Durin's Diary

Chapter 18 Son of Zhulong

Chapter 18 Son of Zhulong
Time began to flow again. The instructor was the first person outside the field to sense the problem. He looked at Du Lin and said, "You're not in the right position."

"Well, the flow of time once stopped."

Du Lin spoke the truth and dispelled his dancing light technique. He looked at Anta and shook his head: "I chose the power from my grandmother, the Candle Dragon Vein."

Anta was surprised: "Ah? Candle Dragon Vein, a promotion I've never heard of."

The people of the same age behind her, including Du Lin’s senior sisters, brothers, and junior brothers and sisters, all opened their mouths wide.

The mentor walked over to Du Lin and patted him on the shoulder. "Son, you've finally made it this far. That's a good thing. You've proven to everyone that you're not the sorcerer the rumors say you are. As for your promotion, I know about it, but you'll have to go back and ask your grandfather."

Of course, Durin had heard of the rumors about the sorcerer, and the third son of the Griffith family also had a role to play in these rumors. Apart from the elders who were initially confused because Durin's sorcerer profession did not show any dragon veins, most of them were peers who were jealous of Durin and Anta's close relationship.

In other words, Du Lin has an old heart and has always been unwilling to argue with a group of twelve or thirteen-year-old bastards - why should I argue with a group of little brats who are only a fraction of my age?

Of course, this situation couldn't be discussed, so Du Lin just smiled and nodded: "Thank you for your guidance, mentor, I understand."

"That's right, but don't thank me, everything is arranged by fate." The mentor's answer was a bit cryptic, but Durin didn't care. The mages, warlocks and clergy in this world always said that everything was arranged by fate, or it was just this land. It felt like a professional habit.

After all, this is a world where true God exists. When faced with the true God, materialists can only admit that He does exist, otherwise it would become an idealist farce.

After saying goodbye to their mentor and senior brothers and sisters, Du Lin and Anta walked out of the Mage Tower.

Anta followed Du Lin out, looking at him all the way.

"Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?" Du Lin was a little curious.

"You have a small dragon scale under your left eye. If you don't pay attention, you might think it's a mole. There's also a lump on the side of your forehead." Anta said.

Du Lin reached out and touched it, and found that there were indeed scales, very small, just like Old Yixu. Old Yixu had a scale under his ear, which was a sign of dragon veins.

The bump on his forehead was very hard, and there was a similar bump on the other side, hidden by his hair. This made Du Lin a little depressed: "These two bumps are very hard. I wonder if I will grow horns."

"Horns? I've seen some dragon vein sorcerers grow horns, but their positions seem different from yours." Anta said this, still very curious: "What is the Candle Dragon Vein? I need to read the book carefully."

"Let me know when you find it," Du Lin said.

"Du Lin, is there something you don't know?" Anta hugged Du Lin's arm, his eyes widened with curiosity.

"There are so many things I don't know." Du Lin felt that this girl thought too highly of him.

For example, Durin didn't know why he came to this strange and unfamiliar world, where there were magic and muskets. There were monsters and deformed creatures in the wilderness to the east. This strange yet familiar land made Durin feel fucked up, and what made him even more helpless was how he turned into a non-human grassland elf, and how his biological monitor became a system tool he carried with him, allowing him to see people's data by squinting his eyes. Moreover, this system, which called itself Big Orange, was quite unique. When encountering someone stronger than himself, he would see less data.

Fortunately, he still has a loyal and reliable ally.

"Du Lin, I'm hungry, and you must be hungry too. Let's go have some snacks." Anta compromised and began to care about each other's appetite.

"Come to my manor and I'll make you a honey cake, how about that?" Du Lin looked at Anta and said, "Let's bake the cake first, and then we can enjoy donuts and milk tea."

"Okay." Anta happily held Du Lin's hand.

On the way back to the manor, Du Lin said with emotion: "If you really don't go home, what will happen to your mother?"

"Next year, I'll be a seventh-ring high-level mage. What can they do to me?" Anta said proudly, holding Du Lin's hand. "A thirteen-year-old seventh-ring mage! My grandfather will definitely be proud of me."

Yes, that’s why it’s so rare and valuable.

In short, Du Lin has made all preparations to fight his ever-increasing opponents until the end of the world.

They walked all the way to the front of the manor. The gate had been repaired. After getting off the car and paying the fare, Du Lin took Anta into the yard. His old man Yi Xu was lying on a recliner.

Seeing Du Lin coming back, he smiled and waved.

Du Lin motioned Anta to go to the living room first, and then came to his grandfather. "How did the promotion end?" Old Ish asked with a smile.

