Chapter 252: A Money Laundering Operation
The operation began, with Lin En personally leading the team in a black law enforcement van, followed by several police vehicles. The team quickly drove to the luxurious bar in the city center. Outside, the bar was ablaze with lights, and celebrities and wealthy businessmen were streaming in and out. Everything seemed calm and normal.
Lin En got out of the car at the bar entrance and signaled his men to disperse and block the exit. He strode towards the bar entrance, and a security guard tried to stop him: "Sir, this is a private place. You cannot enter at will."
Lin En took out his ID and said coldly, "FBI, we now suspect illegal transactions and money laundering activities are involved here. We will conduct a surprise inspection immediately. Everyone, cooperate with our actions."
The security guard looked panicked, clearly not expecting this move. He stammered and tried to stop them, but Lin En had already led his men to push open the door.
Inside the bar, the lights were dim, the music was deafening, and guests in fancy clothes were enjoying a luxurious nightlife. As soon as Lin En entered, he raised his voice and shouted, "Everyone, listen up! This place has been sealed off. Please stop all activities immediately and cooperate with our investigation!"
The scene was in chaos. The guests were frightened by the sudden raid and looked around. Some tried to slip away but were stopped by agents who had been guarding the exit.
Lin En's eyes swept across every corner of the bar and quickly directed the detectives to take action: "Search every room, especially the basement! Take back the account books, computers, surveillance records, anything that can be used as evidence."
Mark led several detectives directly into the office behind the bar, where there was a secret safe. After they pried open the safe, they found several account books and some encrypted hard drives.
"Inspector!" Mark quickly reported his findings to Lynn. "The account books and hard drive are here. They might be the evidence we need."
Lin En nodded and then looked at another agent: "Take these things back to the bureau and hand them over to the technical team for analysis immediately."
Meanwhile, the bar manager was brought before Lynn. He looked pale and panicked, "Inspector, this is just an ordinary bar! We are not involved in any illegal activities!"
Lin En looked at him coldly, his voice oppressive. "An ordinary bar? Account books, abnormal funds, encrypted hard drives, are these the daily operating methods of an ordinary bar? I suggest you cooperate with our investigation now, otherwise you will be an accomplice to Coleman's evil deeds."
The manager was sweating profusely and nodded continuously: "I... I'm just in charge of management! I don't know anything!"
Lin En wasted no time and signaled the detective to take him away. The entire operation was carried out swiftly and orderly. In less than an hour, all the people in the bar were cleared out, the items involved in the case were sealed, and the scene was completely under control.
Lin En walked out of the bar and stood in the night, watching the luxurious neon lights being dimmed one by one. There was no sign of relaxation on his face. He knew that this was only the first step. But this blow was enough to make Coleman uneasy.
After returning to the bureau, Lin En looked at the pile of account books and hard drives on the table and said coldly, "Analyze these things thoroughly. We need to find deeper clues and lock down every escape route for Coleman."
Coleman sat in his luxurious study, his face grim and gloomy. His whiskey glass was empty, and he slammed it down on the table, the glass clacking. He could feel the pressure building—Lynn's seizure had cost him dearly, and his staff was wavering, some even surrendering to the FBI.
"I can't wait any longer." Coleman cursed under his breath, grabbed his phone and dialed an encrypted number.
A few minutes later, a tall, cold-eyed mutant stood before Coleman. He wore a dark trench coat, his back silent and menacing. Coleman lit a cigar and spoke in a low voice, "I need you to help me with a problem. The target is Lynn Stacy."
The mutant tilted his head slightly, his voice cold, "My price is high, especially if you're targeting an FBI agent."
"Money is not a problem," Coleman sneered. "As long as you can get rid of him completely, his name and photo have been sent to you. Remember, I need a clean and neat process, leaving no trace."
The mutant nodded and turned to leave.
