Chapter 548 Fox Charges Straight Ahead
Chapter 548 Fox Charges Straight Ahead
Luo's movements were dazzling. Behind him, a bunch of mechanical arms were simultaneously performing complex procedures that seemed to require several people to complete. Eileen stared wide-eyed at him, unable to understand what was going on. After a long pause, she blurted out, "So, all these mechanical arms of yours are really just for tightening screws?"
Having "fought side by side" all this way, Luo had gotten used to the puppet's uncouth way of speaking, and at this moment he was too lazy to respond, and just continued to work.
But Eileen was never one to sit still. Seeing that the blonde elf in front of her didn't react, she rolled her eyes and came up with a new question: "Seriously, is this really necessary? You've stuffed a bunch of self-destruct bombs into your house, and a whole string of spares... If you really encounter an accident like the Dark Angels, these bombs don't seem to be of any use."
“These bombs aren’t meant to kill the Dark Angels; they’re just meant to kill us—though it would be better not to use them if possible,” Luo said without turning his head. “They’re necessary safety precautions…”
"Why?" Eileen blinked.
"what why?"
"It's already so dangerous, why do you still do it? I heard you guys are researching a bunch of weird stuff, warp and dark psionic energy. Vanguard Labs blows up two major bombs a year. You don't care about other people's lives, and you don't even care about your own..."
Luo was silent for a moment, while also feeling a little confused—for some reason, even though the red-eyed little dwarf behind her was always very rude and kept bothering her along the way, nagging and making a racket, at this moment... she really couldn't help but want to answer her question.
“Out of curiosity,” the elf finally broke the silence.
Eileen: "Huh?"
"Curiosity. I'm very curious about the world we live in—the secrets left behind by the ancient Holy Spirits, the fragmented histories and ancient technologies of various races, the stories of the deep-sea era, things beyond the world, everything that is beyond our sight and unknown. I want to see it all, it's that simple. Of course, this only applies to myself. My 'colleagues'... may have a more complex attitude towards this world."
Eileen paused for a moment, then drawled, "Wow—"
"Don't you have any curiosity?" Luo finally turned her head slightly, but her hands continued to work.
Eileen thought about it carefully, then her face suddenly lit up: "Yes, there's a folder on Yu Sheng's computer that he won't let me see. He even put a password on it. I asked C-shaped buckle to help me crack it, but he always says he's too busy. I'm so curious..."
Luo thought for a moment, then stroked his chin: "That's certainly intriguing... Could it be important research data or something? I can help you with that later..."
She had barely finished speaking when she heard a terrifying low growl, like a wild beast, coming from the side. When she looked up, she saw Hu Li staring at her with a face full of anger and threat. The fox girl's sharp teeth were showing, and flames were dancing on her tail: "Don't let outsiders touch my benefactor's things!"
“Yes, that’s a problem too,” Eileen looked up at Hu Li. “That silly fox is keeping a close eye on Yu Sheng’s things; she might really kill you.”
Luo shuddered instantly, turning back to continue her work while muttering to herself, "What kind of people are they... all acting crazy..."
Eileen didn't react to those words—normally she would have ten replies for every one person said, but at this moment, she suddenly tilted her head, a look of confusion and hesitation in her eyes.
She watched Luo's busy back and blinked, only to see that the figure turn into a strange and blurry outline—that outline was prostrate on the ground devoutly, like a devout believer, with many other similarly blurry shadows standing around it, as if they were saying something to her.
She blinked again and saw a tall tower floating in the depths of the void. She was crawling on that tower, surrounded by many strange shadows that were giving her instructions.
Eileen looked up in confusion.
Towering temple pillars surrounded the area, and the high walls and banners were covered with spiderweb-like reliefs and patterns. A voice, hoarse and deep, came from somewhere: "Lord, the mass of the universe is insufficient..."
Eileen shook her head vigorously. Her vision went beyond the temple gates, and she saw a figure standing there, gripping her hand, his voice filled with indignation and strangely familiar: "It's come to this, how could this be..."
Eileen paused for a moment, then suddenly burst into laughter: "Yu Sheng..."
"All done!" Luo's voice came from the side, sounding relieved. "The last one! Once this is dismantled, we won't have to worry about the large shield being blown up..."
"Okay, then it's time to go find Yu Sheng!" Eileen struggled to free herself halfway from Hu Li's embrace, saying excitedly, and then pointed in a certain direction, "We need to go this way!"
"Huh?" Luo was stunned for a moment. "Didn't you say we'd evacuate after dismantling the space station's self-destruct mechanism? You said Mr. Hunter could open the door and go back by himself..."
“But the plan has changed. Yu Sheng is nearby right now,” Eileen interrupted Luo without any politeness. “We’re going to go find him.”
