I am a fairy in Journey to the West

Chapter 501 The Heavenly King Loses His Composure

Mahāgater explained the whole story to Tang Sanzang and asked him how he escaped from inside.

Tang Sanzang couldn't explain it either, but said, "When the so-called Bodhisattva who blocked my way came to cut me with his sword and knife, I was very scared at first. But then I thought that after I died, my soul could return to the underworld and escape from my predicament, so I could ask for help from all directions. Just thinking this, the clouds and fog cleared up and the sky became bright, so I came out."

“I see.” Maha Jiedi nodded slightly and said, “However, the Great Sage Equaling Heaven and the four Jiedi and four Bodhisattvas are still trapped inside.”

Tang Sanzang then said, “There is a Wanfo Temple inside. There are many false gods in that temple. It is probably a den of demons. None of my disciples and the four Jiedi saw it. Only the four Bodhisattvas were trapped inside, and each of them was seriously injured.”

"What?!" Mahagateti exclaimed in surprise, "How are the four Bodhisattvas injured?"

Tang Sanzang described the injuries of the four bodhisattvas and concluded, "They appear unharmed on the outside, but their physical bodies are severely damaged, and they have lost their magical powers."

"However, apart from being unable to leave Wanfo Temple, those demons didn't make things too difficult for the four bodhisattvas," Tang Sanzang said slowly.

Mahagate said, "Even so, it is extremely dangerous for the four bodhisattvas to be trapped in the demon's lair."

At this point, Mahāgateṣṭa said to Tang Seng, "Elder Tang, you should rest here. I will immediately return to Vulture Peak and report this matter to Vairocana Buddha."

Tang Sanzang nodded and said, "Okay."

After saying this, Mahāgatedī rode away on a cloud. Tang Seng watched Mahāgatedī leave, then turned around and glanced at the village before moving away and finding a sheltered spot to sit down.

When Mahagateti returned to the main hall of Vairocana Temple on Mount Ling, he found only Vairocana Buddha sitting in the hall, while the other bodhisattvas had disappeared.

Before he could think any further, Mahagateti reported to Vairocana Buddha that the four bodhisattvas were trapped in the demon village of 'Ten Thousand Buddhas Temple'.

The Great Sun Tathagata said, "The Buddha, the demons, and the Brahmanical sect are attacking fiercely. All the Bodhisattvas have gone to resist them, and there is no one left to send here."

Mahagateti was taken aback upon hearing this, but he simply stood there without saying anything.

After pondering for a moment, Vairocana Buddha said to Mahagateti, "Go back first and protect Tang Sanzang. I have other arrangements for this matter."

Mahāgater bowed deeply and said, "I will obey your command."

After Mahagateti left, Vairocana Buddha asked the Vajra below, "Is the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King still on Vulture Peak?"

The Vajra immediately replied, "Reporting to the World Honored One, he is still here."

The Great Sun Buddha said, "Quickly invite the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King to come here for an audience."

Vajra bowed deeply and said, "As you command."

Not long after, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King arrived at the Vairocana Temple. He was sent by the Jade Emperor to retrieve Buddhist scriptures from Mount Ling and to bestow them upon the Buddhas on behalf of the Jade Emperor.

This is because every so often, the Buddhas would present Buddhist scriptures to the Jade Emperor, and no matter what kind of scriptures appeared in Buddhism, the Jade Emperor would read them first.

Whenever the Buddhas offered Buddhist scriptures, the Jade Emperor would reward them. This time, the one who came on behalf of the Jade Emperor to retrieve the Buddhist scriptures and reward the Buddhas was none other than the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King.

The Great Sun Buddha informed the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King about the Wanhua Ridge. After listening, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King immediately said, "Please rest assured, Great Sun Buddha, I will report this matter to the Great Heavenly Venerable as soon as I return, and ask the Great Heavenly Venerable to send heavenly soldiers and generals down to the mortal realm to capture the demons and rescue the trapped pilgrims and bodhisattvas."

Upon hearing this, the Great Sun Buddha immediately put his palms together and said, "In that case, this humble monk thanks the Heavenly King."

The Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King quickly returned the greeting, saying, "I dare not, it was nothing, how could I accept such a great greeting from the Buddha?"

Afterwards, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King bid farewell to the Great Sun Buddha and returned to the Heavenly Court with the scriptures.

Upon returning to Heaven, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King immediately went to the Hall of Brightness to report to the Jade Emperor and inform him of the events at Wanhua Ridge.

Upon hearing this, the Jade Emperor said, "In that case, I hereby order you, Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King, to lead Ma, Zhao, Wen, Guan, and the Thunder Department generals down to subdue the demons."

The Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King bowed and said, "Your subject obeys the decree."

Then, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King led the four marshals Ma, Zhao, Wen, and Guan, along with the generals of the Thunder Department, down to the mortal realm in a grand procession. Meanwhile, the Thunder Department of the Heavenly Court dispatched official documents to Buzhou Mountain for record-keeping, in preparation for future verification.