A few days later, Lin En was leaving the police station. He had just finished a long meeting. The night was dark outside, and the streets were deserted. Lin En walked to his car and opened the door when he felt a dangerous aura approaching. He quickly stepped back, and a blade of air brushed past his ear and directly pierced the car window.
He turned around and saw a tall figure slowly stepping out of the shadows. His eyes were cold, and his palms were shimmering with pale blue energy. Lin En immediately realized that this man was a mutant, and a deadly killer.
"Lynn Stacy," the man's deep voice boomed, "someone paid a lot of money to kill you. Sorry, this is just business."
Lin En didn't answer, but quickly drew his gun from his waist, his eyes as sharp as an eagle. He knew that the other party was no ordinary opponent and he had to deal with it with caution.
The killer moved, his speed astonishing, his hands surging with energy, swinging directly at Lin En. Lin En rolled to avoid it, aiming his gun at the other party, but found that the killer's reaction was extremely fast, and the bullet was directly deflected by the energy wave.
"You're quite capable." Lin En whispered, and at the same time quickly took out his communicator and pressed the emergency call button, "This is Lin En. I'm under attack and I suspect it's mutants. I need reinforcements, immediately!"
The killer sneered, "Call for reinforcements? You'll be dead before they get here."
He charged forward again, forcing Lin En back repeatedly, but his gaze remained calm. He noticed that the killer's attacks, while fierce, required a brief period of recharging power. He calmly analyzed his opponent's weaknesses, searching for opportunities to strike back.
While dodging, Lin En kicked a piece of metal debris from the ground towards the killer's face. The killer instinctively turned his head to avoid it. At this moment, Lin En acted decisively, grabbed the car door and slammed it into the killer's waist, causing him to lose balance.
The killer roared, and the energy surged instantly, knocking Lin back a few steps. But at this moment, a siren sounded in the distance, and the killer's expression suddenly became even more gloomy.
"Looks like the time has come," the killer muttered, trying to turn and retreat.
Lin En quickly stood up and said with a sneer: "Do you think I will let you go?"
He pulled out a special electric shock grenade and threw it with all his might. It exploded in mid-air, releasing a powerful electromagnetic wave that instantly disrupted the killer's energy, sending him to his knees in agony. Seizing the opportunity, Lin En rushed forward and secured the killer's wrists with special handcuffs, completely limiting his abilities. Reinforcements arrived and quickly apprehended the killer.
Lin En gasped, wiped the blood from his face, looked down at the killer, and said coldly: "Tell me, who hired you?"
The killer gritted his teeth and said nothing, but a hint of hesitation appeared in his eyes.
Lin En grabbed his collar and said in a cold tone, "It doesn't matter if you don't tell me. I already know it was Coleman. I will let him know that every step he takes is just digging his own grave."
The killer's expression finally changed, and he whispered, "You win...it was indeed him. He paid a high price to make you disappear forever."
Lin En released his hand and signaled the detective to take the killer away. As the dangerous aura gradually dissipated in the night sky, his gaze became more determined.
"Coleman, you've used up all your cards," Lynn whispered, "Now it's your turn to pay the price."
The next day.
Lynn stood in the corridor outside the courtroom, his gaze sternly fixed on the distance. Coleman was charged with hiring a killer, a crime that could temporarily deprive him of his freedom, but Lynn knew this was only the first step. The opposing legal team would never allow Coleman to remain in prison for too long.
Inside the courtroom, Coleman's legal team had already begun action. Their lead lawyer, Philip Black, a defense attorney known for his toughness and efficiency, was making a bail application to the judge.
"Your Honor," Philip said in his usual calm tone, "My client, Alan Coleman, is a well-known entrepreneur in this city. He has a fixed address and stable social connections, and he poses no flight risk. Furthermore, there is a lack of direct evidence against him, and the confession of a single suspect is insufficient to prove his guilt."
Lin En sat in the gallery, arms crossed, his eyes fixed on the judge's expression. He knew that this struggle was not just a legal battle, but also a game of resources and power.
