Chapter 387 You're Tough Enough Guy
Chapter 387 You're Tough Enough Guy
The enemy was clearly caught off guard by this sudden counterattack and was momentarily stunned. Su Hanze quickly kicked one of the enemies aside, then turned and ran towards Abiao. As he untied the ropes binding Abiao, he whispered, "Go quickly."
Ah Biao, panting, barely managed to lift his head, a hint of gratitude flashing in his eyes: "You've come."
"Stop talking nonsense." Su Hanze replied coldly, grabbed Abiao, and ran towards the exit.
Su Hanze pulled A Biao along, rushing towards the basement exit. Dim lights flickered behind them, the air thick with the damp, musty smell and lingering stench of blood. A Biao's breathing was heavy; each step seemed to drain all his strength, his body swaying as if he were about to collapse. Su Hanze gripped his arm tightly with one hand, the other holding a pistol, his eyes scanning their surroundings warily.
"Can you still walk?" Su Hanze asked in a low voice, his tone devoid of any extra emotion, only cold pragmatism.
Ah Biao gritted his teeth, nodded, and said in a hoarse voice, "I can... don't worry about me, just keep going."
Su Hanze didn't speak again, but quickened his pace. The basement stairs were narrow and steep; each step made the wooden planks creak slightly, sounding particularly jarring in the silent air. He knew that the gunshots had alerted the enemy outside, and they didn't have much time left.
Just as he reached the stairwell, a series of hurried footsteps suddenly came from the doorway. Su Hanze abruptly stopped, pushed A Biao against the wall, and gestured for him to be quiet. He himself pressed himself against the wall, held his breath, and slightly raised the muzzle of his gun, aiming it towards the stairwell.
"Where is he? What was that gunshot just now?" A rough, hoarse voice came from outside the door, sounding somewhat anxious.
"I don't know, let's go down and take a look!" another voice responded, its tone tinged with unease.
Su Hanze narrowed his eyes, quickly assessing the situation. Judging from the footsteps, there were at least three people outside, and they were already approaching the basement. He glanced down at A Biao; the man was pale and covered in cold sweat, clearly not going to last much longer.
“Listen,” Su Hanze lowered his voice and whispered in A Biao’s ear, “I’ll distract them. You find a chance to run away. Yu Xi is waiting for you at the alley entrance.”
Ah Biao's eyes widened, and he shook his head: "Are you crazy? How could you possibly do this alone..."
"Shut up." Su Hanze interrupted him, his tone as cold as ice. "I told you, I have a way."
Before A-Biao could say anything more, the person outside had already pushed open the basement door. In the dim light, three figures appeared in the doorway, each holding a weapon, the muzzles of their guns flashing in the air as they searched for their target.
Without hesitation, Su Hanze leaped out from behind the wall, aimed his gun at the enemy in front, and pulled the trigger. The gunshot exploded in the narrow space, making everyone's eardrums ache. The enemy in front fell to the ground with a thud, a cloud of blood rising from his chest. The remaining two reacted immediately, raising their guns to return fire, but Su Hanze had already used the terrain for cover, rolling behind a wooden crate to the side.
"There!" one of the enemies shouted, and gunshots rang out, bullets hitting the wooden crates and scattering sawdust everywhere.
Su Hanze gritted his teeth, quickly leaned out and fired back, hitting another enemy in the shoulder. The enemy screamed and staggered backward. Without pausing, taking advantage of the enemy's disarray, he rushed towards the stairwell, kicked away the last enemy, and pressed his pistol against the man's forehead.
"Don't move." Su Hanze's voice was deep and carried an undeniable air of authority.
The man raised his hands, his eyes filled with terror: "No...don't shoot! I didn't do anything!"
"Where is A-Biao?" Su Hanze didn't waste any words. He pressed the gun slightly, causing the man's forehead to break out in a cold sweat.
"He...he's inside, at the very back of the basement!" the man stammered, his voice trembling.
Su Hanze snorted coldly and punched the man in the chin, knocking him unconscious. He turned to A Biao and whispered, "Let's go!"
Ah Biao, struggling to stay upright, stumbled and followed. The two rushed out of the basement, the night wind carrying a biting chill. The streets were deserted, except for a few cars still parked in the distance by the warehouse entrance, their headlights flashing in the darkness like pairs of indifferent eyes.
"Where is Yuxi?" A-Biao asked, panting, his voice weak.
