Chapter 582 An enemy suddenly appeared, Mortarian??
Before the ashes of Skabrand had even settled, Saint Gilles had already taken flight to the next battlefield.
His golden wings shimmered amidst the smoke of battle, each flap unleashing a sacred storm that corroded and purified the surrounding chaos.
After evolving Skabrand, the great enemy of the Holy Blood Angel, the Archangel was in an unprecedentedly good mood.
On the other side of the battlefield, Lemanrus had completely unleashed the power of Ulffaya, transforming into a hundred-meter-tall fiery giant wolf.
He wreaks havoc among Nurgle's corrupted legions, his claws tearing apart plague warriors, his fiery breath burning Nurgle spirits to ashes.
"Haha! That's more like it!" The wolf king laughed wildly, smashing the head of a Chaos Lord with a single claw.
Wolf King charged into the Chaos Space Marine phalanx as if it were empty, pouncing directly on a massive Chaos Titan and violently dismantling it.
Countless Chaos Space Marines screamed as they were torn to pieces by the giant wolf that Lemanus had transformed into. Some Chaos Space Marines who had gained the ability to grow to gigantic size also wanted to join the battle, but their height of about 50 meters seemed rather short in front of a fire wolf that was 100 meters tall.
Lemanus's massive claws swung and instantly tore apart a gigantic Chaos Space Marine, while the Space Wolves behind him roared in support of their Gene Father!
On the smoke-filled battlefield of Cadia, Saint Gilles hovered in mid-air, his golden wings unfurled, each feather radiating a pure light. He looked down at his brother, who had transformed into a giant fiery wolf, a satisfied smile playing on his lips.
"Looks like you don't need my help, Old Wolf."
Just like himself, Lemanrus was also venting his emotions after being away from the empire for ten thousand years; he needed a massacre now.
The giant wolf, hundreds of meters tall, raised its head and let out a long howl that shook the heavens and the earth. Its eyes, burning with ghostly blue flames, gazed at the Chaos Space Marines, Chaos Demons, and Chaos Titans in the distance—all of them were its prey.
The wolf king's roar was like rolling thunder, and its front paws slammed heavily on the ground, causing the entire battlefield to tremble.
Before dozens of plague warriors could react, they were thrown about by the shockwave.
Their bloated bodies were covered in burst pustules, splattering yellowish-green putrid fluid everywhere, but they could not extinguish the raging fire burning on Lemanrus's body.
"For the Emperor! For Fenris!" The giant wolf roared as it charged into the enemy ranks, leaving only ashes in its wake.
His claws easily tore open the Plague Mech's shell, crushing the pilot inside along with the corrupted machinery.
With a sweep of its tail, the entire row of Nurgle sprites burst open like rotten fruit.
Saint Gilles smiled and shook his head, brandishing his golden longsword. Before the three Plague Fly Knights who attempted to ambush him could even get close, they were cleaved in two by the holy sword light, their corrupted bodies turning to ashes in mid-air.
The mighty wolf king Lemanus, representing the ice and snow Lemanus, is now wielding a fiery power, which is quite interesting.
However, the wolf king, with his volatile temper, is not actually suited to the power of frost; the fierce power of flames is more suitable for Lemanus to utilize.
"Russ, let's fight side by side once again!" Saint Gilles shouted.
Lemanrus did not turn around, but responded to his brother with a wolf howl.
The enormous wolf tail lashed out to the left like a whip, sending a Chaos Champion wielding a plague sword flying hundreds of meters.
The Chaos Champion crashed through three dilapidated city walls before stopping, its body twisted beyond recognition. Even if it grew to a gigantic size, what difference would it make?
You are still tiny in front of me, die, you chaotic scum!
"Ha! These maggots aren't even warming up!" The Wolf King laughed wildly, spewing out scorching flames that burned an entire squad of Death Guards who tried to surround him to charcoal.
The screams of the Plague Warriors rose and fell, their proud regenerative abilities rendered useless against the Fenris Holy Fire, and the power of the Cosmic Beasts exerted a tremendous restraint on the Chaos Will.
Saint Gilles hovered above the center of the battlefield, holding his sword above his head with both hands. A dazzling light burst forth from the sword, illuminating the entire battlefield.
