, but Kayako's diary was indeed a major factor that catalyzed the conflict.
On a dark and windy night, in the desolate countryside, a sinister old Japanese house looms in the distance. The wooden door is half-open, as if an invisible hand is summoning souls. The messy footprints on the threshold tell of the unfinished fears of the ancestors. A chilling aura escapes from the crack in the door, mingling with the night wind outside to create a mournful elegy. Pushing the door open, under the dim light, the old furniture is covered in dust, as if the traces of time have been frozen here. Between the mottled cracks in the walls, it seems that there are always hidden eyes watching. Whenever someone passes by, the old wind chimes emit a jarring tinkling sound, as if vengeful spirits are telling untold stories of pain. In the depths of the corridor, the floorboards creak, accompanied by the flickering candlelight, casting distorted and grotesque shadows. Every step is drawn out, echoing in the oppressive air, intertwining with the low murmurs that occasionally come from inside the house, sending chills down one's spine.
On the tatami mat in the bedroom, dark bloodstains were etched there like an ancient curse. A pale face was faintly visible in the dim light of the lanterns, seemingly awaiting some indescribable ritual to complete its unfinished destiny. Each breath became heavy, as if the air was filled with the solidified smell of death. The bamboo grove outside the window rustled, as if plotting something. The withered bamboo leaves fluttered in the wind, like cursed ghosts searching for a chance to escape. Whenever someone tried to leave this house, they would inexplicably lose their way and eventually die tragically in some dark corner, becoming the new host of resentment. This house had become a terrifying legend in the countryside. No one dared to approach it, fearing to become the next eternal inhabitant. However, its terror continued to spread, devouring the souls of every uninvited guest, without end.
When Tengshu opened his eyes, he saw this house. Tengshu's lips twitched, and then he watched the house quickly transform into an ordinary house. But Tengshu knew that this was the house of Ju-on, the place where it all began. The reason Tengshu was here was because his recent mental activity triggered a strange mission, which led him here to demonstrate his abilities and see how far he could redeem Kayako. Tengshu admitted he was confused, but his rebellious spirit kicked in. Saving Kayako? No big deal! He'd come! Then Tengshu enthusiastically tidied his clothes. He was essentially playing a game, controlling Saeki Takeo, since he couldn't disrupt the overall storyline.
So Tengshu didn't have any obsessive-compulsive tendencies. In fact, he was quite excited because he was currently playing a super realistic game, a one-to-one recreation of the original. Naturally, he was very interested in it. However, he didn't know what would happen next. He could only try his best, and if it didn't work out, he would have to deal with the rest later. Thinking about this, Tengshu shook his head and turned back to playing the game seriously. He wanted to win over Kayako and change the storyline of Ju-on, turning the whole story around. This step, in fact, was quite difficult. (End of Chapter)
