Industrial Revolution of the Mage Lords

Chapter 67: Meeting the enemy head-on

Chapter 67: Meeting the enemy head-on
"Everyone, get ready! Fire!"

Vaughn pressed his shoulder against the butt of the gun, aimed at an evil orc rushing in the front, and pulled the trigger steadily.

The evil orc who was running at full speed suddenly stopped, a charred bloody hole appeared in the middle of his chest, and then he fell to the ground without a sound.

"The eighth one!" He turned his head and loudly reported his battle record to the soldier beside him who was also crawling on top of the war beast.

This was a way to boost morale that Commander Pierce repeatedly emphasized during tactical training for all his junior officers.

That is, the officer himself leads by example and inspires the courage and sense of honor of his soldiers with strong combat achievements.

But his mind was actually blank, and he was operating the magic gun continuously shooting based entirely on the instincts accumulated from his usual training.

Their combat team had just arrived at the river valley area when they suddenly ran into a group of evil orcs with about 500 people. The other side seemed to have just experienced a pursuit and massacre of refugees and was lazily wandering on a messy river beach.

The Wolf Spider Alchemist and the Evil Orc Sentry discovered each other almost at the same time, and both immediately issued an enemy warning.

Pierce acted decisively and arranged the war beasts carrying the soldiers in a horizontal line, crouching down on the spot to form a solid metal defense line.

All the soldiers of the Sharpshooter Team climbed to the top of the war beast and shot at the evil orcs gathering in the distance.

The first wave of volleys of gunfire caused the evil orcs in the front row to fall down like straw cut by a sickle.

But the evil beastmen were extremely numerous and they were extremely agile when running in the mountains. In just a few tens of seconds, they rushed to a position less than ten meters in front of their defense line. The soldiers leaning over on high ground could clearly see those evil beastmen with ugly and twisted faces, ferocious fangs and blood-red eyes as big as copper bells.

The soldiers who were arranged behind the war beasts and did not have the new magic guns began to show some signs of hesitation in their team.

A tall evil orc luckily avoided several shots, rushed to the feet of the war beast, kicked his feet hard, and climbed on the body of the war beast, trying to climb to the top to attack the soldiers of the sharpshooter team.

"Captain! Watch out below!"

Vaughn came to his senses, extended the barrel of his gun downwards, and fired the shot almost against the forehead of the climbing evil orc.

A stream of extremely smelly blood sprayed into his face, seemingly mixed with a lot of broken brain matter.

Vaughn didn't bother to wipe off the filth. He quickly crawled back two steps, took the new magazine from the deputy team leader Wayne, and replaced it with trembling hands.

On the war beast next to him, his comrade Daf also easily hit two approaching evil orcs. He whistled at him with a pouting mouth and a smug expression on his face.

"You only called out a few names? What's there to brag about?" Vice-captain Wayne glared at the other person.

"Everyone, attention! Free fire! After the reserve team has emptied their guns, advance with spears and secure the defense!"

The reserve soldiers on the ground received orders and lay down, shooting freely at the evil orcs outside the defense line through the gaps under the war beasts.

The old model of magic gun only had a capacity of three or five rounds of ammunition, and it was used up after half a minute.

The reserve soldiers immediately stood up, drew out the metal spears on their backs, and fiercely stabbed the evil orcs who tried to penetrate the gaps at the bottom and sides of the war beasts and get into the defense line.

Pierce stood on top of a war beast, using his natural reaction ability to easily dodge several bone spears thrown at him, and raised his magic gun to specifically attack the evil orcs wearing iron helmets and bone armor.

This is what Lord Harvey told him. It is called "capture the leader first to capture the thief", or a decapitation operation.

He was quite satisfied with the performance of the soldiers he had brought with him. Although there had been a slight disturbance in the ranks after the fel orcs approached, the habit of strictly following orders, cultivated during daily training, had subconsciously led them to obey. Asdalen stood beside him, observing the situation below, and said softly, "Over half of them have been killed or wounded. They're about to flee..."

Pierce cast his gaze forward and discovered that there was indeed a hint of commotion among the evil orcs' follow-up team. Many evil orcs who fell behind the team began to turn around and run towards the riverbank.

"These brainless guys aren't all fearless."

He paused, then cautiously asked Asdaren, "Should we give chase?"

Asdalen tilted his head and said quietly, "You are the commander of this special operation, and I am the officer in charge of controlling the alchemy beast. Why are you asking me?"

Pierce was choked and his face turned slightly red.

"Give the order, have the Wolf Spiders give chase! The reserve soldiers and the sharpshooters will form a double line, alternating between providing cover, and advance towards the riverbank!"

The two war beasts slowly moved their heavy bodies, making way for a wide passage.

The soldiers lined up as ordered and marched in neat steps towards the riverbank. When they passed by the evil orcs who were hit by the magic guns but not killed immediately, the reserve soldiers took the opportunity to swing their spears and hit them repeatedly to the point of chilling them to death.

The wolf spider beasts were fifty meters ahead of the team, biting the fleeing evil beastmen tightly. From time to time, some evil beastmen who were being chased would turn around, howling and trying to fight back, but they were immediately rushed up by the wolf spider beasts who were good at group combat and torn to pieces.

Some sharpshooters with better shooting accuracy also advanced while shooting with their guns.

Soon, all the fleeing evil beastmen were driven to the open river beach without any shelter.

The command whistle sounded from behind, which was the order for the sharpshooters to shoot in unison in a half-crouching position.

After a volley of gunfire, dozens of evil beastmen fell into the mud on the riverbank.

The less than one hundred evil orcs left on the riverbank were terrified and even lost the courage to raise their bone spears and throw them back. They dropped the spoils they had previously snatched, jumped into the icy river, and swam frantically towards the other side.

The order to stop the pursuit came, and soldiers holding spears came out one after another and began a new round of finishing blows on the evil orcs lying on the ground who were still alive.

Vaughn lowered the magic gun he had been aiming at and looked at the figure of the evil orc floating in the river.

He whispered to Wayne beside him, "I never thought that the evil orcs could be defeated so easily."

He stared at the slightly heated barrel of the magic gun, seemingly muttering to himself, "But with the weapons bestowed upon us by the Lord, even if the demons charge at me, I dare not retreat and pull the trigger at them..."

……

After much consideration, Pierce finally decided to set up the first outpost in the valley area on a high ground on the river bank.

This place is convenient for observing and guarding against the evil orcs on the other side who may cross the river at any time, and it is also convenient for building outposts to effectively defend against the evil orcs' raids.

This time, Lord Harvey specifically asked him to bring a large amount of cement and several working alchemy beasts. He can build this sturdy cement fortress in three days at most.

"Set up camp on the gentle slope of the high ground. We'll also place the War Beasts outside the camp for defense. We'll arrange three shifts of patrols at night, and send all the Wolf Spider Beasts out to search and guard the surrounding area..."
