Durin's Diary

Chapter 341 Musical Genius

Chapter 341 Musical Genius
Du Lin quickly understood.

Not long after everyone took their seats, a dwarf host walked onto the stage.

"Good evening, gentlemen and ladies with bare shoulders, and gentlemen and ladies with uncovered shoulders, welcome to the Paris Film Festival. This is an annual event, and this year is different from previous years. The veterans of long-established fame are facing an extremely formidable opponent, both in terms of his legendary status and his superb films."

There was laughter in the audience.

He smiled and pointed at Durin. "Welcome, Lord Durin Ayrsh. Your perfect performance last year conquered all the judges. Please come up and receive your first award."

"The Newcomer Award is the first one to be awarded. Its purpose is to allow the most outstanding young people to come on stage and be recognized by everyone." Czerny explained while patting Du Lin's shoulder with a smile.

Durin stood up awkwardly. Astrid smiled and switched places with Durin. "I'm sure you'll have to stand up many times next. Let's change places."

Du Lin smiled, took her hand and kissed it, then walked onto the stage.

The tall and big guy next to the dwarf had already picked up a small hexahedral column from a shelf nearby.

"Welcome, Mr. Dulin. We're all delighted to have you at the Paris Film Festival. You're the most accomplished director of the younger generation. But before you leave with your trophy, please say a few words to the veterans in the audience. Just give them some time to remember your features."

The people in the audience burst into laughter.

Du Lin also smiled and raised the small trophy in his hand. "Before coming here, I told myself that I would join this feast as a junior. This is a festival for all filmmakers, and I am personally flattered to receive this award. Film has been around for nearly a hundred years, and we have experienced so much in film history. I received this award today, which is a personal honor, but I also believe that in the future, when I sit in the audience with all of you elders and see young people who joined the ranks of film directors later than me come up on stage with even better works... then, I will join you all in hope and expectation."

At this point, Du Lin bowed his head and said, "Thank you to the Paris Film Academy, thank you to my mentors, thank you to every judge, and thank you to every colleague who is willing to believe that movies will get better and better."

Then he lifted the small trophy, holding it high with a smile, and prepared to leave the stage with a smile.

"Mr. Durin." The dwarf called Durin.

This made Du Lin a little confused: "Is there anything else?"

"Ah, it's our fault. Our staff must have forgotten to tell you that the winner of the New Director Award is usually the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award."

"I see." Du Lin nodded, rolled up the trophy with his tail, then looked at the dwarf host and smiled as he picked up the second letter and opened it.

He took a look, then looked at Du Lin with a very exaggerated smile, and handed the card with the name on it to Du Lin: "My God, kid, they have caused us a trouble. Come on, tell me the name."

"Telgaro, Son of Eternal Night, Kermigaro! The name of the giant."

"Yes." Du Lin and Mr. Dwarf exclaimed together, and then watched a giant stand up from the corner with a smile.

"My God, he's so tall, kid. Where can we get a ladder now?" The dwarf put his hands on his hips and looked at Durin with a helpless look on his face.

Du Lin smiled, took the huge trophy with one hand, snapped his fingers with the other, and then everyone saw him floating into the air.

Du Lin handed the trophy to the old man, who made a brief speech and then went back happily.

Durin shook hands with the dwarf, who smiled with great satisfaction: "I am Kumir Big Toe. Thank you, kid. If it were someone else, Mr. Telgaro's back injury would probably relapse on the spot." Everyone laughed again.

Next was the Best Makeup and Design. Although none of Du Lin's films were nominated, after watching the four nominated films, Du Lin felt that Parisians were really becoming a bit lewd. In addition to all kinds of gorgeous clothing, these four art films all had girls who openly exposed their upper bodies and men who exposed their lower bodies, truly a race for freedom among all creatures in the frosty sky.

"I heard that movies in Paris are very wild, but this is too wild." Astrid covered her face, not daring to look.

Next up is Best Cinematography.

There was definitely no place for Du Lin - Du Lin's films were all made with a camera, and the award required the director to use a super heavy camera.

In the end, a middle-aged man in his fifties came on stage to receive the award. Du Lin had seen clips of his film, and honestly, it was well shot, with a kind of low-budget beauty. Although it sounds bad, it is not easy to shoot something like this in this era.

Then there's Best Original Score.

Du Lin raised his eyebrows because he saw that Kumir had opened the envelope. He took a look and then laughed exaggeratedly.

"It seems like this is the least controversial award so far."

Then, three movies appeared one after another on the big screen behind him, all with good music.

But when the violin sounded, when the piano sounded, and when Du Lin's film "The Sound of the Wind" appeared on the screen, the entire venue burst into warm applause.

And Kumir read out the name loudly: "Wind, Dulin!"

A young director ran over to shake hands with Du Lin. He rolled up his sleeves fearlessly and showed Du Lin his Northernism tattoo.

Du Lin shook hands with him: "Thank you."

"You are our pride, sir." He smiled and helped Du Lin up. "Come on, Mr. Du Lin, your music is really wonderful."

Du Lin walked forward quickly, and along the way, directors he didn't know shook hands with him.

Until Du Lin came to power.

"I remember you said that 'Mist Harbor,' now in the second-year etudes at the Sidney Conservatory of Music, was just your practice piece. Do you know how many children cried and said it was difficult?" At this point, Mr. Kumire laughed and handed the award to Du Lin. "Come on, young man, say something more."

Du Lin thought for a moment and said, "When I was very young, my grandfather took me to see a musical. I wasn't particularly interested in the human voice, but when the sounds of instruments formed something called music, I was deeply drawn in. I loved the music composed of the sounds of different strings. Later, I had a great teacher, Professor Czerny. He was the best teacher I have ever met, and it was an honor to have met him."

After saying that, Du Lin walked down the stage holding the trophy. He walked all the way to Professor Czerny and handed the trophy to Old Gaoti.

Finally, Professor Czerny accepted the trophy with an excited look on his face: "Thank you, son. I am very happy to receive your recognition."

So, there was no surprise of thunderous applause.