Meanwhile, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King, leading his heavenly soldiers and generals, arrived at Wanhua Ridge. Standing atop a cloud, he waved his command flag and said, "This order is sent to the Jade Maiden of the Snow Department to command her to stop the snow."

A decree was issued directly to the Snow Department. Upon receiving the decree, the Jade Maiden of Azure Clouds, who was in charge of snowfall, immediately stopped the snowfall within a hundred miles of Wanhua Ridge.

Then, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King took out a command flag and said, "This command activates the Wind Department to stop the wind."

A moment later, all the wind within a hundred miles of Wanhua Ridge ceased.

As the snow stopped and the wind died down, the sky cleared and the world was bathed in light.

Maha Jiedi, who was with Tang Sanzang below, saw this scene and immediately came forward. Upon seeing that it was Li Jing, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King, he hurriedly bowed and said, "This humble god greets Li Jing, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King."

The Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King returned the greeting with clasped hands and asked, "Where is that demon?"

Mahāgateti quickly pointed to the village below and said, "It's in that demon village."

The Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King immediately ordered: "Heavenly soldiers and generals, heed my command, attack the demon village at once!"

Then, the four marshals Ma, Zhao, Wen, and Guan, the five marshals Deng, Xin, Liu, Bi, and Pang, the four heavenly kings, the twelve heavenly thunder generals, and the eight directions of cloud thunder generals all received their orders.

In an instant, divine banners fluttered, thunderclouds gathered, and countless heavenly soldiers and generals besieged the small village.

Seeing this, Tang Sanzang immediately stood up from the campfire, and Maha Jiedi returned to tell Tang Sanzang, "Elder Tang, do not worry, the Heavenly Court has sent the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King to subdue the demon."

Upon hearing this, Tang Sanzang immediately smiled and said, "That's good, that's good."

The two then stood together, watching as the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King led his heavenly soldiers and generals to attack Wanhua Ridge Village.

When celestial soldiers and generals take action, it is naturally extraordinary; thunder and lightning strike, and the wind and clouds surge.

In just a moment, a huge crack was cleaved open at the entrance of Wanhualing Village. The Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King took the lead, and the four marshals Ma, Zhao, Wen, and Guan rushed in first.

This time was different from before. With a crack split open at the village entrance, people outside could finally see what was happening inside the village.

After the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King led his heavenly soldiers and generals inside, Tang Sanzang and Maha Jiedi could also see the figures of the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King and his heavenly soldiers and generals outside.

"It's done!" Maha Jieti exclaimed with delight, "The barrier around the demon village has been broken; now we need heavenly soldiers and generals!"

But Mahageti quickly realized that this might not be quite right, so he added, "There is strength in numbers."

At this moment, inside the village, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King ordered his heavenly soldiers and generals to surround all the houses, and with a final command, they broke down all the doors and entered.

The Four Heavenly Kings burst through the door, and then a huge wild boar, as large as a small mountain, charged towards them.

The Four Heavenly Kings were shocked. In their first encounter, they were sent flying by the wild boar. Seeing this, Ma Tianjun quickly flew to their side. He formed a sword finger with his hand, and the third divine eye on his forehead suddenly opened. Golden light burst forth from that divine eye, and the rampaging wild boar was instantly struck as if by a blow to the head, before crashing heavily to the ground.

Then the Four Heavenly Kings rushed forward and used their respective methods to subdue the wild boar. Afterwards, Ma Tianjun drew his sword and prepared to kill the wild boar.

Just then, a voice came from afar, "Ma Tianjun, spare his life!"

Upon hearing this voice, Ma Tianjun paused, his sword hanging in mid-air. He turned his head and saw Tang Sanzang rushing over. When Tang Sanzang reached him, he hurriedly said, "Ma Tianjun, spare his life!"

Ma Tianjun frowned and looked at Tang Sanzang, saying, "Elder Tang, do you know this demon?"

Tang Sanzang pointed to the wild boar with fierce eyes in front of him and said, "This looks like my third disciple, Zhu Bajie. I have seen his true form before."

“Pigsy?” Ma Tianjun was taken aback for a moment, then looked at it carefully and said, “If it really is Pigsy, then he must be under some kind of evil spell.”

After saying that, Ma Tianjun pointed his sword at the divine eye between his eyebrows and wiped it. The next moment, the divine eye emitted a divine light, instantly enveloping Zhu Bajie in the divine light.

The next moment, a plume of black smoke rose from Pigsy's head. As the smoke dissipated, Pigsy's eyes immediately regained their clarity, and after a short while, he returned to his original appearance.

Pigsy, who had transformed back to his original form, plopped down on the ground. Tang Sanzang quickly stepped forward and asked, "Pigsy, are you alright?"

"Master?!" Pigsy exclaimed upon seeing Tang Sanzang, then complained, "Master, I told you this village was strange, but you wouldn't believe me, causing me so much suffering!!"

