Chapter 453 The only chance
Chapter 453 The only chance
Isaac was even able to muster extraordinary power to fight back, but every time he was about to use his ability, the girl would forcefully interrupt him.
Soon, Isaac felt his vision blurring and he was about to faint.
Suddenly, the girl loosened her grip on his neck, and Isaac fell to the ground along the wall, leaving a trail of blood on the wall.
Isaac's eyes flickered, and his soul was about to plunge into the sea of ignorance, but the next moment, excruciating pain pulled him back.
The girl stomped his left hand into a bloody pulp.
"Where do you want to go?" Lina's smile was sinister. "To find Nora, right?"
Seeing that Isaac didn't say anything, she stomped her foot on the ground.
Isaac let out a cry of pain and nodded groaningly, "Yes! Yes! Please spare me, and I can tell you the location of the resistance!"
"I don't care about any resistance, just tell me where Nora is!"
"Nora, Nora is in the resistance! We all follow her!"
Isaac felt a sudden dizziness, and then a pair of blood-red eyes appeared in front of him, staring back at him.
The girl grabbed his hair, pulled him close to her face, and stared at him intently.
“You’re not being honest.” Her voice was soft, like a lover’s whisper. “Nora’s head has already been sent to the prince. The item isn’t on her, nor on you. Who else is in the resistance?”
Isaac's pupils shrank instantly.
Nora's head was sent to the prince? How did Lina know? Whom does she serve? And what is she looking for?
"What is it? I can find anything you want!"
Lina blinked, then suddenly said, "You don't know."
"what?"
"You don't know what it is. Then why are you here? You went to Castells first and then came here. That doesn't make sense!"
Lina stared intently at Isaac: "You paused when you saw me just now. You know me!"
Isaac remained silent, appearing as if he were about to collapse, but inwardly he was experiencing a tremendous surge of emotions.
Why does Lina feel that she shouldn't have met her?
Lina joined the Firemoths while Rhine was in the region.
Her fervent pursuit of knowledge caught the attention of the "fire-chasing moths," and she was recruited after passing the assessment—a common occurrence.
But in Castel, she slipped up and was discovered. He and Chloe were both present at the time, and when they attacked together, they only managed to capture her body, not her soul.
Isaac glanced at Lina almost imperceptibly.
Red hair, a slightly thin body, just like in Castel, why did she feel like she couldn't recognize her?
Either she's using something to disguise her appearance, but it's no longer working, or...
Considering her strange abilities and immense strength, Isaac suddenly felt a pang of unease. Was she even human?
And what was she looking for, and what did she believe she was also looking for?
Before he could analyze the situation, another sharp pain shot through his body, and Isaac cried out in agony.
The girl's face was filled with uncertain thoughts, but her feet didn't stop; she kicked Isaac's bloodied and mangled arm a few more times.
Hearing Isaac's cry of pain, she stopped, her expression returning to its usual blankness. "Forget it, I probably won't get any information out of him. I'll just see for myself."
He then reached out and lifted Isaac up.
"Please, let me go." Isaac's voice was low and slightly trembling, so sincere that it was hard to refuse him from the bottom of one's heart.
The Investigator can use persuasive language, but success depends entirely on luck. This ability is meant for investigations, but it's rather useless in combat.
But Isaac persisted and used it several times – each time he spoke, he was essentially gambling on the success rate.
My luck wasn't good today; I only succeeded this time!
A hint of hesitation flickered in Lina's eyes, but it vanished in an instant. She was about to say something with a cold smile when Isaac made the first move!
The moment a hint of hesitation crossed Lina's face, Isaac's unfocused gaze sharpened, and with his only intact hand, he drew a musket from his waist and pulled the trigger!
Lina reacted a moment too late, only noticing the muzzle of his musket and a hint of contempt in her expression.
You think a mere musket can hurt her?
A red mist appeared in Lina's eyes.
Somewhat surprisingly, no bullet flew out of the muzzle; instead, the entire musket exploded, revealing the black interior inside!
A wisp of solid contamination flew out and pounced on Lina.
Isaac endured the pain in his hand, a glimmer of expectation appearing in his eyes.
The extraordinary ability to withstand bullets cannot withstand pollution. In fact, extraordinary beings have almost no means to resist physical pollution. Otherwise, the ocean would not be listed as a forbidden zone for extraordinary beings, since the pollution there is diluted to a great extent!
This level of contamination is enough to cause a superhuman to lose control several times over. Unless Lina dodges, she will inevitably come into contact with the contamination.
If she dodges, Isaac will abandon all his physical form and dive into the Sea of Nothingness, returning to the pupa. At that point, no matter what methods Lina uses, it will be useless. Since she has not transcended the human form, she cannot fight against the pupa.
That way, at least the soul remains intact, and if things go wrong later, we can always find a new body.
If she doesn't dodge, or if she has a way to remove the threat of contamination, Isaac will willingly go closer and get the contamination on her.
This would cause him to lose control, and an out-of-control superhuman is extremely terrifying, even comparable to some weak evil gods. Since he has two pathways, no one knows what he will be like after losing control, but he will definitely be stronger than he is originally.
Although he would certainly die, he might be able to take Lina with him in death.
A lose-lose situation is better than a win-lose situation.
In a flash, Isaac made his decision. Superhumans may be strong or weak, but they have all conquered this world with their will. Weakness and hesitation have long been abandoned by them.
Isaac stared intently at Lina, ready to react at any moment; this should be his last moment, no matter what.
It's a bit of a shame that there was no revenge.
Corina's reaction, however, was somewhat beyond his expectations.
The girl looked at the pollution with a mixture of fanaticism, longing, and nostalgia in her eyes, but no fear whatsoever.
Isaac immediately sensed something was wrong. He moved closer, ready to let the contamination get on him in order to lose control.
Corina reacted even faster, kicking Isaac squarely in the chest with a flying kick. The sound of bones shattering rang out instantly, and his chest caved in.
Isaac rolled on the ground like a piece of rotten meat a few times before leaving Lina's side.
His consciousness blurred instantly, but Isaac was overjoyed:
Although it was somewhat unexpected, he was now able to leave this body!
He finally got a chance—a chance to commit suicide.
