Chapter 251: Raid Seizure
Lin En sat in the interrogation room, facing Vincent, who was handcuffed to a chair. The air was filled with tension, and Lin En's eyes were cold. On the table were the account books and photos that had just been found in the stronghold.
"Vincent, you know we have enough evidence to put you in jail for life." Lin En's voice was low but oppressive. "But I'm giving you a chance. Tell me who's behind you and what they're planning."
Vincent raised his head, a sneer on his face: "Do you think I'm scared? Inspector Lin, the person sitting here should be you, not me."
Lin En folded his hands, his eyes sharp. "This is your last chance. If you are willing to cooperate, I can recommend to the court that your crime be mitigated. But if you continue to be stubborn, then wait and see how you will be abandoned."
Vincent snorted coldly, leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and looked like he was refusing to cooperate.
Lin En looked at him, his heart burning with anger, but his face showed no emotion. He stood up and left the interrogation room and went to the observation room next door, where Mark was standing waiting for him.
"Inspector, this guy won't talk easily." Mark whispered, "He's obviously prepared not to cooperate."
"No one would be willing to take the blame for an organization or the mastermind for their entire life," Lin En said calmly, "His weakness isn't here. We need to change direction."
Mark raised an eyebrow: "You mean...his family?"
Lin En nodded. "Although Vincent is an old fox, everyone has weaknesses. He has a younger brother and an adult daughter. I suspect they may know some clues or even be involved with him. Check his family background, including his recent activity records, and see if you can find a breakthrough."
Mark nodded quickly: "Understood, I'll arrange it right away."
After watching Mark leave, Lynn returned to his office and looked through Vincent's file. He knew that once someone like Vincent was cornered, his only option was to exploit any threat he could find. Family was often the most effective way to break through.
A few hours later, Mark returned to the branch with a detailed investigation report in his hand.
"Inspector, I've checked Vincent's family situation. His brother Jonathan lives in the suburbs and runs a small restaurant. On the surface, he seems ordinary. But he recently received a very suspicious inflow of funds, amounting to $100,000, from an offshore account."
Lin En's eyes grew sharp. "One hundred thousand dollars? Does the timing of this payment match Vincent's recent activities?"
Mark nodded. "It matches perfectly, and I've discovered something else. Vincent's daughter, Lisa, has been frequenting a high-end law firm lately. She's probably making legal preparations for her father's 'accident'."
Lin En sneered, "It seems that Vincent has not only not given up on controlling his family, but is also using them as a cover. His brother may be a channel for money laundering, and his daughter is his escape route."
"What do we do next?" Mark asked.
"Go find his brother Jonathan." Lynn said firmly, "If he is involved in this conspiracy or is being used by Vincent, then we need to uncover the truth as soon as possible."
Mark nodded: "I'll take people over to investigate right away."
"Remember, don't alert the enemy," Lin En warned. "If Jonathan is really in cahoots with Vincent, he will definitely try to protect his brother. We have to find solid evidence and leave Vincent with no way out."
Mark and his team quickly left, while Lynn returned to the interrogation room and confronted Vincent again. He tossed a stack of photos onto the table and said coldly, "Vincent, these photos show your brother Jonathan's recent activities, along with some evidence of money transfers. You don't want him involved, do you?"
Vincent's expression changed slightly, but he quickly regained his composure: "Lynn. He has nothing to do with this."
Lynn leaned back in his chair, his eyes sharp as a knife. "Really? Then wait and see how he explains the $100,000 in funding and why he's covering up for you. Time is running out, Vincent. Your silence will only make them bear more of the blame for you."
Vincent's hands clenched the armrests, a trace of struggle flashed in his eyes, but he still didn't speak.
Lynn knew that time was approaching the truth, and Mark's investigation would soon pry open the last line of defense of this old fox.
