Chapter 30 The Deal with Dumbledore
"Oh, Merlin's beard!"

Dean Sprout's mouth opened slightly, and an exclamation came out of it.

The professors were also stunned. They never expected that Lockhart could perform such an incredible operation.

Knocking yourself out is extremely embarrassing.

How could someone who behaves so absurdly become a professor?

The professors present looked at each other, and then turned to Dumbledore at the same time, expecting him to give a reasonable explanation.

"You know, it's hard to find a teacher for Defense Against the Dark Arts."

Dumbledore shrugged helplessly and spread his hands.

"And he took the initiative to apply."

The professors' eyes looking at Lockhart changed instantly.

Everyone knows that the position of Professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts has been cursed by a mysterious person, and all those who hold this position will quit the job within a year due to various unexpected circumstances.

Some people even lost their lives because of it.

The Defense Against the Dark Arts professor has become a consumable commodity, and every year Dumbledore has to rack his brains over who to fill this position.

Lockhart volunteered to step forward, which did solve a big problem for Dumbledore to a certain extent.

However, Dumbledore had never expected Lockhart to be so incompetent and perform so poorly.

The movement in the teacher's seat attracted the students' attention.

The professors didn't want the students to know that Lockhart was knocked unconscious by their own spell. That would be too embarrassing for the professors.

So, they all took action and tried their best to cover for Lockhart.

Dean Sprout quickly cast a levitation spell and quietly took Lockhart away.

Weiss watched this scene and began to worry about the quality of the Defense Against the Dark Arts class this school year. After all, he was the only one who knew that Lockhart was a liar.

He can imagine what students can learn in class.

For example: How to get a perfect smile; One hundred ways to care for your hair... and so on.

Thinking of this, Weiss couldn't help but feel sorry for the students.

Soon, it was time to go to bed and the students dispersed one after another.

Dumbledore extended the invitation just as Weiss was about to return to the dormitory.

"Wes, can you talk to me for a minute?"

"Of course." Weiss agreed without hesitation.

Then the two of them went to the principal's office together.

As soon as he sat down, Dumbledore said, "Weiss, I didn't expect that after not seeing you for a holiday, I'm surprised by your growth."

“I’m just a little more hardworking than others.”

Weiss looked at Dumbledore calmly.

"This isn't something you can achieve simply through hard work. There are always a small number of people in the world who, without much effort, can achieve things that ordinary people would find difficult to achieve in their entire lives."

"These people are called geniuses, and even among geniuses, you, Weiss, are extremely special."

In addition to curiosity, Dumbledore's words also showed his admiration for the young man.

[Even myself and Voldemort had not reached this level when they were Weiss's age.]

Facing Dumbledore's praise, Weiss appeared very calm.

But in my heart I was thinking: "Becoming a level 4 wizard mainly depends on my own efforts. Although the panel only provides "a little help", the panel is also my talent. How can I not be considered a genius?"

"Principal, you didn't call me here just to praise me, did you?"

Weiss raised his eyebrows slightly and said in a slightly teasing tone.

"Can't you?"

Weiss made a move to stand up and leave.

"Well, I do have something to ask you." Dumbledore muttered, "Young people nowadays really have no patience at all."

Dumbledore's expression grew serious, "Weiss, Voldemort will return."

"So what?" Weiss wasn't surprised by the Dark Lord's return. "I'm not afraid of him."

"Of course, you gave him a good beating last year. From what I've heard, Voldemort is not a man of broad mind."

Dumbledore frowned slightly as he remembered the fight between Weiss and Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest last semester.

"Just a lost dog."

Weiss did not take Voldemort and his Death Eaters seriously.

"You underestimate Voldemort." Dumbledore took out a list from the drawer, which was densely covered with names.

"Who are these?" Wes looked at the long list of names. The densely packed names gave him a headache.

"A supporter of Voldemort."

Dumbledore explained, his tone heavy.

"Are these people Death Eaters?" Weiss demanded.

"Not entirely. Some people are secretly supporting him."

Weiss then took the list from Dumbledore and began to read it carefully. He sneered as he read. He put the list down and said to Dumbledore:

"They are all pure-blood families."

"The pure-blood theory is completely fabricated and has no basis whatsoever, yet some families firmly believe in it."

Dumbledore was also helpless and could only shake his head helplessly.

"Voldemort was such a staunch supporter of the pure-blood theory that he even abandoned his Muggle name."

"How can a person who abandons his past deserve to have a future?" Weiss's words stunned Dumbledore.

"I didn't expect you to have such an insight."

Dumbledore was a little surprised.

"That's what a Muggle said. I just borrowed it." Weiss said lightly.

"Muggles are not lacking in wisdom, they just took a different path from us..."

Dumbledore went off topic, and Weiss brought him back to the topic.

"Where did we just talk?"

Dumbledore seemed to be old and had forgotten everything he had just said.

"Voldemort," Weiss reminded.

"Yes." Dumbledore fell into reminiscence. "He was a perfect student when he was in school. The former headmaster doted on him."

At this moment, the portrait of former headmaster Armando Dippet on the wall suddenly spoke: "Dumbledore, why are you saying this? Are you humiliating me?"

"Of course not, you were also bewitched by him at that time."

Dumbledore explained quickly, a hint of apology on his face.

The portrait of Armando Dippet then closed his eyes angrily and stopped talking.

Weiss was a little impatient: "Principal, you wasted so much time talking, what exactly do you want to tell me?"

"I am old." Dumbledore looked at his long white beard, looking tired, without the energy he had during the day.

"I no longer have the energy to deal with the resurrection of Voldemort."

Weiss, of course, knew what Dumbledore was up to at the moment. He deliberately raised his voice and asked, "You want to win me over?"

"Yes."

"My appearance fee is not low."

Weiss's mouth curled up slightly.

"Don't young people today have any sense of responsibility?"

"Don't blackmail me morally. You're asking me to deal with the Dark Lord who is feared by the entire British wizarding community."

"This is indeed dangerous, let me think about it"

Seeing that Weiss was not easy to fool, Dumbledore turned his back and fell into deep thought.

"I've thought of something," Dumbledore said, pulling a book from the shelf. "This is something I accidentally discovered in the tomb of an Egyptian pharaoh during my youthful adventure."

"The Egyptian Book of the Dead?"

"Don't be fooled by the name. It actually contains scriptures composed by ancient scribes for the dead, including spells and hymns."

Dumbledore explained, "It contains many powerful and mysterious spells."

"Are you confident in entrusting such a valuable item to me?"

"I've studied this book for decades but haven't fully grasped it. I'm afraid I won't be able to complete this task for the rest of my life. I don't intend to be buried with it."

Dumbledore used it as a bargaining chip, which would benefit Weiss, and he also sincerely wanted to entrust it to him.

After all, this young man, Weiss, has reached the same level as himself at such a young age. He thinks this may be another kind of inheritance.

The Egyptian Book of the Dead is extremely precious and can be said to be the origin of Egyptian magic. This reward far exceeded Wes's expectations.