Hu Li and Luna nodded in agreement upon hearing this; it was only on this matter that they could quickly reach a consensus with the noisy Eileen.
Luo's expression was somewhat subtle and conflicted. She looked around at the severely damaged space station, its interior completely unsuitable for ordinary people to live in. She just wanted to get away from this place where new dangers could appear at any moment, but after hesitating for a few seconds, she gritted her teeth and said, "Alright, I'll go with you..."
But to her surprise, Eileen tilted her head and asked, "Why are you following along?"
The little doll spoke, pointing to herself and Luna and Huli beside her: "I have a bunch of spare bodies. C-Hook has some kind of teleportation skill that lets her automatically teleport to her iron coffin when she's injured, and she's incredibly resilient. And this one over here... Yu Sheng was worried this silly fox would get stuck somewhere and unable to go home, so he stuffed over two hundred teleportation cards and several prefabricated doors into her tail. If the three of us encounter danger, we can just turn around and go home—why are you joining in?" Huli nodded vigorously, then kindly reminded Luo, "If you die, you're really dead..."
Luo opened his eyes wide and opened his mouth as if to say something, but before he could speak, he saw several mass-produced Eileens curled up on Hu Li's tail jump to the ground. One of them walked over and waved to him, directly opening a spatial rift out of thin air. Accompanied by a dizzying spatial rotation, the doll's body also quickly reassembled, turning into a slightly trembling door in the blink of an eye.
Luo stared in disbelief, and subconsciously stammered, "Wait, wait a minute..."
Before she could finish speaking, Eileen waved her hand at her: "Wait my ass! The mass-production machines only open for a very short time—"
As they were talking, several mass-produced dolls ran up behind Luo, took a few running steps, and jumped up in unison, kicking the elf several times.
"Come in you!"
Luo screamed instantly: "Wait, this thing doesn't look very stable, you bastard..."
Then she was roughly beaten into the portal by the dolls.
Eileen nestled in Hu Li's arms, clapped her hands, and a smug smile appeared on her face.
"Go find, Master?" Luna stammered from the side.
"Is our benefactor in the space station?" Hu Li looked in the direction Eileen had pointed earlier with a puzzled expression, his big ears twitching back and forth. "I couldn't find him with my divine sense."
"Well, I can't really explain it, but he's right here. He just suddenly appeared out of nowhere, probably in the direction of the lab," Eileen said quickly, waving her hand and squirming restlessly in Hu Li's arms. "He might need some help, we need to hurry..."
The little doll paused for a moment, then looked up hesitantly: "Silly fox, do you even know the way?"
"I don't recognize it, I don't remember it."
Eileen was stunned: "Hey, wait a minute! Isn't your nose always so sensitive? Isn't finding your way around one of your strengths?!"
“But that section of road kept collapsing as we walked,” Hu Li said helplessly. “And there’s exhaust fumes everywhere, it stinks, I couldn’t breathe for half an hour…”
"You let me down at this crucial moment..." Eileen was almost in tears. "I should have kept that pointy-eared girl! She definitely knows the other way!"
Hu Li's eyes darted around as she listened: "Actually, it's not a big problem."
Eileen: "Huh? What do you mean?"
Then the little doll saw Hu Li hugging her while confirming the general direction of the laboratory, and then lowering her head slightly: "Eileen, are you sure it's this direction?"
"This is the right direction... Wait, you silly fox, what are you going to do?"
Hu Li bent down, lowered his head, and took a slight step back, preparing to start running.
Eileen finally screamed, "You big idiot fox, what are you going to do—"
"boom!"
A loud explosion propelled by foxfire interrupted the doll's next words. The fox-spirit girl smashed through the nearest wall with a fiery fox headbutt and headed straight for the laboratory. This was followed by a series of explosions and the deafening sound of metal tearing apart. The scene was one of towering flames and earth-shattering tremors, with only the faint, almost inaudible screams of the little doll interspersed among them.
"Mom, put me down first... Oh crap... Oh crap, that's a beam... I want to go home! I don't want to play... Ahh, you big silly fox—"
Luna stood there watching Huli crash through the wall and run away. She had been trying to speak but couldn't get the words out since earlier. She raised her hand and waved several times before finally stammering out a few words: "I, I actually, have, have pathfinding skills... never mind."
Most of the space station's internal partitions weren't particularly strong, and moments later, accompanied by a path of blazing foxfire running from the outer edge of the station straight to its core, the last internal wall was rapidly melted and smashed through. Hu Li, head down, rushed into the laboratory, and then Eileen shouted, "Stop! Stop! The wall! We're there! The wall—"
Amidst the little doll's desperate screams, Hu Li slammed his head against the tall black wall that now filled the entire laboratory.
This can't be bumped.
"Ow ooh..."