Lynn saw Vincent's tense expression and knew his strategy was gradually taking effect. He spoke in a calm yet oppressive tone, "Vincent, let me paint a simple picture for you. If you don't cooperate, your brother Jonathan and your daughter Lisa will be dragged into this mess. We have enough evidence to warrant an investigation. Are you willing to see them pay the price for your actions?"
Vincent's hands trembled slightly under the table. His eyes wandered for a moment, but he still gritted his teeth and said, "You have no evidence. They did nothing wrong!"
"No evidence?" Lin En sneered and slammed a bank transfer record on the table. "Here's the evidence: $100,000 transferred directly from an offshore account to your brother's account. And these are the surveillance screenshots of your daughter frequently entering and leaving the law firm. She's paving the way for your escape, isn't she?"
Vincent's expression changed completely. He looked at the evidence, his Adam's apple rolling up and down, but he didn't say anything.
Lynn continued to press: "Vincent, you are a smart man. You know that if we can find these, we can find more. If you continue to remain silent, not only you, but also your family will be dragged into the law. They should not bear the consequences of everything you did. Now is your only chance. Tell the truth, cooperate, and save them."
Vincent's grip gradually loosened, and cold sweat began to form on his forehead. He took a deep breath, his eyes intertwined with struggle and despair. Finally, he lowered his head and said in a hoarse voice: "You win, Lynn. I say."
Lynn didn't show a trace of victory, but calmly sat up straight and waited for Vincent to continue.
Vincent's eyes wandered, his voice trembling. "All of this... was orchestrated by Alan Coleman. He's the boss behind the scenes, controlling the entire network. I'm just a tool, helping him launder funds and exploit loopholes."
Lin En's eyebrows raised slightly. Alan Coleman—this name was well-known in his intelligence system. He was a sophisticated entrepreneur, ostensibly operating a legitimate business, but in reality, he controlled a vast criminal network involved in financial fraud, illegal trade, and transnational money laundering. "Go on," Lin En said in a calm yet intimidating voice. "What did Coleman ask you to do?"
Vincent closed his eyes, as if gathering his thoughts. "He was the one who orchestrated the Blackwood family's bankruptcy. Decades ago, he devoured the Blackwood family's wealth through forged contracts and offshore accounts, then laundered the money through us 'advisors'. He didn't want any trace left, so he ordered me to destroy all evidence that might point to him, including those account books."
"What else have you done for him over the years?" Lin En pressed.
Vincent spoke tremblingly, "I helped him cover up some loopholes in old cases and ensure those involved wouldn't show up. Recently, he became aware of your investigation, so he asked me to arrange for someone to clean up the things in the hunter's cabin. Unfortunately... I failed."
Lynn sneered, a cold look flashing in his eyes: "You didn't just fail, Vincent, you just gave us enough reason to go straight to Coleman."
Vincent lowered his head in despair and murmured, "You don't know how dangerous he is. He won't let you find him alive."
Lin En stood up, put away the documents on the table, turned to Mark in the observation room and said, "Prepare for action. Transfer all the evidence to headquarters and issue an urgent arrest warrant for Alan Coleman."
Mark nodded and quickly left the arrangement. Lynn looked back at Vincent and said in a cold tone: "You chose this path yourself, now enjoy its results."
Vincent said nothing more, his head hanging as if he had completely collapsed. As Lin En left the interrogation room, a cold glint flashed in his eyes.
Lynn stood at the door of Coleman's luxurious office, his gaze blazing. He took a deep breath and pushed open the heavy wooden door. The furnishings inside were lavish to the extreme: leather sofas, expensive carpets, and world-renowned paintings on the walls—everything that highlighted Coleman's wealth and status.
Coleman sat behind his desk, looking relaxed and at ease. He was wearing a well-tailored suit and holding a glass of red wine. When he saw Lin En come in, he just raised his head slightly with a hint of disdain at the corner of his mouth.
"Deputy Inspector, what brings you here?" Coleman said in a frivolous tone, obviously not taking Lynn seriously.