"It's the Candle Dragon Vein." Du Lin said this and chose to remain silent. Indeed, Du Lin was very curious about his grandmother's identity - the grassland elf woman hanging on the wall on the second floor in the center of the hall did not look like someone who possessed the Candle Dragon Vein at all.

"You've chosen this path, indeed. Follow me." As if not surprised at all, Old Yishi gestured for Du Lin to follow him. Then, the old man and the young man walked up the stairs leading to the second floor. At the corner, Old Yishi stopped and looked at the kind-looking old woman on the wall. "Your grandmother isn't the one on the wall. She was my first wife, who passed away after giving birth to your six aunts. Your grandmother came from the distant East."

"Where is Dongtu?" Du Lin had seen the word Dongtu in history books, but the books were vague: "Is it the land in the east?"

"Yes, it is the land of the East. We are separated from them by an immeasurable huge black area." Old Ish said as he took Du Lin to the third floor. He took out a key from his pocket and opened the door that Du Lin had never opened before.

Du Lin followed his grandfather into the room. He saw a small bedroom. In the bedroom, there was a full-length portrait of a white-haired girl on the hanging painting. She looked similar to a grassland elf. There was a small horn on each side of her forehead, and behind her, Du Lin saw a long tail.

My God, pure-blooded Eastern Earth Dragons. There isn’t even psychic power here, but Eastern Earth Dragons can still give birth to offspring with dominant bloodlines. This place really isn’t Earth.

Daju sighed.

"She and I gave birth to your mother. Your mother saw the Candle Dragon Vein but chose the path of the Silver Dragon. Your brother and sister didn't see the Candle Dragon Vein's path to advancement during the advancement ceremony, but you saw it and chose this path." Having said this, Old Yishi came to the portrait and looked at her. "She said she was a hybrid of a grassland elf and a dragon. There are grassland elf clans in the East, and her mother is one of them. Because of this, she chose to board the ship and head to the distant West."

"How did you meet her?" Du Lin looked at the girl in the picture. This was the dragon species from southern Thailand, but it was completely different from the one he remembered. At least, the tail seemed too long compared to the length of the dragon species from the East in his memory, and the horns were too small and cute.

There is still a little difference.

"In Everforged Fortress, I was serving there at the time. A fleet of Eastlanders came to Everforged Fortress to trade. I initially thought she was the shipowner's daughter. Later, the fleet left, and she stayed. I learned about her past from her. She wanted to live a peaceful life in the new land... I eventually took her back to Lublin... and later, we fell in love."

At this point, Old Yixu took out a cigarette case from his pocket, but eventually put it back. "Her parents' union was not blessed by either family. After her parents were forcibly separated, she was sent to an orphanage and suffered a lot. The awakening of her bloodline was a later event. It was also because of her bloodline that she chose to come to the Western Continent. I married her without originally thinking of having children, but she disagreed. She said that life lies in inheritance, from generation to generation... That's why your mother was born. And because of giving birth to your mother, her health deteriorated... But she told me she didn't regret it..." Old Yixu looked at Du Lin. There seemed to be flames in his eyes, but tears were flowing. "Remember, my child, divine arts are not omnipotent. There are differences in life from birth. And death, this terrifying thing, is actually the last bit of fairness that this world can give to life. It took me a long time to accept the fact that she left me."

Du Lin nodded and looked at the girl in the portrait: "I will become like this in the future, with a long tail."

"Maybe, maybe you won't look like a silver dragon, but no matter what, you are also a member of the dragon clan. Although there are differences between the dragon species in the East and the dragon species in the West, you will always be my good grandson." Old Yi Xu said and sighed.

"Grandpa, what's grandma's name?" Du Lin was a little curious.

"Mo Yan." These words, a sentence in Chinese, came out of old Yi Xu's mouth.

Du Lin's heart twitched.

"Mo Yan, your surname is Mo and your given name is Yan. These are the surnames of people from the East. I don't blame you if you don't understand. After all, learning a language requires an environment." Old Yi Xu said this and looked at the portrait again.

He didn't see the surprise and confusion in his grandson's eyes.

Some people say that the universe is so vast and the world is so big that there will always be a place where the story of another place repeats itself. I used to think it was nonsense, but now I believe it a little.

Daju sighed in Du Lin’s mind.

Du Lin thought so too.

Old Ish finally chose to leave. This room had too many memories for him, so in the end he did not give the key to Du Lin.

Du Lin understood that whenever this key came into his hands, it would prove that this room had become real history - all the good things would become the past, and all the lives that had lived would become people in the story.

But until that day comes, this room and the people in the painting belong only to old Ish.

It does not belong to history, nor to stories.

Thinking of this, Du Lin looked at the portrait inside the door until the door was closed.

Goodbye, and...goodnight.

As usual, I would like to thank you for your support and feeding. Thank you.
