Old Gods, Rapid-Fire Guns, and Prohibition

Chapter 42 [Law is the most important]

Chapter 42 [Law is the most important]

It was indeed Ethan who notified Bob Olde.

After he learned about the battle in the rain, he asked Bob to come to the manor to make contingency plans.

Let’s see if there are any follow-up actions by the Prohibition spies and whether we can take some preventive measures from the legal perspective.

So he now stood next to Ethan.

"Go away."

Lewis was very disdainful of him.

"Mr. Lewis, I just heard you mention that the Kingdom Parliament passed a bill giving you, the Prohibition spies, the power to investigate everything."

Bob just looked at him calmly.

"Yes, the bill has definitely been passed. Even if it hasn't reached Winston yet, it's effective the moment it's passed. So don't try to play tricks on me about it. I told you you're a second-rate lawyer, so you can't do first-rate work."

Lewis became increasingly frantic.

"Very good, I just want to make sure it's passed so that we can discuss this matter from a legal perspective." Bob still didn't get angry, as if after experiencing the last incident with Murphy, he suddenly became a completely different person.

"Mr. Lewis, you are now standing outside the private territory of my employer, Mr. Ethan Porletta. If you take another step forward, he has the legal right to retaliate against you."

"What nonsense are you talking about? Stop wasting my time. I said I'm a Prohibition agent. Your laws don't apply to me!"

Lewis practically opened his mouth and ripped Bob apart.

"This isn't nonsense. It's the law. Contract law grants Mr. Ethan sacred and inviolable power. When he signed the contract and acquired ownership of the land beneath his feet, he became the sovereign of this land, and no one else could overstep his authority. Contract law is the cornerstone of the kingdom and is above all other laws. Are you trying to say that an act of Parliament is superior to contract law? Especially since you don't have any substantial evidence proving that my employer has anything to do with the bootlegging you're talking about, then he has the right to shoot you if you set foot on his private property."

Bob spoke the whole thing in one breath without any stumbling in between.

Quite eloquent.

Finally, he took a deep breath and looked at Ethan.

"So, young master, if he dares to take another step forward, you shoot."

For some reason, Bob also started calling Ethan Master.

"Thanks, Bob, my friend."

Ethan smiled and looked at Anya.

"That's why I said that the law is the most important. You must invest in the law. Look, hasn't the law once again protected legitimate businessmen like me?"

Lewis's alchemical prosthesis made a nearly creaking sound when he squeezed it, and he almost broke it.

But he just didn't dare to throw that punch.

He hesitated.

The Prohibition agents who followed him were even more hesitant.

The main reason is that they don't know whether there are any terrifying guns hidden in this manor that can shoot people into sieves in an instant.

Those colleagues died tragically.

They had never seen anything like that.

"How about it, Agent Lewis? Do you want to come up and give it a try? I remember someone really wants to compete with me."

Ethan stroked the emblem on his left hand and looked at Lewis with a smile.

Lewis was in a dilemma.

He was breathing like a mad bull.

Suddenly, a clear bell rang in the manor.

It's a phone call.

Because no one answered it, it just kept ringing in vain.

long time.

Ethan said, "Everyone, I'm going to answer a phone call. I think you don't mind, right?"

Then, without waiting for anyone to speak, he turned and went into the house.

A few minutes later, he came out again. "It wasn't me who called. It was a man named Marvin. He said he was your boss, Lewis. Do you want to answer the phone? Don't worry, it's just a call. I won't shoot. Come in."

Hearing that it was Marvin, Lewis hesitated, but he finally walked into the manor.

No shots were fired.

Those who followed him breathed a sigh of relief.

After the stalemate, they were already scared. They didn't want to search this place anymore and just wanted to go back and have some wine to warm themselves up.

Following Ethan into the living room, Lewis answered the phone, and then he heard Marvin say, "Collect the team."

"for……"

He wanted to ask why.

Before I could even utter a word, the phone was hung up.

The busy tone on the phone left him equally confused.

"It seems that you are not welcome in the new team either, Lewis. It's really pitiful. But even if it is so, I won't keep you for lunch."

Ethan joked on the side.

Lewis hung up the phone and walked out of the house step by step. When he was about to reach the door, he suddenly turned back and stared at Ethan.

"Ethan, the matter between us is not over yet. As long as I am alive, I will keep watching you. Don't make any mistakes, otherwise, you will be dead!"

He pointed two fingers at his eyes and then at Ethan, looking very aggressive.

"Bob, someone is threatening me."

Ethan just laughed.

Before Bob could come over, Lewis turned and walked quickly to the door, yelling, "Retreat!"

Then they disappeared in the wind and rain.

As soon as he was out of sight, Ethan hugged Bob.

"Bob, good job, good job! Without you, I really don't know what I would do today. 'Contract law gives Mr. Ethan sacred and inviolable rights', how did you come up with that? You're a genius! Oh, contract law, I love contract law, Bob, you're awesome."

Bob was a little overwhelmed by Ethan's praise and just smiled foolishly.

Ethan looked at him. Bob had indeed changed. Compared to the last time they met, he was wearing a dark suit and a more tasteful tie. Even though his hair was wet, it looked very stylish. Most importantly, he was full of energy and vigor.

In fact, what Ethan just said was half truth and half politeness.

His real card was the phone call.

Before he came out to see Lewis, he called John Holt and briefly told him about what happened today and Lewis's troubles.

John Holt was a smart man and he said he would help take care of it.

So Ethan didn't want to shoot unless it was absolutely necessary.

Shooting is troublesome.

What he didn't expect was that before the call came, Bob came to the rescue.

Bob's performance this time has paid back Ethan's investment in him. It is a very cost-effective investment that even exceeded expectations.

"In fact, the young master already has a plan."

Bob is no fool and understands the situation.

"Don't say that, you've done well enough." Ethan put his arm around his shoulders. "Let's go in and have a drink together. We can stay for dinner. We have a lot to talk about."

As evening approached, the rain in Winster finally showed signs of stopping.

The rain is about to stop.