"Turn left at the alley entrance," Su Hanze replied, pulling A Biao quickly into the alley beside him. His eyes scanned the darkness to make sure no enemies were following.
The alley was narrow, cluttered with junk and trash cans, and filled with a stench of decay. Su Hanze supported Abiao, trying to keep him close to the wall to prevent him from collapsing from exhaustion. After a few steps, he suddenly stopped, his ears twitching slightly.
"What's wrong?" Abiao asked in a low voice, his voice tinged with unease.
“Someone’s there.” Su Hanze’s eyes darkened. He quickly pushed A Biao behind a pile of wooden crates, then crouched down and gripped his pistol tightly.
A soft footstep sounded from the end of the alley, unhurried yet carrying an unsettling rhythm. Su Hanze held his breath and, through the gaps in the wooden crate, vaguely saw a figure approaching from the alley entrance. The person wore a black trench coat and a wide-brimmed hat, their face completely hidden in shadow, and held a long knife in their hand, the blade gleaming coldly in the moonlight.
“Su Hanze.” The man suddenly spoke, his voice low and hoarse, carrying an eerie familiarity, “I know you’re here.”
Su Hanze's heart tightened, and his grip on the gun tightened slightly. He didn't respond, only gesturing for A Biao to remain silent. The man's footsteps drew closer, each step feeling like it was treading on Su Hanze's heartbeat.
"You think you can escape?" the man continued, a hint of mockery in his voice. "Hand over Ah Biao, and I might let you die a quick death."
Su Hanze gritted his teeth, countless thoughts flashing through his mind. He knew this person was no ordinary henchman; the fact that he could find them so accurately meant that the other party knew their whereabouts inside and out.
"Who sent you?" Su Hanze finally spoke, his voice low and deliberately lowered so that the other party could not accurately determine his location.
The man stopped and chuckled softly, "Guess."
"I don't have time to play games with you," Su Hanze said coldly, quietly adjusting his position, preparing to make his move.
"Oh? That's a real shame." The man said, then suddenly waved his hand, and the blade flashed in an arc in the darkness, heading straight for the direction where Su Hanze was hiding.
Su Hanze reacted with lightning speed, rolling to dodge the attack. The blade grazed the wooden crate, producing a piercing metallic clang. A crack appeared in the crate, sending splinters flying. Su Hanze seized the opportunity to fire, the bullet grazing the man's shoulder and drawing a spray of blood.
"Tsk, what a hassle." The man cursed under his breath, quickly retreating and hiding in the shadows on the other side of the alley.
Su Hanze didn't give chase. Instead, he pulled Ah Biao up and whispered, "Go, quick!"
The two stumbled out of the alley and turned into another street. The night was deep, the streetlights casting dim yellow shadows on the ground. Su Hanze could still hear the man's voice echoing in his ears; he knew they wouldn't let them go easily.
"Who is he?" A-Biao asked breathlessly, barely managing to keep up with Su Hanze's pace.
“I don’t know,” Su Hanze said coldly, “but he’s definitely not alone.”
"What do you mean?" A-Biao frowned, a hint of unease in his voice. "Someone is watching us." Su Hanze stopped, his gaze sweeping across the darkness around him. "We've been followed ever since we left the warehouse."
Ah Biao froze for a moment, a hint of fear flashing in his eyes: "You mean...we've been sold out?"
Su Hanze didn't answer, only giving him a cold glance before continuing to walk forward. A Biao's guess made his heart sink, but he refused to believe the possibility. Yu Xi was still waiting for them at the alley entrance; if they couldn't even trust her, then they truly had no way out.
A few minutes later, they finally saw Yu Xi at the alley entrance. She was leaning against a wall, pale-faced, holding a dagger in her hand, her eyes warily scanning her surroundings. Seeing Su Hanze and Abiao, she visibly relaxed, but a hint of unease remained in her eyes.
"Are you alright?" Yu Xi quickly walked over and helped the swaying Abiao.
"Everything's fine for now," Su Hanze replied briefly, his gaze sweeping over the alley behind Yu Xi. "Is anyone chasing us?"
“No.” Yu Xi shook her head. “But I heard gunshots. Are you in trouble?”
“A guy with a knife.” Su Hanze frowned. “He knows our names.”
Yu Xi's expression changed, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes: "You know the name? Then..."
"Stop asking," Su Hanze interrupted her. "We need to get out of here first."