The prosecutor stood up and retorted: "Your Honor, we have clear evidence that the defendant Alan Coleman instructed a mutant to kill FBI Agent Lynn Stacy. This is not only a challenge to the law, but also a serious threat to social security. We strongly request that bail be denied to ensure that the defendant cannot continue to threaten the safety of others."
Philip sneered and retorted sharply, "The so-called 'clear evidence' is nothing more than a one-sided confession from a professional killer, and there is no physical evidence to support it, whether in writing or through monetary transactions. The prosecution's charges are clearly insufficient to sustain."
Lin En couldn't sit still any longer. He stood up and walked towards the prosecutor, whispering, "Requesting an extension of detention and an urgent review of Coleman's assets and communication records. We need time to dig up more evidence."
The prosecutor nodded and quickly made an application to the judge: "In order to further investigate and confirm the substance of the case, we request the court to approve the extension of detention and allow for an urgent review of the defendant's assets and communication records."
The judge banged the gavel, temporarily rejecting Coleman's application for bail, while approving the prosecutor's investigation request.
After the trial, Coleman was taken back to the holding cell while his legal team gathered to plot their next move. Lynn watched, knowing that the battle was far from over.
After returning to the FBI branch, Lynn immediately assembled the team to plan the next steps. Pointing to the investigation list on the screen, he said, "Coleman is temporarily detained, but his legal team will not give up. We must quickly find conclusive evidence to completely prove his guilt."
Mark asked, "Where should we start? His assets, his communications, or his people?"
Lin En said firmly, "We need a three-pronged approach. His assets and communication records could reveal more transactions and instructions. His subordinates, especially those who just surrendered, will also be crucial in their confessions. The greater the pressure, the more likely they are to reveal more."
The team sprang into action, with Lynn personally participating in the interrogation of Coleman's men. He entered the interrogation room and glanced sternly at the men at the table. "You have two choices: remain silent, or tell us the truth and get a chance at leniency."
The subordinate was obviously shaken. He whispered, "Okay... I can tell you. But you must promise that I won't be retaliated against by Coleman's men."
Lin En nodded. "You assist us, and we guarantee your safety. Now, start talking."
At the same time, the technical team was also conducting an in-depth analysis of Coleman's communication records. A deeply hidden encrypted message was finally decoded, showing that Coleman did have a direct connection with the mutant killer, and also mentioned some hidden accounts and transaction records.
When this information was placed in front of Lin En, he took a deep breath and said in a cold voice: "These are the chains that he cannot escape."
Lynn barely rested, constantly sifting through piles of documents in his office. He knew that while Coleman was still in custody, this was the most critical moment. Once he was released on bail, hidden evidence could be destroyed, and those willing to testify could be threatened.
Mark came in with two cups of coffee and placed one on Lynn's desk. "Detective, you haven't slept for two days. Although we all know that time is running out, you have to stay awake."
Lin En took the coffee, took a sip, and said, "I don't have time to think about this. Coleman's criminal network is too deep. If we can't find substantial evidence during this period, his legal team will definitely do everything they can to get him out."
Mark nodded and handed a report to Lin En. "This is what the technical team just compiled. They discovered the flow of funds in several key accounts. The flow of funds in these accounts is directly related to several well-known companies."
Lin En took the report and flipped through it carefully. His eyes quickly stopped at a set of numbers, and his brows furrowed slightly. "There's something wrong with the flow of these funds. They passed through multiple offshore accounts. They appear to be legitimate investments, but the final destination is a fake shell company."
Mark interjected, "What's even more interesting is that this company has a purchase contract directly linked to one of Coleman's subsidiaries. On the surface, this appears to be a normal business transaction, but in reality, it's a money laundering operation."
Lin En sneered, "Coleman is truly a sly old fox, using so many layers to conceal the source of his funds. But he forgot one thing: no matter how the funds flow, they will eventually leave traces." (End of this chapter)