Lynn stared at him coldly, walked straight to the desk, and slammed a document in his hand. "Alan Coleman, your name has appeared in too much evidence. The Blackwood family's bankruptcy, transnational money laundering, illegal trade, do you have anything else to add?"
Coleman put down his glass and leaned back in his chair, his smile widening. "Oh, Inspector, I've heard a lot about you. You have a strong sense of justice, a strong will, and you're never afraid of difficulties. It's a pity that these things are not worth much in the real world."
"Really?" Lin En's voice was as cold as ice. "We have enough evidence. Your network is collapsing. Your men have already begun to surrender. How much longer can you sit still?"
Coleman laughed and waved his hand. "Inspector Lynn, you're a smart man, but it seems you're not smart enough. Do you think you can bring me down with just that 'evidence'? The rules of this world are far more complicated than you imagine. No matter how deeply you investigate or how much you try, you'll only find yourself being used like a fool."
Lin En frowned slightly, but remained unmoved: "No matter how complicated the rules are, you can't escape the law. I will personally bring you to court."
Coleman stood up, walked over to Lynn, and looked down at him with obvious contempt in his eyes. "Law? The law is nothing more than a toy used by the powerful to decorate their facade. Lynn, listen to my advice. Don't make meaningless struggles. You're a good policeman. Why are you ruining your future for these rubbish?"
Lin En sneered, "Because it's my duty. And scum like you are exactly what I want to eliminate."
Coleman laughed as if he had heard a ridiculous joke, then leaned close to Lynn and whispered, "I can give you some money, Inspector. A large sum of money, as long as you give up the investigation and stop interfering in my affairs. This money is enough for you and your family to live a carefree life. You can choose to leave, with all your sense of justice, and enjoy true freedom."
Lin En's eyes were as cold as a knife. He slowly raised his head and stared at Coleman: "Do you think I'm the kind of person who can be bribed?"
Coleman shrugged, turned back to his chair, and picked up his glass again: "Everyone has his own price, Inspector Lynn. It's just that some people's prices are higher, and I can afford it."
Lin En slowly approached the table, his voice low and oppressive: "You made the biggest mistake, which was to underestimate me. Your money can't buy justice, nor can it buy my conscience."
A flash of disdain flashed across Coleman's eyes, and then he smiled and said, "In that case, I wish you good luck. But you'll soon find out that this game is not one you can win."
Lynn didn't say anything else. He just stared at Coleman coldly, then turned and left the office. He knew that Coleman's confidence was not unfounded, but this made him more determined to bring this man to justice.
After leaving the building, Lin En called Mark and said, "Every plan is proceeding as planned. We must monitor all of his activities and cut off all of his resources and connections. He thinks he's invincible, so let him see how his empire collapses."
Mark's voice came from the other end of the phone, with a hint of excitement: "Understood, Detective. This time, we will never let him escape."
Lin En stood in the center of the police command room, his gaze sweeping over his detectives. His tone was low but firm: "Coleman's influence is immense, and the evidence is well hidden. But we don't need to wait until we have all the evidence before taking action. Today, we must make him understand that the legal net is tightening."
He turned and drew a line on the whiteboard, marking a location. "Nightfall, a high-end bar owned by Coleman, is one of his bases for illegal transactions. We have sufficient clues to prove that this is a key place for him to launder money and cover up his criminal activities. Tonight, we will raid this bar on suspicion of illegal transactions and money laundering."
Mark nodded in agreement, standing aside. "Detective, we just received news from the financial analysis team that there are obvious financial anomalies in Nightfall's accounts. It's very likely that this is the channel Coleman used to launder money."
Lynn turned to look at the other agents and continued, "This is our first attempt to intimidate Coleman. His resources and network rely on the operation of these places. Once these places are destroyed, his empire will begin to collapse."
Several agents responded in unison: "Understood!" (End of this chapter)