"Where to?" Ah Biao interrupted, his voice weak. "They must have already sealed off the area."
Su Hanze remained silent for a few seconds, quickly analyzing possible escape routes in his mind. Their car was still near the warehouse, but going back now would be tantamount to walking into a trap. Leaving on foot was too risky; the enemy had clearly come prepared, and the streets were likely already filled with spies.
“Go to Old Chen’s place,” Su Hanze finally said, his tone firm.
"Old Chen?" Yu Xi frowned. "Didn't he retire from this industry a long time ago?"
“He owes me a favor,” Su Hanze said coldly. “Now it’s time for him to repay it.”
A-Biao and Yu-Xi exchanged a glance, but said nothing more. They knew that Su Han-Ze's decisions were never open to questioning. Even if they had countless doubts in their hearts, they could only suppress them for the time being.
The three quickly left the alley and headed towards the outskirts of the city. Night deepened, and the streets thinned out, broken only by the occasional sound of a car. Su Hanze walked at the front, his gun never leaving his hand, his gaze sharp as an eagle, scanning every possible corner.
After walking for about half an hour, they arrived at a dilapidated residential area. Most of the houses here were old-fashioned bungalows, with cracks crawling all over the walls, and a faint smell of coal smoke filled the air. Su Hanze led the two through a maze of turns, finally stopping in front of an inconspicuous little courtyard.
He knocked on the door, his rhythm slow and deliberate. A few seconds later, a deep voice came from behind the door: "Who is it?"
“It’s me,” Su Hanze replied briefly.
The door slowly opened, and an elderly man with gray hair stood in the doorway, wearing an old jacket, his eyes filled with wariness. He looked Su Hanze up and down, then glanced at Abiao and Yuxi behind him, frowning: "What trouble have you gotten into this time?"
"No time to explain." Su Hanze pushed open the door and walked straight in. "We need a place to hide."
The old man sighed and stepped aside to let them in: "Come in, but don't expect me to be of much help."
The room was dimly lit and simply furnished with only a wooden table, a few chairs, and a worn-out sofa. Some odds and ends were piled in the corner, and a faint smell of tobacco filled the air. The old man closed the door, locked it, and turned to Su Hanze: "Tell me, what exactly happened?"
“Someone is chasing us,” Su Hanze said briefly. “A Biao was arrested, and I just rescued him.”
The old man raised an eyebrow and looked at A-Biao: "You're a tough guy."
Ah Biao gave a wry smile, leaned back on the sofa, and panted, "Whether it gets hard or not depends on luck."
Yu Xi stood to the side, looking at the old man with a complicated expression: "Old Chen, can you really help us?"
"Help?" Old Chen sneered. "I told you long ago that I'm not getting involved in these things anymore. You've come to me just to hide in my place for a few days."
“Two days,” Su Hanze interrupted him. “We’ll leave in two days.”
Old Chen stared at him for a few seconds, his eyes filled with inquiry: "Two days? Are you sure you can hold out until then?"
"Yes." Su Hanze's tone left no room for doubt.
Old Chen shrugged, turned and walked to the corner, lifted a tattered carpet to reveal a wooden board. He pulled hard, and a hidden door appeared under the board: "Go down, it's safe down there."
Su Hanze nodded, gesturing for Abiao and Yuxi to follow. Beneath the hidden door was a narrow passage leading to a secluded basement. The basement was small but clean, with several simple beds along the walls, as well as some canned food and water.
"You all stay here and don't wander around," Old Chen said coldly from the entrance. "I don't want to cause trouble."
"Thanks," Su Hanze said briefly, helping Abiao into the basement.
The basement door slowly closed, and darkness enveloped the three of them once more. Su Hanze turned on a small lamp, its dim light illuminating A Biao's pale face. He examined A Biao's injuries and found that apart from a few bruises and abrasions, there were no fatal wounds.
"Thankfully, it wasn't a fatal injury," Su Hanze said in a low voice, handing A Biao a bottle of water.
Ah Biao took the water, took a sip, and said breathlessly, "Your marksmanship just now... was as accurate as ever."
"Stop talking nonsense and save your energy," Su Hanze replied coldly, sitting down on the bed next to him with a dark look in his eyes.
Yu Xi sat on the other side, remained silent for a while, and finally spoke: "That person with the knife... who do you think he is?"
“I don’t know.” Su Hanze’s tone remained cold and hard. “But he’s not an ordinary person.”
