Chapter 23 Liu Dazhuang Steals Things
“Su Xiaoxiao, you…” Li Dongmei said, spitting out the dust from her mouth.

"Master, hurry up and get them!"

She couldn't beat Su Xiaoxiao herself, so she instigated Li Dazhuang to go and beat Su Xiaoxiao. Although Su Xiaoxiao was very hungry, it didn't stop her from beating people. She didn't hold back at all.

Liu Dazhuang had suffered a lot at Su Xiaoxiao's hands and been beaten countless times. Now, seeing his wife being beaten so badly by Su Xiaoxiao, he was eager to rush over, but he stood there for a long time and didn't dare to come over.

He whispered to Li Dongmei, "I think we should just give up. They don't want to give us tiger bones, and it's not right for us to keep asking. Let's go, let's get out of here quickly."

As he spoke, he grabbed Li Dongmei and ran outside together.

"You coward!"

Li Dongmei cursed her husband Liu Dazhuang as she walked.

Su Xiaoxiao watched their retreating figures and spat on the ground.

"Pooh!"

“You are my children’s uncles and aunts, yet you spend all day thinking about what to do with us, or even trying to sell me and my children. You’re worse than animals.”

Su Xiaoxiao cursed for a while at the door, then went back to eat when she got tired.

This was the first time Su Xiaoxiao had ever cursed so freely, and all the frustration in her heart vanished instantly.

After returning to the room, he ate an extra bowl of rice.

"If your uncle and his family ever try to come to our house again and touch our things, I'll ransack their house!"

Su Xiaoxiao reminded her two children that they must never let bad people see the things in the house, especially the things hidden under the water tank.

Su Xiaoxiao hid several pounds of flour and cured meat under the water vat, and she kept the silver she got from exchanging the tiger skin separately at the very bottom of the cabinet. These things were the most important items in the house and couldn't be taken away.

Saburo was physically weak. He could hear the fighting outside from inside the room and wanted to come out to see what was happening, but it wasn't convenient for him.

Seeing that he tried to get up several times, Su Xiaoxiao quickly went in and pressed him down.

"It's nothing, they're just a bunch of boring people. You can continue lying down!"

"You're not hurt, are you?"

Saburo's eyes were full of concern.

"Oh, I'm fine, it's nothing."

Su Xiaoxiao patted the dust off her clothes and said to Sanlang, "The rabbit meat tonight wasn't really to your liking, was it? Wait for me, I'll go cook you a new dish."

"No, I haven't eaten because I was worried about you. This food is just what I like. I'll eat it right now to show you."

After saying that, Saburo began to eat very large bites.

Su Xiaoxiao was very satisfied. "That's right. Only by eating more can your body recover properly."

After the meal, Su Xiaoxiao immediately brought over a bowl of herbal soup, saying, "Drink it quickly."

Sanlang can now sit up on his own without Su Xiaoxiao's help.

In a few more days, I might be able to get up and move around, and by then my body should have recovered.

Su Xiaoxiao tidied up the house a bit more. She remembered that the original owner never cleaned the house, so this time she cleaned the house thoroughly, inside and out.

After tidying up the main house, Su Xiaoxiao noticed that Da Bao and Er Bao looked a little strange, so she quickly asked, "What's wrong with you two? Your faces are all covered in grime, like little kittens. Have you been crying?"

Da Bao suddenly sniffed and said, "Yesterday we heard Granny Wang next door talking about you, saying that you took the wrong medicine and that you'll turn back to normal in a few days."

Saburo, standing nearby, looked completely bewildered, having no idea what was happening.

"Oh, don't cry. Little Bao, come here, let Mommy hug you!" With that, Su Xiaoxiao went over and hugged Little Bao tightly.

Su Xiaoxiao kissed her little cheek. "Don't worry, Mom won't become like before. People always strive for a better future; who would want to go back to the old ways? I've said it before, I'll raise you to be strong and healthy, well-fed, and I'll never allow anyone to bully you again."

Upon hearing this, Xiao Bao cried even louder.

Sanlang looked curious. He remembered what Dabao had told him: Su Xiaoxiao wasn't like this before.

"According to the children, you weren't like this before?"

Su Xiaoxiao really didn't know how to answer. After thinking for a while, she could only say, "Who hasn't made mistakes when they were young?"

"All right!"

Such an answer might be able to get away with it and explain why Su Xiaoxiao suddenly changed her personality.

However, Sanlang didn't know Su Xiaoxiao before, and he didn't know what had happened to her.

Su Xiaoxiao took the bowl of medicine from Sanlang after he finished drinking it. Judging from his current recovery, he would be able to walk in a few more days.

The medicines from Ci'an Hall are indeed expensive for a reason.

After tidying up the kang (a heated brick bed), Su Xiaoxiao lay down to sleep. This time, she had never felt so relaxed and slept exceptionally soundly.

The next day, Su Xiaoxiao turned over the soil in the vegetable garden and planted the potato, carrot, and cabbage seeds she had bought earlier.

Su Xiaoxiao felt as if she had inexhaustible energy, so she went outside and gathered some more firewood to start a fire.

Su Xiaoxiao built a shed for her cows so that they would have a place to rest.

She ran to the back mountain to dig up some wild vegetables, and was busy making a complete mess of things.

She only realized she hadn't locked her front door when she got home. Did she forget when she left?
She put down the basket in her hand and hurried into the house to see what was happening. She found Da Bao and Xiao Bao hugging each other and crying.

The winnowing basket was thrown on the ground, and the water jar used to hide things was also overturned.

The door to the inner room was open, and Sanlang, supporting himself, saw Su Xiaoxiao return.

He weakly beckoned Su Xiaoxiao inside.

"What happened, Saburo?"

"The child's uncle and aunt came over just now and searched the kitchen thoroughly. It seems they took everything that was hidden in the water tank!"

Upon hearing this, Su Xiaoxiao was furious.

She went back to the kitchen to check again and found that the several pounds of flour, three pounds of corn, and cured meat that had been hidden in the water tank were gone.

"Li Dongmei, you just wait!"

As she spoke, Su Xiaoxiao angrily grabbed the fire starter from the wall and stormed out of the house. This time, she was determined to teach that wretched woman a lesson.

Su Xiaoxiao arrived at Liu Dazhuang's door and kicked it open.

"Li Dongmei, get out here!"

Thinking of what Sanlang had told her, Li Dongmei had probably seen Sanlang when she broke into their house, and her tone was extremely rude. When Dabao tried to stop her, Li Dongmei kicked him to the ground.

This made Su Xiaoxiao even angrier, and she found it increasingly difficult to control her temper.

Li Dongmei and Liu Dazhuang were looking at the wonderful things they had acquired, and they were incredibly happy.

A sudden shout from Su Xiaoxiao outside the door startled her, as she had done something wrong.