"In the name of the Emperor, purify these evil, chaotic traitors!" the archangel cried out, and divine energy spread out like ripples.
Any Nurgle demon that came into contact with this light let out a shrill scream, its body melting away like snow under the sun. Saint Gilles' golden wings unfurled, releasing holy flames.
On the ground, Leman Russ seized the opportunity and leaped hundreds of meters into the air, directly attacking the plague artillery array behind the enemy lines.
The massive body caused a small earthquake when it landed, crushing the six plague cannons into scrap metal before they could even fire.
The giant wolf opened its blood-red maw, bit down on a plague cannon that was charging, and ripped it off its base. Then it swung it at the surrounding enemies like a club.
With a huge cannon barrel in his mouth, he kept swinging it and smashing it at the Chaos Space Marines around him. Lemanus was on all fours, running wildly across the ground.
This fighting style, reminiscent of a mad dog, prompted Rhodes, who was watching from a distance, to complain.
Our Wolf King truly lives up to his title as the King of Huskies; once he transforms into his giant wolf form, he's practically a mad dog.
"Hahaha, Saint Gilles! Let's see who kills more!" Lemanrus's voice was filled with wild joy.
This feeling was absolutely amazing; it was as if some kind of genetic lock within him had been unlocked.
The Primarch chuckled softly: "As you wish, my good brother."
The archangel folded its wings and swooped down like a meteorite, then suddenly unfolded them just before hitting the ground, creating a shockwave that sent dozens of enemies flying.
The holy sword drew a perfect arc, and the heads of seven Chaos Space Marines flew up simultaneously.
The two Primarchs roamed the battlefield, one as swift and elegant as a golden lightning bolt, the other as ferocious and raging as a fiery storm.
Their coordination was seamless: Saint Gilles cleared aerial threats and long-range fire, while Lemanrus created chaos and destruction on the ground. The numerical superiority of the Nurgle Legion was meaningless before them, and the entire army began to falter and retreat.
The two's offspring, the Holy Blood Angel and the Space Wolf, watched speechlessly as the Father of Genes was frantically slaughtering Chaos.
It seems like they're not really involved here anymore. Maybe they should go clean up the mess later? The father of genetics seems to be having a lot of fun.
Watching the two displaying their might, Horus sat comfortably to the side and began to observe the battle. However, he shared the same thought as Rhodes: the wolf king Lemanrus's wolfish demeanor truly resembled that of a mad dog.
It roared and charged forward, tearing the Chaos Titan to shreds, creating a truly comical scene.
Of course, this was from the Empire's perspective; for the Chaos, it was a different story—this was a colossal killing god. Just then, a low, eerie horn sounded from the edge of the battlefield, the earth began to tremble, and something far more powerful than any enemy they had encountered before was approaching.
Saint Gilles immediately ascended into the sky, his golden eyes narrowing slightly. "Russ, a new enemy has appeared."
He sensed an extremely powerful chaotic force and hoped for something high-quality, not something that could kill with a single sword strike.
Lemanrus crushed the last plague warrior with a single claw strike, then looked up in the direction from which the horn had sounded. "Finally, a worthy opponent has arrived."
He bared his teeth, crimson flames dancing between them.
A huge green figure slowly emerged on the horizon, riding a rotting demon dragon, wearing rusty Terminator armor, and holding a giant scythe that exuded a deadly plague.
Behind him, the Death Guard's most elite Plague Company surged forward like a tide. This figure was equally enormous, standing a hundred meters tall, and the armor he wore was all too familiar to the Primarchs.
“Motalian. This is impossible!” Saint Gilles exclaimed the name in utter shock.
How is that possible? Mortarion was already defeated by Rhodes during the Plague Wars and then captured! He's still locked up in the dungeons of Holy Terra.
Why is he here? Could it be that this isn't Mortarian?
Unlike Saint Gilles, Lemanus let out an angry wolf howl upon seeing Mortarian's figure.
"Motal, how dare you show your face before me! I will kill you today!" roared the Wolf King Lemanus.
The Death Guard's Primarch, Mortalian, the Plague Father, descended upon the battlefield. His decaying face was hidden behind a breathing mask, with only a pair of lifeless eyes visible.
