Old Gods, Rapid-Fire Guns, and Prohibition

Chapter 41 [Chapter Horse Lance]

Chapter 41 [Backhand]

Velen woke up in severe pain.

But he did not feel any joy of being alive, but rather fear, not the fear of the torture he would suffer.

In his long life, he had experienced too much suffering and danger. The only thing he feared was that it would cause trouble for the young master and the Pauletta family.

Fortunately, he immediately heard a familiar voice ringing in his ears.

"Bear the pain, there is no anesthetic here."

It was the young master's voice.

Safe.

Velen relaxed suddenly, but the pain spread throughout his body with double the intensity.

He gritted his teeth but didn't scream, but his muscles kept cramping.

"Well done, Velen, I'm proud of you." Ethan held Velen's hand.

He had learned the whole story of what happened today from the gunmen who escaped back.

Without Velen, he would not only lose a large amount of goods and a new channel, but the new military force that the family had worked so hard to build would also be wiped out again.

Velen simply saved the Pauletta family.

The old minister left by his father was much more solid than he had imagined.

"Master, I didn't take the money first. I let them take the wine away first." Wei Lun endured the pain and said with some shame.

"Velen, are you trying to humiliate me? You've done your best, including the money. This is the best solution. Fatty Sin'dorei accepted my goods, do you really dare not pay me? No one else would do better than you. Take a good rest, you deserve it. How about a glass of wine?"

Ethan patted his hands, poured a glass of wine and brought it over.

Velen nodded, took a sip, and felt the pain subside a little.

"Master, how did I get back? Shouldn't I..."

In theory, he should be dead.

Even if he wasn't killed in the explosion, he would have been tortured to death by Lewis.

"Anya has arrived."

Ethan was a little uneasy this morning, and it was hard to tell whether it was a whim or something else.

So after predicting Velen's departure, he asked Anya to go with him to check it out, just in case.

Finally something really happened.

Although she didn't catch up completely, when Anya arrived, Velen had already blown up the car.

But Velen was still alive, just seriously injured and unconscious.

After Anya forced Lewis back with a gun, she left with Velen.

Originally, Anya wanted to take Velen to the city, and the Pauletta family naturally had their own underground doctor.

But Velen was seriously injured, especially his legs. If he was not amputated immediately, he would most likely die from blood loss.

So Anya could only take him back to the nearby Pauletta Manor.

Now, they were in the basement of the Pauletta manor, in a room used for emergency first aid.

It is rarely used, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be used, like today.

Anya has learned first aid. She is the best student in Velen. She can handle assassination, shooting, fighting, first aid, and even clerical work.

However, amputation was too technical a job and her work was rather rough. Fortunately, it was finally completed.

Velen's wound has been bandaged.

Now, she was treating the burns on his body.

These wounds are relatively mild and not fatal.

After Wei Lun finished his drink and smoked a cigarette, he regained his composure. Then he saw his empty left foot.

The whole thing was cut off.

He was obviously distracted.

"I will make you the best crutch." Ethan also saw his legs and could only say this.

"Thank you, young master, I will like it very much." Velen forced a smile.

The two were about to continue talking when a bell rang in the room outside. It was a message that something had happened on the ground and it was transmitted through the mechanism.

"Anya, you watch over Velen, I'll go up and take a look."

Ethan patted Velen's shoulder again, then walked through a passage and headed towards the ground.

When they got to the ground, a family guard spoke anxiously, "Master, there's a group of people outside trying to break into the manor. They claim to be Prohibition spies, and we can't stop them."

Ethan frowned and said, "I see. You guys keep blocking it. I'll be right out."

He had to make a phone call first.

At this time, at the gate of the Pauletta family's manor.

Lewis didn't even change his clothes. He stood at the door in his leather jacket stained with blood, smoke, and rain, staring at everything in front of him with murderous intent.

"I'll say this one last time. We are Prohibition agents. We suspect you are involved in a bootlegging case. We have the right to search your estate and do anything we want. Don't force me to do anything. Your death would be in vain."

In front of him, there were many guns pointed at him.

However, he was not afraid at all, and even looked at everyone provocatively, as if he was waiting for them to shoot.

"I'll count to five. If you don't move aside, I'll attack you. Five, four..."

"I was wondering who was so arrogant, but it turns out it's Inspector Lewis. What's wrong? Why are you so angry?"

At this moment, Ethan finally came out of the house. Beside him, Anya was also called up, holding an umbrella, and walked to the door with him.

"Ethan, you finally came out. I thought you ran away."

Lewis looked at Ethan fiercely, and showed his alchemical prosthesis without hesitation.

"Why would I run? This is my home. I want to ask you, Inspector Lewis. Oh no, I remember you've been removed from the police station. Why are you running wild in front of my house?"

Ethan was calm, crossed his arms, and looked at Lewis.

"Don't play dumb with me. You know who I am, and I also know that old man Velen is in your manor right now. You didn't expect me to come here!"

Lewis took a step forward.

Suddenly, the guns that were just pointing at him were instantly locked, and the triggers were ready to fire.

"Shoot! Let your men shoot! Do you dare? I'm a Prohibition agent. Congress has passed a bill that allows Prohibition agents to investigate any case related to bootlegging. If you resist, the consequences will only get worse."

"Shoot!" Lewis growled almost crazily.

"If you take another step forward, I will definitely shoot."

When the atmosphere was suffocating, someone spoke from behind Lewis and the others.

Lewis's momentum paused, and he turned around, only to see someone who surprised him.

Bob Olde.

"What are you doing here, a second-rate lawyer?"

"Of course I am here to protect my employer and to ensure that his sacrosanct rights can be exercised smoothly."

Bob Olde smoothed his hair, which was slightly wet from the rain, and stood beside Ethan.
