Chapter 16: Making a Wand

The second class in the afternoon is Transfiguration.

I don’t know if it’s because the vice-headmaster has to strictly maintain school discipline, but Professor McGonagall’s expression becomes very serious when she starts class.

"Transfiguration is the most complex and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts."

Professor McGonagall looked around, looking at everyone with sharp eyes.

"If anyone acts mischievously in my class, I'll ask them to leave and never let them back in. I've warned you!"

The effect of this sentence was surprisingly good. All the young wizards sat upright and no one dared to speak in class.

But the serious atmosphere did not last forever, when Professor McGonagall turned the desk into a pig and then back again.

All the little wizards exclaimed, including Moon.

Especially when she saw Professor McGonagall holding her wand and chanting a spell, the wizard bar above her head instantly turned into six squares.

"Okay, it takes a lot of practice to turn an object into an animal. This week you just need to master turning matches into needles."

Professor McGonagall explained the basic rules of Transfiguration while handing out a match to each student.

She didn't speak very fast, but it was still difficult for Moon to remember the main points of what she said.

Because there are some words he can read but not write, even if these words are on the tip of his tongue, his brain just doesn't know whether the first letter should be 'P' or 'B'.

Listening to the rustling sound of his deskmate taking notes, Moon consciously put down his quill and began to practice transforming matches into needles according to the spell in the "Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration".

Hermione turned her head to look at Moon, then curled her lips and continued copying.

When the class was over, only Hermione had completed the magic of turning the match into a needle.

Moon was also halfway done.

Match head + needle tip.

When the bell rang for the end of get out of class, Moon declined Harry and Ron's invitation to go to the Great Hall for dinner and instead looked at Hermione.

"Hermione, can I borrow your notes?"

"Why don't you write during class?"

"Because I have some words on the tip of my tongue, but I just can't write them."

"You can't read?"

Hermione looked over in surprise. She had felt last night that Moon's foundation was very poor, but she hadn't expected it to be this bad.

"I can't say I don't know them, at least I know some common words."

"Well, it seems that the Modern Magical Syllabary is not enough. You also need a copy of the Oxford Reading Tree."

"Can this be found in the library?"

“No, this is the textbook I used when I was in elementary school.”

After learning that Moon had no off-campus purchasing channels, Hermione agreed to lend her old textbooks.

Moon didn't mind reading more books, especially since these books could help him learn magic quickly.

Attend classes well and read books seriously.

These are all things that Moon must do in this world, but there is still one problem that has been bothering him.

What to do when we get back to Xilin? There's no magic wand there.

Can the magic I learned still be used in Xilin?

Now he only mastered an unskilled illumination spell and an incomplete transfiguration spell.

But this requires the use of a magic wand.

This problem did not bother Moon for long. After arriving at the library, he found a solution to the problem.

No wonder there is a saying in Xilin: Books are the wisest counselors and the most patient teachers.

When Moon saw the thousands of bookshelves standing before him, his heart was deeply shaken. There were probably more bookshelves here than trees in the hazelnut forest he was watching over, and the number of books was probably more than the annual production of hazelnuts.

"It's shocking, isn't it? I've read in a book that the collection of books here is the largest in the entire wizarding world." Hermione whispered in Moon's ear.

"There should be magic here, right?" Moon asked curiously, seeing that the space inside the library was much larger than what appeared outside.

"No noise allowed in the library!"

As soon as Moon finished speaking, a witch in a black robe, with a serious face and a hooked nose quickly walked over.

"You can't damage the books, and you can't go to the restricted section."

After seeing that Moon was a freshman, the librarian, Madam Pince, immediately gave him another reminder.

Moon covered his mouth and nodded to show that he understood, then started browsing in the public library area.

Moon found many books about magic wands here, but not many of them explained how to make them.

What Moon remembered most clearly about the wand was what Ollivander had said.

It is the wand that chooses the wizard.

But after studying the history of magic, Moon knew that wands were not innate, but were made by wizards. Although he did not understand what Ollivander meant, it did not stop him from making a wand.

Yes, the solution to the problem is to build a magic wand.

This way he could experiment in Xilin to see if the magic he learned at Hogwarts could be used.

Moon knew the process would be difficult, especially since he knew nothing about wand making.

However, the magical knowledge in the library gave him the courage to dream.

When Moon came to the reading area with "Modern Magical Pronunciation Table" and "Wand Making and Maintenance", a questioning expression appeared on Hermione's little face.

"Why this book?" Hermione gently pointed to Wand Making and Care.

"Hmm~, I think we need to take a look. Didn't Professor Flitwick say that if you want to perform magic, it's best to establish a close relationship with the wand so that you can use it with ease?"

Moon explained sincerely, but Hermione's reaction was different from others. She tilted her head and thought for a while, then turned and walked towards the book collection area.

"What you said makes sense. I want to borrow one too."

The author of Wand Making and Care is named Ollivander.

Moon guessed that this should be the wand shop owner's grandfather's generation, because the book was published two hundred years ago.

The book records in detail the entire process of making a magic wand, including material selection, material collection, processing, core embedding, and debugging.

The library closed at nine in the evening, and Moon had only read half of the content about wand material selection, but he had already discovered a lot of problems.

The book only records the characteristics of wood suitable for making wands, but does not say how to discover wood with magical properties. It is impossible that all trees can be used.

"The problem you mentioned is probably the Ollivander family's secret. If they include this in the book, the wand shop will probably go bankrupt."

On the way back to the common room, Hermione gave the most likely correct answer.

But this was not what Moon wanted, and now he was stuck again in the first step of making the wand.

The two of them were talking when they came to the door of the common room. Just as the Fat Lady asked for the password, Hermione suddenly stopped and looked at Moon in confusion.

"You didn't seem to take a detour?"

Moon couldn't keep up with the speed at which Hermione's mind was turning, and only understood when she looked at the spiral staircases.

"Yes, this is the shortest way."

"How did you do that? It's only the second day of school!"

There are many stairs to get to the Gryffindor common room. These stairs are not fixed and they change every moment. Even senior students often take the wrong stairs.

However, it only took Moon one day to memorize the characteristics of all the stairs.

"Shouldn't we remember the road after we walk it once?"
