Chapter 84 Special Care in Prison
Chapter 84 Special Care in Prison
After being busy for several days, Hawke gave Edward a day off so that he could sleep in.
But just as the sun rose, there was a sound of knocking on the door downstairs.
Hawke put on shorts and a T-shirt and looked down from the second-story window.
Old man Frank was like a beggar begging on the door, holding an ashtray filled with change and banging on the door.
Hawke shouted downstairs, "Wait a few minutes."
Frank raised his middle finger towards the second floor.
Hawke quickly washed up, went downstairs to open the door, and took out a 10-cent coin from his pocket, threw it into the ashtray, and said, "I've got the money."
Frank pretended not to hear, squeezed into the door, put down the ashtray, went to the refrigerator, took out a can of beer, opened it, took a big sip, and burped with pleasure.
Hawke asked, "You came here to bang on the door so early in the morning. What's the matter?"
"I haven't seen you for a few days. You don't run in the morning and don't turn on the lights at night." Frank rummaged through the refrigerator and found the sausages Hawke had just bought yesterday. He sat on the sofa and tore open the package with his mouth. He said, "I think you bastard might have been killed. I came to see if you are dead, so I can help you call a hearse."
Hawke went over and grabbed the sausage: "Thank you." He deliberately pressed a few times on the shelf: "I'm going to power up the sofa."
Frank didn't want to get into trouble, so he jumped up and shouted angrily: "I mean well, don't be ungrateful."
"I appreciate it. I can't thank you enough." Hawke threw another sausage to him and said, "I've been busy with a business recently and stayed in Orange County for a while."
Frank took a bite of sausage and asked: "Why are your sausages so delicious?"
Hawke said, “Because it’s free.”
"That makes sense." Frank found a pocket, opened the refrigerator, and put beer, sausages and other food into his pocket, while saying, "Don't turn on the power. I won't eat your food for free."
He spoke faster: "A few days ago, the four bastards who attacked your studio went through the trial. They were charged with multiple crimes including burglary, property damage and illegal possession of guns. They were sentenced to three to five years."
Hawke was a little surprised: "The procedure is going so fast?"
Frank started to brag again: "Boy, don't you want to think about who has been watching you?"
Hawke had heard someone mention in his previous life that the fastest criminal case in California took only a little over a week to complete the procedure.
Frank added, "Their confiscated property is being auctioned off, so it may take a while. You should be able to get around $3.5 in compensation."
Hawke is also particular about helping others: "When the money comes, I will buy a new RV and give it to you."
Frank was blunt: "Please register it under your studio name to deduct taxes. I can't have any property under my name."
Hawke's cell phone rang and he took it out to answer it.
Caroline called: "Didn't you say you would give me a commission today?"
"I remember." Hawke checked the time: "Meet at the Bank of America in Century City at ten o'clock."
His freshly filled fridge was ransacked by Frank, who happened to be out doing some shopping.
"I'm leaving first." Frank came to the door with a full bag, suddenly stopped, turned back, picked up the ashtray and went out.
When he reached the door, he asked, "Have you seen that LAPD chick lately?"
Hawke called: "Erica went to New York, it seems she is attending some event."
Frank is gone.
Hawke changed his clothes and drove to Century City.
Before ten o'clock, he saw Caroline in front of the Bank of America.
Miss Mee was wearing a white Chanel miniskirt, carrying a Hermès bag, and wearing red high heels. She walked as if she was in the wind.
She came up to Hawke, took off her sunglasses, and reminded him, "Sixty thousand dollars."
Hawke invited her into the bank, found the corresponding business manager, entered the VIP room, and completed the transfer procedures.
Coming out of the bank, Caroline said, "I'll buy you a cup of coffee."
Hawke said, “Okay.”
The two went into a nearby coffee shop and ordered a cup of coffee each.
Caroline held the spoon and stirred the coffee slowly. She said, "Steve left in a hurry last night. He is not available right now. He called me this morning and asked me to thank you on his behalf."
Hawke showed great professional ethics: "I am paid to do my job, that's what I should do."
Caroline was quite regretful: "I don't know when I will have the opportunity to make money like this again."
Hawke reminded: "It depends on whether you can find the opportunity."
Caroline was worried for a while: "I was worried when I didn't make money, and I found that I was more worried when I made money."
"You have a problem in your brain." Hawke took a sip of coffee and said, "When people are hungry, they only have one worry, but when they are full, they have countless worries, all because of being full."
Caroline was angry: "Country bumpkin, you don't understand high-level pursuits at all." She took out the money and put it on the table: "I'll pay, bye."
Hawke drank his coffee slowly.
Caroline went out, got into her red Mercedes, drove to Rodeo Drive, and parked in front of the Hermès store.
She raised her head, walked into the store, and said to the salesgirl, "Where are the new season's limited edition bags?"
The salesgirl smiled and said, "Ms. Jones, your quota is not enough."
Caroline smiled confidently: "I'm here to do some shopping today."
The salesgirl was even more enthusiastic: "This way, please."