"Saint Gilles Lemanrus and Horus, today I have come to end you." His voice was like a chilling wind blowing from a tomb. "The Father has sent me to give you a gift."
Mortarion raised his giant scythe, and a cloud of dark green mist spewed from the tip of the scythe, quickly spreading into a plague cloud that covered half the battlefield.
Wherever this cloud passed, even rocks began to rot and crumble, and the air was filled with the stench of death.
"Warriors of the Empire! Get out of the way!" Saint Gilles shouted a warning, while flapping his wings with all his might to climb into the sky.
However, some mortal armies and even some space soldiers around them were instantly covered in pustules after being engulfed by the plague, and their bodies began to rot, killing them with the plague.
Saint Gilles used all his divine power, and Horus also released milky-white light, which stopped the terrifying plague storm.
"You're lying. You're not Mortarion. Mortarion has already been defeated in the Plague War and even captured by us. Who are you?" Horus said with a cold snort.
"Hehehe, hahahaha! I am my own messenger, I am the terminator of the empire, I am death itself, I am the lord of plague." Mortarion's body erupted with an even more terrifying green aura.
A terrifying plague storm erupted within the Allied forces, even more ferocious than before.
Leman Russ stood still, tilting his head back and taking a deep breath, his chest bulging like a bellows.
"Damn traitor, I'll make you taste the wrath of King Fenris!" The wolf king roared, unleashing a fiery breath more intense than ever before.
The blue-white pillar of fire collided with the green cloud of mist in mid-air, triggering a series of violent explosions.
However, the withered plague breath was not ordinary poison gas; it was a subspace virus containing the power of the evil god Nurgle.
Even though the flames weakened the plague, large numbers of it still managed to penetrate the fire walls and engulf Lemanrus.
"Ruth! Retreat!" Saint Gilles shouted urgently, swooping down to try and rescue him.
The giant wolf let out a painful howl as the plague cloud reached the left side of his body.
The sacred flames began to dim, and the fur rotted and fell off at a visible speed, revealing the discolored flesh beneath.
Even more terrifying, the plague seemed to be eroding Lemanrus's divine essence; his massive body began to flicker erratically, sometimes appearing as a giant wolf, and sometimes reverting to his original form.
“No, this is impossible!” Lemanrus knelt on the ground, his voice filled with unbelievable pain. He tried to stand up again, but his left forepaw was no longer under his control.
This scene shocked both Primarchs present. When did Mortarion acquire such power? Although Ruth had only recently fused with a space monster, his strength was still far beyond that of a Primarch who had fused with a space monster.
Even the last time Mortarion was said to have been defeated by his own genetic offspring Typhons, but the power he displayed this time shocked everyone.
Mortarian let out a smug laugh: "You've fused with cosmic monsters, but this is a new plague cultivated by the Great Father, prepared especially for you by the Father."
Saint Gilles landed before Lemanrus, spreading his wings to form a barrier. "Hold on, brother," the archangel whispered.
Horus also stepped forward, transforming into a giant of light nearly 100 meters tall, radiating intense light from his entire body.
The terrifying power of light instantly suppressed the green mist in front of him, even making the wolf king Lemanrus feel much better.
"You just said this power is a plague targeting the cosmic beasts, right? Well, sorry, my power doesn't come from the cosmic beasts. I'm fundamentally different from my brothers," Horus said with a sneer.
"May the Emperor protect us," Horus prayed softly. A pure white pillar of light shot into the sky, enveloping the two Primarchs. The withered breath hissed as it touched the edge of the pillar, gradually being purified and dissipated.
A divine light illuminated the entire planet; it was a power that brought both immense light and warmth—the power of a true giant of light.
Mortarian roared in fury, "Let me reap your life, let me take you into my father's garden!"
Driving the demonic dragon forward, the giant scythe was raised high, ready to personally slay the resurrected former war commander.
"I don't know how you were resurrected, or how you escaped from Holy Terra, or whether you are a fake copy."
"But it would be a grave mistake for you to appear before me," Horus said.
"Traitor! You have betrayed the Father! The Father has given you his power."
"No, I was just correcting a mistake. I was just being used by those four guys," Horus said in his Great Form of Light, without offering any explanation.