Upon hearing this, Tang Sanzang said with a face full of shame, "Bajie, it's all my fault."

Just then, Guangmu Tianwang noticed that there were still people in the room where Zhu Bajie had been, so he called out. The four Jiedi inside saw that there were heavenly soldiers and generals standing outside, and only then did they dare to come down from the roof beam.

Maha Jieti had come with Tang Sanzang, and upon seeing the four Jieti, he quickly went to greet them.

"So you were here?" Mahāgateti asked in surprise.

The monk looked around and asked, "Where is that wild boar?"

Maha Jiedi pointed at Zhu Bajie, and the four Jiedi were greatly surprised, "It's him?"

Mahāgatedī nodded and said, "Pigsy was under a spell and his mind was clouded, which is why he reverted to his original form and became violent."

The four Jiedi rolled their eyes. What could they do? They could only accept their bad luck.

At this moment, as soon as Pigsy saw the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King, he immediately stepped forward to complain, saying that the Fairy of the Moon Palace had come to seek revenge on him, and that it was the Fairy of the Moon Palace who had ambushed him.

Upon hearing this, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King was greatly alarmed. A fairy from the Moon Palace had descended to the mortal realm? This was a momentous matter, so he asked, "Where is she?"

So Pigsy led the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King to the outside of the house, and Pigsy said, "It's in this house."

The Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King looked at the house whose door had been broken open. It was pitch black inside, and the heavenly soldiers and generals around him were afraid that there was danger inside, so they had not yet gone in to check.

The Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King selected two heavenly generals and ordered them to go in and investigate.

The two heavenly generals acknowledged the order and rushed into the house, but the next moment they flew out and crashed heavily to the ground.

"What happened?" asked the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King.

The two heavenly generals groaned in pain and sat on the ground, saying, "Your Majesty, there was a powerful man inside. We didn't even see who he was before we were beaten out."

"Oh?" Upon hearing this, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King immediately drew his sword. He held the pagoda in his left hand and the sword in his right, saying, "This general wants to see what kind of monster dares to be so arrogant."

After saying this, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King strode in with imposing steps.

As soon as the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King stepped into the house, he felt a gentle breeze around him, and then his left hand felt light.

The Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King looked down at his left palm and was shocked to find that the pagoda that had been on his left palm had disappeared without him noticing.

Just then, another fierce shout came from ahead: "Old thief, prepare to die!"

Upon seeing Nezha, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King's pupils constricted, and he exclaimed in surprise, "Nezha?! What are you doing here?"

However, Nezha had already reached him, piercing his throat with the Demon-Slaying Sword, splitting his head with the Demon-Slaying Blade, smashing his chest with the Demon-Subduing Pestle, binding his hands and feet with the Demon-Binding Rope, grinding the embroidered ball over his body, and spewing flames from the Fire Wheel, burning his entire body to a crisp.

The Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King let out a scream, then panicked and scrambled out of the house.

Those outside only saw that it was pitch black inside and had no idea what had happened. They only knew that not long after Li Jing went in, he scrambled out in a sorry state.

Marshals Ma, Zhao, Wen, and Guan quickly went up to support the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King, while Deng, Xin, Liu, Bi, and Pang quickly stood guard around him.

"Li Tianwang, what happened? What's inside?" Zhao Gongming asked while supporting Li Tianwang.

As the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King's rapid breathing gradually subsided and he regained his composure, he asked, "Where is my pagoda?"

Upon seeing this, everyone was shocked to realize that the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King's pagoda was gone, and they then asked him what was inside.

Pigsy stepped forward, looking puzzled, and asked, "King Li, how could a female immortal frighten you like this?"

Li Jing, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King, glared at Zhu Bajie and said, "You're saying the person inside is the Fairy of Rainbow Skirts?"

“That’s right,” Pigsy said. “Isn’t it her?”

The Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King said, "No."

Pigsy asked, "Who is that?"

The Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King paused for a moment, then glanced left and right before finally lowering his voice to a whisper: "It's Nezha."

"Nezha, the Third Prince?" Upon hearing this, everyone exclaimed in surprise.

Some heavenly generals asked in bewilderment, "Nezha, the Third Prince, is currently planting flowers in the Milky Way. How did he end up here?"

Li Jing, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King, straightened his body, straightened his crooked armor, and said with certainty, "It is indeed Nezha inside. As soon as I went in, he stole my pagoda and tried to kill me."

"Oh"

Upon hearing this, everyone present exclaimed in realization, clearly indicating that the feud between the father and son was already common knowledge.

Seeing this, in order to save face, the Pagoda-Bearing Heavenly King immediately said sternly, "This wicked beast dares to defy the Jade Emperor's decree and descend to the mortal realm without permission! All heavenly generals, immediately follow me into the mortal realm, seize this wicked beast, and bring him back to the Heavenly Court for punishment!" (End of this chapter)