The $60,000 she just earned gave Caroline enough confidence.
Nearly an hour later, the salesgirl took Caroline to the car, carrying four handbags.
Caroline packed up her things and went to the Chanel and Cartier in front to shop.
A refined life requires money to maintain.
On the other side, Hawke left the cafe and called Johnson: "Do you have time? Let's go to the Ater Mountain Shooting Range to play with guns."
Johnson said, "I have time tomorrow, or tomorrow."
"Okay, tomorrow." Hawke called Edward again.
The latter said, "Boss, the gun license class will have to wait a little while. I have important matters to attend to." Hawke did not force him: "You go ahead and do your thing first."
…………
Brentwood School, a private elementary school.
Edward drove a second-hand commercial vehicle and followed a Bentley to the school gate.
Deborah parked the car, opened the back door, helped her son put on his schoolbag, and said, "Go quickly. I'll pick you up after school this afternoon."
The little boy was silent and walked into the school gate alone.
Deborah got in her car and left.
Not long after, a little boy with a schoolbag on his back quietly came out of the school and walked away along the sidewalk alone.
Edward followed closely.
The little boy came to the gate of Brentwood Park, turned in, walked along the gravel path to the artificial lake, picked up stones on the ground and threw them into the water.
He was obviously unhappy. He threw stones for a while, then took off his shoes, sat on the granite by the lake, and kicked the water with his feet.
Edward saw the opportunity, walked over quickly, and grabbed the little boy: "Hey, hey, don't play in the water here, it's dangerous."
The little boy struggled: "None of your business!"
Edward saw the schoolbag on the side and said, "Where are your parents? Or did you come here alone? Did you skip school?"
The little boy shouted, "It's none of your business."
"Tell me your parents' phone number." Edward said seriously, "You are not a student at Brentwood School, are you? If you don't tell me, I can only call the police or notify your school."
He picked up a flat stone and threw it into the water. The stone jumped seven or eight times on the water.
The little boy's eyes lit up: "Wow, you are awesome."
Edward said, "Want to learn?"
The little boy took the lead.
Edward took the opportunity to say, "Tell me your name and your parents' contact information."
"My name is Indio Donny. Will you promise to teach me?"
"I promise."
Edward got a phone number and called: "Hello, ma'am, I saw your son Indio by the artificial lake in Brentwood Park."
Ten minutes later, Deborah hurried to the lakeside of the park and found her son playing skipping stones with a black boy.
The two of them were talking and laughing, and got along really well.
Deborah paused for a moment. Her son hadn't been this happy in a long time since Donnie died.
Edward saw Deborah, patted Indio on the shoulder and pointed over there.
The smile on Indio's face disappeared instantly, he picked up his schoolbag and walked towards this side.
Edward waved at him and turned to leave.
"Sir," Deborah called him, "thank you for your call."
Edward smiled and said, "It's okay. I'll go this way and just run into Indio."
The little boy tugged at Deborah's clothes and said, "Mom, can I play here for a while longer?" He looked at Edward eagerly and said, "You promised to teach me, but I haven't learned it yet."
Deborah hadn't seen her son so happy for a long time. She nodded slightly and looked at Edward: "Sir, can I delay you for a moment?"
Edward said, "I will definitely do what I promised."
Indio took him to the lake to skip stones.
Deborah stood by and accompanied him.
Edward used Indio as a medium and quickly became familiar with Deborah. Before leaving, the two even exchanged contact information.
Indio made an appointment with Edward to come here again on the weekend.
Deborah agreed for her son's sake.
Edward took the first step towards success.
…………
Santa Clara County, San Jose Jail.
Henry, whose arms were covered with tattoos, came out from the prison and got into a Cherokee parked on the side of the road.
Pedro, the driver, asked, "How are Luis and Puyol doing in there?"
Henry buckled his seat belt: "The four of them received special care."
Pedro misunderstood: "You're doing OK?"
"The news I got is correct. The West Coast Studio has a special relationship with the LAPD." Henry sighed, "Louis and the others are all in the same cell with black people. When those old black people get angry, they don't care about anything."
He pounded on the car door: "There are two black men who torment them every night!"
Pedro's eyes widened in shock: "God Jesus!"
Henry said, "Let's go back to Los Angeles." He thought for a moment and ordered, "Louis and the others have taken all the blame and are not implicated in the gang. Go back and get some of the money and send it to their families."
Pedro started the car and asked, "They are treated like this, why don't we help them get justice?"
"Get justice?" Although Henry is not the leader of the Shorty Gang, he is also a senior member. He is certainly not a fool to have made it to this point. "To be honest, this matter is about the West Coast Studio and Fox Channel 11. The former colluded with the LAPD, which directly led to Louis and his men drinking beer and milk every day. The latter... that's Fox. They can kill us with just a breath!"
Pedro, a low-level brother, does not have Henry's vision and insight, and he is very loyal.
He didn't dare to kill people or cause great destruction, and Louis and others were the best lesson for him.
He didn't want to go in and have physical contact with the old blacks.
But he is very good at disgusting people.
